qq-camera-daemon error in 4.4.4 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, just a day or back, I have started receiving the mm-qcamera-daemon bug again on my Nexus 5, updated to 4.4.4 (I updated it once it was out). The problem has been persisting and eats battery life like a hungry shark.
Is there any solution to fix this?

It's only supposed to be in use when you're using the camera, but sometimes it doesn't go away even when you're not using it. Usually a reboot makes it go away.

I have rebooted, removed Skype and Snapchat, cleared cache, and yet rebooted again.
Still doesn't work. The battery life declines as if it's the '08 recession stocks.

Contacted @GoogleNexus on twitter. Was asked to clear data and recheck processes again.
The bug still persists. :crying:

So after contacting @GoogleNexus on Twitter, they advised me to start the phone on safe mode.
It solved the problem once, but now it persists again.
Even in safe mode, the problem hasn't solved.
Any suggestions/advice?

It seems to be an issue only some people have lol. If you have root access, you can try moving camera to a user app.

mm-qcamera-daemon on 4.4.4

I had this on 4.4.2 but 4.4.3 fixed it. I'm on 4.4.4 now and have been since it came out, but all of a sudden last week, mm-qcamera-daemon came back and I'm not alone.
With L just around the corner, I doubt there will be any fix for this from Google, so what's the best way of finding out which app is keeping this service alive?
P.S. I have neither Skype, Instagram, nor Snapchat installed - and never have done - so it's not them.
Did you have a camera app running in the background? ie. minimized it without swiping it away.
Nah, nothing like that. I'll even get it when I boot my phone, open no apps at all, and charge to 100% before unplugging from the charger - this action seems to be the cause of the daemon, like some of the other users on that issue report are saying. Never mind, I guess I'll just wait it out until L.
I have never had this problem on my nexus 5 until today (I bought the Nexus 5 on day one)!
This process is draining all my battery!!
The only app I installed in the past week is "Google Opinion Rewards" which was installed 6 hours ago.
Please help if you find a solution
UPDATE 1: I just noticed, via CPU-Z, that all 4 cores are continuously active at high frequency and the phone is overheating
UPDATE 2: Problem is still there even after removing "Google Opinion Rewards"
Just reflash the stock firmware and see if it continues.
Best thing to do with any issue that a solution can't be found for easily. ?

the camera daemon is supposed to appear. its not supposed to stay around, draining battery. especially at 100%, you will see it, as the phone uses it a little bit, and you havent used the phone at all. it will show up. the question is, if you dont use the camera at all, and it appears in your battery stats, after a full cycle of use, how much battery does it take? chances are that by the end of your battery cycle, it wont even be in your battery stats.

I actually fixed it now by flashing the system image and restoring all my apps via Titanium Backup, but I swear I'd never even open Camera for it to occur, and I don't have any third party camera apps. It would constantly be active without opening any camera apps at all.
edit- also Google have restated that they're looking into this bug and have marked it urgent, so anyone else getting it - don't panic too much, it's most likely not a problem you've caused.
I suspect the Hangouts/Hangouts dialer. I updated the app few days ago (no other installs), today was the first time that I got this issue (got my Nexus in February). Also first time since updating I used the camera, followed by battery drain/ daemon/ "failed to connect camera" etc.
I think its because of android wear
With android wear u can access the camera, hence u will be seeing the camera drain for sure. i unpaired my watch for few days and i didnt have this problem till now
I had this problema today morning, my android version is 4.4.4, In my case I used yesterday the camera to attach a photo inside the facebook messenger, maybe this buggy app make this mess in my case.
I reboot and waiting for the results
Same here
Everything was ok from 4.4.2 till 4.4.4. But suddenly week ago discovered mm-qcamera-daemon issue, tried many things without success. I am using phone in safe mode (facepalm).
Waiting official Android L or fix from google.
I got the same issue now!
Started today, what the hell?
Some apps will keep the camera wakelocks going. Freeze anything that can possibly use the camera and see what happens.
Or just clean flash stock, and see if its OK. If so... Install a handful of apps per day.... Then if it goes nuts you know it's an app you've just installed.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=70755#c171
I think i had this fixed. Ihave a rooted nexus 5 stock rom. Installed greenify, pirchased the donate version and had the camera app greenified. No more mm-qcamera-daemon showing up on my battery stats. No more "cannot connect to camera" issues. (So far it's been 2days without it.
camera block app
i see this issue occurs when i use skype or any camera related app in my grand 2 4.4.2 / only way i keep the issue at bay is use camera block app.. which i keep it turned on when i am not really using the camera.
this seem to keep this daemon under control and not drain my battery .

