[Q] Carrier Lock? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
i am from india and recently i have bought factory unlocked Motorola Droid Ultra from USA.
before this one, i was using Motorola Defy Plus with CyanogenMod.
so now i want to install CyanogenMod on Droid Ultra as well.
but before i step ahead and mess up with anything,
i just want to keep a backup file with my self to unbrick my droid ultra in case something goes wrong.
but there was a sbf file (firmware file) for Motorola Defy Plus which we can use with RSD Lite and restore our phone easily.
so my main question is-
Motorola Droid Ultra is a Verizon phone and if i flash latest verizon firmware file from here,
will it lock carrier network to Verizon or not?
if it locks, then is there any patch to unlock it?
and one more question,
as our device supports Moto X firmwares and roms,
can i flash the latest firmware file from here (Android 4.4.2, Blur_Version.164.55.2.ghost_verizon.Verizon.en.US) directly on our Droid Ultra?
will it work or brick?
*Sorry for my bad English.

If you have an unlocked bootloader you can flash the moto x firmware, just know that there are certain files that once you flash to 4.4.2, they cannot be downgraded back to 4.4.
As far as flashing the stock Droid Ultra firmware, I do not think that it will relock to the carrier. It is my understanding that the carrier lock is not based on the software but is unlocked on verizon's end.

thanks for your reply... i have downloaded the latest firmware but now can see that Verizon is already rolling out 4.4.4... so i will update it first...

I think your 'factory unlocked' phone is carrier unlocked, but the bootloader is still locked.
In that case, once you upgrade to 4.4.4, you won't be able to root since the vulnerability is patched.
So, you have to root before you upgrade to 4.4.4.
You can use a tool called House of Moto to downgrade to 19.5.3 without losing your data. Then you can root.
The site you are using for downloading FXZ is correct.

WTF! you mean to say that i was able to downgrade from (4.4 KK) 19.6.3 to 19.5.3? and can root it on a locked bootloader?

Sadly, yesterday i have updated it to 4.4.4 using OTA. now is it possible to flash 4.4 16.5.3 using that tool?

Now, it is not possible since the bootloader itself has got updated in 4.4.4. So, you cannot downgrade.

Damn!! When i was on 4.4, everyone told me that 4.4 is not rootable and now after upgrading to 4.4.4, you are telling me that 4.4 was rootable... :'(

If you have an Asia Xoom 3G Head to shell9.wordpress.com
There's a guide there that should help you out.
If your xoom is the wifi version then you can safely follow the US guides. There is no hardware difference on the wifi version. So there is nothing to worry about.

Get back the original software? JB 4.1.2

Hello guys,
I received my razr HD (925) today. It was already updated to 4.1.2.
Coming from my galaxy s2, where obtaining root is pretty easy I followed the first of your guides here - but failed at reading correctly:
I tried the "all in one tool" to get back to ICS to obtain root using the rootkeeper.
Something went wrong, the SW remained 4.1.2, but I had no radio signal any more (only verizon version I read lateron)
Now I managed to flash a france 4.1.1 s/w using RSD 6.1.4 - still having no root but can use it again, at least.
Is there any chance to get my (newer) original version back? At best rooted?

Maybe I should add, that it looks like my main problem is to find the up to date SW that was installed.....
Maybe I should send be back to my provider, get a new one and then do a dump / image and upload that BEFORE I "brick" it again =)
I would try to hard reset it and then try Matt's tool to go to back to 4.0.4 again.

[XT925] Downgrade to ICS stock rom ! Root any JB rom !
U can also reflash ur modem
Sent from my RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
Get the Droid Razr Utility
Then:
1. Use option 1 to go back to ICS
2. Go to settings - about phone and take the 6mb update.
3. Root using the utility
4. Install voodoo ota rootkeeper either from the utility or Google play
5. Open voodoo and protect root
6. Temporarily unroot.
7. Take the JB OTA
8 Open voodoo and restore root.
Use this method for XT925
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36345060
The extide method is for VERIZON PHONE ONLY XT926
@extide
that was what I was doing - and what was not working.
---
To the other guys:
THanks, I'm going to unlock the bootloader then. Unfortunately it looks like some things have been changed in the factory delivered 4.1.2 so that not even safestrap is working any more.
With a locked bootloader the revert to ICS is not working.
Why you don t want unlock the bootloader ?

