[Q] HTC One X (ATT) No OS - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Long story short, I had an issue with my HTC One X that I received from a friend. It would load up and then immediately restart about 15 seconds after getting to lock screen. I was just stuck in a boot loop.
So I decided to flash a new rom onto the phone, but neither I nor my friend had created a backup so now my OS is wiped.
I can boot into recovery mode, though. I'm not sure what the first screen is called, but it's the one with the skating androids. It tells me:

*** UNLOCKED ***

When I enter into recovery, it appears that I have TWRP v2.3.1.0.
In here, I cannot install any roms. They appear to fail. Installing says:

I had read somewhere that I need to upgrade my TWRP in order to properly install roms, but at the current moment, running adb devices in a command prompt pointed at my adt bundle folder does not work. It just has a blank list.
Attached is a photo with what I think are the most relevant things I've downloaded/installed so far.
It does look like I can connect my phone to the computer via Mount USB Storage, but sideloader does not work since adb devices is blank.
Any thoughts?

The first screen with the skating Androids is your bootloader, FYI. Adb commands aren't used for flashing a recovery, fastboot commands are used. You do indeed need to update TWRP, the version you currently have installed isn't compatible with any current ROMs. Click the guide link in my signature, there are instructions on anything you need to do there.

I Shift + Right Clicked to open command prompt in the folder with fastboot.exe and my recoveryfilename.img file.
In the command prompt, I enter in the command
Code:

and it just stays on
Code:

I still can't figure out how to update my TWRP without an OS.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro. ADB worked once. I was able to get it to detect in recovery. ADB Devices would give me the customary string of numbers followed by "RECOVERY" and then I rebooted the phone for some reason and it stopped working. Oh, during that time I was also able to move stuff to the phone via ADB Sideload, but I would get pretty much the same errors when installing, which I later found out was because my TWRP was too old. I can't seem to get it to connect via ADB/Fastboot anymore. I can, however mount via TWRP.

There's your problem. Windows 8.1 isn't compatible with fastboot. You'll need to get access to a PC with a lower version of Windows so you can update TWRP.

Oh, really? Will 8 or 7 work?
I used a Windows 7 laptop and was able to update my TWRP to v2.7.0.8!
Seem to still be unable to detect devices via adb devices command.
Ok. Had to update my drivers.
I'm following your instructions on How To Install A ROM with TWRP Recovery, and now my issue is that it is saying
Code:
error flashing zip '/sdcard/pac.zip'

You're gonna need to get s-off so you can update your firmware. In order to get s-off you'll need to flash the Kickdroid ROM. Once you've flashed Kickdroid you can go to the Rumrunner s-off site and get s-off. Then follow the instructions in my guide thread to update your firmware.

Alright, so I managed to get the Kickdroid ROM working! So right now I at least have a working phone that I can use! Thanks a TON for getting me this far.
Rumrunnner seems to not be working right for me. I'm in ADB recovery and can confirm an ADB connection, but it's still displaying
Code:
ERROR: run rumrunner again and READ (no adb connection to device. Debugging on? Drivers?)
But it's a start. I'll have to make sure I'm following all instructions carefully.

Possible Brick

Hey all,
So tonight I attempted to install the Unofficial AOKP Jelly Bean posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1862156
Before doing that, I followed the instructions to Unlock, Recovery, and Root my One S here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
After following those instructions, I then followed the instructions for AOKP Jelly Bean however my sdcard couldn't be mounted and the phone was in a boot loop if I didn't boot into fastboot by holding down the volume - and power buttons.
I attempted these instructions below however I couldn't get a stock recovery flashed.
1) Use the All-in-One-Kit and flash your recovery back to stock
2) Boot into the bootloader and choose to "clear storage" and afterwards to reset to factory defaults.
3) Go back to the all-in-one-kit and flash a CWM recovery version again.
4) Reboot into recovery (CWM). Your /sdcard should now be mounted and visible.
5) Now, try the UTB rom (it worked for me), rename the zip file to something short (i.e. utb.zip), and push it to the sdcard using adb as follows:

