[Q] ota upgrade problem - General Questions and Answers

hello!
i have a motorola xt925 (razr hd). originally had an australian telstra rom, with android 4.1.2. after i understand that telstra will not release an upgrade to kitkat for this device crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Device-Updates/Handset-Software-Updates-09-09-2014/td-p/355477, i have replaced the rom with the retail central european (Blur_Version.98.21.22003.XT925.CEE-Retail.en.EU), from here: sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=6 , based on this article: android.gs/unroot-droid-razr-hd-xt926-downgrade-stock-firmware
everything worked just fine. the device is not rooted. now i have the stock recovery and retail european rom, but my device still can not upgrade to kitkat. i have tried upgrading from phone, and also from the motorola device manager. it says: there are no updates for your device at this time. current version: 9821.22003xt925.cee-retail.en.eu my bootloader is unlocked, but motorola says this sould not affect the upgrade motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/91999/p/1449,8620
please help!
thank you!

[Q] Carrier Lock?

Hi Guys,
i am from india and recently i have bought factory unlocked Motorola Droid Ultra from USA.
before this one, i was using Motorola Defy Plus with CyanogenMod.
so now i want to install CyanogenMod on Droid Ultra as well.
but before i step ahead and mess up with anything,
i just want to keep a backup file with my self to unbrick my droid ultra in case something goes wrong.
but there was a sbf file (firmware file) for Motorola Defy Plus which we can use with RSD Lite and restore our phone easily.
so my main question is-
Motorola Droid Ultra is a Verizon phone and if i flash latest verizon firmware file from here,
will it lock carrier network to Verizon or not?
if it locks, then is there any patch to unlock it?
and one more question,
as our device supports Moto X firmwares and roms,
can i flash the latest firmware file from here (Android 4.4.2, Blur_Version.164.55.2.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US) directly on our Droid Ultra?
will it work or brick?
*Sorry for my bad English.

If you have an unlocked bootloader you can flash the moto x firmware, just know that there are certain files that once you flash to 4.4.2, they cannot be downgraded back to 4.4.
As far as flashing the stock Droid Ultra firmware, I do not think that it will relock to the carrier. It is my understanding that the carrier lock is not based on the software but is unlocked on verizon's end.
thanks for your reply... i have downloaded the latest firmware but now can see that Verizon is already rolling out 4.4.4... so i will update it first...

I think your 'factory unlocked' phone is carrier unlocked, but the bootloader is still locked.
In that case, once you upgrade to 4.4.4, you won't be able to root since the vulnerability is patched.
So, you have to root before you upgrade to 4.4.4.
You can use a tool called House of Moto to downgrade to 19.5.3 without losing your data. Then you can root.
The site you are using for downloading FXZ is correct.

WTF! you mean to say that i was able to downgrade from (4.4 KK) 19.6.3 to 19.5.3? and can root it on a locked bootloader?
Sadly, yesterday i have updated it to 4.4.4 using OTA. now is it possible to flash 4.4 16.5.3 using that tool?

Now, it is not possible since the bootloader itself has got updated in 4.4.4. So, you cannot downgrade.
Damn!! When i was on 4.4, everyone told me that 4.4 is not rootable and now after upgrading to 4.4.4, you are telling me that 4.4 was rootable... :'(

[Q] Custom ROM

Hello,
I'm really new to modifying phones. I'm switching from Verizon to AT&T, had upgraded to .15, and hadn't root. I bought an old phone with a broken screen and just swapped the screens. The old owner had already rooted the device.
Since I have gotten the Razr Maxx HD, XT926, I have unlocked the boot loader and installed CWM. I'm not sure what the phone currently has loaded on it as it doesn't recognize my current Verizon SIM, however here is the information in about:
System Version: 9.16.6.ST926.Verizon.en.US
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: VANQUISH_BP_1045.711.53.20P
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-ge491d6d
Build Number: 9.8.1Q-62_VQW_MR-2
What I would like to know is what ROM should I flash to? Can I flash to any ROM designed for this phone? I don't have to upgrade in steps like you would with OTA? Additionally would you recommend a stock firmware or custom? If I upgrade to KK or CM would I need to re-unlock the bootloader? I know I'm going to have to unlock the radio for AT&T.
Thanks for the guidance, I really don't know where to start and I've tried several of the tutorials. It just seems that once I start understanding what to do I get introduced to a new basic topic which I know nothing about.
Thanks again,
David

Question OTA

Hello. I have a following doubts. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place.
And that recently could not stand waiting for the official OTA motorola moto G 1st generation. Ai made a forced update to 5.0.2. Tired of Roma decided to install another rom. I made the conversion pro GPE, and installed the rom, I was a few days with her, but because of the 2 chip back to Stock kit kat. But I came across a soft brick, do not leave the boot animation after a while remade, and I could go back to 4.4.4 sotck retail.br. Today I received the OTA motorola, for lollipop 5.0. But is your problem, I have seen countless topics that update over the air, the cell will stay with hard brick. Because the bootloader.
You got a problem I install OTA lollipop?
Bootloader version: 41.18 (sha-99084d5, 10/29/2014 23:54:18 (using 4.4.4 Kit kat Stock reatil rom)

How can I re-lock Bootloader from Moto G 4g? XT1040 Peregrine

Hello! I have an Unlocked Motorolla Moto G 4G LTE 5.1 (XT1040)
Some time ago, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my device with the Peregrine root Software, but now I would like to Lock the Bootloader again, and I'm reading all kinds of different messages online saying that I can only Lock it again with a software of the same Android version (5.1) or else it could get bricked. But now I can't seem to find the specific Android version that I have to use, because I've also read that it has to be the same specific system version, but I can't find it. As far as I remember, I haven't installed any other ROM before.
I've already unrooted it through the supersu app.
Can I use, for example, this firmware?: XT1040_PEREGRINE_AMXPR_5.1_LPBS23.13-35.5-1_cid12_CFC.xml.zip
Specific Moto G info.
Android Version: 5.1
System Version: 23.26.5.peregrine_retla.retla.en.01 niipe
Compilation Version: LPB23.13-35.5
TWRP 2.7.1.0
