Cyanogenmod11 Snapshot M10 (happened in M09 too, M08 was fine)
Trying to play seeming any video with the S/W decoder (either videos that the H/W encoder can handle or 10-bit anime) results in rapid screen flickering once the OSD hides itself.
Here's a video to help demonstrate what's happening.
Let me know if should be posting about this somewhere else.

If you have enabled anything in Deceloper options in your device kindly turn of the developer options & Try Agsin

I haven't bothered to unlock the developer options menu on this installation.

I have just checked your video.
It's not looking like the flashing that can be enabled via developer options.
But, it's look like a brightness fluctuations. Do you have any application/settings that can conflict with mx?
Can you turn On the full screen from Settings 》Player 》Screen ?
Check it again. If the screen flickers even while OSD is on screen there might be some conflicts in brightness control.
But, I am not sure about the root cause.
It would be better if you can collect the log after video playback & upload here.
Note:
if don't know how to collect the log, There is a sticky thread with a simple instructions about collecting the mx player log.

I don't think I have anything that should conflict with MX.
Enabling full screen did cause the flicker to happen even with the OSD visible.

Enable Android 4.0 compatible mode from Settings 》Player and try again.

No change in behavior after that.

Try Open Settings 》Player
Enable Android 4.0 compatible mode.
This should work on most of the cases.
This issue happens when your rom has android layout system issues.

I had the same problem with my CM11 nightly S5. I don't recall how I solved it, it was either by enabling the subtitles or changing to H/W decoder. Can you try?
BTW, is that video released by Coalgirls? My problem was only with one of their releases.

The issue was with all HD video that I tried to play, however, the issue seems to be an isolated issue with CM stock rom, I've tried several roms since then to see if the issue was with my phone or the rom, and the all work( Sense, GPE, CM base roms)
I'll just stay away from CM stock rom, because I love this app, nothing works better than it does.

What ever the problem was, the October CM11 snapshot seems to have fixed it.

Ah yes of course Whenever ROMs get upgraded, if MX worked before but not after, it's usually something that the ROM maker did regarding the GPU controller. Glad to see it fixed itself!

When I start to open some of the videos I think MKV format, it always crash which means totally freeze/hang. In that situation I could not do anything not even switch off my phone. Its totally irritating.....
I select YUV to watch movies I think it sometimes because of this happened. But I try also with the same setting in VLC player and it doesnt have that problem with same movie file. Sorry for my bad English.!!!

In which decoder this happens? All three ?
Did you enable deinterlace?
If you haven't then,
1. Can you try after disabling hardware acceleration in Settings 》General.
2. If it's still not working try again after disable h/w audio track selectio selection
If nothing works can you clear the data, reinstall the app from playstore & try again

I use three of them. But I didn't check in which decoder it happen i just unselect only from color format i.e YUV. Sometimes it start working but when I try another downloaded movies the problem happened again in some movies.
Sorry, I cant find any setting like deinterlace.!!! Okay I'll with disabling hardware acceleration.

I try it with disabling hardware accelaration from GENERAL settings as well as disabling h/w audio track selection but the problem still exist..!!!
Its really irritating I always need to forcebly remove the battery in this situation....
Yes I,m sure its because of YUV. When I disable it it plays well. But my question is why its happen in this player where I can play very well with the same settings in VLC player.???

Settings > decoder > deinterlace, make sure that's disabled.
I know some devices have issues with YUV, but if the VLC app can play the video on your phone then... hmm. The issue still happens in SW mode?

I saw it, but I try it without disable (deinterlace), the movie play very fine. I want to ask how this deintelace is useful.
I just check it...yeah after disabling this feature video plays very well..and even disabling YUV also it works..I don't know which one really is responsible for that.

Deinterlacing in high resolution may lead to freeze. Else it might have some issue with YUV.
BTW, deinterlacing only works in SW mode.
Are you using SW decoder?
Have you ever tried that video in HW decoder?

I use all these settings...while playing I could switch to 3 different mood i.e H/W, H/W+, SW.
One thing, this happens only when I started to open and new movies. After playing some time (without enabling YUV first), I can play very well after that even if I enable YUV feature..