Still caught in the reboot loop, I relocked and tried to run an RUU file found here: http://www.htconeforum.com/forum/ht...e-your-htc-one-s-back-100-stock-relocked.html
I was able to successfully re-lock the phone however every time I try to run the RUU file it comes back with an error about 3-5 minutes into the process.
At this point, my phone boots into fastboot. At the top I have "Tampered, Relocked, Security Warning." My HBOOT is 1.14.0004 and my Radios is 1.08ts.50.02.16
I would appreciate any help if there is a solution. Thank you for your time!
Update: Not sure if this is helpful or not, but whenever I try to do something with The All in one toolkit the cmd window says device not found. Also, when I try to boot into recovery from fastboot, I get a green downward and circular arrows before getting the red triangle and exclamation point.
Update: Running the RUU mentioned above fails at the Signature stage and the cmd prompt when trying to write recovery returns "signature verify fail"
Are you s4 or s3? what kind of computer you got? The drivers need to be installed. then read up how to use android SDK. Then retry to flash the stock recovery using the same steps in your quote.

I am pretty sure I am S4 (tmobile USA). I am on a windows 7 home build, and the drivers should be installed (at least, I could use HTC sync before all of this). I'll definitely try again tonight. If anyone has any other suggestions they would be much appreciated!
Make sure HTC sync is NOT active on your pc. Try searching for the original version of one s all in one toolkit. It has the stock recovery. I'm pretty sure this unbrick method works for all hboot versions but don't take my word for it. Focus on your goal. Get stock recovery flashed. You can also try unlocking your boot loader again and using the all in one to reflash cwm. In some cases like mine. The unofficial cwm touch is the only successful flash I got. Ps. Try having your phone in fastboot. Plug in USB and see if it says "fastboot USB" then type your android SDK directory for your fastboot folder. For example open cmd
cd\
cd androidsdk\tools
androidsdk\tools fastboot devices.
Fastboot devices command will tell you if your drivers are working.
You can also type in adb devices instead of fastboot devices.
Hope this helps. But you probably already know this

Thanks for the help!
Here are my results:
HTC Sync is not running. Fastboot devices returns a device ID so that seems good. When trying to flash a stock recovery (that I got on this forum somewhere, but can't remember where) it sends it ok but I still get "remote: signature verify fail"
I unlocked the device and flashed TWRP 2.2.2.0 with the all in one tool kit. This put me back into the boot loop mentioned above. Once I manually got back into the bootloader and selected recovery, I was able to get into the TWRP recovery. At this point, I am kind of worried about doing anything. I would like to be able to push AOKP Unofficial JB if at all possible. Any further guidance would be appreciated!
Please, please don't use the toolkit. It makes people find problems later on and not know a thing about what to do.

It is clear to me that I didn't do enough research before getting into this. I thought my experience with putting custom roms on my galaxy S (a phone I really disliked) would give me the appropriate background. Clearly I was wrong! I'm a little unsure how to flash AOKP through TWRP when AOKP is not on my SD card. In fact, when I look at the SD card in TWRP, the only file on it is "TWRP."
I think I need to flash TWRP 2.3.0 (rather than the 2.2.2.0 I have), because it supports ADB Sideload (talked about here on their site which I can't yet link to). Can I do that through the Android SDK like I have been doing? I don't need to do anything to the TWRP 2.2.2.0 before trying to flash 2.3.0 do I? It seems if I do that, I could send AOKP to my phone through adb when it is in recovery.
And just for my better understanding, what is different about flashing it in TWRP and then flashing the boot.img in fastboot?
Thanks again!
You have to fastboot push the AOKP zip through the bootloader I think.

Just like the post above mine says, you have to adb push the file onto the sd card. I'm not to familiar with TWRP (using it actually got me into a bit of a dilemma) so I only know the process for CWM. If TWRP is anything like CWM then you have to be in recovery to adb push and have sdcard and system set to "unmont". It's pretty easy and there's a couple threads explaining how to do it. The command basically is :: adb push romname.zip /sdcard/romname.zip:: Note the space before "/sdcard" I'dpn't know if this ill help you or if you've solved your problem already but this is just my 2 cents, good luck!
Sorry for my late reply; I was rushed to the ER last night in excruciating pain. Looks like I'll be dealing with a kidney stone over the next few days.
So far, I have tried to push AOKP through fastboot. ADB says "no devices found" and when I type adb devices, I get "List of devices attached" and nothing under it. However, when I type fastboot devices, I do get a device ID. As of now, I am downloading the TWRP 2.3 recovery and will try to sideload with adb with that.
Update:
I was able to successfully install TWRP 2.3 and adb sideload the AOKP zip file. The phone then went back into a reboot loop, and I was able to get into recovery to install the .zip. The phone then rebooted, showed the HTC with red text screen very briefly, went to black, showed the HTC with red text screen again, went black, and now the aokp boot animation is repeating over and over. It has been doing so for about 5-7 minutes. I haven't yet installed gapps as mentioned in the AOKP post (I'm honestly not even sure what that is). Where should I go from here?
As a side note, the phone is plugged into power though the LED is not lighting up. It was at 98% when I flashed the .zip, but I obviously don't want it to die on me. Should I turn the phone off or is it still charging?

