Need help with random reboots (kmsg included) - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
I've been getting random reboots on my phone and just went ahead to take the kmsg. I'm not really sure how to go from here so any help would be great. The Kmsg is attached (slightly lengthy). Thanks!

Yeah mine has exactly the same problem. I can tell you that another kernel doesn't work. I've tried both the AK and the franco kernel. None seem sto change anything.
Apart from that - sometimes my phone is unable to enable WiFi or mobile data after crashing, and it won't work until I reboot it again. Maybe I should try another radio - are there updated versions out there?
I'll keep you updated if anything happens. Until then - Who can help out?

Thanks for responding! I'm not sure if I should start flashing different modems but I'd like to wait until someone with more experience on this places some input. I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a software one.

Update: The modem/radio of the Oppo Find 7 possibly did the trick. Haven't had any reboots since a couple of hours.
Maybe it works for you.

Edit: The reboots are back - didn't fix

xbenbox your kmsg actually points to the modem... Try reflashing it using one from the following thread and see if you have any luck.

What ROM are you using? Yeah it points to the modem but your phone is having a kernel panic.
Have you tried other ROMs? Have you verified that the modem is the correct MD5 Hash?

Thanks for the help guys. I was going to flash the modems but wanted to make sure that it would be okay before I did so. To be honest I'm not sure if it's the correct md5 hash. This phone shipped to me with stock 33R and I ended up putting 25R on it. I didn't do any changes to the modem after that. I haven't tried other roms yet since I'm hoping to stay with cm. Also I thought that other roms tend to use the roms from cm as well.

I flashed the 33r modem and it still seems to be restarting every once in a while. The kmsg read exactly the same as the one I posted before. Any chance that it's not the modem?

I am having SAME situation. I have this phone for a week, and sod-s every day. Two days ago phone restarts and now in the loop of logo 1+. Same error, MODEM time out.
Tried ROMS: Mahdi ,CM11
Kernels: Franco r18, r19, stock from both..
Can not get out of the loop.. I have wiped all partitions, formated all of them, clean flash of ever rom... nothing.
And yes, tried all modems...

Updated to 33R with the same rebooting issues although the kmsg now reads differently. Dalvik and Cache were wiped as well and same issue still occurs.

Still need help - bumping with my newest kmsg.

I doubt anyone on XDA has the solution to this problem. I would suggest for all others to go to Jira Cyanogenmod under the issue labeled Bacon-213 for progress checks and uploading last_ksmgs. This may be a hardware issue as not a lot of people are reporting having this issue.

[Q] Diagnosing Random Crashes/Freezes

Hello android gurus/deities (too much?),
Just got my first smartphone, a Droid Charge. Great phone, especially for the price. The screen is freaking fantastic and of course Android is amazing as ever.
However, since first activating it, I seem to get random crashes. I can't replicate the problem, since it doesn't seem connected to anything visual. First time it happened when I decided to check out the camera, took a picture, and tried to view it. Other times have been the first time trying out netflix, first time sending a text. Seems to happen the first time I use some apps.
The crash basically consists of a short 5-10 second freeze followed by a reboot. Any ideas? Is this a hardware issue I need to have addressed or more likely a software issue that I just need to wait for updates to come along and fix it? Or is this a common occurence with Android and I just need to suck it up? lol
Edit: Has also happened 3 or 4 times while browsing the web, including this site...
charges hardware are pretty great for the price the software is a big issue for the charge whitch is why most of us myself included suggest rooting your device whitch literally a dummy could do using odin... i am running a stock based of a leak called infinity rom pretty amazing for a stockish rom for now so reboots are known at least for me but i really think the majority of the problem for this phone is the software gps loss signal going in and out as in data (this is a hit and miss) ..... hope this helped you iron things out...
Out of curiosity, what will rooting my device accomplish with respect to the reboots? Anything?
I rooted the device, then tried infinityROM but ran into so many problems I flashed back to the factory rom X(... Rooted again, but still get reboots, any ideas?
Where can I get a more solid kernel? From reading around it sounds like that "might" solve the reboots :\

Also depends what rom you are running.
If it keeps happening after you root and flash a new kernel (and maybe install a rom) upload a logcat to a filesharing place and hop on IRC to ask for help.

