[Q] Where to download roms? - General Questions and Answers

Hello. I'm new here. I just updated my Samsung Note 2 SGH-I317M with Bell Canada. I now have Android 4.4.2
I don't need instructions on how to root/unlock. I've done it in the past using a program called Odin.
All i need to know is where do i download the correct rom for my phone?
I've looked on this website but i can't seem to find the rom section. Is there a different website that everyone gets their roms?
Please help me.

Most good brand phone roms are here on xda-developers. but if you have chinese phone look them on needrom.com. also there are plenty of roms on 4pda.ru forum (if you know russian).

I don't understand russian or chinese and sam's mobile only has stock roms.
I ended up finding one made by someone called chainfire
Good thing we have smart people who do this, I really hate how cellphone companies install so many junk apps.
It works good. Anyways, Thanks for the replies.

Chinese Android Phones can you flash?

i want new phone unlocked because my g1 is slow but i was curious if there was a way to know if the chinese android phone is flashable and using which rom? and which is a good phone to buy ...
bumpppppp/
It hasn't even been 3 hours, there's no need for a bump. Also I don't think those cheap knockoffs can be flashed but it's possible. First you have to root it though which is probably possible with one of the "one-click root" apps. Actually flashing one is a bit more involved because of hardware differences. Next time just get the real phone instead of a knockoff, save yourself some headache and heartache at not being able to do everything you want.
i actually have a g1 thank you very much handsome
Well then take out the "next time"s from my previous post and I stick by it. Knockoffs generally aren't that great. Getting the real version from a store is better, even craigslist or ebay.
I rooted my galaxy note replica with bin4ry it worked perfectly as for flashing i have flashed a few things but to flash a rom it would be harder because i have found out i would have to port the custom rom to work with my device.

What did I miss? Why the assumption that the OP is talking about a "cheap knock-off". Maybe he means a Huawei, or ZTE or something.
Rooting android from China

It will depend on the device you have. You should search xda for your device name, but if it is a cloned device, you may not be able to find anything, because some clones are not well supported.

Question about two different stock rom options

hey guys, i tried searching the forums but ended up having to post this question. is "GT-P3113_XAR_1_20120412104938_ldcgx9tzmx.zip" (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645295) the same as "IML74K-P3113UEALCB-stock.zip" (dead link found here: http://goo.im/devs/jcase/IML74K-P3113UEALCB-stock.zip)?
just curious if they are the same because i will be reverting my galaxy tab 2 7.0 back to stock rom to send it in for repairs.
just thought i'd ask here since xda developers are the best in the biz right now.
thanks in advance.
The thing is you need to be sure it matchs your region you bought it from.
Check samsung-updates.com, they have the latest in different areas directly from the samsung kies servers.
Hope this helps

just bought the galaxy tab 2 7.0 from Costco. I think I need the one from goo apps but link has been disabled. Wish "jcase" could reupload it.
**UPDATE**: the model # on my original box says "GT-P3113TSSXAR". SW-VER is "UEALD3". so yes, i do need the version that jcase had uploaded. damn.

[Q] How can I get an official update from a device with a ROM demo?

Hello all.
I recently bought a Samsung Focus S (i937) on eBay, but the equipment was a mobile phone demonstration of a store, and as such came with a demo ROM (7.10.7739.25), now I want to install on it a normal rom official, can someone help?
My best bet is trying to find an official ROM for it up here, and then flash it.

There is no way to install ROM on this device.
In my opinion, the only way out of this demo version would be to find a CAB file leading to update.
Here is a thread where you can find official ROMs and flashing tools with complete discription.

SparkW (Verizon Trophy) users had this problem. For the longest time, the only leaked flashable roms turned our phones into demo models! It was terrible because the device would reset itself every day at midnight, and all your data/programming (this is a CDMA phone after all) would be gone!
We where finally granted a solution in that a full Mango rom leaked before Mango's release to Zune, so we could finally "un-demo" our phones. It wasn't for a few months after that that DFT added support for SparkW with their unlocked bootloaders.
If you cannot find a flashable rom, perhaps your phone has an unlocked bootloader available? With that, you could possessively flash a 3rd party rom. I don't know anything about Samsung phones, so I don't know how useful my input is. I do understand how manually pushing updates is a waste a time (it really is.. just a complete waste) as it won't remove the package creating the demo.
Looking at the Samsung Focus S forum.. how is this device not a legacy/low use device on xda? The Spark/Trophy forum is way more active then this?! ;

With the new updates for wp7.8 had news for the Focus S?
Once the zune doesn't update the device, it can be possible to obtain the update via the SevenEighter?
I've tried but without success.

[Q] about flashing roms

I'm now using Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 with android 4.1.2. Recnetly, I want to flash the S5 roms posted by other developers. However, those roms are in android 4.3 or 4.4.2. Can I directly flash it or do I need to upgrade my device to android 4.3 first?
thanks so much!
You can't flash a s5 ROM onto your s3, it will brick.

ok, i looked into the s3 forum and i see the s5 rom there.
this is either a rare instance where another phones rom is compatible or more likely what is known as a "port". it wasnt obvious right off what was the case.
either way, sorry for the confusion, it would be ok to flash that as long as its says its compatible with your phone.
generally speaking, you cant just grab a rom for any phone and flash it to another. that would result in a brick, and i jumped to conclusions and thought that was what you were trying to do.
as far as, if you need to upgrade first, im not sure about that.
some roms require you to be on a specific version first, otherwise it will bootloop after you flash the rom.
reason being, roms dont usually replace all parts of the software, but are built off or made to work with certain versions specifically because the use some of those non replaced parts to work correctly.
i would read through a few pages of the rom post. most likely someone has asked if it will work on whatever version or stated what version you need to be on for it to work.
if you cant find any answer, then i would ask the question there.
sorry i cant be of more help.
one bit of advice that i always follow myself, read into flashing back to stock and download all needed files and tools first. this way, if you have any issues, or just dont like the rom, you already have a backup plan in place to get your phone working again like you want it.
just my 2c hope that helps.

Need help flashing ND8 firmware.

I was looking at how-to's for flashing a custom ROM onto my new phone (which I rooted with TowelRoot), and it said you need ND8 firmware to flash an ND8 ROM. However, I can't find this anywhere. Can someone help me out? I'm looking to flash LiquidSmooth, eventually, not for any particular reason other than I don't really like the default and it was recommended to me.

Unless it's a typo, the Sprint Galaxy S5 does not have an ND8 version. Also, AFAIK, there isn't a LiquidSmooth rom for the Sprint S5 either. You posted over on MOAR, so I'm sure with a little more information on what you've done so far (and more reading on your part), we'll get you up and running.

Yeah, I realized after I posted this that I was still in Galaxy S3 mode and that it's probably different for S5. I've done as much reading as I could find, but it didn't really help me too much. A lot of terminology that I didn't understand.
This thread can be closed, if'n that would please the people.
