[Q] So discouraged attempting M8 root - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I have tried for 4 hours using Weaksauce,SuperSu, then Sunshine then back to the other 2 to get M8 to root and s-off.
Have read every link I could find. I just don't know what I am doing wrong.
Weaksauce says rooted but then SuperSu says it cannot update the binaries.
So I go and try to use SUnshine after verifying weaksauce again but get Parser error Every time.
Yes I know it is probably right in front of my nose and I did or missed something stupid but right now I just wanna cry.:crying:
Can someone walk me through, step-by-baby-step on what to do or what I am doing wrong or missing.
Help please.

Edit: I probably should've started with asking if you were able to S-OFF lol if you were successful then..
SuperSu will not update binaries if you root with weaksauce. Something to do with the read/write so after running weaksauce download root checker to see if you are, it can take something like a minute sometimes but you should get a toast notification. Also weaksauce will not work on 4.4.3 so that's another thing to keep in mind.
Or you can just get TWRP or CWM recovery and flash SuperSU. You can essentially start way down past step 13 under "Recovery rooting" and start from step 5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708628

Since you got weaksauce to root have you tried firewater to soff?

Firewater only works on some devices. The passing error for sunshine could be a bad download. Try a different browser. There is no need to open SU. Try the firewater and adb method to achieve s-off and bootloader unlock. If your comfortable with a few adb commands.

I have version 4.4.2.
And have not tried firewater yet but will do so later and see if that does the trick.
Thanks everyone for helping.
I'll post back what happens.

Stop by the SunShine support chat, http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=sunshine-support, and I will ensure you are rooted and ready to go. Will take no more than 5 minutes.
If you want to do it by yourself,
uninstall weaksauce, uninstall supersu, run sunshine to completion, then flash recovery, and then flash supersu.
If you don't want a custom recovery, again stop by support and I'll give you another app that will install su without using recovery.

so after staying up till 2 Friday I was ready to give up. Deduced to try Sunshine since I couldn't get anything else to work, I uninstalled everything, opened a different browser, downloaded & paid Sunshine, and oila! Rooted???
Thank you everyone for the help. Jcase......... much appreciation to you for your work.
I do have one question about a symbol that showed after installing SuperSu/superuser. The phone powered off then an icon of a phone with a red triangle with an exclamation point appeared for a minute. Phone seemed to shutoff again then booted normally. What was that?

Thats stock recovery, hold vol up and press power to see the menu.
I suggest flashing TWRP or another proper custom recovery

thought I had replied earlier but guess I missed the send button.
does it matter which recovery is used? one better than another?

Black screen after freeazing in TBu
So my next issue is I froze something in TBu pro and now have a black screen. I can access the quick settings from the upper corner and can see recent apps. But cannot use the back or home button and homescreens are black.
Can anyone help? What did I freeze that caused thi and how do I reverse the problem if I cannot get back into TBu pro?
I am afraid to restart the phone.
I can text using icon from lock screen, and can access apps from the recent app listing but TBu, camera, and tapatalk show black.
What about a soft reset with power+vol. buttons? Or am I hosed?

What "something" did you freeze? Do you have a recent nandroid back up?

I know I responded to this last night but it isn't showing here.
anyway, No nandroid backup.
I Stupidly did not do any backup other than Titanium, once.
Was so impatient I did not wait for a reply to my question about which was better: TWRP or
CWM and did not run Nandroid even though the pretty little icon is sitting right next to TBu icon
in drawer. ??
Yes I know how incredibly stupid this was. And will be kicking myself for this one for a long time.
Before screen went black and back&home button stopped working I froze Facebook for HTC one,
Blink feed, some My Verizon something, and the very last item on the listing that had odd characters
and the word icon.
Without the backup is there anyway to fix this or get back into TBu? What will happen if I try to reboot into recovery?

Did you install a home screen launcher from the play store? Blink feed is the stock launcher so it sounds like that may be your problem. Have someone text you the play store link to a launcher like the Google Now Launcher. Click on the link and you should be able to install the launcher and then you be fine.
Then after you get everything back to working order MAKE A BACK UP! Make sure you keep your back ups up to date! The number 1 rule is make a backup before you do anything.

Will try that, thanks for suggestion.:fingers-crossed:
And I solemnly swear I will ALWAYS create&run backup Before doing anything ever again.