Thanks... once that site's back up I'll download a the kernel from there... The kernel on that page should work my Charge if it's currently the factory rom right?
Edit: Just to check, Imoseyon's kernel (listed here is the only available kernel aside from the factory kernel? I should try flashing this to see if it fixes my problem? Where can I get the factory kernel (just the kernel :\) if things go awry?
Edit2: Also found imnut's PBJT kernel here. I'm unaware of some of the terminologies (I've only messed with a couple Ubuntu/Fedora distros of linux), can this and any other kernel for the Charge work with Gingerbread (2.3.6)?

PBJ is a Froyo kernel. It will only work with Froyo.

Help!

After deleting everything off my microsd card my status bar is gone and the background is black. How can I fix this?
What ROM are you running?
ARHD 6.5.4
Common problem, download and flash the new LeeDroid Tweaks and it will be fixed. I had to do it myself.
will report back
Is it this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501952
Yup, 3.0. Works great.
While I am rebooting may I ask how will flashing this fix my problem?
It's explained in the ARHD thread, many user's been experiencing it, I didn't read exactly how but it has something to do with some system file I assume.
Everything is back! But the problem that started this whole fiasco still persists. My wifi is stuck on 'Turnin Wi-fi on' or it says error
Odd. Trying going back into recovery and fix permissions.
When I was on ARHD 6.5.0 everything was fine and then it started happening so I decided to try Ords sense 4.0 rom but the problem was still there so I flashed 6.5.4 and its still here.
Hmm I'm not sure what could be the problem. Fixing permission's did not work?
Sorry I am not familiar with fixing permissions.
It's simple. Just boot in recovery, select Tools and you should see the option to Fix Permissions, click that and let it do its thing, usually takes a couple minutes, then reboot.
Didn't work ):
Weird. Are you running the recommended firmware and radio for the ROM?
Yes I am. I checked the thread and it seems people have been having wifi bugs. It seems there is a new firmware but I am confused with all the numbers. I do have 3.32.401.5. Gonna be flashing new one!
Yeah I'd do the same. Or reflashing the same firmware, maybe that will solve the problem. Good luck!

[Q] - Ruined for all other ROMs?

So I have a little bit of a strange issue.
I had flashed the AOKP Milestone 5 on my TF, and although I managed to fix the CWM bootloop, it doesn't appear I'm able to install any other ROM.
Since I've flashed it, any other ROM I attempt to flash either fails to complete it's first boot (watched a few different ones try for hours yesterday) or wifi will not turn on. The wifi issue is also present in my backup from stock.
Perhaps for the ROMs that are booting for me there is a different kernel I may have better luck with? Thoughts, anyone?

What recovery are you using? might pay to try another (Recommended: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759452)
You may want to obtain a kernel compatible with the ROM you want to try and flash both the ROM and kernel at the same time. The wrong kernel could definitely cause both the booting problems and the wifi not turning on.
I think about a kernel problem too, go to your ROM thread and you'll see the best kernel to flash with it...

Q&A on wifi "error" - already solved

I'd like to get the feedback from XDA masters on this issue I had.
Here's the steps that led to the problem.
Flashed ROM(Dr No V2), Decide i didn't like it after a day, the wifi was orking.
Entered 4ext recovery did a full wipe.
Used restore to flash my previous fully functioning ROM (EnergyROM-RCMIX)
Rebooted.
After reboot received the message in settings>...>Wifi "error"
I went through a bunch of steps, lots of reboots.
Try restore of an earlier backup - no fix
Reflashed from Zip the original RCMIX ROM, and fastboot flashed boot.img - no fix
Went into recovery and factory reset only. - no fix
Restored the last working ROM (RCMIX) and just fastboot reflashed boot.img
Still not fixed
More reading tried rename of the wpa_supplicant file. nope
One more fastboot flash of boot.img --
Then... turned on "Airplane Mode" for a few minutes. After turning it off Wi-fi "error" was gone and was able to turn it on.
The error changed to "unable to scan for networks"
Rebooted
Went back in and renamed wpa_supplicant.conf 1 more time.
reboot
When I enable wifi this time it scanned and connected.
I left some steps out, but they were just repeats of the ones I listed.
My question after all that is what went wrong?
Lots of threads about the problem but solutions seem to vary.
Is there something in there that I did incorrectly?
Aren't the drivers for the hardware located in the boot.img (as it contains kernel)?
Is there a better way to do this?
trying to get better at this; Insights, advice, comments appreciated.
I do need to get familiar with logcat.
Clean flash a stock-ish ROM like Android Revolution HD. Is the problem still there?

