first android phone, where are my photos syncing to? - Android General

So I transferred photos from my old phone to my new Android phone (galaxy s5) and I noticed I have 2 photo apps, gallery and photos. I also noticed that when in gallery it asks to sync to somewhere (SNS DATA MANAGEMENT - SYNC VIA WIFI ONLY). I went and turned off all syncing after I saw that.
My question is where are my photos going? They getting synced to Google+? I don't want my photos anywhere besides my phone. I checked my google + and didn't see any photos. But then what is this sync via wifi only all about then?

the auto backup feature does backup to google+ but they are private until you change the sharing option

And the auto backup feature is optional and, for me at least, defaulted to being disabled.

If you disable the Google Photo sync to remove Picasa albums, you loose Google+ upload photos function.
I have the same problem. I tried deleting some of the pictures straight from Picasa and now , where I deleted the photos I get blank spots in my phone's gallery . Also, as you stated disabling the sync seem not to work.
If somebody has found a solution we're waiting for an answer.

Already done it -.-
Go to manage apps, go down to gallery then clear cache
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Fine, but nothing changed.
I also tried delete data
Same problem here. I still haven't found a solution.

Use this one instead the original. First make backup of the original app, then push it with the ADB.
Can you please let us know what edits were made to this apk?

As long as you stopped Google photo sync, try clear cache in Google+ in setting will have picasa albums cleared.
I had this problem as well, after a bit of googling here's what I did and it worked for me (I was offline during this process!):
1. stop google photo sync in accounts & sync settings
2. go into the app drawer and drag the google+ app to the top where it says view app info
3. force stop it and clear data
4. do the same for the gallery app
after that I restarted the google+ app and restored my settings (keeping photo sync off when it asks you on startup of course) and the picassa albums were gone!
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I unselected the photosync from account and mounted as USB. Then when to android folder and then to Gallery 3D. Then I went to cache and deleted the files that had picasa in it and unmounted the phone. Then went to gallery from manage apps and deleted data and cache and voila ! =)
1. Make sure your "Google photos" option in "Accounts and Sync" is unchecked.
2. Go to Settings > apps > All Apps > Gallery. Now hit the "Clear data" button
3. Go to Settings > apps > All Apps > Google+. Now hit the "Clear data" button
4. Go to the Gallery app and hit the menu key and refresh.
5. Your albums won't go away immediately. Patience.
I got same problem, here my solution,
Remove that account (after sync all contents you want).
Disable Sync.
Add your account back.
Enable Sync and then fast disable Google-Photo sync in that account.

Cheers, worked a treat!
Or
simply observe Sync 'on', delete album from g+, re-sync, turn off sync.
Any solution which doesn't include turning off Google Photo synch?
For normal galleries, adding a .nomedia file in the directory would normaly do the trick.
Does someone know where the picasa pics are stored in the phone? (they're accessible offline too, right?)

PLEASE help - What is google photo sync under google account sync settings

Hi. I have been trying to figure this out for a long time. I even posted in the google support forums and got a bunch of bogus answers.
There is a sync option for google photos under settings>accounts>google. There is also a backup and sync option in the photos app itself. My understanding is that backup and sync in the photos app will sync my photos to the cloud, and any changes made will synchronize between my phone and the cloud. What does the google photo sync option do under account settings?
I have tested this extensively....I used my wife's phone to sign into my google account. I turned backup and sync on (in the photos app) on MY phone so a few pics would go to the cloud, and then made sure I shut it off on both phones. The pics appeared on my wifes phone under photos once they were in the cloud, even though I had backup and sync turned off on both phones in the google photos app. I also checked and made sure the sync option under google account sync was off. I then tried deleting a pic on my phone, and sure enough, it deleted it from my wifes phone. I found this odd so turned off ALL sync options, even app data, in my wife's phone and tried deleting another pic on my phone. Sure enough, it deleted on her phone. I also tried turning backup and sync on in the photos app on my phone, and still had ALL sync options off on my wifes phone. Her phone got the pics as soon as they went to the cloud.
Even more interesting: When I turn backup and sync on in the photos app, then go to the sync options under google account, there are TWO options - google photos, and google photos backup!? When backup and sync are on in the photos app, the switch for google photos backup under google account gets turned on, but the google photos switch remains off. This proves that this google photos sync switch is separate than the backup and sync in the photos application. BUT WHAT DOES IT DO and why are photos syncing to my wife's phone, even when I have ALL sync and backup options turned off???
I am so frustrated with google lately and the way they have over-complicated everything. I've rooted plenty of phones and am not a newbie to this stuff so I don't understand how the average person is expected to make sense of this craziness. They offer no support except the google support forum, and I got a bunch of answers there that I could quickly disprove were true.
Not sure if this will help you but it might be worth checking out. Good luck.
http://techcrunch.com/2015/07/13/ye...ll-sync-your-photos-after-you-delete-the-app/
http://www.androidcentral.com/stop-syncing-google-photos
As I understand it, switching on photo backup in Google Photos activates the backup service, but when you uninstall the app the backup permissions remain and the phone continues to send your photos to the cloud even though you probably (as I did...) think that by removing the app you stopped the backups. Er... no, you didn't. You have to use the Google Settings to stop it.
In my very humble opinion, a devious and underhand piece of trickery, even if Google didn't intend it as such.