[Q] External SD Card access issue

After the last 2 updates, mx player cannot read / play my external sdcard videos. I am using samsung note 3. I tested playing internal storage videos and there was no problems, it worked properly. If I search for an external sdcard video and select it, it works, but when trying to open one of the external sdcard videos manually from the folder, mx player immediately chashed and a black window poped up requesting to send a bug report. I did send one but after the 1.7.35 update, it still was not fixed. Please help me, if there is a way to make mx player read my external sdcard videos properly. Or must it be fixed by the developer instead?

the problem might be with your phone.

I finally managed to play extsdcard files. It seems that i need to separate them into folders as my videos is too many. My total videos in my extsdcard is around 1900. I divided them into 3 files. :silly:

[Bug] Mx Player stuck at 0:00 - it can not play video

MX Player can not use, for an unknown reason, videos do not play and they are stuck at 00:00.. ... when i seeking time, the pictures of video is shown but can not play, Disabling H/W+ (Network) did not work. sorry, took me a while to get this done.
If anyone would be so kind to look at my log and see what problem I am facing. Videos just would not play and are always stuck at 00:00. I tried all sorts of combination with H/W+, H/W and S/W. Uninstalled and reinstalled did not work either.

I have the same problem too using a Unblock Tech Gen2 S800 (dolphin_fvd_p1-eng 4.4.2 KOT49H 20161109 test-keys)
It worked for months until the last two days. I then tried re-flashing the ROM for a clean slate. It worked for a few hours then stopped. I had to uninstall MX Player. I hope it can be fixed.

Here's two logs I made.
I was able to force it to play afterwards by using Background Play. But, it won't respect video aspect ratio and all videos are zoomed in no matter what I changed to.

Hello, I have a snapdragon 821 running the ARMv8-a architecture.
I am trying to play a 1080p video using MX player. MX player is using the ARMv7 NEON codec.
The video is garbled, full of rainbow colors and artifacts. See attached image. Sound is working. Video playback is smooth.
What is going on?
IS there another codec I should be using?

The video was encoded with the hvec or H265 video codec if that helps.

There is no need of separate codecs until or unless MX Player asks.
Kindly collect the bug report (help > bug report) immediately after reproducing the issue & share here.
With out logs it's very difficult to identify the actual issue.

Platinum XZ rev 2.0 Video playback (movies) stutters with EVERY rom??? HELP!!

I have serious problem. The phone works perfectly otherwise, except i cant playback movies. they all stutter. I mean i had Xperia X before with SD650, and every single movie works flawlessy smooth, its like grafic proccesor has trouble rendering video. I tried everything. Hardware acceleration, software, force Gpu rendering all.
I flashed stock rom Marshmallow and two other marshmallow roms, tried all Nougat versions too. Same thing everywhere. I used MX player, custom ac3 codec , Bs player, VLC, all programs, i know all, i watch movies forever. first time i have trouble with playback.
Is it software problem, do i have too wait for final Nougat update 7.1.1 or is it my unit defection. Anywone else has this problem?

It's not normal at all, if you properly flashed more roms and the problems are still the same then there could be some hardware issue, install Geekbench, run both CPU and then Compute and show me the results, compute is often good to understand if there is something going wrong in the background.

I cant believe it. I was in the store testing the mineral black version of sony XZ they have on the shelvs. And that device also has the same issuse. I didnt play smooth. I tested XA wich was there too and it played perfectly smooth and its way lower device in specs. POINT Being. Im testing yet another black version in another store tommorow.
And what my specs showibg above?

I simply refuse to belive that no one came acroos this playback issue. Worked fine and smooth on all previous low specs phones i had (last was Xperia x).
Its like no one is watching movies on phone. Playback skipping frames-stutters video. (maybe its not so in videos u record with camera, but this goes for all type of movies mkv, mp4, divx etc. with either mx player (or other best players outthere).
Not one single user had this issue?
I will test another XZ phone tommorow in another store wich im gonna, and if it will have same issue, i seriously doubt that ALL Xz phones are hardware broken , it would be too much coincidence for thoes three. Then it would surelly be software problem. But why Sony didnt repair this?
Its been like what - 4 updates already since stock.....? Im still waiting for the cooment on my benchmark i posted above...

The values from the benchmarks are completely fine, but I see you're still running MM, there may be something wrong with the regional MM you're running, update the phone to 7.0 and I believe there won't be any problem, I own two XZs, one rooted and one in factory settings+updated, none of them have ever lagged during a single task.

