This phone is pretty good and it's getting better every day. But one thing is really annoying and that is the sound of ringtones and notifications.
It is really loud when it's set to the lowest setting (right before it goes into vibrate). Is there something I can do about it? I must add I'm on CM11 M9, but I think it's like that on stock too. If I'm wrong, please let me know.
Verstuurd vanaaf miene Oneplus One mit CM11 M9
This isn't the case. Try updating your rom alongside the kernel if you use a custom kernel. M9 is a very old version.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find anything more recent then the M9 except for the nightly builds. But I don't trust the nightly builds to be a stable choice...

What I'm saying is to flash the nightlies. Nightlies are stable.
The upgrade is worth it.. many many changes are made incl. touchscreen fix.
Ok, I'll try. The latest is the one you'd recommend? Will I lose anything when I flash it? I just got done with laying out my home screens and installing my apps, fine tuning my settings...
Verstuurd vanaaf miene Oneplus One mit CM11 M9
I don't use CM11. Do a nandroid backup and flash the newest nightly.
It should work but considering you've been on such a old version, it could be a conflict but if it does then nandroid restore your backup.
No you will not lose anything.
I'm still a little hesitant, because last time I flashed it, it broke my camera. After flashing CM I put back the original camera app. It didn't really went the way it should.
But you're right, a backup should be a safe trip.

If it said, "Cannot connect to camera" its because you're using a gapps that includes AOSP Camera which is incompatible with this phone.
I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 pico version.
Just flash it and test the sound.
My route: flashed M9, smallest PA GApps, flashed Google's camera, "cannot connect", flashed stock camera, still nothing.
Then I wiped all but my storage and started all over again: M9, smallest possible PA GApps, stock camera. I'm really a happy camper with this thing like it is now, it's just that sounds are too loud.
-edit- That didn't go well. It went haywire, but luckily I made a backup. I guess the past two days were a waste of time, I'm going to have to start all over again if I choose to go with the nightly builds...
Verstuurd vanaaf miene Oneplus One mit CM11 M9
Like I said above, do not flash Google camera. It doesn't work with the OnePlus One, you need to just flash Pico and download the CameraNext apk (find it online, its in this forum).
You wiping storage has nothing to do with it. All I told you to do was to flash the nightly, that was it. You didn't have to do anything else.
And if you're going from 1 gapps to the next with a dirty wipe, then read the PA Gapps thread on the instructions on how to do that properly.
I only flashed the nightly... No way, José. The route I explained was what I did two days ago.
Verstuurd vanaaf miene Oneplus One mit CM11 M9
I tried all kinds of stuff, but still no latest nightly. It gives me the same error every time I boot the latest nightly. Of course I made a screenshot, but the awesome XDA app is giving me an error when I tap the little camera button to add a picture.
Anyway. It says: "Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped."
That's it. I can click OK, but it pops back immediately. So I put back my backup for now. I'm a little annoyed by the fact that CM goes out guns blazing about how they have their own phone with stock CM, but then they fill it up with loads of Google cr-p!
So I still have to fiddle with flashing custom roms and as a result I spent the last four days trying to get this thing running without problems.
-edit- According to the guys using the nightlies, the latest (30th) is having issues. So it wasn't me.

People say 28th works.
But yeah its a nightly, bugs are to be expected. Usually things are smoother on the nightly side of things.
I've got the same problem I'm on stock 4.4.4. The ring tone is silly loude on the lowest setting.
Now running the 29th nightly, but still having trouble with the loudness. I guess I am going to have to live with it.
Maybe I'm asking a very stupid question, but what is Dalvik and what is Cache? Should it always be wiped? What happens if I do(n't)?

Do you have a custom kernel or something boosting the speakers? It's not loud for me. Something is causing it.
For dalvik and cache, it's best for you to Google search that instead of someone explaining what it is. And no, most roms when you flash it. It will wipe for you so there's no need to manually wipe dalvik and cache. And a misconception is that dalvik and cache relates to kernel, this is untrue. It has no effect on kernels, only roms.

All kernels are included with the rom otherwise the phone wouldn't boot. Might as well give it a try, it will not hurt. Use aosp variant of Franco kernel
If worst comes to worst. You can go into /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml and modify the speaker to be lower volume. It should be defaulted to 82 could be possible you flashed something that made it to be the loudest such as the value of 92. It should be under speakers but as I'm on mobile I can't be for certain, but I'm pretty positive that's the one you're supposed to modify.

