[GUIDE] Nexus 5 - How to Unlock Bootloader, Install Custom Recovery and Root

The info is not scattered. Everything you need to know is a sticky thread in general

And I'd like to add that the first sticky thread of the section you have posted has 2 links to know how to root.
We are not scattered. We are meticulous lol

Please don't recommend this. Following step-by-step guides don't help people learn what they need to know. What we have in general is not only more comprehensive but also what many of we more experienced modders would consider an essential baseline of knowledge.

A sticky thread is a thread stuck at the top of a forum. This is nothing to do with being an expert. This is common, internet language.

Of course see the first post on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-n5-l-developer-preview-t2796003
1) Get the modified boot.img (search it)
2) flash the boot.img
3)boot a custom_recovery image via fastboot
4) flash superuser.zip using the booted recovery
5) done
Next time post in the proper place tomato head!

Please post question in the correct forum, the Q&A forum. Next time you post in the development section, ask yourself. Did I create this, or did me and someone create something? If the answer is no, please do not post in development.
Bring a new member you can have a little slack, however please read then forum rules and educate yourself on which forum to post in.
Thanks.
Thread reported.
This may now be an age old question, but will root and custom rom installation be avaible anytime soon?

Since you are on 4.3, check out the thread HERE. Also, always be sure to read, read, and reread before proceeding with any process.
Great. I didn't know I could install a rom after safestrap. I've done this before the last update. Thanks a lot .

Hello,
As my Nexus 5 is being delivered wednesday (coming from Sony Xperia S), i did some research.
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389107
Anybody has used this and know if it's still up to date and working?
Thx.

Use manual methods for the reasons explained in that thread. We won't be pointing you towards toolkits or helping you if it goes wrong.
The manual methods are easy enough.

You own a nexus now. Fastboot is going to be a valuable tool. Learn it now and ignore the toolkits. You control your phone now... Don't let a kit take away that control. ?
Agreed all the way around. Not to dis the makers of the toolkits but for best results unlock your nexus device with googles intended method thru fastboot. Like @KJ said. You control your phone now.
Ok thx guys, i understand.
Now i have to wait till Wednesday and i can start unlocking and rooting.
After that i have to read many posts and threads about all different roms
