Hello everyone,
Started from D80110C (stock using download mode), rooted, took all the OTAs till D80110G. Then, on top of that, I received another OTA for 300Mb to D80120G . I wasn't sure what it was. I finally decided to takr it. BIG MISTAKE!!! root was gone.
Tried Towelroot and Root25 and Root10, now all failing with D80120G .
So I said, easy, lets go back to stock D80110C. Surprise: download mode is gone. Every time I follow volume key sequence (tried the all) phone shows charging icon instead of download mode.
And recovery mode? only shows Factory Reset (which I already tried...)
I read that some people were able to use the LG Maintenance tool and choose "Update Recovery". Tried that: to me shows "Nothing to fix".
In other words, I'm stuck. Phone works fine (which is great), but I'm afraid I will never be able to do any upgrade since both download method and recovery method seems to be gone. Question is: will the next OTA work?
Any ideas? I read about the Linux method of overwriting the images. Pretty scary, since the phone still works I'd think something else should be available.
It could be worse, the phone is working, still I hate being without options...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Jswagg thanks for the reply.if I use stump, even after a factory reset, I immediately get a rooted message when in reality I'm not rooted. I read that I'm supposed to use the brute force method.how? Again,it says rooted and I see no options....
Thanks again.

After you run stump and it tells you to reboot. After the reboot go to the playstore and install supersu after that you should be all good.

No unfortunately stump doesn't say to reboot. It just says rooted. Then I checked with root checker and I'm not rooted.
I believe its a broken root scenario. Anyone knows what to do? Thank you in advance.
Hello I have custom recovery but unrooted on 4.2.2 JB and have ant OTA to KK can I take it or do I need stock recovery?

Hi,
I tried doing the Oneclick root with my Epic that is running 2.1 Eclair. When I installed Titanium and busybox it said phone is rooted. BUT when I start the phone in Manual mode to install update it only has 4 options:
Reboot
Install update
Wipe data
Wipe Cache
When I scroll down and select Install update it starts the process and then says e.signature verification failed update aborted. Is there something I am not doing right? I tried to unroot and reroot the phone but still get the same thing.
When I try the Root process with Oneclick Software for Samsung Galaxy One Click root it says the phone will restart and to select reinstall packages but I do not have that option. It still has the options shown above.
I know when I did my Hero and Evo I could get root and install Roms with no problems.
Can someone help please.
From reading you just need to install clockwork and then install roms and stuff. The kernels include a root, so install clockwork and install the rom I have in my signature. It already includes a kernel so that helps by one less thing you have to do. The one in my signature I have had no issues at all.
I installed rom manager (which is clockwork, right?) and tried to install a rom that way but when it reboots it goes to the same screen and gives the same message.

How are you rebooting into recovery? It sounds like you're hitting the stock recovery. Shut the phone down entirely and hold Vol -, Camera, and power. Keep holding until after the Samsung logo goes away.
Does this bring you more options?
If you still get nothing, try this instead
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808103
Nope.... Same options. I will read the link you provided.
Also, Busybox says that my phone is rooted then I click install and it says I do not have nand unlocked. Maybe this is the problem?

I might be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure getting nand-unlocked is a part of the rooting process. Perhaps the root didn't work entirely for you, I had a lot of problems using the 1 click root with my first epic because of timing, I had to open the batch file and replace the ping 127etc (the delays) with a pause command because the phone took too long to respond and the second half of the rooting process would fail. Try the link I posted, it worked out well on my first phone.
Thanks....So far I have removed the Oneclick root from it and now it says the phone is not rooted. My next step is to root again... Hope it works.
Worked great! Thank you!!!

Awesome, Glad to hear you're up and running, Now you get to do the fun stuff (roms!!!!)
Yup.... Already got my Rom of choice installed and happy... Did not take long at all.
Good Evening,
AT&T LG G2 rooted, TWRP. Have installed a few different roms but mostly used PA. All of a sudden the phone started experiencing issues with cell Data. So I did a clean install of PA and then had issues with BT, did another clean install and had issues with Wifi.
So I decided ok maybe its time to go back to stock. Hook it up to a win7 computer... Device manager doesn't see it at all (doesn't show up AT ALL). Says charging and that is it, does not recognize that it is hooked up to a computer. Have tried several different computers now and several different USB cables. The only way I could try other roms was downloading via wifi. Tried a stock rom and still experiencing issues.
I think there is something wrong with the phone so I want to get it warrantied, but without hooking it up to a computer I can not figure out any way to remove the custom recovery or revert it to stock. No matter what I do no computer will even recognize the phone is connected, let alone trying to install drivers. Device manager just straight up does not see it.
Any help or suggestions is GREATLY appreciated. Any way to remove recovery/root without a PC connection?
UPDATE: Here was my solution
Took some work but I figured out a way to do it in case anyone else ever runs in to this:
(make sure you are stock rom or on a stock rooted rom before proceeding)
First download the stock recovery.img on the device.
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime...10B_Partitions
Then download/open Terminal Emulator and type:
su
Then
cd /sdcard/downloads
Then
dd if=/sdcard/downloads/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
That replaces TWRP/CWM with the stock recovery.
Then open supersu, go to settings, towards the bottom is full unroot.
Yay no more custom recovery or root on stock rom.
If you are planning on getting warranty you need to use download mode and the back to stock guide also that is the best way to flash to stock and get rid of problems