Running franco-r20 now. Home screens are a little less lagging (ADW), but it's not as snappy as on M9. Also because Antutu (I like to stay quantitative, for what it's worth) said: M9 - 42000, Nightly29th - 39000, Nightly29th+franco-r20 - 40000.
But still the volume isn't what I'd like it to be. Don't think we're going to get that into quantitative research...
Perhaps I should call it a day and roll with this setup for a while. See if the flickering wifi/roaming annoyance and the ghost touch is gone.
Verstuurd vanaaf miene Oneplus One mit CM11 M9
Benchmarks don't mean anything. Ghost touches are for sure gone. I'm not sure whether or not you'd get graphical glitches as you're running m9 it is old and I don't think it has the commits to run the new touch screen firmware. Try the mixer paths method. Edit the file only change the numbers within the quotations and lower it. Try the alerts and repeat until you get it to where you want it to be.

I recently upgraded to CM9... and when I rebooted I could not see the blue signal bars. All I get is the bars and a tiny "x" in the corner...? What went wrong is this normal? Is it a known bug? I checked cm9 features list and bug list but no mention of it there... No APN's either... I have to reboot constantly to get a signal.

Yes I flashed several radios including the newest one but there seems to be no difference... When it does get a signal it either freezes when I use 3g/4g or if I try to reboot or power off when it doesn't get a signal it shows blue bars for a second then shows the "x" and my phone freezes up and reboots.
CM9 has it's share of issues even for a beta imo
But, did you re-input your apn's

I suggest using kitkang http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525831
as its the latest rom with Nightlys going on every night
and seems to be the only one making progress so far (FCC,SD,Overall UI smoothness,Video GPU performance)
SSPENCER10 is working very well for me. Everything he is putting out is stable and appears to be having fewer issues than KitKang. It is even working just as well with ART as it was with Dalvik. The 11-23 build also has the new CM11 boot animation.

You realize they are all based on exactly the same code right?
And you realize that if one makes 'progress' they all make 'progress' because they use the same code right?

It has nightlies that have 4.4
I'd recommend KitKang. It's been extremely stable and has really good battery life. ART works very well.

Summary: I don't think KitKang is recognizing my SIM card, and is causing "Phone" to crash every second or two.
Hey guys, I tried flashing the latest KitKang ROM last night, but ran into a big issue. I wiped system, cache, dalvik cache, etc. I then reflashed the MF1 firmware (it was already flashed, but for some reason I always feel better re-flashing it every time.) Then I flashed the latest KitKang D2VZW nightly linked above, and flashed the GApps mentioned in that thread too. However, upon rebooting, every second or so it would say "phone has forced closed" (or something along those lines. Also, there was no signal. I got through the setup process after a VERY long time of pressing "okay" to that error and setting up my CM and Google accounts with one key in between each error. I thought I would be able to go into Mobile Networks and change the settings, which fixed certain early issues with CM10.1 or 10.2, but to no avail. I then tried reflashing (after wiping clean) CM10.2 again to get certain files for the phone to work, then flashing CM11 over that, and it seemed to work up until it freezes after getting to the home screen. Any thoughts on what the issue may be and/or how to fix it?
Thanks!

thanks dude for your work!:good:
Veery nice ROM, but,
At first start i had no Mobile network. Once i put it in, all worked. Hooo alla that was without GAPPS...
FInally i use Micro GAPPS all of others GAPPS give FC to me. Maybe there is a GAPPS that work for everyone, but not for me ...These FC stop PlayStore Starting, so i cant get Apps from the market...
The big problem is that i cant inject apps with ADB command.... Command work but says that my phone is not detected....
How could i install a game or an app????
This is only on this ROM that i have this ADB issues, all others worked fine.
I'm installing again the ROM (wiping all partitions) and try to get a worked GAPPS without FC
so I'm not too familiar with the illusion roms , I'm wondering are they sort of hybrid roms like Pacman? I have not reinstall since the debugged illusion settings app was fixed but i am reluctant if people are having trouble with their mobile network not starting

Viper is known to be the king of customization. Everything can be changed and I mean everything. I've heard very nice things about insert coin too however. Its really up to you! Quick question before I flash my stuff, is it possible to install ViperOne without changing my boot image? I'm looking inside the viper zip and there's a boot image there.
Try the newest GPE. I have been running it for over a day and that is the longest I have been off Viper. A few cosmetic issues but been very solid and is nice and light. About as close to the pure Google experience as you can get.