LoL. Report back if it works.

Thank YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It totally worked.
I will now create and run backup like I should have done before!
After I run nandroid bu, which is better TWRP or CWM? Does it matter or is it personal preference?

Good to hear! If you don't mind push the little "thanks" button on a couple on my posts.(I'm trying to win the internet! LoL)
It is probably personal preference but I feel TWRP has a better UI.

You could also try PhilzTouch it is CM based but all touch like TWRP. I do however agree TWRP UI is much nicer.

I would like to try TWRP but after installing Goomgr it won't install Open recovery script.

[Q] Problems with Oneclick root?!

Hi,
I tried doing the Oneclick root with my Epic that is running 2.1 Eclair. When I installed Titanium and busybox it said phone is rooted. BUT when I start the phone in Manual mode to install update it only has 4 options:
Reboot
Install update
Wipe data
Wipe Cache
When I scroll down and select Install update it starts the process and then says e.signature verification failed update aborted. Is there something I am not doing right? I tried to unroot and reroot the phone but still get the same thing.
When I try the Root process with Oneclick Software for Samsung Galaxy One Click root it says the phone will restart and to select reinstall packages but I do not have that option. It still has the options shown above.
I know when I did my Hero and Evo I could get root and install Roms with no problems.
Can someone help please.
From reading you just need to install clockwork and then install roms and stuff. The kernels include a root, so install clockwork and install the rom I have in my signature. It already includes a kernel so that helps by one less thing you have to do. The one in my signature I have had no issues at all.
I installed rom manager (which is clockwork, right?) and tried to install a rom that way but when it reboots it goes to the same screen and gives the same message.

How are you rebooting into recovery? It sounds like you're hitting the stock recovery. Shut the phone down entirely and hold Vol -, Camera, and power. Keep holding until after the Samsung logo goes away.
Does this bring you more options?
If you still get nothing, try this instead
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808103
Nope.... Same options. I will read the link you provided.
Also, Busybox says that my phone is rooted then I click install and it says I do not have nand unlocked. Maybe this is the problem?

I might be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure getting nand-unlocked is a part of the rooting process. Perhaps the root didn't work entirely for you, I had a lot of problems using the 1 click root with my first epic because of timing, I had to open the batch file and replace the ping 127etc (the delays) with a pause command because the phone took too long to respond and the second half of the rooting process would fail. Try the link I posted, it worked out well on my first phone.
Thanks....So far I have removed the Oneclick root from it and now it says the phone is not rooted. My next step is to root again... Hope it works.
Worked great! Thank you!!!

[Q] Can't find SuperSU zipfile to complete ROOT

Hey,
I've almost rooted my Nexus 5, it rebooted into Android, the notification bar said to install SuperSU tap here. I'm then taken to a page with two options. First one is to use Google Play to UPDATE SuperSU, tried this but Google Play won't open. So I tapped TWRP, which says Download complete, i hit continue, then phone reboots into TWRP, i tap install..... but then i cant find the downloaded zip anywhere??
I've tried copying and pasting the zip from my PC but it just doesn't seem to be doing anything?
Am i doing something wrong? Please help? I can't go back to my old SGS2 as it wont take the micro sim

Thanks for the reply Peachpuff,
I've done that, and it boots Android, but Camera fails just after boot, Google Play fails after boot, and I can't make or receive any calls?
Wish I'd left it as it was, but the benefits of rooting were too hard to resist fiddling!!

[Q] I knew this day would come...Son's TF300 won't boot

I knew this day would come, I've traded PC trouble shooting for tablet troubleshooting. My son's tf300 gets to the screen where circles/dots go round and round and never gets any further. I am trying to learn everything I can and try everything I can before doing the wipe and starting over...as he has pictures and videos he'd like to save, and of course the all important saved game/app data...LOL. Anyway I'm new to tablets relatively speaking, but I've tried the volume down, and power button for doing a cold boot, same result. I've tried going to the recovery option just to see what that was about, and all I get is a flash of a screen saying something like updating android version or something like that and then the dead android with the usual red triangle and eventually the device will restart itself. I should that to him and told him he killed the android which gave me a puzzled look and then a smile...Anyway, you can't turn off the device nohow noway, except letting the battery drain completely.
I've been reading a little and learning about roots, backups, recoveries, etc... trying to come up with a plan of attack but feel like I'm spinning my wheels. Any advice here? and Can I access via PC to USB to device and just pull off his pics and videos to copy back over to the device after a wipe?
Problem started...I think when he ran the power dead completely and then had to restart...nor sure though... memories of a child are sketchy at best.

