Bold font? - AT&T LG G3

I have owned the g3 a couple of times!(!) but each time I have returned it becuase I find the font hard to read regardless of the size. I loved the device and I think it's one of the best out there but my eyesight isn't as good as it once was and I have found the Samsung Note 3 much easier to read, becuase I think the font is bolder. I discovered the new iOS 8 on my iPad has the ability to make all fonts BD and it greatly helped me. I tried the LG fonts installed and also tried to load others from the rather pathetic LG site, but none helped me. So at the end of the say I returned the device but I think it's the best out there becuase it's so small. Can Anyone post me, or tell me where to find, a decent bold font that doesn't look cartoonish?

Best Smartphone out there?

I've been an avid Windows Mobile/HTC fan for over 3 years now, but I was wondering everyones opinion on the DROID/Milestone by Motorola.
I feel like this phone might finally get me to move on to bigger/better things - I'm thinking about purchasing a Telus Milestrone (DROID) on ebay to use on AT&T. I NEED A PHYSICAL KEYBOARD!
Basically, does anyone else here feel like Android is a more stable and advanced OS when compared to Windows Mobile? I currently have a Touch Pro II and Nokia E71, but I think I may sell both of those phones to get the DROID.
Is there any limitations for the DROID that I should know about as WinMo user? Is there a different/better phone I should wait for instead?
Does anyone else feel like me currently?
I just want to find the ultimate smart phone! (I swear it's an eternal hunt)
Honestly in my opinion I think android beats windows mobile in every way. It is a much more innovative operating system in my eyes and with rooting the posibilities are endless. If you could go without a keyboard I would say get a nexus. The droid's keyboard is very flat and honestly when I used one I found the touch screen keyboard just to be easier to use. If you have used one you'd understand what I mean. The flatness makes it very hard to type on for me atleast but I guess as you get used to it, it gets easier. Honestly though the best smart phone is all up to. He user. I think out of the phones you mentioned I would take the Droid over the other two. But if you think you could get used to an on screen keyboard think about getting a nexus one because from what I've seen they are great and incredibly fast phones.

WM doesn't need Root access because its already there. We can do what ever we please with our WM devices.
Go for the droid - it's a great phone.
If you really need a keyboard, make sure you check out the droid in person before you buy it. I don't know if a keyboard could be any flatter. It's amazing how some people can distinguish one key from another. If you have big/thick fingers, this may be an issue. As far as keyboards go, the touch pro 2 is the one for me.

Yeah seriously. Do look at the droid's keyboard before you buy it. When I play with one I nd up using the on screen keyboard more but I've also used one for all f 15 minutes total. Friend who has one can tell each key apart and loves it. It all comes down to opinion

Leo Has the option to test young funny Android but from the mature and stable WM platform
Ive been using Android 2.2 on my Nexus One for the last week.
Now Ive got to say im not the biggest fan of the Nexus One, it has some tech issues that still need to be worked out, but I have had it since it first came out so it is an early model.
Android is great though, its really intuitive to use and the new version is really powerful.

QWERTY Android phones in the UK?

Hi all, first of all sorry if this is the wrong section, it seemed to fit best here but I could've missed something. So I've been looking for a new phone with certain requirements and finding it insanely difficult to collate information and generally to find a phone at all.
I'm on an iPhone 4 right now and hate it. I've discovered that I hate typing on a touchscreen, so I've been looking for Android phones with QWERTY keyboards, but it seems like they're all US only. I was wondering if anyone knew whether a few of my preferences can be made to work fully in the UK, or even better, suggest a QWERTY phone that's Android 4.0 compatible (I'll want to keep it for a few years and not be left behind).
I like the look of the Motorola Droid 4, and found a thread here explaining how to make it work here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766479) but it's insanely complicated so I'd probably just pay someone to do it. If I were to do that would it work 100% without issues on a UK carrier though?
Second one I've been considering is the Samsung Captivate Glide. That one seems like it might be easier to make work over here, but I'm not sure how - would I just take it to a shop, get it unlocked, and be done with no more problems? And for both this phone and the Droid 4 would I encounter any issues with it being a US phone used in the UK?
Last one, and definitely my least preferred choice is the HTC Desire Z. It's available in the UK but every review I've read said it feels like cheap crap and the hinges won't last. I also can't find anywhere saying for certain if it will or won't get Android 4.0. Anyone know about that?
If anyone can offer any advice on my questions I'd appreciate it, or if you know of a QWERTY, Android 4.0 capable phone that's available in the UK without messing around with technical stuff (or can be made to work here very simply/by paying someone), I'd appreciate suggestions too. Again sorry if this is the wrong section.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro.(not mini pro)
Should be available

Hey, thanks for the suggestion, I'll consider that one too.
I've seen a few places mentioning something about importing a Canadian Droid 4 to work in the UK, does anyone know if this would work and how?