[5.0]WiFi shows as on in battery settings always

Hello guys, out of all the bugs this is the one bothering me the most.
Battery settings show WiFi as on all the time no matter how i switch it off.
I have disabled all the settings like scanning always.
I flashed the factory image yesterday (not OTA) and waited till a full charge, now today even after a full charge its still the same.
Is this a common bug or just me??
UPDATE :Tested with a clean flash of the factory image and without any apps, the result was that the issue has been solved. It could probably be some app which isnt updated to work in 5.0 yet. (Probably Viber app)
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I didn't flash the image, just flashed it via multirom. I don't have that problem...If that happened to me I'd try to reflash to see if I could replicate the issue with no apps other than what comes with the image.
I just flash my ROM yesterday with the factory image too and now I'm facing the same problem.
Battery usage shows that Wi-Fi is always on even the phone is sleep.
Really want to know why... I think it really consumes the battery.
I flashed the factory image too. I have the same problem. WIFI is always on. Any idea?
I've got it, too. Clean flashed 2 times. Well, hopefully Google gets on it soon.
Same here. Clean install, no root, no tweaks.
I opened issue here https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=79326
Solution
had the same issue. what i found out was that it was not an android issue, the issue is with viber app(atleast in my case it was). to confirm it try booting to safe mode and check you battery stats. safe mode disables all 3rd party apps. if it works then reboot normally and uninstall viber.

I updated OTA and I have the same problem. Wifi always on, battery sucking. I don't have the viber app.
try booting to safe mode just to check if it was caused by any other 3rd party application

Well, turning WiFi off and rebooting "resolves" this issue too, but it's no solution at all, the "bug" is still present.

Right this could be the reason. I clean flashed the factory image once again and now its not there without any apps installed. Viber could be the reason.
And btw for those who doesnt know about "Scanning always available" feature, you have to disable "Scanning always available" option in Advanced WiFi settings to truly switch off WiFi when you disable it. Otherwise it will always be on even if the phone goes to sleep. This is an Android feature. I have shown it the pictures of the 1st post.
So regarding the OP, should install apps one by one and confirm who the culprit is.

there was no need to have clean flashed again, you could have booted in safe mode(press and hold power off option) which disables all 3rd party apps. you could have figured it there. anyways for other people with the same issue you could try this and to figure out which app causes it, reboot back to normal and try force stopping each app and check. thats what i did to figure it out. Viber was the cause of the issue for me as i mentioned earlier

Blu_p0010uu_v19_generic_5.1

Has anyone downloaded and installed the new wireless update? Not sure why they changed to the Google messenger. Especially since Allo is due out soon.

Installing now. Kind of a disappointing update, but at least we haven't been abandoned.
I didn't think Allo was going to do MMS/SMS, but I've seen conflicting reports.
It looks like the issues I had with background apps closing when clearing all apps has been fixed. I've got no apps running in the foreground yet can see Whatsapp, Fitbit, etc still running and I'm receiving notifications for them.

The issues with the background apps closing seems to have been fixed. Thank goodness. Now Tasker and pushover work when closed.
As for Allo, I haven't read anywhere that SMS and MMS are not supported. It does seem to suggest that end to end encryption is primary.

I downloaded it and now my phone won't start up properly. It goes into a loop where it says android is starting and it is optimizing apps and then restarts back to optimizing apps over and over. I contacted Blu customer service and they said to hard restart mt phone. It doesn't work and my phone still does the same thing.
Since the update, it change the sms native to Google messenger and worts off it there is a bug, no notification at all on every sms program.
Do you have a link for this update?