Is there an app to SYNC photos (not just backup) only while charging & only Wi-Fi?

Is there an app to SYNC photos (not just backup) only while charging & only Wi-Fi?
Yesterday I did an incredibly stupid mistake. I was in recovery mode trying to wipe cache, when I almost accidentally dropped my phone and somehow tapped on delete everything twice while trying to save it from the fall, everything happened so quickly and suddenly I was on the "select language screen" and thinking "what the f did I just do". I had google photos backup off because I don't like how it acts and I lost ALL my pictures and videos, funny enough, I transferred everything from my S9+ to OP6 and everything was on both devices for a few days, this accident happened just 1 day after I did a factory reset on my S9+ to get it ready to sell it, since all my files were already "safe" on the OP6.
Soooo... my question is if there an app to sync camera photos and videos just like whatsapp or iCloud does?
I know google photos can upload all the pictures I take but it is missing the option of "backup only while charging" plus it just uploads ALL pictures taken with the phone (like, MEGA and dropbox).
Let's say I take 100 photos monthly but delete 70 during the month when cleaning my phone from useless temporary or blurred photos.
At the end of the year I would have 360 pictures on my phone storage but 1200 pictures on Google Photos, most of them useless. If I select all the 1200 and delete them from google photos, doing that would also delete the 360 on my phone storage.
I just want to use my phone normally and delete useless pictures on my phone gallery and eventually having the exact same photos on the cloud while syncing only overnight while charging and on Wi-Fi.
Alternatively, if there is no other app to do this. I think I can do this:
1) let everyhing upload to google photos using at least the option of Wi-Fi only, while it will drain my battery a bit, I don't take that many pictures a day.
2) Maybe once a month, move all my pictures on my phone gallery (i.e. 360) to a folder "camera_watheverothername", then delete all my pictures on google photos (i.e. 1200) but since they are not in the original folder, they won't be deleted on my device, just on google photos.
3) Move all my pictures 360 again to original camera folder
4) Will the 360 pictures be uploaded again to Google Photos when I move them back??
Another option could be just doing the "cleaning" from google photos instead of from native gallery but I wouldn't like to do that as I don't really like google photos app and how it asks for confirmation to delete each photo, it is already just moving them to the trash so asking confirmation to continue instead of an "undo" button is only a waste of time

Google Photos is smart enough to know when there are duplicates, unless the meta data has changed some how. (Like date the picture was taken, or location, etc...)
You can use the backup option in your OP6:
Settings
Advanced
OnePlus Switch
Uncheck everything except Photos and Videos
Upload the Backup folder to your PC/Laptop

In the comments section of the linked post provided by MickyFoley, someone said download the copy of Google Photos that still had the option, install it, select the option to back up only when charging, then update the app. Your setting for backingup while charging should persist through the update.
I know another workaround and no root is required. Just downgrade the app to a older version with that option, turn it on and Update the app, then the option is still there after the update.

