Can I disable notification from "Android System“? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know for normal apps, I can just go into settings/apps/the particular app and then disselect the "show notifications". However this is not possible with the "Android System" as the option is greyed out. Any other way to do this?
Or better yet, can I disable a specific notification based on say keyword matching, regardless of which app produced it?
I am asking this becuase I got the t-mobile "login into network" notification from time to time and everytime I have to manually swipe it away. I was able to trace that the notification was generated by the "Android System“ thing.
BTW my N5 is rooted and I am using the Paranoid 4.6 beta 1 rom (but I don't think the rom matters..). I use the ART runtime so I cannot use the exposed framework I guess. I do have tasker installed..

Thank you but unfortunately I am using the ART run time and thus cannot install the exposed framework (I just added this information to my original post). I guess I will have to wait for the exposed team to release the ART version then..

Can't Use My Phone with CM11 For Developing

Hi to all, I wanto to use my CM11 nesus 5 for developing but I've run in a problem. I've activated developer mode on the phone but when I try to start my application from Eclipse I get the attached screen, and the button at the end of the window is disabled, so I can launch my app. other devices with stock android works. CM version is: 11-20140702-NIGHTLY-hammerhead
anyone have a solution?
Run another ROM? Dat simple, it isn't like all people use CM or even custom roms. IMO, you should be testing dev progress under stock Android.
Anyways... Can you connect to your device through ADB? Do you have the very latest version of the sdk?
I used Eclipse this weekend with the 08-18 nightly and my device was correctly recognized.
Try this:
• Reboot your phone
• Disable then enable usb debugging
• Close Eclipse, kill then relaunch adb server
• Do not use a 3.0 usb port
• Did u validate the warning pop up? ("Allow USB debugging?")

in case of a production app, of course but it's for educational purpose and the nexus 5 stock rom is pretty unusable in everyday life
sure, last version. I did not completly understand what do you mean with "connect to your device through ADB"

if you are developing apps for android, then cm would be a terrible rom to use. stock android and aosp android use the same base, the same thats in the aosp source. cm doesnt use it, cm bases on CAF. if you get apps working on cm, it doesnt mean that they will work on android. and of the user base, cm is a very small percentage. if i wanted to get an app out to as many people as possible, id use stock or aosp android.
and why do you say stock is unusable? its extremely usable, no issues with it, it runs great. maybe you were doing something wrong?

A small example: if you want to disable wifi on the stock, you have to: pull down the notification window, tap on the upper right corner to show the shortcuts, tap on wifi icon, it opens the wifi section of the settings, and then you can disable it. With cm I pull down and tap the wifi icon. I can also customize all the shortcut. however I think we are going off topic

Pull it down with two fingers, long press WiFi tile. Stock isn't as bad as you think, you just don't know how it works.

Favorite Xposed Plug-ins

Hi All,
I am very new to Xposed and I just finished installing V85. Thanks for the TuT!
If you could, would you list your favorite Plug-ins and why you like them? I would like very much to have a review'ish type list to measure a particular plug-in's popularity.
I figure if someone posts their favorite and we get a lot of likes or re-posts of the same plug-in then I can make a more informed decision on what I would like to use.
Thanks in advance!
-NJ
I use Boot Manager, Gravity Box, G4 Tweaksbox and GEL Settings. Be careful for conflicting tweaks, enable one at a time between reboots.
My go-to Xposed plugins are:
G4 Tweaksbox - so I can skip tracks by long-pressing the volume keys; also various theme tweaks, disabling low battery warnings, etc.
NotifyClean - originally so I could hide the WiFi Calling persistent notification (IPService), but now I no longer use it.
Secure Settings - I rely on Tasker for a lot of things, and this is required for special functions (like waking the screen).
Youtube AdAway - what ads?
Youtube Background Playback - I disable auto-update of the Youtube app so it stays in sync with this plugin
App Settings is nice if you like changing the DPI for certain apps. Amplify + Greenify is a nice battery saving combo that feature xposed modules.
App settings, One Tap YouTube module, YouTube background playback, YouTube adAway
Youtube AdAway and Youtube Background seems popular
Could anyone give me a link to the most recent xposed framework?

did you stop using NotifyClean because you no longer needed it or because it was causing issues? for me, I need this module, but it seems to be causing SystemUI crashes on MM and Xposed 85... contacted author in thread, but no response =(
Can anyone please recommend an xposed module for immersive mode on V10?