I have a solution, but your not going to like it, all data will be lost....:crying:
1. Download the latest version of Android for your tablet. Make sure you download the correct SKU version.
A. To find the SKU, go into settings, About tablet, and look for your Build Number, There are two letters (such as US,WW, TW, etc.) that is your SKU. When downloading the zip from ASUS', you must download the correct SKU zip.
2. Decompress downloaded .zip file (it will be another .zip)
3. Rename it to:
A. For the TF700 and TF300: EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
B. For the TF101: E101_SDUPDATE.zip
4. Make sure your MicroSD card is formatted Fat32. It must be Fat32 Format or it will not work.
5. Copy the file to (the root directory of) your MicroSD
6. Insert the MicroSD into the tablet
7. Shutdown (power off) the tablet
8. Power it on by pressing and holding VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons simultaneously
9. When you see white text in the top left corner of the screen, release the buttons ^^ and press VOLUME UP button (on RCK, this is your recovery which should already be selected) until you see Android logo and process bar
10. Give the update process 5-10 minutes. It should not take longer than that. If it happens to run for more than 45 minutes to an hour, force shut down the tablet and see if it boots. If it does not, try rerunning steps 7-9.
Let me know if you need any help along the way.... Thx as always lj

So the RCK thing doesn't do anything unless you have SD card in to do something that's on the card?
And there's no way to access what's on the device without getting it booted all the way?
Sounds like your saving me and my son from updating from his original Android version after a wipe...Thanks

Yes the tablet having a locked bootloader... You can only flash signed zip files...From the SDcard
When your on that screen with the RCK.. NEVER select the WIPE DATA.. Bad things will happen...
Also when your in the RCK screen.. That is called the bootloader screen....So you know if some one refers to it by its name.....
Also that is were you can find your SKU on the bootloader screen upper left in white letters... WW, US, TW ............... Make sure you get the right SKU from asus for your 300....

Out of curiousity...Isn't doing these steps more or less just upgrading the firmware? Like getting an update from ASUS? If so, why will it lose all the data?

Apologies, I'm very rusty with this stuff now. If flashing a .blob file doesn't wipe data (I can't remember whether it does or not), perhaps you could try doing that if you're able to get into recovery?

Just wanted to follow up on this...lj50036 is top noctch helper here. going above and beyond does not even come close to explaining what he has tried to do for me. Ultimately it was after we hit a brick wall, that I suggested flashing back to an earlier version that finally worked. I'm not convinced flashing to the latest version (like I first tried) would not work, as I didn't personally create/rename the SD card to do the flash. but re-flashing the original firmware got the tablet to boot finally. Of course all was lost other than what had been automatically backed up via google servers. Pictures/videos back to exactly one year from when the pad stopped booting were recovered. Everything before a year was gone. No game data or installs were saved. I thought maybe it had to do with a space issue, but after re-installing every app my son had before and about 1GB worth of pics/videos restored, there is still 16GB left, I doubt game/user data would have consumed that much...so I still have no idea what might have cause the pad to stop booting. Other than it was trying to do something important when he ran the battery dead. So at this point I'm having my son clean out unwanted apps, and we are going to unlock and root after a proper backup is done. Thank you to all that have had input on my dilemma. I've learned a ton.

Rooted, but never flashed. Best way to unroot to take the updates?

Hi there, quick question. Searched like crazy, but I think the keywords were just too generic to get any useful results.
Status:
Verizon Galaxy S3
Running 4.1.2 Touchwiz via Verizon
Rooted with some apps frozen & some greenified
Never flashed anything, there are no triangles.
The unlocked icon & "custom" appears at boot.
Issues: None, except my micro USB port doesn't work anymore, so I'm a battery swapper day to day.
I'm on the last few months on my phone, but decided I'd like to take the kitkat update. The quickest & easiest way to do this seems to be to install Universal Unroot from the play store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.universal.unroot
Run it. Then take the updates once I'm no longer rooted.
Before I did this, wanted to get your feedback on this as a process and if anyone has experience with a similar set up??
Thanks!!

