Has anyone else experienced the phone when first turned on being bright only to have it flicker after about 5 seconds and get a bit more dim? That's my biggest complaint with this phone. I have found out last night that while I had no lights on in the house it was not happening. Tried it again this morning and same thing. Works fine. But I turned on the lights and it happens again. I have the display at 100% with no automatic brightness. I hope it's not a hardware issue and just software.

So when I'm on a call there's a red rapidly blinking LED light though its very dim. Anyone else notice this? Any mods?
It's the proximity sensor. When the phone is close to your face or turned upside down the screen turns off.
I had this happen last night, but I wasn't on a call at all. I just happened to see it (the room was dark so the dim LED was visible). It persisted for a while but by morning was gone. Battery wasn't low at that point (though it had been earlier in the day) so I was hoping there'd be more insight about it today. =)

For those who are facing this issue.
I was also facing the black screen of death issue from past 3 months.
The only way to avoid it was through rebooting the device.
And by searching web others recomended to replace the flex cable.
Solution:- guys now i am not facing this issue by keeping the brightness greater than 5/10 (>5)percent.
I have tested this persnally for 10 days and i have not faced black screen of death till then.
But when i reduce the brightness to 0% i start experiencing the black screen of death.
I dont know properly what incresing brightness does.
Permant fix can also be done by increasing the minimum brightness value. (I dont know that hiw to do). May be devs can help here.
Those who are facing black screen of death keep your minimum brightness at or above 10% that will fix it.

I got the same problem with my nexus 5 too. After lowering down brightness to below half somewhere, the phone screen shuts off but the phone is still on and if i blindly drop down the status bar and increase the brightness by assuming the slider there, the screen again turns on
One thing to note that my screen does not have any dead pixels or display problem at all because I tested it. Also when the screen turns off the task that was carried out on the phone still stays i mean that when i play game at night and lower the brightness, then the screen turns off but i can hear the sound of the game running.
I have tried many roms but the problem still remains.

Try changing the rom which has this issue fixed at around 10℅ brightness.
Bcoz above 50 ℅ is. Huge for battery drain.
I am currently on santosh m 7.1.1 15/12/16 build and i am not experiencing black screen at 10℅ brightness.
Since you play at night ( night modde will also help ).

I have tried Santosh ROM it's still there, but the thing is that this problem I am having was even on the latest stock ROM (till android 6.0.1 Dec).
I don't know why it happens.
So this has only happened twice, but twice is enough. For some reason while charging the phone, the help screen comes on, the screen is on full brightness and the flashlight/led is active. No one has touched the phone whilst charging and it only seems to happen occasionally. Anyone else having this strange issue?
sounds like a defective device or a bug in the system. I would reflash and test again
I've had my phone for 2 weeks. Yesterday I was outdoors and it was cloudy. I pulled my phone from my pocket and there was no display. Initially I believed it had turned off. I then realized it was on, but that the brightness was light, lighter than when on 0%. I could barely see the readout. I was able to go to brightness and bring it up so it was readable. I restarted and the problem appears to be gone. Anyone else observe this problem?

yep, if the high brightness mode has been enabled (by light sensor or custom software) since the June update.
I am on a custom rom which has february firmware.Not enabled HBM.And phone was water damaged 2 months ago.Can it be hardware damage?
I just had my phone returned from Google after being repaired for this issue and the green flickering has begun again.
More and more reports coming in.
Well that's fun... My screen is defective
Started noticing the other night that when I was on certain sites that I would get streaks down the screen. They moved with the text on the screen and it was worse with white backgrounds. Now when my screen goes on or off, the edges flash green...
