Hi, if you have any leather gloves, please do me a favor.
1) Plug your phone into a power source and see if your leather gloves control the screen without any issues at all.
2) Unplug your phone from power source and test the leather gloves again.
Let me know what your results are.
Thanks will be given to all who participate! :good:
Hi,
Strange question...
I tried with two type of gloves :
- Leather gloves (I think those are made from lamb skin) :
Power DISCONNECTED : Doesn't work at all
Power CONNECTED : Doesn't work at all
- Running gloves (NIKE RALLY RUN GLOVES) :
Power DISCONNECTED : Doesn't work most of times, but I was able to unlock the screen a few times
Power CONNECTED : Works sometimes. Seems to work better than disconnected, but maybe 25% success rate at best...
Hope this helps

Hi. Not sure if this has been covered before (did search the forum and also google but couldn't see anything about it). If you end up with an S710 / Vox that exhibits the following problem:
Press Power button - Green light illuminates for approx 1 sec then extinguishes, no boot
But you can still access the tri-colour bootloader using Power & Camera button.
Simply open then close the SIM door. And voila! All working again! This has been driving me nuts - I bought four phones off ebay - replaced their broken screens and all exhibited the same problem - wouldn't turn on. It appears HTC have a switch on the SIM card door such that the phone will power off if the door is opened whilst the phone is on. In the process of dismantling the phone, sometimes this switch mechanism doesn't work properly, preventing the phone from turning on.... Wiggling the SIM cover after re-assembly fixes it.
Sorry if this is going over old ground, but thought it might be of help to some people.
thankssssssssssssss

When reassembling the upper part of the device you must make sure that the SIM door actually fits to the switch correctly. Best is to have the door open when putting the parts together and then close the door.
I have taken apart and swapped LCD several times and NEVER had the problem you describe - but its true: the device won't boot when the SIM door is considered open.
Obviously this ONLY happens when someone has taken apart the device (either you or the previous owner) and is usually NOT a solution for those that "suddenly" see the LCD "dead" - which often is linked to the flex-cable connection between the two parts of the device.
man really thank you!

don't laugh, but i've been trying to solve this problem on 2 phones for the past 3 weeks... THANKS BUD, you're a life saver!
Awesome solution Sir!!
Hats off
Merci beaucoup!
Today i bought 1 Vox from the local flea market for 3 euros and by reading this thread managed to put him back to work.A real lifesavior!
Dear tweakers,
I have a difficult problem to solve. Namely, last week at a party some dumb women mentioned to spill her full beer glass "in" my pocket. Of course I always have my PHONE in my pocket. So I tried to clean it as much as I could, however now I have a big problem, and I hope you guys can help me find a solution.
The volume button does not function correctly anymore. It is kind of constantly pushing vol down, and if I try to push up it sometimes works, however most of the time it does not. Luckily it does not push down all the time, so I can still receive calls (Silent mode etc.)
My question to you is:
Is there any way in which I can solve the beer sticking issue (At least thats what I think it is) of my volume buttons? (Opening the device? howto? or putting some other stuff on the buttons, or releasing the buttons or something?)
Is there any way to turn of the volume buttons, so I can use the touch screen to alter the volume, so I can still use my phone?
How do I hard reset now? The vol up button does not work anymore. Any ideas?
If I start the device, and the vol down button is down, then it starts in bootloader menu. Can I disable this somehow?
Thanks for your answers in advance!
you most likely have to take your touch pro apart. it looks quite difficult but in fact it's very easy. you can download the disassembly guide here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3IOVUX7P
if you're afraid of doing this on your own and you don't know anyone else and if you're willing to ship the device to germany i would definetely help you
Thank you for your reply and link. This really helps a lot. I will try to seek it out. If I am not succesful, maybe I will take your generous offer of sending it to Germany
Hehe, one question more though. Even if I do get it to open, with what should I clean the buttons then?(What is the best way?) Spiritus or something? hehe..
i always use isopropyl alcohol (from the pharmacy) for cleaning such devices. just thoroughly rinse or flush the buttons with it and be sure they are dry before you put them back in. this shouldn't do any harm. at least i was succesful with a whole lot of other cellphones
Some people even say it does not hurt to put your phone in a bowl of water when it is turned off. Just make sure it is dry when you turn it on. Is this true?
And can beer solve in water, so my problem be solved? (Personally I do not believe this rumor because of the erosion thing)
you really shouldn't put your phone in water because water contains minerals which conduct electricity and forward corrosion. and because of its high surface tension it will stay under the chips. alcohol evaporates much faster, does not conduct electricity and will solve the fat and sugar much better.
Has this been solved? I have a similar issue, but with soap water...
Hi guys,
So... I work as a dog sledder in Canada. I had my Nexus 5 in my pocket (of my 'water proof' jacket) on a very wet day. I received a phone call so I took it out. The phone was wet and the touch screen unresponsive. The screen looked like it should when receiving a phone call, only very dark. I tried turning off the phone but the touch screen was unresponsive. Because the phone responded to the power button and the screen worked (but was darker than usual) AND the phone wasn't submerged in water, I decided not to open the phone and just put it in a bag of rice (hoping not have to void the warranty).
After 2 days I checked the phone and the screen showed a mixture of colored, vertical lines. So the situation was worse. I tried putting the phone on silica (+ hair dryer) but no results. I finally decided to open up the phone and clean the circuits with alcohol and a toothbrush. No results. I know I waited a long time...
Situation now is:
- Notification sounds work
- Incoming call sound used to work - not anymore
- Screen doesn't show the colored lines anymore
- Screen back light works
- Phone sometimes responds to volume buttons (plays sounds) but with a delay
- Phone sometimes responds to power button (back light) but with a delay
- PC recognizes phone through USB but I can't access storage because I can't unlock safety pattern
I fear for more damage than just the screen. LG gave me a repair quote for $150 (+ tax) which is basically the price for a new screen so I am really considering sending it in if there is nothing I can do.
I know that Google gives a one time free replacement Nexus 5 but that's only if you bought it on Google Play, which of course I didn't (that would make life too easy). Contacted the online shop I bought it from but not hoping on any response soon...
But since I need the phone for my work, I wonder if you guys have any other (quick) options I could try out?
Also, is there a way to bypass the safety pattern? USB debugging is not enabled so I guess using dba wont work (tried but it wouldn't recognize my device). Can't see anything on screen so connecting USB mouse is not an option (?).
I am getting pretty annoyed because I can hear text messages coming in but I can't read them. Any chance you guys know of a way to read them (without having to access the phone and install an app)? I put my SIM card in another phone but it wouldn't show my unread messages (really thought this would work)...
I know this is a lot of stuff but I love my Nexus so much, I want it fixed
Thanks in advance guys!