Have you tried running the phone in safe mode?
It sounds like a third-party app acting up, and it might be a third party app that comes with a certain region of the FW.
Also, does the playback behave the same reading from internal storage and SD card?
For example, I'm using a customized Greek FW and have no issues with video playback, even tried 4k videos, they run fine.
Reboot the phone into safe mode and see if the issue persists. If not, run it like that in safe mode for at least 2 hours, preferably even longer, and if the problem is still not there, then it's a third party issue.
I do disable a lot of stock apps after fresh FW flash and I barely use any aditional apps, so I can't confirm anything regarding to stock fresh FW with all preinstalled apps.
Keep in mind that running in safe mode will reset some of the UI and user settings to default, also when you revert back to normal mode, some apps might ask you to log in again.
I've had a similar issue with the Z3, it would lag and stutter and drain battery for no reason, ran it in safe mode and everything was great. Then I started removing third-party apps until I identified the one that was causing the issue (some sketchy camera app, it had processes running in the background like crazy).

I tested from SD card and from internal memory of course Yes.
I just tried safe mode again (also i disabled all other apps that i could) with MM213 and still playback stutters frames.
I was limited when using aps, i coudnt use mx player or anything to test, just ALBUM" program too play movies, and they still didnt played smooth. Album dosent support all divx,mkv and other formats anyway. There was one time that one movie did played smooth but that was only one time in album. I tried record 1080 and 4K too, it does play ok" still ocasionaly really small stutter every frames - but its surelly not the same as stuttering and skipping when playing a movie. (is this normal for camera videos?)

My god. Today i tested two more XZ models in two different stores front. Both runned Nougat 7.0 version 39.2.A.0.327 . The one Platinum was same as mine-bad stuttering playback, but the other black version in another store with exacly same version was working perfectly - playback and all was very smooth as it should be. So what now? Is it possible that i had bad version, im loading new zeland rom with same version number just another country to test it. Prolly wont make difference.
So this is resoults:
i tested 3 different XZ models in three stores. Two of them were buggs as mine, third one was good when it comes too playback. So this means its hardware problem and i should demand replacement?

Here is Atuntu resoults also. i just test it. main score seems ok. but what about other specs resoults. Can anyone cofirm if this is ok?

This is my score, on Greece Customized .442, nothing running in the background.
I don't know if this is within the margin of error.

5 of the units in 5 different stores have exacly same issue.I tested that oone again from yesterday that suppose to be ok, but it turns out today its not. Has same issuse. ITS highly unilikely that all came from broken manufactor series. Some were platin , some black from two different suppliers since thoes shops use different suppliers.
I cant believe no one has encountered this issue. Ok movies DO play, but its choppy playback - for some people maybe this is normal but its not. frames are simply not smooth.

o have xperia xz platinuim rev 2 and i watch alot of 2 hours long movies and i dont have this problem, i guess it is about luck D:

I'm sure if someone had the issue here they would tell you. I watched couple of movies on my phone an they play normal, 1080p.
Then after you wrote about your issue, I tried a few 4K samples, and they run smooth as butter. For example, this one http://4ksamples.com/honey-bees-96fps-in-4k-ultra-hd/ , you try it.
I seriously don't know what the issue might be.

I just had a similar issue - but having 10% battery and the phone got into Stamina mode. I have the stamina mode set to aggressive. This is why the phone shutters.

No Stamina here. I turned everything off. LTE, Stamina, X reality, everything. (also tried safe mode, but hard too test in safe mode, when u cant use third party apps wich have software too play different type of movie files.
s there any other test i can perform with numbers, wich i didnt already, and would show any hardware or software faults. Currently using 442, latest March update of nougat (tried older roms already too). I have strange feeling that this device is broken - but could it be? when ALL FIVE XZ,s i tested in five different shops in stores have same issue? ( any any other midrange phone different brands works flawlessy playback)?

Have you tried forcing GPU rendering in developer settings? Its old trick to smooth UI in devices with new/unoptimised systems. Let me know if it helped, because I don't have that issue on CE1 customization.

Does it happen with any video you play? Different recorded resoultions from the phone's own camera, all of the youtube video qualities, ripped movies... Try recording something in [email protected], upload it and I can try play it and see how it works, or some other video you've got issues with.

Forcegpu is the first thing i tried when accounter this playback issue and didnt make any diffdrence. ?
