My wife and I are thinking of upgrading our phones soon and I am wondering how much our phones are worth? I have seen those sites that offer $60... up to eBay saying $120 but thats without an unlocked bootloader or being rooted. I know the number of devices with unlocked bootloaders are getting slimmer and slimmer....so what do you think they are worth? I figured it might be worth more to an android enthusiest.
White 16gb
Rooted
Unlocked Bootloader
Good Condition
Thanks!
Or should I take the OTA and sell it like that? I have never sold a phone before:/
Crap I think I put this in the wrong thread.
Here's the swappa listings for VZW S3 models, both rooted and unrooted / unlocked bootloader and locked.

So reading the Beat Buy FAQ, they make it sound as if there are two different versions. A SIM locked one for $199 with two year contract from T-Mo and an unlocked one for $529. I believe this is misrepresentation but wanted to hear your thoughts.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
personally id get the T-Mobile version for $199.99 bc im pretty sure a unlock code method will come up somehow and if it doesnt, then u can just ask T-Mobile for the code and get it in a week or so.
Hi,
I dont know for sure -- but my guess is all the Nexus S phones are unlocked.
According to this thread, the Nexus One was unlocked with a contract:

I wouldn't take the Best Buy FAQ as gospel. For example one of the question is:
Are there two different versions of the Nexus S, locked and unlocked?
No, there is only one Nexus S. It is available locked with a 2-year T-Mobile contract or unlocked with no contract.

The answer is no, but then they go and say there is locked and an unlocked version. Did a 10 year old write this or what?
there are no locked nexus s devices just like there were no locked nexus one devices. Some are just sold with a contract.
I see in some videos that theres a T-Mobile tab in the Market giving T-Mobile recommended apps.
So is there 2 version? Will the Sim Free version have no T-mobile branding in it?
I'll start off by saying this is not a question regarding which phone but more so about what buying an unlocked phone gives/ doesn't give you.
In the past 6 years I have spent time with almost every U.S. carrier, even some twice, and purchased over 30 phones but for whatever reason have never purchased an unlocked phone or used one from anothee carrier other than the one I am on.
I am currently considering an unlocked Sensation or GS2 and was wondering..
How do OTA updated work with unlocked phones?
What issues and options from AT&T do I lose with an unlocked phone?
I assume you have no warranty even through the manufacture?
Any other downsides to using an unlocked phone?
Where are the best places to buy?
GS2 Specific questions
Is it confirmed that the AT&T version will have NFC?
Any solid information on a release date?
Thanks for any help!
Hey all, I'm thinking of getting a G2 and wanted to make sure that the newer versions of the bootloader can all be unlocked or downgraded. I found this thread but wasn't sure if it was up to date. I plan to buy on eBay so I have no clue what I'll actually end up with until I have it in my hands.
I didn't do my homework before buying my Galaxy S4 and have been stuck dealing with Samsung's halfassed inefficient and locked down software because of their un-unlockable bootloader for the last year or so. I really want to make sure my phone is actually mine this time.
The variant is GA00465-US and if I understand correctly the device approaches its EOL, with no way of installing custom ROMs to keep it up to date since it has a locked bootloader.
Anything else should I be aware of? Do I need a Verizon SIM for activation or updates? Does it come with any nonremovable bloatware?
I don't usually buy 2 year old models, but with the Pixel 3 costing less then my Note8 screen repair bill it will get the job done for a year or two.
Any help would be appreciated.
In some cases you can actually unlock the bootloader of these phones. Try to boot it up without a SIM card and then look for the OEM unlock option. If you're lucky, it'll be there and you can unlock the phone
Are there any missing bands in the unlocked version vs att variant?
Thinking which one to buy...
I know note 10 had some differences and I havent been following since.
Good question...I just purchased the unlocked 1TB version. Guess I'll know for sure when it gets here..
I have AT&T and have always bought AT&T phones from Samsung to be sure all the features work such as wifi calling which I need. I did some research and apparently unlocked Samsung phones now are fully functional on AT&T. I ordered an unlocked S22U today. It will be nice to lose all that AT&T bloat. They really load it up. I'm sure all the bands for AT&T are on the unlocked US device.

it wont. even if you buy the u.s. model from samsung it wont. they are bootloader locked. if you bought the at&t version from at&t you can still load the u1 software version on it to get rid of the at&t bloat. the only difference the u and u1 have is the u1 is sim unlocked. if you get from at&t you have to pay the phone off to get it sim unlocked. but as far as bootloader goes they are both locked.
We might see an option in the future where a paid service comes along that might enable bootloader unlock. I never understood why Samsung treats the U.S market in such a strict way while the rest of the world less so.