Wifi seems to be stable now. Running the restored RCmix. Rebooted a couple times and no issues. I'm interested in gaining some insight into the source and solution of the problem. My next step was to run a stock RUU I have, but your suggesting something close to stock might have worked?
Why didn't a re-flash of the previously functioning ROM (RCmix, zip on sdcard & fastboot boot.img) fix the issue? I did full wipes each and every time. Even full wipes before doing Restores from recovery. Restore should be a straight forward process from recovery, right?
The problem started right after a restore, and I'm not sure what step it was that fixed it. The last thing was renaming the wpa_supplicant.conf file. I left out the part where my restored ROM got stuck in the boot animation. There was something going on with the boot loader. Re-flashing boot.img fixed it.
But the wifi...? Any thoughts.
I'm a little hesitant to flash another ROM for fear of losing wifi again. I use it a lot.

I already answered you...and also, why are you renaming wpa_supplicant.conf? Are you making any other changes?

Thanks, but your first comment offered a possible solution, and solutions are important, but as indicated in the title it had been solved. There aren't any comments on the questions I specifically asked. At the least, I was hoping that someone with greater experience could provide insight into the possible causes of loss of wifi (steps, incompatibility of ROM, freak thing, etc.) so I can avoid it in the future.
The renaming of wpa_supplicant.conf came from threads in the XDA forums where similar wifi problems had been encountered. It was a solution with zero risk.

If I made any other changes I would mention it. I can see that you may be the only one monitoring this forum, which is unfortunate. You exhibit a lot of patience, but unlike some of the questions posted, I do the research and read directions carefully. The reason I ask questions is to learn, not to have my hand held. And someone posting "ddpo" is a waist of bandwidth. If no one has any comments to my questions, we'll leave it at that.
Because stock is most stable, flashing a stock-ish ROM will reveal whether the problem is a hardware one or a software one. If the problem still exists on stock, your hardware is probably messed up. If the problem doesn't exist on stock, something is up with your ROM. That is why flashing stock is still relevant: for the first step in diagnosis. Other than that, you can look into getting S-Off and flashing an updated radio, but that's up to you.
And I already reported the "ddpo."

Zuk Z2 Corrupt Modem

Hi guys,
I wrote a thread over on zukfans.eu, basically I factory reset my phone on one of the stock roms and it has corrupted my modem, or destroyed my data in my CQN. The long and the short of it is that i have no service and the radio is off, i can't fix it, and no one is helping me over there so maybe someone here will know. How can i flash the modem to my phone, do i just do it in fastboot? Does anyone have a modem file? Can someone backup their CQN for me so i can see if that will fix it (instructions in the thread at zukfans.eu here)?
I've tried flashing stock roms in both QPST & MiFlash and also tried installing via twrp, no luck on any of it. I'm currently on the indian rom 2.0.111 ST with unlocked bootloader and TWRP. I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me what to do or point me in the right direction.
Cheers
it seems that there are so many people having the same problem.
My modem has been corrupted today on the original room mounted from bangggod, I had bought it 1 month ago.
As you did, I tried several other roms and also the QFIL solution without luck.
I have written a mail to zuk and to banggod asking for an explanation....
It looks like an hw problem.
Flashing modem, which one, updates?
Same here as sooooo many people. Done many things, nothing working yet. I am still hoping not hardware problem.
I see many posts about reflashing modem. Never sure which modem file to download though, and from where.
Also, not obvious to me (new at this) when I flash the ROM does it automatically flash a new modem file? Or does it see one is there and not flash it? I have tried Mokee and others, went back to locked stock 1.9 and now I am downloading official Nougat update and hoping it will flash/fix modem in process. Great phone otherwise. I am crushed.
(edit: I update to AICP instead, nice!, but still no working modem. I do get a switch to turn on radio in phone info though, but nothing. Looking like hardware indeed, but I am still hoping someone will find an answer)