I like the Skyfall but always come back to Viper for the exchange mod. If they would add that to Skyfall I would stay there.
Why not try 'em all?
When you install a custom ROM and configure it to suit you with all your apps installed backup your apps, etc. and then reboot to recovery, backup your ROM and wipe and install the next ROM.
It'll take you a few days but you'll find the one you like and be able to switch anytime by rebooting into recovery and restoring the backup of the ROM you want.
FWIW, I was running CyanogenMod last night but had a problem connecting to the free WiFi in the restaurant so I rebooted to recovery, did a backup of CM, deleted old backup of CM and restored my Clean Rom back up to see if it would connect, it did and now I'm on Clean until CM gets a few more updates to fix WiFi, it took only a few minutes to switch.
Hi,
I decided to post my own topic and not in the CM11 thread, because this is probably not a CM11 issue. As you know, the Nexus S has only 512MB of RAM including video. Mine has been having quite a lot of slowdowns (apps refreshes/restarts) for the past weeks. I am wondering what I could do to help it and avoid buying a new phone (no money and I still love that phone).
However now, there are few things that I can't do anymore.
- I can't listen to BeyondPod (podcasts) and receive/send SMS in Hangout. There's not enough RAM to run both apps and even when I am listening to BeyondPod, the SMS alert might not trigger when a SMS is received. This happens in few apps here and there.
- Sometimes, someone calls me and the screen stays black so I can't answer. Again, this is due to RAM usage.
- I use SwiftKey as keyboard and it can't take 30-45 seconds to load in some apps such as Chrome.
I am running CM11 Nightlies. I usually update CM11 once per 2 weeks with the lastest Nightly available. I don't wipe the entire configs, I just upgrade. It's been a while since I've wiped everything to be honest. I probably updated CM10 to CM11 without wiping the configs. This might be one thing to try but I am not sure if it would help to regain some RAM/juice. I am running the stock kernel of CM11. I know there are few kernels with a bigmem patch, but does it really work ?
As for launcher, I am running Apex Launcher as well with SwipePad. Greenify runs in the background and hibernate pretty much every apps it can. I don't have the Greenify donation package, so it won't hibernate on the system apps.
I am wondering if wiping everything and installing a stable version of CM11 (or another lighter ROM?) would help. I would use TItanium Backup to reinstall the apps and their settings. I wouldn't use TiB to push the configs of the ROM if CM11 is reinstalled. Would a kernel or ROM with bigmem patch a good idea ?
This would probably be a temporary fix, because apps and ROMs are asking for more and more CPU/RAM these days.
Thanks for any input,
Neo.
A clean flash isn't a bad idea, just backup your rom first.. Backup your apps/ data on your SD with titanium backup and then you can just restore them.. You could try my stable v1.1 script and use Guru (CM kernel with bigmem) or Devil and you will notice the improvement.. Also the CM m9 is a very nice rom.. Happy flashing..

Thanks for your answer Setting.Out.
Before I receive your answer, I did some research on my side as well. It turns out that I have downloaded your ROM (the Farewell edition) and the cn.fyodor AOSP 4.4.3 ROM. I decided to go ahead and install the AOSP ROM instead of yours. I wanted to try AOSP instead of CM, being a CM user for the past 2-3 years. While I was satisfied with the AOSP ROM for the past day or 2, I am now unsure if I will keep it. While performances are good compared to what I was used to, I have some issues. The videos in YouTube are lagging like crazy (although videos in VLC work fine) and the audio stutter sometimes. I listen to a lot of music and each few minutes, it will stutter for a split second. I never had that issue with CM11. Also, I can't find a kernel with bigmem on AOSP. There is the marmite kernel from bedalus which seemed promising, but everyone is having FC with the Google Play Store and BLN/BLD isn't working anymore on this kernel.
How does your ROM compare with CM11 ? I know yours is CM based. Is there less "bloatwares" in yours ? CM install lots of stuff (themes, bugs reporting, etc) and I don't want that. I prefer to use the Xposed Framework instead of a ROM with multiple settings that I don't use. Having a CM based ROM would be nice to be able to flash the Guru kernel.

It basically is CM11, a little less bloated, but similar feature set.. Give it a try, you can always flash another rom if it doesn't suite you.. Slim 5.1 is another favorite of mine, if you'd like to try that one you'll need to search their thread as it wasn't a public release..

Your "Farewell edition" is Kitkat 4.4.4 or 4.4.2 ? So that I can download the appropriate Gapps. I also understand that the Gapps you provide in your thread are a minimal package, so my Nexus S doesn't run out of space (which happened to me few months ago due to the new official Gapps package).
Thanks
