[Q] Cache issue, bricked. please help me. Reward! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys and gals, I'm having a huge issue with my nexus 5. Today I used the stock recovery to clear the Cache. It looked like it had froze so like an idiot i forced the phone to restart. Now it says my cache partition is messed up and my storage isn't mounted. I also show an unknown base-band so I cant use cell service. I can however still boot my phone up and go into the bootloader screen and also boot it up normally. I looked up and attempted to fastboot the cache.img file back onto the phone, but every time I try I get an error message saying "failed : remote not supported in locked device" something or other like that in the CMD screen. My phone is stock, bootloader is locked and I do not have root or anything else on it. what do I have to do to flash this cache.img file and get my phone working again? I looked up all the info so far but I'm at a dead end. I can figure out basic things but im no genius unfortunately. I'm at the point where Ill paypal a reward to whoever helps me. Please someone help me. I en

thanks in advance.
You should try the usb jig sold on ebay for the Nexus S.. It will bring the phone to download mode so you can flash your firmware with odin.. To use odin on your mac you need to have Windows installed with a virtual machine or virtualbox..

goes to bootloader
and erases the user data and then starts sending
and thats it nothjing elses happens for hours

what can i do?
Does the phone has unlocked bootloader? If yes it could be why. You can't go back to stock ruu unless you have locked bootloader. Try relock it before you flash ruu.

The carrier ID (CID) of the phone needs to match the CID for the RUU, or you need the phone to have SuperCID. That may be your problem also.
Need more details on what version (carrier) of the phone you have, and which RUU you are trying to run.
If it was having an issue, you would get an error telking you why it failed. If it gets as far as to start the process it recognizes the phone and is worjing properly. On slower pc's the process can take up to an hour ive seen. Start the procesz and do not touch it unless it finishes the process, or gives u an error of some sort. As long as it says sending, its sending and let her do her thing.

cw99, having twrp and hboot is very very very far away from a brick.
odds are you made the mistake of factory reset inside the phone or bootloader instead of in twrp only. only time i made that mistake i just ran the ruu and never plan on making the mistake again. others might have done it for testing purposes to find ways to properly revive it without needing to run ruu.
with newest twrp 2.3 you might be able to get away with adb sideload flashing of a rom if that works. then format internal storage once you boot into rom.

fastboot flash userdata
if you unlock your phone, you should let the system boot up once before you flash twrp/cwm. it rebuilds the directory structure.

Flash a stock image to take phone back to stock.
Then fastboot oem unlock for bootloader
let the phone load up once, then do fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img
As for right now when you're in bootloader, try flashing stock recovery or FDR like another user said.

You don't have to copy anything to your phone. Google how to set up adb / fastboot on your computer. Once set up run the fastboot flash userdata from a command prompt that the other user suggested, sorry on don't remember his name (edit, Zepius). Do you have usb debugging on?
Still bootlooping after flash
Hi,
I have the same issue so I downloaded the factory image on the website then I tried to do these steps :
Code:
- fastboot erase boot
- fastboot erase cache
- fastboot erase recovery
- fastboot erase system
- fastboot erase userdata
- fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-hammerhead.img
- fastboot reboot-bootloader
[ Wait ]
- fastboot -w update rom-hammerhead.zip
(File names might be differents)
But now I still have a bootloop then I tried to acces to recovery mode but I can't mount /sdcard :crying:
Don't just erase. Flash relevant partitions, you phone will return to stock and boot loop will be gone.
Thank's but I don't know which command I have to type

flash <partition> [ <filename> ] write a file to a flash partition

[Q] Bootloop, Unable to mount '/cache', '/persist', storage

Hi,
Today I woke up to my phone boot-looping after leaving it to charge overnight, despite it having run fine for close to a month (I have been running Cataclysm ROM and TWRP 2.6.4.3 since I got my Nexus 5).
After a long wait at the Google and Nexus logos, there's a system popup of 'Android is upgrading' present on the screen. However, right after completing the 'updating of apps', the system popup 'Media Storage has stopped working' appears and the phone immediately restarts again.
Upon booting into TWRP, it presents me with a password screen, which I have never encountered before. After pressing 'Cancel' though, I'm directed to the TWRP main menu.
Attempts to factory reset the phone resulted in:
Formatting cache using make_ext4fs function.
E: Unable to mount '/cache'
Updating partition details...
E: Unable to mount '/cache'
E: Unable to mount '/persist'
E: Unable to mount storage.
Checking through the phone's internal storage with TWRP's file manager showed my internal storage as (0MB) and that the sdcard folder was empty. Other folders such as system and sys had subfolders which also were displayed as empty, though I'm not sure if that would be the case on a normally functioning device.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
EDIT: I tried restarting my phone again after posting and after spending a long period of time at the Nexus boot animation, the 'Android is upgrading' system popup now just flashes through a few messages before 'Unfortunately, Calendar has stopped working.' appears and the phone restarts. Not sure if this happened initially, or if this usually happens, but the phone loops from the Nexus boot animation.