Dunno about that, but I do believe there's an unlocked version of either the milestone or the Droid. If it says international unlocked on US sites, you can buy it comfortably

So the Xperia Pro looks like a decent handset physically, I think I could probably live with it. One thing about it though is the software; the UI looks a bit meh compared to reviews I've seen of phones with HTC Sense and the likes. I know absolutely nothing about these things so excuse such a noobish question, but is it at all possible to change that kind of thing on an Android phone? Could I get HTC Sense (or something similar) on it if I went with a non-HTC model?
EDIT: Also I'm seeing a worrying problem with the Xperia Pro; when upgraded to ICS it starts registering the physical keyboard as AZERTY rather than QWERTY. Does anyone know if there's an unofficial fix for this and how difficult it would be to apply? The only official "fix" I've seen is to take the phone into a Sony store to be reverted back to Gingerbread, and aside from not wanting to be trapped on an older OS I don't even think we get Sony stores in my country.
Sorry for such basic questions. The only smartphones I've had were a Blackberry Curve then my current Iphone 4: I've no idea how far the customisation/tweak-ability of Android goes.

Android is open source
If you want HTC sense you can as well put it,but then you'll void your warranty. (This can also be sidestepped ofcourse)
About the Q into A issue,I guess you'd have to update your device and hope for the best, though it must've been fixed by now. Sony aren't ones to entertain mass complaints.
There's Sony stores in the UK, that I'm certain. Check their site for the nearest one.Perhaps shop from one physically, have them update it themselves there as you wait, and make sure it works fine before you leave. It would also guarantee you an unlocked phone, which update faster than carrier models.
Also, seeing as your coming from blackberry and iPhone, I'm sure you'll love the customization room on android. On ICS the Sony skin is just a launcher, which you can change with a different Launcher app.

The Droid 4 process to work in the UK is not complicated at all, once you understand rooting, tweaking, and nodding you will read it and realize how easy it is. It may only seem complicated since you are new to Android.
It's either that or the Captivate Glide for high end phones, the Glide should work unlocked as long as the bands it supports matches your carrier bands (which I'm too lazy to research right now).
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro is nice, but it has a smaller screen and a single core processor.
Desire Z/G2 is definitely now a budget phone, 800mhz processor, 512 mb RAM, and same screen size as Xperia Pro. Once its rooted, however, it is the most overclockable phone, able to run at 1.9 ghz, although it is extremely unsafe to do that.

ALthough its a tiny screen, the iPhone keyboard has gotten amazing reviews. Despite being a big Android fanboy, I have to agree. Using an ipod touch, I feel like I can "trust" the keyboard (sounds weird I know).
I still prefer qwerty Androids though

I don't have a problem with the size of the Iphone keyboard, I think it's literally just me. I can't seem to click with the touchscreen keyboard and develop muscle memory, so typing is a matter of looking and tapping, as opposed to on my old Blackberry, where I could touchtype messages out at a decent speed without having to look.
@ Gagdude thanks for the breakdown of the various phones. For buying here I think Xperia Pro is my Hobson's choice, but I really like the Captivate Glide and if it really would work just by unlocking it instead of going through all that Droid 4 stuff then it's perfect. Wikipedia claims it's just a matter of unlocking it to use elsewhere and I can easily pay someone to do that for me. (it's the Samsung Captivate GLide page on wikipedia, it wouldn't let me post an outside link)
Do you know if I'd encounter any problems using a US phone on a non-US carrier, like updates to Android etc?

No. If it's unlocked and has the correct sim card and apn settings for your home network it will work fine.

Lol. APN is the settings your network uses for internet connectivity. From your android phone
1. go to settings
2. Wireless and Networks
3. Mobile Networks
4. Access Point Names
5. Press Menu and then "new APN"
6.Fill in the blanks as described in the PDF as per your network.*if on prepay it's better to leave proxy details blank, saves on data charges*
7.press menu and "save APN"
8.click the round dot so it's green on your new settings.
9. Reboot
As for frequency, captivate glide supports all GSM frequencies. So the only problem would be a locked sim,or you being in a CDMA network.