The newer hboot versions (1.13 and up) don't let you flash boot images in recovery, even if it reports success.
So there is technically no difference, except fastboot always works and recovery depends on hboot version.
Did you fastboot flash the boot image that comes with your rom?
-Jobo
Edit to add: So it seems that following the recipe in your post #1 did in fact make your sdcard mountable again, or did you do something else as well for that?
Fixed!
I ended up flashing the boot.img with fastboot and then going into recovery, factory resetting and then re-installing the rom (and gapps which I now know stands for google apps). I'll be playing around with the ROM but at least I have a working phone again!
I think, in the end, it came down to my sd card not being mounted and my lack of knowledge about how to fix it.

ADB Walkthrough

So I got this help in the CM Q&A but while I've rooted man devices (mostly with oDin and one-click utilities) I've never used ADB and now I'm wanting to go from a sense to AOSP ROM and can't find active links to ADB or tutorials other than (type something here), youtube hasn't been help either, can someone help e out? I had a hboot 1.85 XL so I had it easy when I rooted.

OPTIONAL- Remove red text from splash screen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2156368
INSTRUCTIONS
Thanks to @InflatedTitan for this breakdown.
While waiting for the RUU to download...
1. Download the 2 files for s-off and place in adb folder.
2. Download the recovery of choice and put in adb folder.
3 (optional) download the remove red text file and put in adb folder.
4. You'll have to downgrade touchscreen if you want to use aosp *SEE NOTE BELOW*. Head to original dev sticky to download files from h8rift. Put those in adb folder
_________________________________________
1. S-off! Make sure you confirm in bootloader (it usually works easier from a sense rom btw.) 4.2.2 roms need updated adb but it may work.
2. When you ruu, it doesn't touch sdcard. But I would quickly mount and backup your pics and whatnot just in case.
3. Enter fast boot. Run the ruu on the computer. It'll bring you back to 100% stock.
4. Once you up and running, enter fast boot again and send twrp. (Instructions below, insert whatever recovery image you're pushing)
Quote:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.1-recovery-evita.img
5. I recommend to get rid of the ugly ass red text on splash. Follow Liam's thread to rid it.
6. While in fastboot go ahead and downgrade touchscreen following h8rifts instructions.
7. Now you're golden to flash anything you want
*Note as of the 06/26 Nightly, you do NOT need to downgrade your touchscreen. However if you encounter any touch-related problems using TWRP 2.3.3.x, you should flash the downgrade in fastboot to move on. I'd recommend 2.5.0.0 on the latest touchpanel firmware. It works for me but if you run into trouble, downgrade the touchscreen and flash the recommended TWRP recovery.
ADB is a command line shell for accessing your phone remotely using linux commands. So many linux command line commands will work within adb. To become an ADB master, use linux command line.

TF300T 4.2 TWRP Error

Hi XDA,
I am a complete noob, and this is my first time posting, so bear with me.
Some time ago I rooted and unlocked my TF300 with SuperSu. Recently I wanted to upgrade to 4.4 kitkat. However, my Tablet was stuck at Andriod 4.1 because of the the unlock.
I went to manually update my TF via the Asus website. I installed the 10.6.1.8 using my TWRP 2.5, and Oem 4.1 OS. Installation worked just fine. After install, I booted up and I had 4.2 with everything working correctly.
Next step was to install TWRP 2.7.0.1. I reset my TF and went into RCK to see something went wrong when updating.
My TWRP will not load, and I get the Android on his back with the red triangle when I try to enter RCK.
Thanks in advance!!
I managed to install 10.6.1.27, but it did not change anything with my boot loader.
I downloaded motochopper, but that didn't seem to work, just told me my abt was out of date. SuperSu isn't working now either, "No Binary, There is a problem."
How do I install TWRP 2.7 with no boot loader? Please help.

Most people just install TWRP via fastboot like
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
You could try using other root methods, like Framaroot or Kingo. I think Kingo was reported to work on the latest stock version.