I just hard re-set the phone a couple of times in a row and let the phone do its thing, optimizing the apps for 3 hours straight. The phone started up by itself and worked after that. Hope this works for you.

Hold the power and up volume buttons for 10 seconds to re-set phone. A menu with options will come up, select using the volume up/down button. Select re-set phone option with the power button. I did it twice in a row.
turning wifi off
So when battery is around 20% the strangest thing happened, wifi just turns off when phone is locked, just when it´s locked. Anyone else having this issue?
Does anyone know where to get the v19? I had to perform a factory reset and it backed up to v16. When I do the update it now claims that my system is damaged.

I do, but it was never a problem before the update. It seems rebooting helps with this issue, and then it lasts for like 1 month and then happens again. And now battery lasts nothing! do you have this issue after the update?
Does anyone have a link to the update? My phone says system damaged when I try

Question: System crashing and rebooting since today

Hi all.
Is there a known issue with the latest "standard application updates" that may cause the system crashing and rebooting?
I dont know if there is such a thing like "event log" in android to help tracing the error im getting since today.
First time was while I was playing Mortal Kombat X Mobile, game went unresponsive, screen black, charge led was flashing strangely and very short, almost unrecognizable. Now this could perfectly happen just on the homescreen.
Occurs once in a while, Id say almost every 1-2 hours.
Have the latest stock rom , patched, rooted and some minor debloating. Havent touched the system for weeks, everything was perfectly fine, this is the first day it is not.
So if anyone can give me a hint on how to find whats wrong , that would be great.
Guess I'm not the only one! I've been having the same exact problem since yesterday too!

There is logcat. You're rooted, so it's fine. You can also pull logcat logs via adb. However these logs are cleared once the phone reboots.
I've been having heating issues, very fast battery drain and my camera went back to taking green pictures . It was beacause of updating magisk. I uninstalled it and reflashed the 14v and it is back to normal. I'd recommend seeing if that is the problem

I still have 14.5 installed while it tells me 15.3 is the latest.
No overheating (at least nothing that could be felt on the outside) , camera works as it should.
Did a shutdown and restart, device didnt crash over night, now after its been used for 30minutes, it crashed while reading the news within chrome....
Maybe some kind of Spectre/Meltdown countermeasure patch which affects stability?
Really cant need that as I use my phone for 24/7 support
Just found out that I didn't have the latest build. Was on 47.1.A.5.51 probably.....
Now on 47.1.A.8.49 , still rooted , restored almost everything what has been installed before, so far it has been crash-free since 1-2 hours. If it doesn't crash within the next 24hours , i'll put the simcard back.

play store stuck on downloading

Is this a known issue? Every thing I try to download from the playstore gets stuck on downloading no matter what connection I use.
One thing I noticed is that it works for a bit after a reboot which leads me to believe that the download Manager is at fault since that one stops working for most other apps too.
also with X Compact
I have the same problem with my German Xperia X Compact after the Oreo update. App downloads/updates a stuck in state 'Downloading' for a long time. But they eventually start downloading within an hour.
I tried to troubleshoot with these instructions but without success:
support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7513003
support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7512202
Yep have the same issue but my starts to work normally at random times
do all of these methods :
1. Clear cache & Clear data (google play store-google play service-download manager- download agent-play auto installs configuration)
2.try another network
3.try VPN
4.try hard reset for cleaning cache (hold power and volume Up until phone vibrates 3 times and begin to restart)
5.reset app preference in app info
6.last way (factory reset or flash with flashtool )
Reset helped
I did a factory reset with Xperia Companion. Now it works.
Clear cach "google services" it is important
I've got the same issue on my Moto Z Play, updates will show as 'Downloading...' in Google Play Store, and then either fail, or take hours to download.

No, just the "normal" Battery Saver feature of Android (the one that suggests turning on at 15% battery). As soon as I manually turned it on and off, Play Store downloads worked again (immediately).