I went from a UK Desire Z to an unlocked Samsung Captivate Glide from the US and can confirm that it works over here. I bought an unlocked version and put my Vodafone SIM in with almost no problems. My SIM was a few years old and when I went to make a call it would cut off after about 3 seconds but all I needed was a new SIM from Voda which came in a couple of days. The only real problem that I found was that the phone will try to find US satellites for GPS instead of the European ones and it won't be able to establish a lock, the only way I found to resolve this was to root the phone and edit the satellite config file so that it looked for the correct ones (still takes ages to get a lock but will now work). Other than that, I haven't really had any other problems getting it to work. Message me if you have any specific questions and I will be happy to advise if I can.
I had never rooted a phone before and just used Google as my friend and it was all pretty quick and easy.
Gaz
Oh, I kind of need GPS, I'm hopeless at getting around. I wouldn't want to risk messing around with the insides of the thing either. Also if GPS takes ages wouldn't apps that require your location all take ages too? Guess it's back to the picking a phone stage after all. Anyone have any suggestions other than Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro?
EDIT: also can anyone confirm for certain whether the Xperia Pro has/will get ICS/Jelly Bean? All I'm finding in google is the exact same speculation in a million different blogs from months ago.

HTC Radar...welcome relief from Android or...

Hi all...
I am planning to buy this phone for my dad. Wanted to know how good it is and that would be really helpful as he's going to use it for reading, and emails and browsing. I know the system is fast & fluid... What is the scope the long run and what about Apollo.
What is the difference between 4 inch and 3.8? will it make a big difference??
He's currently using XPERIA x 10 it is very slow and buggy...
Thank you.

No more updates, WP7 phone will and cannot be upgraded to WP8.
I suggest you wait for a WP8 phone.
Sent from my MB508 using xda premium
If browsing, reading and email is all he plans to do, there is no need to wait for WP8 as these are pretty good in existing WP. However, if he plasn to listen to songs, etc, wait for WP8.
Oh, and btw, Hindi fonts are currently not supported officially, AFAIK. That may be a whammy.
EDIT:
And as for 3.7 vs 4 ", typing in portrait mode becomes more of a big PITA for those with large fingers like mine. So bigger is better
I am referring to the devnagri fonts since its not there in my focus.
Thanks for the reply I wanted to know if the phone is good or are there any serious flaws ??
Any particular problem I can expect...honestly don't much care about updates as long as the phone is working fine..main concern size of the screen.
If 3.8 is going to be small, no point in buying it..
Thanx all u guys fr your replies!

Many people get by fine on small-screen phones (the iPhone is only 3.5", which I personally find too small but many don't). There is guaranteed to be at least one more update for the Radar - WP7.8 - which is better than many Android phones will get! Additionally, being an HTC phone, we already know how to unlock its bootloader so custom ROMs are always a possibility (also true on most ANdroid phones, of course)
The lack of keyboards / fonts for Indian languages is probably the biggest problem that might be encountered. The slightly smaller screen size (you can notice 0.2" less, but it's not a big deal) is probably the second-biggest loss. On the plus side, the phone is fast, fluid, easy to use, much less at risk of malware, gets good battery life (for a smartphone), and generally good quality.

U underlined all that I wanted to know..yes, the only issue I feel is the small screen. See, its for my dad. He's getting old and don't want him to struggle with the text on the screen. May it be a website, may it be an email.
He is using Xperia X10. It's 4", but very laggy, slow and heats up with loads of other issues.
It will surely be a welcome change but the screen size is what worries me. The problem is, I can't show it to him as its not available in any stores..only online.
I had HTC HD7 myself, miles faster than Android, but again very few apps and even little on the dev scene...
Hmmm...thanx anyways...

