As you may know, Google has remove App Ops on Android 4.4.2. This app helps you to bring it back
Root device only for now
What is App Ops
App Ops is an activity, within the Settings app, that allows users to enable or disable operations on a per-app basis. These operations cover many common scenarios identified by permissions (e.g., read contacts, write contacts, access location), though it is not a pure one-to-one mapping.
Operations blocked by App Ops are inaccessible by the affected app, though that may vary by device.

It's weird that this thread has no activity.. it's a proper mod tbh.

After clicking to "Install AppOps Root", the device reboots, but nothing seems to change. Starting the Installer again still shows the same message: "Click to install AppOps Root..."
If I click "Launch Stock App Ops", I see Settings that promptly closes.
I am rooted and running a 4.4.2 ROM.
What am I missing?

App is working great. But can you please change the Icon in the drawer? It is really hard to see with this dark grey color

Not for me.
I have run through installation twice and didn't see any errors.

I just got prompted to d/l new firmware for my note 3 today. and after hearing they took this out. I declined it! keeping an eye on this, hopefully there will be a way to bring this back for non rooted devices. as my phone is only 2 months old. and I wana wait 4-6 months to make sure its not faulty B4 I go rooting it. plus there arent enough stable ROMS for note 3 anyway. I like Wanam as its stock ish without bloat. so waiting for wanam!

Reboot after install
Im using CM11.0 and the phone reboots after I click "Install AppOps Root" but seems to work fine with the "Lauch Stock AppOps" option.

same for me. i can only run "Launch Stock AppOps", install method causes restart with no change. I can change permissions though, which is nice. (running codefirex ROM, android 4.3 on Oppo Find 5 - couldnt find app ops option in this ROM )

It only installs one apk in /system/priv-app/
If you are rooted and have titanium backup or other toolbox you can easily uninstall it (titanium can uninstall system apps); second easiest option is to use ES File Explorer or other root file manager; other ways include adb shell commands (mount / rm), and finally another method that actually doesn't require root is via custom recovery that has a builtin file manager like twrp does... you would mount /system and delete the apk from /system/priv-app

Thanks have titanium backup installed, will just use that if I want to uninstall, good to know for other root apps that I might use in the future

How does this compare to the likes of XPrivacy. It appears this completely denies the permission which would cause certain apps to crash vs providing random false data.

XPrivacy is way more powerful and allows you to revoke many more permissions, but App Ops although limited, works quite well. You cannot remove network access with it, but I removed location, contacts, vibrate, camera, from some apps, and none crashed so far. I've been using App Ops since it was introduced in Jelly Bean, and still do in KitKat.

I still get a quick reboot and nothing else.
On 4.4.2, rooted and have given the app SuperUser privileges.

If it works, you should see a new app named "App Ops [Root]" in your app drawer. Anyway, which is your ROM?

Change AppSwitcher softkey to Menu (Root Required)

CHANGING THE APP SWITCHER KEY TO SHORT PRESS MENU, LONG PRESS APP_SWITCHER
Step one ROOT, install a root browser, install an SQlite editor
1 using a root exploer app navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db open this in SQlite editor
2 select system, scroll down to APP_SWITCH_KEY_BEHAVIOR (should be around #171) and change from 0 to 1
3 exit ( depending on sqlite app of choice save if prompted)
4 Reboot and profit
*** Note this sticks after reboots obviously because we are not touching the /system so write protection is not an issue

did you follow OP to the letter?

thanks for the tip! on my at&t version the settings.db is located in /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/ folder. worked perfectly.

I did this using gravity box. But I preferred to have it long press for menu and leave it as short press recents. You can even set the long press duration too. I have back button as long press to kill current app and long press recents for menu. It's sweet. Most everything in gravity box works.

Assuming you meant /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db rather than /data/data/com.providers.settings/databases/settings.db... i cant open the DB to edit it. tried two different sql editors. Any ideas?

yep im rooted. checked permissions on the db and everything. it just says error opening DB when i open in sql editor

Have u tried to open any db in /data with sq yet?
You'll need to trouble shoot that issue first

Worked like a charm! I love this functionality..seems stupid not to have it this way from the start by Verizon/HTC.
Looks like there's a few things to tinker with in the system part of that database

Nice touch. Working great here. Thinking of poking around and seeing what other kind of trouble I can get into.

Man...mine stopped working again and when I look in the editor, it is still set at 1. All I get are recents when I press the button and nothing else.

This is fantastic. I recommend this should be a sticky.

Anyone know if it's possible to change the size of the navigation buttons? It's so small for a giant screen like that what has in this phone.

Thanks! I'm trying that now. it does seem to have a keyboard issue but I'll see how it goes...

This trick doesn't work anymore on MHA-L29C185B182.
To apply the settings temporarily, the original Huawei Home launcher must be used, and after reboot the phone , navigation bar reapers.
Did you find any alternatives?

Hello everyone,i was wondering if there is anyway to edit the build.prop to enable the Hidden settings?afaik only MHA-AL00C00 habe the ability to hide the navigation bar.

