I've heard about both of these issues with this case. It is very well documented here on the interweb.

First issue is resolvable by placing a little bit of baby powder on a microfiber cloth and cleaning both the underside of the screen protector and your phone screen. This is caused by moisture (even if you think its dry its not, moisture (H2O vapor) exists everywhere. period.) so the baby powder helps to absorb the excess moisture.
Second issue - I have the case myself, never saw a plastic tab on the earpiece, that piece that i think you took off is supposed to be there. What i can say though is make sure the top of the case is completely snapped in, the plastic on the case should be tight against the earpiece. This is one thing i didn't care too much for on the LifeProof. My Seidio Obex on my S4 solved this by having an actual plastic piece at the top. But this case for the S5 has not been an issue in that respect. The only issue i had was people said i sounded muffled. this was because the plastic membrane at the microphone had become loose and wasn't tight against the phone. I have since gotten a replacement from them. I think i called them or live chatted though, the email method is slower. But so far this new case has been perfect.
Thanks I will call them if they don't email me back at the end of the week...I have not had a issue with anyone saying I sounded bad just that I can not hear threw the earpiece...speaker on the back sound's fine great case other then that
i know someone that has the case for they s5 and when they make calls the person on the receiving end can hear there echo. not sure if its been discussed before. Removed the case and issue was fixed.

I have the exact same problem. People seem to hear me not bad but not great, but I can hardly hear them at all. i have to turn the speaker on to be able to hear them. The speaker works fine. I also peeled off that plastic tab. Very frustrating.
Galaxy s5 lifeproof case earpiece isssues
Yea im having the exact same problems cant hear at all and also the blurriness of the screen. Im to point where im about to take a razor blade and cut a hole where the earpiece is lol. I had a couple different lifeproof cases a couple years ago and i never had problems with hearing but now it sucks if im not in a quiet area there's no point in even trying to make a call
Lifeproof issues
To all of you having problems with the lifeproof case causing the earpiece volume to be very low and are wondering about that little black tab on the inside of the screen cover i finally got answers for that. Ive read on here theres a lot of people that did the same as i did and peeled off that black tab well ive done some research and bought another lifeproof case and after leaving the black tab on this time i could actually hear! And also i found a install video on the lifeproof website and if you zoom in on the video you can clearly see that they show the case being installed with the black tab in place. I hope this helps some of you.

I know this has been discussed before but how many people can hear a noise which sounds like a spring when they open the keyboard. Feels very flimsy and nowhere near as solid as the tytn.
I hear it too; I thought it was just me. I had the Hermes before this, and I wouldn't characterize the slider as solid though
I hear it, but it feels pretty solid to me.
I hear it too, I don't like it one bit. Feels pretty solid though
a spring noise
I have no such thing as a spring noise when opening my keybord...
so my awnser to the poll: NO

Dont think its a spring, but a slider that protects the ribbon cable. when the device is open
Having listened again its more of a rattle and it rattles when the keyboard is open if you move the device about.
Hi All,
I maybe had the same thing.
If u flip your keyboard and turn your TP around u can see a little panel. This seem to be protecting something. This panel can go up and down and does so when you flip your kboard. In this panel is a spring
On My first TP (i switched mine becos of this fault) the panel jumped open, which sounded like a spring.
I ttink this is the problem.
I returned to the store and switched mine, np since.
Hope this helps
Mine is brand new today so do you think I should send it back? From the poll, seems about 50/50 people have the problem.
Edit...
It has all become clear, I can see the little plastic cover that is loose making the noise. Dont know if its suposed to be loose or not though
It's supposed to be loose, it moves while u flip your keyboard.
What happened with my old one (just after tweo days) that when i flipped my kboard, the plastic cover moves to far and opens for a brief second, hence the sound. I still have the sound but it's way softer cos tha plastic cover dont move that much.
Hope this helps, if u worry, return it, way to expensive !

There's a video on youtube of an asian guy beating the heck out of the screen. Basically the only thing that scratched it was an exacto knife. Then he dropped it from like five and a half feet and the screen imploded lol.