G4 tweaksbox will work to get rid of nav bar but will not help with status bar. Don't use gravity box, it won't work for immersive.

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried a few other things also and discovered that "immerse me" works fine on my phone. It was a surprise for me because the description says the module is for kitkat. Others can try it if they are looking for immersive mode (all apps) for marshmallow on V10.

I stopped using wifi calling, so I stopped needing NotifyClean. However, it appears I still have it installed while running MM and it hasn't caused any issues. I just re-enabled wifi calling and it hid the notification immediately without causing any problems. I'm running Xposed framework version 83 and one of the earlier versions of Eliminater74's MM rom.

thanks for the info! do you have fingerprint unlock enabled by any chance? that's my issue with NotifyClean... it keeps restarting SystemUI and I'd be alright with it if it didn't break fingerprint unlock.

I just set up a fingerprint, enabled a PIN lockscreen, and was able to unlock the screen with my fingerprint. Confirmed that it worked after a reboot. (Though the first time unlocking after rebooting gives me "Unable to use fingerprint," but is fine after that.)

if you're able to keep an eye on things and report back to let me know, that would be appreciated. for me NotifyClean and fingerprint unlock do work, however after some time without any reboots or anything out of the ordinary that I'm aware of my device locks the screen and won't accept fingerprint unlock. I know the phone hasn't rebooted on its own to cause this because I've literally put the phone down for less than 2 minutes only to have to enter the password to unlock. my phone is set to lock after 10 minutes... I've checked the Xposed logs to find nothing in there and only after I disable this module does this issue not happen again.

Softkeys have disappeared

I updated gravity box and installed Android N ify, after that I couldn't use my soft keys. I uninstalled both apps but nothing happened. I am using the latest ROM with ElementalX.

That's why you should always take a backup before you do/try things that can affect your operating system.
A possible solution is to uninstall xposed framework with the flashable uninstaller zip and dirty flashing the ROM you are running. Its possibly a setting you accedently enabled without knowing what you we're doing.

You're first post was on the 24th and you post again today. Have you really been going 5 days without softkeys?
First off, when you say you couldn't use your softkeys, are you saying they are visually their and tapping them does nothing. Or are they gone completely? GravityBox is the only module out of those two that can hide or even disable the softkeys. Did you turn them off in the app under the navigation bar options? There is also an expanded desktop mode in the "display tweaks."
Simply installing gravity box and N-ify shouldn't disable your softkeys as long as you are using everything right.

notifications

None of my notifications do the normal heads up display on this phone even for the apps that have all options turned on under notifications. The icon just shows in the top bar. How do I fix
You have to enable Banner for the notifications on which you want heads up like notifications. To do this follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Notification panel & status bar
Open Notification centre/manager
Select your app from the list.
Enable Banners for the app you selected.
ENJOY!!
I hope this helps you.
It is like previous Huawei devices with notifications working only for a few selected apps (FB,Twitter,Whatsapp) or they finally fixed the problem and now everyone gets up even without the app being in the background?

add those apps in the protected apps section under battery manager in settings
Then is confirmed how is like other older huawei devices and the app don't get a notification if isn't open in the background even with all permission given?
Notifications are working perfect in every Huawei. Just set them right.
Did you tried protecting the apps?
I've done every step to make apps notifications work, they only work if opened in the background all the time, for some motive apps like twitter or facebook are in a white list who make them enabled to get notifications even when closed but games or unknown apps aren't in it.
I never got a notification from a minor app when it was closed, in 2 years I sue my Honor 8.
Now I discovered is because Huawei put some bull**** battery managment program in the phone who totally kills everything but their apps and some of the most famous and never fixed it.
I was hoping for the most recent devices to have a fix, Emui 5 or something but seems like they haven't changed their policy.
Go in Settings/app/advanced/ignore battery optimisation and add your apps.
Come on guys.
I wrote that I've done every step, notifications simply don't work.

