Can you change the runtime on the z3 from dalvic to art? art on my nexus 4 is amazing and if its there on z3, i will instantly upgrade!
Don't believe it has ART capability. No option to switch from dalvik under "developer options"
Too bad i cannot switch to art
Will wait for a stable aosp rom or android L update
And i bought this phone already! ?

With the ability to switch between these two in KitKat, I'm wondering if anyone has, and how that affect performance & battery life.
ART for the win!!!

ive tried art and love it!! it could all be on my head but i swear my machines have never been more responsive!! there are some limitations though that you need to take into account. not all apps are upgraded to work with art as a matter of fact i love to use xposed installer to customize my roms and i found that when the exposed installer is installed your machine wont convert to art . so far thats the only app that i found will actually not let your phone/tablet change over. i dont know if its actually xposed or something else but anyway.. on my RAZR HD ART is noticeably faster. Just go to dev options close to the bottom you will find the runtime option choose art and wait for the phone to reboot and update your apps. if you find that the apps you use most often dont work you can alway go back to dalvik the same way you changed it to art. not sure if this is any help at all i tend to ramble at times. anyway yeah give it a shot and let us know what you think/
Yeah, I saw that in developer options, I was just going to try it, but I thought I'd see what others have tried. Guess I 'll give it a shot.

Just be careful. Not all apps work with ART. If you use the Xposed framework, it will switch you back to Dalvik.
Also, once you switch to ART, it changes your data partition, so if you decide to go back to a different kernel (for unlocked bootloaders that is), you MUST switch back to Dalvik and then reformat your data partition.
It seems the next release of Android has ART as the default committed in the source code, so it looks like Google is ready to go "prime time" with ART in the next release. I'm only holding back on it due to two apps: CoPilot USA currently does not support ART so I have to stay on Dalvik for the time being. Also, as mentioned, I use the Xposed framework with Greenify and GravityBox, so until Xposed works with ART, I'll be staying on the Dalvik for the time being.
No known ETA for when Xposed or CoPilot will work with ART.
There are more apps out there that don't work with ART. You can go to the compatibility list to see what is/isn't working:
http://click.xda-developers.com/api...velopersxda-developers&txt=compatibility list
But, if you have no apps that require Dalvik, I say switch to ART. It definitely is smoother and faster than Dalvik since it precompiles the apps upon installation rather than using JIT (under Dalvik) when you first launch it, so start-up times seem quicker under ART and the over-all responsiveness seems much snappier.
as the title goes, which runtime do you use? Dalvik or ART?
Dalvik as Xposed is not compatible with Art.
i use ART, for long battery life
Hello,
I just wanted to know,
ART & Dalvik with one is the better??
ART is better in terms of performance and battery than Dalvik but does not support apps like Xposed installer. If you do not use it it's better to switch to ART.
Here's my question. I'm rooted now and I wanted to know if I should be on art or stay with delvik?

depends on your needs. some things still dont work with art. only things i know dont work on art is xposed and i think screen cast with chromecast app. however i use art rather than dalvik because it is smoother for me.
Where is the STAMINA mode on Marshmallow? And No Option to "Set Default App" ??
Hi guys,
I need some help or clarification with my newly updated Xperia Z5C running on Android 6.0 [phone is stock and just recently updated via Sony to Android 6.0].
Here are the two things I am having issues with and not sure if standard on 6.0 OR if I am doing something wrong:
- I no longer seem to have the Power Management options but simply a "Battery Usage" setting. Within this setting I no longer have the Stamina mode option I had before the Android update. Am I looking at the wrong place or is the Stamina and other power options gone under 6.0?
- I've finally purchased a great photo editor capable of saving edited photos to SD and keep the EXIF file intact [PHOTO EDITOR by dev.macgyver, great app!] but when inside the native photo "Gallery" and I try to edit the photos, it no longer shows me the option to set my new app as default. It does show the three options for editing (google, native and the newly added app) but I no longer see the option "Use as default or Always Ask". How do I set this app as default editor to be opened when using the gallery?
Thanks in advance!
It doesn't exist, and not sure if Sony will release it.
Marshmallow out of the box has huge battery savings by using google ART caching over delvik cache, you do have standard Marshmallow battery saving options (2) under the three dots in settings/battery

Wasn't ART in lollipop though too? Not just suddenly in marshmallow. The switch to Doze in Android is why stamina isn't there.
It will likely only come back if Sony can make it play nice with doze.
Either way, for the op, battery is better on marshmallow for most folk.

Not by default as far as I can remember, may have been partially implemented (not sure) I do know you could enable it in developer options
Lollipop and kitkat both had ART runtime. You had to pick it in developer settings on kitkat tho