I was just wondering if my Captivate has regular glass or not, this is good to know. It's funny this information is not advertised like the iPhone 4 gorilla glass, which is plastered on every site that shows phone specs.
While we're at it, does the Captivate have noise cancellation? I only asked cause i had my Captivate hooked up to my car speakers and kept getting a loud piched echo sound while I was on a call today. The same annoying sound I used to get on my iPhone 3G.
Thanks in advance

I don't think the iphone actually has Gorilla glass. I think it has an equivelent type of panel that some have said is used is the aeronautics industry.
I agree that they should use this is a marketing tool.
The Captivate has a noise reduction circuit, but does not have multiple mics for noise cancellation. I'd says the echo is some kind of feedback.

No, no cancellation. Do you get the feedback when plugged into the charger and stereo or just the stereo. Never got it on my old fuze but do get it on the wifes 3g and my captivate. Only happens when we have the phone plugged in to charge. Pitch gets louder as the rpms get higher.

The cappy just has noise cancellation circuitry but it works really good. I was in a club on a friday night with some friends and my girlfriend called me and she could clearly hear me talk over the loud music. She said she could also hear the music but she could hear me without any strain and I wasn't yelling into the phone or anything..
^cappy? Really, did you just call it that?

Mine survived a good beating, but a few days ago I dropped it from the top of my stairs to a tile floor below, glass didn't break but the lcd inside was cracked to bits. Glad I actually got the insurance this time

Yea lol, I'm running JH3 rom, JP3 Modem.bin off the i9000 phones, and the Vibrant kernel. This thing is Frankensteined to hell ATM, BUT HSUPA is working muhahahah.
This dude managed to break his Gorilla Glass dell streak like the first day he got it rofl.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuuWRB43HCE
Does Gorilla glass even protect against the glass from breaking? I thought it just protected against scratches, etc.
From the video he was saying it was indestructable...which glass obviously is not. I have heard that Samsung is testing some kind of super hard plastic for the OLED screens so they can bend a little.
Im thinking of taking off the screen protector, if it is indeed gorilla glass or similar, but my first captivate got 2 small tiny scratches on it and it really pissed me off. I got a bodyguardz on it now.
Can you link to the specific bodyguards item? Thanks

Actually Gorilla glass is more resistant to breaking than regular glass, not scratching. However, most screens are a type of plastic, maybe acrylic or polycarbonate. Any type of glass is MUCH more scratch resistant than these plastics. I've read that the edges are still vulnerable so a silicone case or something similar should help a lot. I'm really enjoying the feel of the glass so I think i'm gonna skip on the screen protector.
I've got strange discoloration in the upper right corner of my captivate - not on the screen itself, but on the glass to the right of the ATT logo. Seems really aparent when I run my finger over, looks like the upper right of the screen is lighter, and its really apparent when there is finger oil or in sunlight.
Anyone see the upper right of their captivate screen, some sort of lighter discoloration? Not sure if I somehow messed with that part of the glass but it seems a perfect oval.
This probably makes no sense and i'll try to take a picture.

When your a company that makes high end products, you dont have to advertise it. The people should already "know" lol. Software might not be that good right now, but the hardware is top notch on this phone.

Basically my theory is that the anti smudge coating is wearing off quite quickly on the machine. That smudge that you see is right where my leg was rubbing in my pants pockets this weekend while I had 4 days in amsterdam. Walked a LOT with this thing in my pants pocket and noticed just getting back home this strange smudge that wouldnt come off.
Its very apparent most of the time, its not GLARING as you can see by some of the no flash shots I took.. obviously its not great and if you zoom in with my pics you will notice a wearing down pattern.. makes me nervous the coating on this thing isn't built to last. Certainly it didnt last a weekend in amsterdam admittingly my jeans are pretty tight generally (dang europeans!)
Anyways the glass might not scratch but the coating comes off and i'm sure others will see this soon. My friend with a Vibrant has been playing non stop emulators on it and he says there are "holes" on the screen where his virtual buttons are. He freaked out but now figured he'll just wear down the whole screen in the same way anyway.
Obviously in my case its just the top easy to ignore but not great.. just watch out i guess guys. my case is getting to me in a few days - a few days too late LOL it might have been saved had I had the case earlier.