Try manually updating your device by following below steps, your data will get lost so take a backup before.
Download latest firmware of your device.
Extract zip file and put the UPDATE.APP in the root of your external sdcard.
Press all the three hardware keys (Vol UP + Vol DOWN + Power button) simultaneously.
The update process will start.
You'll have your device like out of the box.
I hope this helps you.

I think Honor is doing some tweaks to clean the background apps so that more RAM stays free, and the battery life gets longer.
If you were on Honor 7 I would have suggested DigiKernel v1.1 as I didn't have any issues of notification after flashing it.
I haven't touched the OS, no root, flash or mods, is clean...and doesn't work, I've heard of how Emui 5 should fix this bug but my device is out the list of the receivers.

Google Pay - Apps drawing over the screen stopping me adding a card

I'm on Havok Rom, and I've got magisk installed, and it passes all safety checks and is hidden from google pay. Google pay works fine until i go to confirm the card details, then i get a pop up saying "looks like another app is blocking access to the wallet, Turn off any apps that might be drawing over the screen and try again"
I've disabled all apps from Displaying over other apps in the settings, but this error keeps popping up.
Does anyone know solution to this?
Did you find a solution to this? I am on stock and have the same issue.
I don't get the same error message, but I can't use my credit card with Google Pay anymore... I get the error message "Couldn't finish setup to pay in stores. This phone can't be used to pay in stores. This may be because it is rooted or altered in some other way".
It is rooted. Of course it is.
I'm using a OnePlus 6 with the latest firmware. My Recovery or Kernel aren't modified. Google Pay is hidden in Magisk and passes the SafetyNet test.
What gives? Google increased it's root detection? Is it happening to someone else?
Thank you!

OK, I started thinking maybe this is something to do with the gesture area at the bottom of the screen, and I think I'm right as I have a solution that works (at least for me).
Go to Settings->Buttons & Gestures->Navigation Bar & Gestures
Under 'Choose Navigation Bar' select 'Back, Home, Recents'
Now go into 'Navigation Bar Customisation' and turn on 'Hide the navigation bar' - this will add an icon on the left of the nav bar allowing you to pin or unpin (autohide) it.
Now go back into the Google Pay app and start setting up your card. When you get to the point where the 'Continue' button is missing pin or unpin the navigation bar, depending on what state its in currently. The 'Continue' button will appear.
Doesn't work for me unfortunately, continue button has always been there but I can't click it in the confirming card details section due to the app drawing over the screen notification, and unfortunately removing the nav bar didn't change anything.

Had a similar issue. The only way I got it to work is go to settings: Apps -> Google Play Services ->Permissions -> Disable phone/telephone. Try again.
For me BLue light filter app was blocking the wallet to pay after recent update on wallet. By turning off filter app, wallet worked.
This is not working for me as well. Any possible fix? The fixes mentioned in the comments do not work for me. I have disabled drawing over apps for all apps
Possible solution
Make sure you arent using an app to dull your screen resolution. Turn it off in settings.
I don't know if this will work or not but I would suggest going through all of your apps yes I know it's probably a lot. Turning off the permission to draw over other apps one by one. Reboot your device and check to see if it's working

Try turning off smart pixels or any such thing
Try turning off battery saver. It worked for me.
Got the resolution
Just turn off the smart pixel if it's enabled
I found the solution guys. App notifications are the culprits here. You have to clear the notifications by dragging down the notification bar from top. It resolved the issue for me. Please try and comment.
The Problem I have also face, but I have resolved the issue by uninstalling the blue lite app, the screen will impact on the google pay and Irctc app
Sorry for posting in the wrong section. I am using Oneplus 5 with the crdroid pie based rom. For me the issue was fixed by turning off the smart pixels option in crdroid settings.
Developer options
The only thing that helped me was disabling developer options. I think Google Pay assumes that since the developer options are enable the device isn't safe.
Hope it helps.
(I have an ASUS Zenfone 4)
I had the same issue on android. Turned out it was the facebook messenger app. Force close it in app settings and should work