I will look into that, but I am pretty sure I was already rooted, unless losing my boot loader means I am no longer rooted.
Another thing, I can't find a twrp.blob for 2.7, just a zip. I have one for 2.5, but that is useless because I already have 4.2. I also have not been able to find a working link to fastboot.
If anyone could give me a link to the fastboot or a link to a tutorial, that would be amazing. I have done my research, but all the lingo and different methods can be mind bending.
Thanks

You can get the img (which substitutes as a blob) from extracting it from the TWRP 2.7 zip file.
1) You will need ADB and fastboot for this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269. I would suggest keeping the tablet at least at 50% battery.
2) Install Naked Drivers. This may be optional for you. If you can proceed to the next step without, you won't need it.
3) Enter fastboot by rebooting and holding down the power button. TF300 enters fastboot automatically since this is 4.2 BL.
4) Next we need to enter a command. In side the ADB folder, hold shift and right click. Then select Open command window here.
first check to make sure the device is connected:
Code:
fastboot devices
The device serial number should be listed.
enter command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img -i 0x0b05
Blue bar on device will fill. Be patient.
5) Reboot the Device back into Android. This is an important step.
6.) Go back into TWRP and install what you want.
You are amazing. I will give it a try tonight and report back!

Installed adb fastboot. However, my device does not automatically go into fastboot, I still have to hold down the volume key.
Once I am in fastboot usb (with the 3 icons), I fastboot successfully and get the serial number, then when I type the 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img -i 0x0b05' command I get this error: cannot load 'twrp.img' : No error
I am attemping to use the 2.7.0.1 twrp from the 4.4.2 page. I have extracted the recovery.img (tried renaming to twrp and left it the same) and placed it in the root of both my external and internal sd.
I have now tried it with .zips .img .blob and I receive the same error everytime. Not sure what I am doing wrong now.

Awesome! Worked like a charm. twrp 2.7.0.1 installed perfectly.
Then I tried to flash the cyanogenmod. Said it installed fine, but it just gets stuck on the loading screen...
I am trying to do exactly what TallMilk is doing...put Cyanogenmod on my tablet. It is my understanding that I have to unlock my bootloader though? Which I have tried doing a million different ways with the Asus Unlock tool which always gives me an error.
If I follow the instructions posted above I will be able to flash Cyanogenmod without unlocking my bootloader?

Finally got it to work. I had to do a wipe first, read about old roms interfering with new installations.
SilentSpartan, I used SuperSU last year to root and unlock my tablet when it was still a 4.0 android to flash to 4.1. This recent update was from 2.5 TWRP on a rooted device running 4.2. When I installed 4.2, it blew away my TWRP, and I had to flash the new TWRP 2.7.0.1.
That flash from OEM fastboot to TWRP 2.7.0.1 is what I needed help with.

You're going to have to unlock no matter what. Did you try both v7 and v8 of the unlocker and calling Asus Support to tell them to put your serial number back into the database (get a manager)?

I've tried every firmware and unlock tool combination. Nothing works. I sent them an email a day ago. Depending on there response, maybe I'll try calling. I'm so fed up with this tablet, I'm about to throw it out my window. $400 POS. :good:

[Q] Deleted my OS! | OnePlus One

Today was the worst day ever. I rooted my phone, and it worked perfectly until today. What happened was that when I updated the Google Play Services, I lost connection anything Google related (No connection) I factory reset my phone 4 times, wiped the internal storage, and it still said that I couldn't connect to the Play Store (E.X Could not establish a reliable connection). So I went into recovery and went to Advanced Wipe, and without knowing so, I deleted my OS! Im so stupid..
I FORGOT I WASN'T AN IT...
For the past two days I've been trying to get back the OS (33R). Heres what I've done
1. Downloaded the XNPH33R OS from their website and tried to install it (says NO MD5 Verification)
2. Tried doing everything about resetting OS.
3. HUGEST PROBLEM : Whenever I try and do (e.g adb sideload <rom.>.zip, or flashing) It just says Error: Device not found
4. Downloaded ADB from the Android Debug Bridge, all of my cmd commands return the same thing.
3. Also a huge problem: When I try to flash, it says (device not unlocked) and then I unlock the bootloader (Im guessing what that is will unlock it) and then I go back to the Recovery and do it again on CMD, it repeats it.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
(If you need more information I will gladly give it to you)

Go into Device Manager, and make sure your OPO is listed as under ADB Interface while the OPO is in bootloader mode. If it's not there then yes install or reinstall the adb driver but make sure you don't have any other devices with a triangle next to it as that may be your OPO.

