Unlocking and rooting - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
As my Nexus 5 is being delivered wednesday (coming from Sony Xperia S), i did some research.
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389107
Anybody has used this and know if it's still up to date and working?
Thx.

You really want to look through this. There's a rooting guide in it

Use manual methods for the reasons explained in that thread. We won't be pointing you towards toolkits or helping you if it goes wrong.
The manual methods are easy enough.

You own a nexus now. Fastboot is going to be a valuable tool. Learn it now and ignore the toolkits. You control your phone now... Don't let a kit take away that control. ?

Agreed all the way around. Not to dis the makers of the toolkits but for best results unlock your nexus device with googles intended method thru fastboot. Like @KJ said. You control your phone now.

Ok thx guys, i understand.
Now i have to wait till Wednesday and i can start unlocking and rooting.
After that i have to read many posts and threads about all different roms

how do we do nandroid backup on x10?

As far as i know you need a modded spl to do that and hopefully it's not to far away.
Damn the x10 is so far behind

What? It's been out for what 3-3 1/2 months? It's been rooted and the bootloader was just cracked, wont be long now. I wouldn't call 3 1/2 months far behind though.
Look at other new android device.....
I mean this is not the first Android phone out ..... the nexus one was done way faster than the x10....let's hope this gets better....
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
It's the first Android phone by SE...
But its still android right..... or is it going to be like the Motorola milestone...... where the its locked n we can't do anything

You expectation is too high so you better roll up your sleeves and join the force to get it done faster. Just like other android phones and just like other android users.
Hey if someone is willing to help me I would be willing to....... android is the best!!!!!!

When you see that rooting and cracking on a particular phone is faster that means more developers are working on it. From what I have experienced there are not many developers on this subject here but beleive it or not, they are doing an outstanding job over this. And we should be able to do it anyday now.
Cheers,

Not sure I understand this.
They have rooted and have cracked the bootloader. They are currently working on a ROM, right now. So if right now isn't soon enough for you guess you should jump ship and get a Nexus One or whichever device is supported enough for your tastes.

The nexus one didn't even have a locked down bootloader in the sense that it was like the X10! Google allowed all of this modding to happen. All devs needed to do was type a little command into a terminal, and you could just choose to unlock the bootloader. It was a simple as that. So don't compare Google's nexus one, to SE's X10 which was deliberately locked like this.
To be honest you should be very thankful for what these devs have done. They've literally gone from the outside-in of the phone, going from the running os, to the kernel and now to the bootloader!
If you want to try doing this, go ahead. But if not, just be patient. All of the devs are working very hard at the moment.
I'm just saying the x10 might be like the milestone.....

im still confuse in flashing part, espicially on using xrecovery 1.0.0..

Porting

Where can I get some detailed info about porting? I have done a lot of searching, but with no success. Also, what level if expertise does one need to have for such a task?

You need to be more specific about what exactly you're trying to port.

[ROOT][4.2.2]15.3.A.0.26 (C2104/C2105) for Locked Bootloaders

A safe way to root 15.3.A.0.26
Bin4ry wrote the exploit code (getroot.c) which was edited by CUBE and it's based off Snow_Basinger's post/work (Link) and thanks to a friend who helped me sort this out.
Download
Just extract the files and run runme_win.bat. Don't forget to enable usb debugging

Credits to Bin4nary, Based on Snow_Basinger (Link) and a friend of mine. CUBE did not write the original exploit.
Basically reorganize the script. It works fine on my Xperia L 15.3.A.0.26 on Locked bootloader

You didn't, snow_bashinger and CUBE did. You only made the thread so don't take credit off of someone else's work, it's not right.

He gave us the link and for that I am grateful, he did give credit to people who are responsible for development of Root in his first post.

Yeah I know, I've seen it. It's just "happy to help you guys" sounds as if he made the the exploit or whatever. I respect the fact that he gave credits, it just doesn't sound write "happy to help you guys" it almost sounds like he's saying it's his work. But either way it's a good thing he made a thread about this.

With all respect but have you thought that it just sounds like that to you ? For me it sounds like a guy who made a thread about root that many users out there were waiting for and in no way he did try to take credit for the root.
I didn't said I made it. Please do read. Sharing is helping too

I'm not sure is it really because of the rooting process, but since after rooting, i found that all my saved wifi are gone. Not really a big deal though. Anyone face this kind of thing with this root?

Please don't recommend this. Following step-by-step guides don't help people learn what they need to know. What we have in general is not only more comprehensive but also what many of we more experienced modders would consider an essential baseline of knowledge.