Problem still exists, just that the phone now boots till the 'Select language' screen before a flood of '[Insert Google app/service] has stopped working.' system popups appear and the phone restarts.
TWRP still shows same messages when trying to factory reset, and file manager still shows 0MB internal storage.
EDIT: Apparently the phone is now boot-looping to the conditions as stated in the OP after trying to factory reset.

Just flash the stock image and see if you still have problems. What do you mean by there's not much you can do?
Quick question: What should I do if a particular img file keeps getting the <remote: flash write failure> error when trying to flash the stock factory images?

I don't want to sound like a black sheep, but something seems fishy about the emmc on nexus 5 devices
The cause is the method used to unlock/root? Or that casually, most cases are from Junior members that somehow are missing some important things here and there

[Q] Stuck on black screen

Need help! I recently bought a sim-free Moto G in Germany (I'm from Argentina).
I unlocked the bootloader and when I booted up, I got a lot of messages sayng that procesess had stopped. At first it started with systemui, then phone.android, then system and so on. Then I decided to try to reboot the phone. When I turned it on, it didn't get to the system, it just stayed on a black screen...:crying:
Update: It doesn't even finish the boot animation, and then it goes to a black screen
Fix: flash custom recovery, fix permissons, wipe cache and dalvik cache then installstock software through bootloader

Then I decided to try to reboot the phone. When I turned it on, it didn't get to the system, it just stayed on a black screen...:crying:
Update: It doesn't even finish the boot animation, and then it goes to a black screen

Restore Stock ROM with Fastboot
Please tell me how!!!!! I don't even know if it is charging anymore...
Is it done by going to recovery and selecting the "Factory option"?
If it's done that way, I have already tried ?
Anyone elsae have any ideas how to fix this?:fingers-crossed:
Maybe re-locking the bootloader?
Its not broken if you can enter fasboot (volume down and power) you can see if your phone charges or not as well

I had same issue... You need to do the following because your system images are not flashing.
What was your Previous ROM/Stock Firmware?
If you can enter fastboot and your computer detects it.. Good.
Redownload a STOCK firmware.
Now extract it to a new folder to use desktop.
Copy and past the mfastboot files into where you have extracted..
Now mfastboot flash them one by one.
Now you need to use your brain and not follow everyone else's posts because inside the extracted firmware the files can be written wrong to what your copy and pasting.
For instance I was trying the following.
" mfastboot flash system system.IMG"
This gave me sparse chunk error
Or
"Mfastboot flash system system.img sparse chunk1"
Wouldn't recognise the command
Neither worked because inside the firmware it was broken into 3 sparse chunks
They were written as
"system sparsechunk.0"
"system sparsechunk.1"
"system sparsechunk.2"
Just check what there called and copy and paste

Try clear app cache for the apps force closing..
Or flash twrp recovery and and wipe cache and dalvik and fixing permissions in advance.
If none of them help look for 4.2.2 gapps for stock
If none of these help the only thing I can suggest it retry flashing, should be a cache issue though 9 - 10 time it is. No worry's at friend I know how annoying it can be. Did my checking what the system.IMG files where called help?
Edit if all else fails I would try downgrading to 4.3 and updating ot

First of all, I forgot to mention that the com.android.phone has stopped message is persistent, when I press ok, it reappears, so I cant use the system.
Also, after rebooting the screen went black again just like before, and the recovery gets stuck on the splash screen...
(God did I f*ck up!)
Okay, try reflashing stock but this time try downgrade, that might work
Or reflash what you did in the first place to get this far..
Did all the commands say OKAY after flashing?
Did you use "mfastboot clear userdata"
And cache commands?

Reflash recovery, try doing it all in this order.
Flash Stock Firmware.
Reboot to boot loader
("mfastboot reboot reboot-bootloader")
Flash another recovery
Then reboot to recovery on fasboot menu on phone.

Status update: Magically, the recovery started working again by itself...
Is there a way to falsh a stock ROM from recovery? Because, from what I have seen, when I install a stock image through bootloader, it boots automatically to system. The thing is, when I reboot the phone, the screen goes black again just like before :fingers-crossed:
I will repeat it a million times if necessary: YOU ARE MY SAVIOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe download one, push to SD card using adb
I think the command is "adb push (file name).zip /sdcard" not sure though
Then install one over recovery
If it boots you know its a issue with the stock firmware your using

No need, I fixed permissions, wiped Cache and D. Cache, and then installed the stock software and it worked!!!!!!!!!
I really cannot thank you enough! :victory::good:
The thing is that I had an 8GB Moto G before, but someone stole it from me recently, so I would have died if I lost this one too.