from what you have said he will be doing with it, it will be absolutely fine.
There is this Apollo reaction going about at the moment where people seem to thing that WP7 suddenly stops working and isn't good enough but the simple fact is, WP7 works now, it works very well now, its not designed to be a pocket PC so doesn't need all the bells and whistles, what it is designed to do it does VERY well now so when Apollo comes to life it will continue to work until the market share of WP7 drops to a point low enough for developers to completely ignore it. Basic rule of e-commerce, if you have a market that pays your wages, continue to support it until its irrelevant, if I were to put a time on it id say, 18-24 months from Apollo launch will be where things start to SIGNIFICANTLY decline on the WP7 dev front
my only worry is when you say he will be doing reading on it, the size isn't a big issue in terms of text size, I hear the comments over keyboard size and if your fingers will work with then and completely understand that, but that is very much up to you, we cant help on that one. Nope the big one is reading, do you mean reading ebooks etc? or just general phone use reading?
Ebook reading will suck the life out of your phone faster than an average train ride, it will do it, but I wouldn't use it as a ebook reader as a primary function,

Well, the obvious answer should have been to buy a Windows 8.1 phone... but seeing as how you already have a HTC M8, I would suggest you take a look at the various Windows Phone launchers in the Play Store. I only briefly looked at a couple back when I had a Galaxy SIII (TouchWiz was really getting to me), so I don't know of any to recommend, especially since this was over a year ago. Not entirely sure why you favor Windows Mobile to Android, but "to each his own" I guess...
EDIT: I know Samsung recently released a Windows phone for Verizon (I assume you are a Verizon customer as you are in the Verizon forums), so worst case scenario you could sell your M8 (for at least $550, if not more), and buy the Samsung ATIV SE out of contract ($599.99).
EDIT: If I were you, I would first start with Themer. I did use it a couple weeks back, and it definitely is impressive (by the sheer amount of themes available). I am sure someone has created a Windows 8/8.1 theme by now.

There isn't one yet (at least not in the OS category, where one would expect to find it), but that doesn't mean there won't be one soon.
Also, I agree with how impressive Themer is, though it also seems to be a bit limited. Mainly in the fact that the themes, while very attractive, seem to be pretty much set in stone, so to speak. So without modifying the theme config itself, you can't change the dock icons, for instance (or if you can I haven't figured it out, though without also having an icon that matches the icon theme for the new app you want to include, it would look out of place). This is of course theme dependent. In fact, they remind me quite a bit of MIUI themes, where they look great, but what you get is what you have, and you're stuck with it (for the most part).
I can't fathom why you'd ever want to run Windows Phone OS on such a great phone, but if your addicted to Metro, theres dozens of metro launchers.

Hmmm, a little surprised about that, but if not now, then there definitely must be one coming out soon.
And it's been a while since I had a phone with a working MIUI ROM (Droid 2 Global FTW), but I totally agree in this sense. I loved the variety of themes, but the end user was unable to tweak anything major within each theme. I don't use Themer now, as I absolutely love Sense 6, but I still appreciate the fact that if needed, I have access to such a launcher.

No way. But try to find good launcher that will work fine for you. But don't expect that it'll work totally the same, since, it's just the launcher itself.

Am seeking the impossible?

I was looking around earlier, for something I may like to use as a new main phone, but definitely a Samsung. I like the smaller screens. I have small hands. I know you can squish the keyboards to one side or the other, but problem being is that I'm somewhat of an ambidextrous swipe texter. I don't want to have to switch sides every time I switch hands.
I also would very much like a removable battery. I alternate between a couple of batteries. But not only that, being able to do a battery pull when things get a bit wonky as a soft reset.
The newest Samsung mini that actually came to be is the s5 mini. I've read rumors of an s7 mini, and then about the cancelation of said s7 mini. The A3 was recommended when i looked up s6 mini to see if it existed, but it doesn't have even a removable back let alone battery.
I've looked up if there are ways to improve ram on my captivate glide, but it looks like it would use your sd card and also read something about the computer not being able to detect it any more, or something.
It's on 4.0.4 but the play store thinks it's on 5.1.1. I'm a fan of the touchwiz interface (I know, I'm one of like 3 people total), and especially enjoy the smaller compact toggles in the notifications drawer. Standard android looks hideous to me and at least the version I played with you couldn't even so much as change the notification and ringtone volumes separately. Too basic for my liking.
Should I hold out for hope of an s8 mini?

I was looking around earlier, for something I may like to use as a new main phone, but definitely a Samsung. I like the smaller screens. I have small hands. I know you can squish the keyboards to one side or the other, but problem being is that I'm somewhat of an ambidextrous swipe texter. I don't want to have to switch sides every time I switch hands.

I know that, but 99% of people want the biggest/largest and newest... I knew mine would be a rare request and thought it best to make a new thread