Water damaged Nexus 5s are a lost cause and not much you can do about it.

Try a wired headset. My s4 touch screen crapped out and with a wired headset I was at least able to answer calls. Factory reset will let you bypass pin screen but don't do it on a stock rom because the google setup wizard will screw u if u can't type or hit skip. Good luck
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
So I have been using nexus 5 from the start and a few months ago the phone started showing some weird signs.
It was shutting down every time I used the power button and if I tried to turn it on it would turn back off.
So I remapped the volume button as a power on and power off and even installed a custom ROM. It was all working perfectly , I was using volume button to turn on the screen. Sometimes I even used power button for screenshot and no problem.
But yesterday my phone just gave up one me.
It will go up to the google screen and then just stay there .
So I thought it was because of the aosp ROM so I managed to go into twrp recovery , wiped everything including system and flashed the stock image of marshmallow .
It did turn on and reached till the setup and page and then again turned off.
So now sometimes it does turn on goes to google screen and then shuts down.
I am able to go into bootloader mode by pressing volume down and power button .
But the damn phone won't go past google screen
Sometimes it does then it again turns off.
Does anyone knows what is happening?
Ive Been having same problem. Couldnt access factory reset Via recovery says only "No command".
You need to replace your power button it is a known problem for many N5 users

I did open up my phone and cleaned it but it didn't work.
Are u sure about that?
I read somewhere on reddit that because of not using the nexus charging cable sometimes the boot ic gets damaged. Can that be the case?
It's the switch. Very common problem, I recently bought a 5-pack of the switches and replaced the one on my wife's phone.
How did you clean it? Did you use a bit of spray solvent in it (there are YouTube videos on this). Cleaning with solvent also did not work for me.
If you don't have the tools + experience needed, DO NOT TRY TO REPLACE THE SWITCH YOURSELF! The switch is smaller than a grain of rice and you can damage the phone.
It took me three tries - one of them I dropped the switch and lost it, one I bodged the soldering and had to remove the new item. My soldering iron is not the greatest but at least it has temperature control and I have multiple tips for it. The ground plane of the board that the switch solders to wicks a lot of heat and that makes it hard to get the old one off, the tiny through holes are very hard to clear.
So I suggest that you will need someone who has experience and the correct tools for soldering surface mount components for this job.

Okay thanks . I will try finding a repair shop.
Good morning,
Following an accidental water dive of < 2min my Google Pixel 2 appears to be bricked. It was dried out for a day, then powered on. The phone loads to the screen shown below. I am unable to select "start", or any other action on this page through touch or hard buttons.
There is no loss of critical data considering a recent backup.
Is there anything I can try to revive the device?
Vol. Up + Vol. Down + Power Button brings me back to the screen pictured below.
Thank you,

Turn it off immediately. Get yourself a phone/tablet rescue desiccant kit and put your phone in the bag for at least a week. You can also use rice if you have it on hand, although it isn't as efficient at absorbing moisture and creates a small amount of dust.
I highly recommend these if you can find them:
The beads turn pink when they absorb moisture.
It is now drying, thank you for the product recommendation
Once the water is dried out, is there any recovery mode? A hard reset? What should be my plan of action to get out of this screen?
Thank you
For anyone interested, the GP2 died in a rescue kit. I get a red led indicator (top right) when i plug it in, but nothing show up on screen. Pressing and holding power + Vol+ + Vol- shows the red LED again, but still nothing on screen.
As for replacement, I would love to continue with the Pixel lineup for its naked optimized android. Unfortunately, I cannot get passed the reported connectivity issues since i'm always quite the distance from cell towers.
I like the S22 durability and camera, but the bloatware is overwhelming.
I like the One Plus 10 battery life/charging but the android auto not working well is a huge turn off. Ain't nobody got time for wires. And reported camera to be worse than the One Plus 9.
I'll probably try to keep using my older phone until the next gen hoping they will be more appealing.
Save yourself the trouble and don't go swimming without emptying your pockets.
Cheers