Does your OPO get listed when you enter "fastboot devices" ? When you had originally rooted and unlocked your OPO had you done it through CMD or a toolkit?

Ok so let me get this straight:
You had originally unlocked your bootloader and rooted through the cmd: "fastboot oem unlock" ?
Did you use this guide by any chance?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
Now you have no installed os and whenever you try to sideload or push stock 33R through adb it gives an error of the device not being found to the adb shell? Or does it complain that the bootloader is unlocked? If the second is happening you might need to reset the unlock and tamper bits,
Sorry if I'm asking something you already stated. I just want to be clear before I recommend anything or try to pull someone who's more experienced in for help.

Yeah I used that guide. And yes, what you stated is true. But another thing is that when I install the ROM, it says No MD5 file, but when I check the zip file, it says that there is a file called md5sum-fastboot.md5, I think that that is what TWRP is saying.
Are you able to use adb to push a zip to your internal storage?

If you can, just push a recovery flashable version of CM11S from here to your phone and flash it with TWRP. No sideload required.

I have not tried, but I was able to view the internal storage and place the ROMs inside /sdcard/

He is right. If you can actually see the internal storage, you should be able to flash a flashable version of stock 33R from TWRP.
Actually if you are on the latest TWRP you can probably use the MTP functions and copy the file over without having to adb push it.
If you don't have the latest TWRP you can download the .img and flash it via the fastboot command. The latest is 2.8.0.1

You just flash it like you would flash any ROM, using the install feature in TWRP. Download it from the link I provided before.

The URL is
https://cyngn.com/products/oneplusone/
The name is
cm-11.0-XNPH33R-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip with the MD5 Checksum of 2c5bcbb3230501f2b841b56cac392bcb

Can't Update to 11.0-XNPH38r Incremental (Chinese OPO)

So I bought a Chinese OnePlus One, and it came pre-installed with CM 11 version 11.0-XNPH33r.
Connected to wifi, and got the system update for 11.0-XNPH38r Incremental, so I click download and install.
It reboots phone, then it loads ColorOS recovery looking screen with Chinese written on it and a green loading bar, then The CM splash icons comes back and loads. (alien looking guy with an arrow circling around his head)
After all that, I go to check the version and I'm still stuck at 11.0-XNPH33r!
I tried manually doing it from ColorOS recovery with 11.0-XNPH38r Incremental zip file, it installs about 3/4 of the way and then fails.
My Kernel Version is : 3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g0ad30e5
My ColorOS Recovery Version is : 1.2 (Rooted)
I've been looking around the forums, and I see people manually updating using TWRP which I don't have.
Can someone please help me, and if you have a solution can you please give me a step by step direction since I'm new to flashing/rooting and this phone.
I have a guide thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2839471
It contains instructions on how to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP recovery (sections 1 and 2). Before doing anything though you should check the status of your bootloader because it might already be unlocked. You'll need to follow the instructions at the top of the guide to install your phone drivers and also adb/fastboot via the Android SDK. Once you have done that you can boot your phone into fastboot mode (hold power + volume up), connect your phone to your PC via usb cable, open a command prompt from your fastboot folder (shift + right click anywhere within the foler, then select open command prompt here), and issue this command:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
Please post the results here.
Thanks man, I'll try that out.

TY for you help. I manage to get a custom recovery (TWRP), but I still can't update past 33R, when I update I get "E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/cache/cm-bacon-3628510d76-to-ac1ccf7921-signed.zip

Thanks man. I actually tried the flashing of 44s on the guide you sent me and it worked. Sorry for my last reply. You've been a great help and my phone is up to date.
Two last question if you don't mind. When the new update comes, can I install through Settings> About Phones> System Updates
or do I have to do something similar to the flashing I just did
after flashing my custom recovery is gone (TWRP) and the Cyanogen Mod Recovery took its place. Should I leave it like that or get TWRP and if TWRP is the answer, do I use the same method I did installing the custom recovery?
You should now have no problems receiving automatic updates through the settings menu. You can leave the stock recovery if you want to, or you can flash TWRP again. If you don't intend on flashing any custom ROMs or mods then the stock recovery should suit you just fine. Flashing a recovery is done via fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.4.1.img
(where the recovery filename is twrp-2.8.4.1.img)
