With my rooted Galaxy note 2 running any of the AOSP ROMS, Google wallet tap and pay would not work, even using any of the KitKat AOSP's.
Since the opo runs cyanogenmod KitKat, does that mean Google wallet tap and pay won't work since it doesn't work on any of the cm ROMS installed from root?
Or has cm found a way?
I'd consider an opo if gw tap and pay could be made to work.

The OPO works just fine with Google Wallet.

Just like the topic says, I'm interested in what functionality is lost after rooting the Note 5. Like for example, I've heard that the ability to use Samsung Pay is essentially lost forever, even after reflashing a completely stock ROM. And after having a rooted S5 I noticed that the Private Mode feature was glitchy and stopped working sometimes after rooting. Is this the same for the Note 5? I'm interested in everyone's experiences with their Note5s and its features after rooting.
Samsung pay cuz of knox but being rooted i am on the moar rom. No sprint radio or sprint anything installed or running in back ground, i have a faster kernal?, also a longer lasting battery, and i installed other tweaks like make the phone ring louder...basically the option to install all these features like voice recording to any rom ur on. Being unrooted ur stuck with bloatware. With ur fingerprints and cc stored on phone, what you gonna do whrn its lost or stolen
Basically you will no longer be able to use Samsung Pay and Android Pay. There might be a few other things but that's the most of it.
There are a few other apps that check for root (like Netflix I think) but I think there are workarounds. Imo, rooting is worth it than nit rooting. I like my adblock and xposed modules.
I have a PIN on my phone. I have been using Tasker to unlock my phone when my bluetooth headset is connected, and it's worked well enough. I was wondering if there is a way to accomplish the same thing with my watch.
I am aware of SmartLock in Lollipop, but due to many issues with Lollipop on the Note 4, I am still running KitKat. I am able to accomplish the same thing with Tasker and my bluetooth headset because when it is on, it is connected. When I check my list of bluetooth devices on the phone, it just shows the watch as paired, not connected.
I'm guessing that it won't be possible without Lollipop, but thought that I'd ask anyway.
Thanks
I have a N910C rocking a Note 5 ported rom. Lollipop works like a charm there and Smart Lock is super useful. If you don't want to root your phone it's okay, since almost all of the models have already available the official update to Lollipop 5.1.1, which works worlds better than 5.0 and it still manages to be slightly better than 4.4.4 (at least that's what I think).
If you still don't want to update your phone, then I'm sorry, but I don't know any third app that has that functionality (don't fret though, I'm sure there must be at least one out there ).

I am coming from a US Verizon Note 4, and it's a special case.
It cannot be rooted, because Verizon won't allow it. No exploit has ever been found. I would love to be able to root it, but it's not possible. When 5.01 came out, it caused major problems with the Note 4, with major battery drain and apps crashing all over the place. A lot of us were able to ODIN back to 4.4.4. 5.1.1 came out for my phone this week, but I'm understandably nervous about going to it. I'm waiting for more reports to come in regarding whether the battery and crashing issues have been fixed.
I just did some reading and I found that I need to enable it in security settings on the phone. Now everything is back to normal.

Just go to 5.1.1. It's better than kitkat and lollipop 5.0
After two years and a half my loyal fellow Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 decided to pass away and I decided to get a Moto G 2015.
I really would like not to void my warranty (I had already risked with S3's rooting it exactly the day after I'd bought it ) so I chose I won't root it at the moment.
The day I bought it I upgraded to M 6.0 from L 5.0.1. Sadly enough I realised (as I already was supposed to know) there is no AOSP browser because Google wants me to use Chrome.
I've got nothing against Chrome but I simply don't like it. Too heavy and ram/battery-drinking. By the moment I've solved the issue by installing a Chromium-based browser but I am not satisfied.
Surfing on the internet I have found some stock browsers I was supposed to be able to install on my unrooted phone. No need to say none of them worked properly, I got FC or installation was denied.
Is there really no way to port the wonderful lightweight material AOSP browser as a simple apk to install?
Otherwise: no other stock browser ported (LG, Sony or pretty everything else)?
I have already tried HTC and Asus ones but I suddenly got FC so screw it.
Thank you so much
We're still on a Galaxy S4 and S5 via Verizon
I enjoyed having control over my own phone and loading custom ROMs onto my S4 until the bootloader Apocalypse update Verizon pushed out a few years back.
I've replaced both batteries once, but it looks like I'll need to do it again, and Verizon's basically abandoned these phones now so I think it's time to move on and Verizon can burn in hell.
Is there anything I need to know about the Pixel 2 or FI before I pull the trigger on this?
I realize replacing the battery in these phones isn't a trivial endeavor.
I'm currently doing fine with 16gb of space... So the 64gb model seems huge to me. How much is left after the OS? I just can't imaging needing 128gb. My wife however, seems to be attempting to store the entirety of Facebook and Snap chat locally so... yea.
I'd also like to be able to hide root from some processes so I can run the Outlook app, though I know the tool for that is still in beta.
Oh, and if anyone has any of those promo codes?
Replacing batteries is always tricky with the "new" smartphones and thus more expensive. But it's possible if you plan to use the device for as long as your current devices.
You can hide Root with Magisk. Perfectly working and easy to do. There's a dedicated section for Magisk on XDA.
For Project Fi, I cant help you because I'm from Europe.
Regarding storage: I can't imagine how to fill 64 GB or even 32 GB. But I know people who like to store movies, music and pictures on their phone. I've never used more than 25 GB on any phone.
I'd wait a few more months and get a pair of Pixel 3.
There is nothing really wrong with the Pixel 2 so far.
Having been on Project Fi from 2013 with Nexus 5x, Pixel 2, Pixel. With project Fi installed from Play Store in my experience the Non Google Gapps, Open Gapps, Slix X Gapps all have troubles. Yes permissions can be correctly done, but the dailer codes used by Stores app confirm that only Google based Dialer, Platform, Services will work as the stock Phone Project Fi operations. Appears in switching network providers something hangs. So unless a Custom Rom uses Google App's base in my experience Rom's are not worth using on Project Fi. I've noticed that usually 2 or more current Roms for both Pixel and Pixel 2 use Google Base apps and work fine with Project Fi. It is nice that when you wipe and restore new rom's MOST of the time the previous txt, mms are reinstalled with Google Backup if Messages folder is added too. Nice Feature when moving around various Roms.
I've been out of the custom ROM game for quite a while now. Looking to start to dabble again. Question are we able to run rooted devices and still take advantage of applications like Google pay via NFC? I thought I recall reading about some of the server side encryption pieces that Google put in to prevent NFC payments and Google pay from working if a round was rooted. Perhaps there are some work around that are new and I'm not aware of yet.
Any other audities in regard to running custom ROMs?