Looked into it. Dropbox has that option. I have it installed but don't use much.
I use Dropbox and it has both of those options.
If anyone is having the same issue, I think this might do the trick:

I'll try the MEGA option since mega has 50 GB free and I'll report back

I just remembered; why not use BTSync, now called Resilio Sync.
3 years ago it was BTSync, and free. Looks like there might be a fee now, worth a look I guess...
Edit: Added screenshots of the app, showing it has camera backup option and looks like you can enable Battery Saver and have the phone only sync while it's above a certain percentage, up to 100%

regarding this, is there any way to pull the photos and videos from oneplus servers using a laptop or a non oneplus phone (without specifically restoring with Oneplus switch app, just pulling the files) ? My next phone most likely won't be a oneplus unless they do something great with the 6T but I'm still getting the S10 on march

It may be another option but since you say there might fee I'll stick with the MEGA AutoSync unless it stops working or starts draining battery but that app is doing exactly what I wanted I was able to add plenty of conditions of when to sync (even added some extra ones with tasker integration) and when I delete pictures on native gallery app, they are deleted from MEGA server on next synchronization
That way if I ever lose my phone or my data again, my folders on MEGA will be exactly as on my phone without a bunch of useless pictures that were previously deleted on the phone's gallery

I don't believe the backup is uploaded to their servers. It is stored locally in your phone and they recommend transferring the backup to your laptop/pc, as you lose data on the phone with flashing.

oh then it would be useless if I lose my phone or if everything is erased from recovery, isn't it?
I would also recommend syncing pics (and data) with a pc, except you really want to use cloud only. I tried many apps. Finally I found "SyncMe Wireless" on Play Store. It is functionally, easy to use, safe. As I have my OP6 rooted and am playing around with it incl. bricking sometimes, I´ve synced all my data inclusive twrp-nandroids. No software on pc is needed, just the app on your phone. You can chose the folders you want to be synced and so on - via wifi or usb, as you like, in one or both directions.. and so on. When you want to sync it´s one click, e.g. when coming home from business. Just my input.

[BUG] Google Photo wrong backup , Amazon photos backup doesn't work

I want to advice this 2 problem, with my mi note 10, already rised into this threads:
https://c.mi.com/thread-2541316-1-0.html
https://c.mi.com/thread-2727222-1-0.html

Google photo recognize as 0.7megapixel (960x480) photo taken with main camera, and it will backup photos with such this low resolution.
Amazon photos isn't simply able to complete a backup.
Really bad situation here....
I've already triggered mi support, what we can do?
No problem with Google Photos from my Note 10.

Yeah, no problem here either. All photos backed up in full size.
Some of my photos are backed up but others are flagged as 0.7 Mpixels. It's not related to our phone because I found the issue on Mi9T/9T Pro forums. It seems that moving the photos from one folder and back again to the original fixes the issue.
Same problem
Some photos back up fine, but some show erroneously as 0.7Mpix and don’t back up to Google photos. Those ones also erroneously show no GPS location.
Same problem. To correct it I have to clear all the data of Google Photos app and delete low res duplicates. It is really annoying
There is a workaround it (better than clearing the google photos)
the methods are:
1. Open the built-in Photo App. Create an album(ex. G-Backup Album) inside the built-in photo App. This will create a folder with the same name as the album.
2. Select all you photos and click "Add to" button below. Then select the "G-Backup Album" album and click on "Move" option. After this, all photos will be moved to "G-Backup Album" Album.
3. Open Google Photo App, add "G-Backup Album" folder to the list of backup folders in the Setting. Then you will see that all photos are being uploaded normally and the size are shown correctly.
Makesure u dont open the Google Photo apps.. before you do this methods
Hi Wing_Zero85 in my case something similar happens to my "mi note 10".
Neither the amazon photos app nor google photos automatically upload the photos to the cloud.
I have activated all the permissions, I have tried many things and nothing, they do not automatically upload photos to the cloud.
With google photos it doesn't bother me too much, but with amazon photos it does bother me.
For amazon photos to upload photos to the cloud, I have to manually open the app, because it doesn't automatically.
For the other apps, there are no problems, whatsapp, telegram ... they work well in the background, notifications arrive well .....
But what happens with the amazon photos app is very annoying and frustrating.