Make sure you revert back to factory as much as you can remembered, like build.props, unfreeze all system apps, unroot with Universal unroot, then take the update. But first make a backup of all your apps/settings with Tibu. Worst come to worst it just failed without any harm done and if it failed and you couldn't figure out what's wrong then the fastest way and most reliable way is to Odin stock ML1, then use the OTA to upgrade to 4.4kk then root with Towelroot app, then restore all your apps with Tibu.

Thanks! That's what I'm thinking. Thinking unfreeze, ungreenify, then unroot. Do a nice reboot for good measure then take the update.
If it fails and I'm still on 4.1.2, just re-root, grab mobile odin, and **** it, let's flash!
I rooted recently using towelroot and uninstalled a bunch of bloat. What would I need to do in order to take the upgrade?

Huh. Went ahead and gave it a go. Twice. Won't take the update. It's confirmed unrooted. Huh.
my suggestion if you're still on 4.1.2 is to wait till a custom 4.4.2 rom comes out and flash that. or sell me your 4.1.2 lol. this whole locked bootloader stuff is so apple like. shame on you vzw/samsung

yeah, I may do that. I'm down to the last few months which is why I was like "screw it, let's go vzw". With that in mind, I do need to think about clearing off my personal data, so I may do a factory reset soon because why not and see what happens.
You don't want my phone. While it is in really good condition, the lack of usable micro usb (it flat out doesn't work) gets old.

had a problem w/ a refurb they gave me where the usb port was screwy. i had to firmly hold the cable in at a weird angle and luckly got through a 9min ODIN flash after 4 tries. you could probably chat w/ tech and see if they'll still send you another. i've been outta warranty for awhile but they were really cool, gave me another (although it was a locked 4.3).

Giving it one more go, found this little bit of advise on a verizon support board when someone was getting a 402 failure on a Note 2:
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/813932
Please wipe your cache partition, then try again. This will not erase data.
• Turn off the device.
• Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time:
• Volume Up key
• Home key
• Power key
• When 'GALAXY Note II' appears on the screen, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
• When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
• Press the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
• Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
• With 'reboot system now' highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.

We'll see! Yeah, if i'm stuck on 4.1.2 and get annoyed, I may re-un-root and give them a shout.

Nevermind.
It failed 402.
lol
I'd wait. If you install OTA, you will NEVER be able to go back and install normal, custom ROMs.

Looks like I have no choice. Every attempt to take the OTA has failed.

[Q] D80110G OTA phone working but NO download mode No recovery

Hello everyone,
Started from D80110C (stock using download mode), rooted, took all the OTAs till D80110G. Then, on top of that, I received another OTA for 300Mb to D80120G . I wasn't sure what it was. I finally decided to takr it. BIG MISTAKE!!! root was gone.
Tried Towelroot and Root25 and Root10, now all failing with D80120G .
So I said, easy, lets go back to stock D80110C. Surprise: download mode is gone. Every time I follow volume key sequence (tried the all) phone shows charging icon instead of download mode.
And recovery mode? only shows Factory Reset (which I already tried...)
I read that some people were able to use the LG Maintenance tool and choose "Update Recovery". Tried that: to me shows "Nothing to fix".
In other words, I'm stuck. Phone works fine (which is great), but I'm afraid I will never be able to do any upgrade since both download method and recovery method seems to be gone. Question is: will the next OTA work?
Any ideas? I read about the Linux method of overwriting the images. Pretty scary, since the phone still works I'd think something else should be available.
It could be worse, the phone is working, still I hate being without options...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
I used stump root today to root my girlfriends g2 with d80120g. link here ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906

Jswagg thanks for the reply.if I use stump, even after a factory reset, I immediately get a rooted message when in reality I'm not rooted. I read that I'm supposed to use the brute force method.how? Again,it says rooted and I see no options....
Thanks again.

After you run stump and it tells you to reboot. After the reboot go to the playstore and install supersu after that you should be all good.
Sent from my Oneplus one using XDA Free mobile app

No unfortunately stump doesn't say to reboot. It just says rooted. Then I checked with root checker and I'm not rooted.
I believe its a broken root scenario. Anyone knows what to do? Thank you in advance.
Hello I have custom recovery but unrooted on 4.2.2 JB and have ant OTA to KK can I take it or do I need stock recovery?
