This is frankly a very irritating issue. I bought the Moto G XT1033 dual sim edition from some random store online, and then updated it to 4.4.4 from 4.4.2. In both the versions, AdBlock, AdBlock Plus, or even manual editing of the hosts file does not work. I am running a rooted stock rom, so I don't think this is a rom bug. AdBlock works on my Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 which runs 4.3, so I am leaning towards the fact that it is a device or manufacturer specific issue. I am prepared to flash a new rom, if required , as I have already prepared a nandroid backup. What should I do ???
just to eliminate that your problem is related to AdBlock you also could try AdAway: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753
Since you tried modifying the host files yourself I wouldn't be too optimistic but I'd give it a try
I just tried AdAway, it says that the ads are being blocked, but no ad ever gets blocked. I have also tried to disable ads using Google Play Services, and that doesn't work too. So I think that the issue is independent of the application used. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I also tried to use AdBlock but the results were as usual, is there any other alternative? I'm on non-rooted moto g.
@Roger29 AdAway does not work on non rooted phones, whereas AdBlock is supposed to work on non rooted phones over Wi-Fi only, but the non-root method almost always does not work. You are better off using a proxy server or a VPN service such as Psiphon which will reduce the number of ads running on your phone. It is available on the Play Store completely free of charge. Or, as a last resort, switch on airplane mode while playing games/offline apps to disable in-app ads. Hope that helps !!! Can someone also help root users ?

You're rooted so, try AFWall+

Since you are rooted, how about a firewall such as AFWall+? It is a bit of a blunt weapon but at least it will stop apps connecting to download ads...

I was wondering if it's possible to modify system files (build.*) to let the system identify as unbranded and receive regular Motorola updates and Google Play access.
My tablet is TIM (Telecom Italia Operator) and has somehow Play Store locked. Many, many applications are marked as "incompatible" (don't know why), therefore i can't even find them on the market; i can, however, install (and smoothly run) them manually downloading the .apk.
For example, I wanted to change the launcher: the ONLY ONE showed in play store is Go Launcher HD. I cannot even accesss my SIM (Vodafone) operator Play Market zone, which is showed on my unbranded Xperia S.
So I reached the conclusion that branded firmware restricts store usage.
Is that possible?
P.S. I have MZ616 (32GB + 3G version)
maybe root and flash a custom rom? would this fix your problem??
It's probably not possible until someone gets a custom recovery or bootstrap for the xoom2/xyboard to be able to flash custom roms. It might be possible to modify build.prop, but because we are on honeycomb a lot of apps show as incompatible on the market.

Indeed there aren't custom roms for Xoom 2. My idea was to fake a "prior update" no-brand firmware to get an unbranded full update... if there is any.
I fear that's not possible though....
Hello, I read in xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xyboard-development/15625-recovery-8 that an user is doing some tests of recovery .... maybe someone could help him.
a proposito anche io ho un brand tim
Some improvements
Hello to all,
Searching every day the web and hoping to find new and useful informations.
For now i have change the governor to ONDEMAND with voltage control and it seems a new tablet.
No freezes no reboots and no lags.
I'm not fully convinced with the stock honeycomb launcher...seems heavy and laggy.
Is it possible that no one had optimized it?
What launcher do you all have?
and how's the default governor?

I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 model number GT-N8010 that I rooted, and upon discovering an app I use periodically would not work with it rooted decided to go back to stop. I have been unable though to find a proper stock ROM for my tablet, all the ones I find are all store versions (even on sammobile) and I can't even find one that's for Canada. I'm getting frustrated and upset because I use my tablet for work and this is seriously hindering me. ANY help would be much appreciated!!!

What do you mean with Store Versions? Why don't you just install the latest stock version you can find? I doesn't matter which country, I used several of them and I notice no difference (with the exception of some local apps).
If you use SuperSu, you can also easily unroot your device.
8010 no 3G so exact version should not matter .
Store as in branded ???

Hi, reading through the forums, it sounds like rooting a Note Pro 12.2 on Verizon is either very difficult, or impossible? I'm going to buy one of these for either VZW or AT&T to test for my team of 6 salespeople to use in the field and would need it to be rooted so we can use multi window on all apps. Would prefer VZW because I have most of my devices there now and use Message+ which is awesome for texting on all my devices. But if I have to go AT&T to root, I'll do that - I think this functionality is more important to us. I'd appreciate any input you have on this, and also if someone would be willing to walk me through the rooting process I'd be happy to compensate. Thanks, Scott

Rooting the Verizon model is very easy as long as it is on Android 4.4 (Android 5.1 was recently released for it and is not rootable)
The instructions here are what I used, they are very straightforward: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795630
The downside to the carrier models is that they have locked bootloaders.
So even though you can get root access you wont be able to install Roms or alternate recovery images and such, so you would be stuck on android 4.4.
You would be able to do everything you normally could do on a rooted 4.4 stock rom though.
I have the Verizon model (SM-P905V) and I love it, I currently have a T-mobile sim in it and it gets LTE with no issues.
if you want to be able to root, install a custom recovery and install roms as well as have mobile Broadband you would need the international LTE model (SM-P905) but they are increasingly hard to find for some reason.

Thanks for your response firefly6240, I appreciate it!
good day,
I was going through the apps installed on my phone and found com.tracker.t as a downloaded app. I searched here and on google play but cannot find any info on this. I'm sure I did not download it unless it is part of another app.
does anyone know what this app does and where it came from?
thanks in advance
Dear vega509;
Could you share the OS information and verdor (maker) ?
(eg. android 5.0 / 5.1 / 6.0 / ...)
Thanks.
thanks for the reply cpizza00,
android 5.02, Blu Studio 6HD stock build, non rooted
com.tracker.t shows in the downloaded apps, but not in the app drawer
Maybe you downloaded it from the internet somewhere ago. From the name, I'm afraid that it's an adware.
Are you able to uninstall it?

I heard my brother found it from the Verizon network a week ago.
(US celluar & LRA didn't happened)
Just found this thread via a Google search. Have the same app installed on my LG V20 (US unlocked), running 7.0 Nougat (on AT&T network). I also had a problem with having to disable the app "Mobile Services Manager" & also a few random games that somehow got installed on my phone after I put in my AT&T SIM card. Really really weird...