There are two reasons right now:
- I'm from germany and here we have seperate restrictions for warranty and guarantee (one is forced by law, the other is provided by motorola).
Motorola is not doing to repair unlocked Razr HDs
- My phone is new and I'm not sure whether I'm going to keep the Razr HD - unlocked it might be a problem to give it back to my dealer during the "test month" he offered.
(I still have my Galaxy S2 and had LOTZ of fun with new custom roms, trying different combinations, getting all the newest stuff ported right after it has been leaked anywhere for any modell - and on the other hand, there is not even the source to get my retail software back because no one shared it)

[Q] How to Downgrade Droid Mini 4.4 to Rootable FW?

I've done a lot of reading and googling and the Droid Mini seems to be categorized with the Ultra. Anyhow, would the best option for downgrading to 4.2.2 from 4.4 to root my Droid Mini be flashing a stock firmware with Odin? (currently on 4.4 Blur_Version.19.6.3.obake_verizon.Verizon.en.US)
Also I found 2 different stock firmware for 4.2.2 (Blur_Version.12.7.7.obake_verizon.Verizon.en.US and Blur_Version.12.15.15.obake_verizon.Verizon.en.US) does it matter which one i flash?
Links to noob guides are appreciated

You are so far out there its kind of funny.
First Odin? That's a Samsung thing.
Second if you are on a locked boot loader you cannot downgrade to 4.2.2
Third, you can root 4.4 IIRC using the link below although I vaguely recall it being limited to build 19.5.3. You can FXZ to 19.5.3 from 19.6.3 with a locked boot loader though.

Sorry i have searched and odin was all i could seem to find as far as a program to flash FW, this is my first experience with rooting a phone, I've JTAG'd xbox 360's and jailbroken ps3's and ios devices but never anything with a phone.
So rooting on 4.4 is possible as long as I'm on 19.5.3, and I can get to 19.5.3 from 19.6.3 (how?)

No problem first download the 19.5.3 firmware here
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=4&file=799
Extract it then edit the XML file in notepad, not word. Find the line at the top that reads something to the effect of oemgetvar. Delete that, click save
then download RSD lite which is the odin equivalent for Motorola
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637338
Next install the drivers, this can be done by installing moto device manager
boot the phone into bootloader, connect to computer, open rsd, point to the extracted firmware file, select the XML file for flashing and flash it. Then when back on 19.5.3 you can run the root I linked above.

[Q] How to get lollipop?

Hi,
I have US purchased Moto Gs, have latest 'Motorola Update Services' installed and tried hundred times to check for update in Settings > About but I'm done waiting now, where can I get the latest version to flash and any guide?
Thanks
What is your model number? Need some basic info to help you out.
XT1032
I think I need Brazailian 5.0.2 ROM? I want to be on stock (lollipop recovery, lollipop bootloader, lollipop radio etc..) so I can recieve future updates. A simple guide would be helpful.

How do I know if mine is GPE or not?
Thanks
Where did you get the phone? Was it factory unlocked? What ROM is currently on the phone?
Ok got it. I purchased from Amazon so its not GPE.
The above mentioned guide is for completely stock? With stock bootloader, recovery, radio and everything? And will allow me to get OTA updates?
Thanks
I don't know about OTA updates since you'll be flashing a non-US ROM onto your US phone.
You should unlock your bootloader before proceeding so you can flash back if there is a problem.
This cross-flashing business can get quite complicated and you need to remember that any flashing of ROMs can result in a bricked phone.

Xt1541 ota

I've got a XT1541 8GB with LPI23.72-22 firmware Spain retail version. I've seen the retail firmware in the firmware's post but i haven't got the ota just yet. Has anyone with this device got the OTA? Is there any other way to install it? Downloading from motorla website and flashing maybe? Im on stock unrooted.
Also i would like to know if I stay on stock recovery and root the phone, will unrooting it before updating be enough to capture ota's without any problem? And then root again by temporarily boot into twrp?
Thanks for the help.
I have a different model but root won't stop you from downloading and capturing the OTA. I was able to capture the OTA even though I was rooted and updated while rooted. To be on the safe side, it would probably be best to unroot though. Before I rebooted after the OTA, I went into the cache and saved a copy of the OTA.

So as long as i keep stock recovery and I unroot before updating i wont have any truble right?
Is motorola sending the OTA or my carrier? Because i got the unlocked phone on amazon and my carrier is not selling phones or giving them with a contract.
Anyway i think im gonna go for cyanogenmod as soon as it gets official support.

Right, you shouldn't have any problems. Motorola will be sending out the update, not your carrier. You probably wouldn't have any trouble updating while rooted, but to be on the safe side it wouldn't hurt. You'll have to root again after the update anyway, so you may as well un-root before the update.