I have not seen any mention of a coating on the glass by Samsung or by Corning (if our phones do have Gorilla Glass). The only phone that ever advertised a coating (that i know of) is the iPhone 3GS.
I would just like to see some mention of coatings - kind, purpose, etc. from some official source before i worry about it.
Gorilla Glass Official
It is on all Galaxy S models: Captivate, Vibrant, etc. It is listed on their website.
I recently got a Note 10.1 for me and one for my gf. After a few days I was getting extremely bothered by what I can only explain as creaking sounds when holding the tablet. By creaking I mean like a haunted house, very similar to the plastic sounds of when you grab a keyboard from only one side. My GF's makes zero sounds.
I couldnt take it, so I switched it but this one still makes the sounds. Definitely not as bad but still.
Does any of your tablets make these sounds?
Nope .
jje
No, if you can exchange it for another
.
Have 2, no sounds, bought 1 for my brother and a friend, both as quite a church mice....
i get it on my tablet but i'm not bothered by it so much.
I got a case coming in this weekend, hopefully this will make the noises less noticeable. I'm not sure I want to go through the hassle of exchanging again it but if the noise is not reduced with the case I may do so again.
It just feels like cheap plastic, it's maddening that its such an amazing device yet it has such a crappy outer shell.

Not a fake is it ???

Yup, they are originals bought from Wal Mart. I fixed it by chance. I opened it up, which is fairly easy and noticed that the noise came from the hinges of the back plastic grinding against the slots were they fit in.
I tried fixing it by safely applying double sided tape at different places, after trying different spots the noise started to get worse, so I decided it was time to go to bed and I reassembled the tablet. To my surprise when everything was back in place, the unit felt as solid or even more than my GFs and I could not make it sound regardless of the pressure I applied.
My conclusion is that somehow I worked the hinges of the back plate in a way that it stopped making sounds once I removed the double sided tape.
One thing I'm sure of is that the noise is indeed coming from the backplate hinges.
Hey guys,
So as i was admiring my S7 from all angles (truly a beautiful phone) under the sunlight, i noticed something weird. Just above the front speaker grill, i noticed 2 stains in like a form of pyramide. I tried to wipe it off, but nothing. So im afraid its maybe water (since it was raining hard the past week) or i don't know, maybe humidity ? What could it be ? Its midly annoying, could it be the sign that the "waterproofing" of my phone is deficient?
take a close look
http://imgur.com/a/OMWSA
I tried differents method to try to remove it. I tried to like "sucking" it out with my mouth as i though maybe its water but nothing, i also tried to use my hairdryer and proceed to put it in front of the speaker but still nothing.
Do you think its something that could be considered serious ? should i try to repair it in a center ?
I never used it in water and i bought the phone brand new 1 month ago, case and screen protector since day 1.
Looks like the paint coating is peeling off from the front glass. This happened to my friend on her s5, and I've heard several people with s7 have the same issue.

If u have warranty, take it to samsung. It's ridiculous for a 1 month old phone to already have paint peeling off issues.
I mean, that's only estethic, it won't cause any other issues, it just looks ugly.
The paint is like a sticker that is glued on the glass, and it tends somstimes to unpeel if the glue isn't applied well.

Hi Guys, maybe this is a stupid and weird question, but I was wondering when you open ( unfold ) the phone, and you are in super quiet room, do you hear scratching sound coming out of the phone? Or is the opening very quiet without any noise at all? Is that sound that I hear the brushes cleaning the hinge? I just noticed this sound and I am not sure if it was there since the beginning. Unfortunately, I was in really dusty place and had my phone in my jeans front pocket and I am paranoid that maybe some of that dust got inside.
Thank you for your answers.

It's actually pretty quiet. If you put your ear up to it, you can hear the bristles/hinge, but it really is not a noticeable sounds.
Mine too so far has been quiet. I have also applied a transparent matte skin on my hinge so far no issues. I am using the spigen slim armor pro case which protects the hinge. still, once in a week or so I clean my hinge but I haven't yet used it in any dusty environment.
Mine does this at times, I've also noticed its worse if I have left it open or closed for a while. If you open and close it a few times its not as noticeable. I assumed thus was just the hinge brushes doing their thing.

This is exactly what mine does. Some people have speculated that it's the preinstalled screen protector that makes the sound. I think they said the sound went away after removing it, but mine is staying on. I have got used to the sound.