You can try to activate feature a retractable navigation. Need full ROOT
Method:
Using RootExplorer go to System and keep a copy of the build.prop. If does not help, restore stock recovery. Then open the build. prop in a text editor and find the following line ro.config.hw_navigationbar=false(change to true)
If such lines do not exist you just need to enter
ro.config.hw_navigationbar=true
Put "permission 0644 and reboot

edit- done but Didn't have any kind of settings after edit n reboot

None of the usual methods work so far. I too would love a way to disable them as I prefer to just use LMT pie controls with no nav bar.

And if make changes here system>vendor>build.prop
Using RootExplorer go to System and keep a copy of the build.prop.
Then open the build. prop in a text editor and find the following line ro.config.hw_navigationbar=false(change to true)
If such lines do not exist you just need to enter

Can anyone confirm if this actually works? When I tried editing the build.prop previously it glitched the screen out and I had to wipe. Have you done this and successfully disabled your navigation bar?

In chinese locations AL00C00 this is the default

i have done this and after reboot there is still no option for me to hide the navi bar

That removes the Navbar but unfortunately LMT or any similar apps don't work when swiping from up the bottom of the screen, only the sides work.

That's not working unfortunately, not on my mate 8 at least even though I have EMUI 5.0

[Guide] Magisk Modules Disabler for booting into Magisk core-only Mode

Tools needed: boot.img extractor. I recommend the one created by osm0sis from this thread:

The first method was developed by osm0sis and removes magisk and all modules.
1. Unpack magisk_patched.img
2. Unzip overlay.dremove1.zip and place overlay.d folder in ramdisk folder.
3. Repack IMG
4. fastboot boot image-new.img created by repacking img
This method is an offshoot of osm0sis version but boots core-only mode. Afterwards, remove the .disable-magisk file from the /cache folder for modules to work. Dot files are hidden files so if your root explorer can't see hidden files, run the "Remove disable_magisk" bat file in ADB.
1. Same as above but use the overlay.dcoreonly1.zip
For both methods you must be rooted for it to work. These are not cure all's for all bootloops.

Here is a fastboot bootable image to boot you into Magisk core-only mode, in case you bootloop due to flashing a bad module, in fastboot:
fastboot boot image-newpixel4xl.img
You will boot with root but modules disabled. After you remove the offending module you will need to go to /cache folder and delete the .disable_magisk file before your modules will work.
fastboot boot image-newpixel4xlRemove.img
This one should remove magisk and all modules, then reboot and magisk should reinstall itself (ask to install necessary binaries). This is what osm0sis uses to recover from failed flashes. See this post:

Thanks for this, I was able to boot back into the OS. However, I had to do a complete uninstall of magisk to get rid of the bootloop.

Mine have to do with my mods when I try new things, so usually SystemUIGoogle.apk. I've found that just deleting the apk itself from the modules and leaving the folders in place works best.

I am very grateful that you put this together because I tried xposed and it didn't work and I was in an endless boot and I was able to grab this image and I came up right away. I don't know whether I'll try doing it again or not. I sure would like gravity box on the 4XL.

I would like to be able to modify the quick settings to take away the text and allow the number of columns and rows to be set.
I'd like long press on volume to switch tracks.
I'd like to relocate my clock to center.
Have it say <smallcaps>Fri Oct 25</smallcaps> 4:35 <smallcaps>pm</smallcaps>
Control brightness with the status bar
Add more items to the power off menu (bootloader)
Expandable volume menu.

Has anyone been successful with exposed yet?

I would like that very much. I'd much rather not use xposed. Every time I have it has been a little flaky. Do know though that I tried the center clock mod you already made and it wasn't working for me.
Perhaps because I'm on the .C4 release or because I'm using Nova?

These are the modules that I have installed, are there any that look suspect? I'll try it again just to see if it was something on my side earlier.

I did some more troubleshooting and the clock mod does work now. But only sort of. It doesn't work with Nova set as the default launcher and gesture navigation. It disabled the home action as far as I can tell.

okay I think I figured it out. It had to do with the navigation gestures hiding the nav bars. Unless it's set to full Iimmersive mode then it somehow conflicts with the gestures and the launcher. Oddly this only happens with the clock mode enabled and not when it's not.

okay I think I figured it out. It had to do with the navigation gestures hiding the nav bars. Unless it's set to full Iimmersive mode then it somehow conflicts with the gestures and the launcher. Oddly this only happens with the clock mode enabled and not when it's not.

okay. I just changed the navigation bar to be visible since it's so unobtrusive in the gesture nav.
I also set up per app immersive, which more than makes up for the lost real estate.
Thanks for helping me sort it out,and even more so for the work you do on the mods. I've had a pixel since they came out, and I really like the stuff you did for my 2 xl and 3 xl.
Look forward to 2hat you do for the 4 xl ?.

Also single app immersive makes it so the nav bar doesn't show in an immerse app anyway.