Agreed, problem is the computer will not see the phone, so I can't use the program to flash it back to stock.
It's not just a driver or com issue, the computer does not see it AT ALL. Device manager doesn't see a new device when I plug it in (in OS, in Download mode, nothing).

Different usb ports, different computers, different cables (stock one included). No luck. Phone says download mode then goes to "firmware update" and says at the bottom B53 then "ROOTED" in red letters. Nothing appears in device manager.
In android regarless of rom if I plug it in it doesn't act like I plugged it in to a computer, just charging. Again nothing in device manager regardless of USB debugging or not.
currently have twrp 2.6.3.3, running D80210b 4.2.2, with baseband M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190034
What I really need to know is if there is any way to restore stock recovery and remove root without using that method (ie using Terminal Commands or flashing a package, since I can download via wifi).
I am pretty sure this phone has a messed up USB port, but I don't really want to send it in with it rooted/twrp on it .

Did you try restore & reset functionality on the phone? I had somewhat similar issue with the plug & pop feature (although my laptop recognized the phone under Devices & Printer but it didn't show it as a separate drive) when I flashed CM11 but then I did a full factory reset, everything goes back to normal. Also you might try uninstall LG driver and reinstall it. Hope this help.

Unfortunately it is not a driver issue, it doesn't show up in device manager at all, on several machines.
I have tried multiple different roms, factory rests, even tried ADB sideloading, no luck.
i remember there's this app called Auto Rec that has an option to unroot the device or something like that.
Took some work but I figured out a way to do it in case anyone else ever runs in to this:

Yay no more custom recovery or root on stock rom. (this was after flashing a rooted stock rom by downloading it on the device itself since I had no USB).

It worked perfectly and I got the phone exchanged without any hassle, but if your USB is working there are plenty of better ways to return to stock. This was an option I had to use because of USB not functioning. I mean this would allow you to unroot without wiping/restoring but if your going to send the phone in anyway you might as well wipe it as well.

I understand and thank you for the reply.
I am a bit afraid of the other methods I saw and this one seems easier
I have a question if you can answer to me.
I restored the official rom from TWRP and did all the process you wrote. Is there any way to check if now I have the stock recovery?
And to see if I am now ready to send my phone to LG?
P.S. "I will hit the thanks button tomorrow because I have reached the limit of 8 thanks per day "

So I have to congratulate and thank once more this man @crawlgsx for this great thread.
It worked on my D802 (international model) and got it repaired by the official service center of LG in Greece.
Great work, with no need of PC and difficult processes.
Noob question, but will this allow users to take OTA updates? Running stock rooted right now and really don't want revert to stock to get latest ota, but this seems pretty seamless. Thanks.

I believe that in order to take OTAs you must be on stock rom and stock recovery. Be rooted will not be a problem if you have these stock but when OTA installed you will lose root access.
If I am wrong, correct me someone.
Hi
Sorry to bump this thread but I need to unroot my AT&T G2 800 so get the warranty.. I had taken the stock backup using twrp.
Can I restore the restore it using twrp ? and do i need to install Terminal emulator on my restored stock rom and then do the commands ?
Are there any chances of bricking the phone ?
Hey Guys. So Some of you may know towelroot was just released by Geohot. I went ahead and tried it on my G2 runing stock 4.4.2 and it WORKED! I ran root checker after running the apk and it said I have full root level access. You just have to download SuperSu from market afterwards. I downloaded root explorer and was prompted with the prompt to grant root and all was well!
Link to original post: http://tinyurl.com/pykqkpt
1. Go to http://towelroot.com/
2. tap the logo for apk
3. Run the apk and follow directions within
4. After phone reboots, Install SuperSu
ALL DONE!
A side note, I haven't tried using rom manager to install custom recovery as I'm not sure if we've found a button code. If someone is willing to help me with that Id be grateful. I can't afford to brick this phone as it's my only phone work work and play.
AWESOME.
Can anyone else confirm this before we try? any bugs?
And how do I go about installing TWRP recovery (or any other suitable recovery)
All is working fine, flash twrp recovery with autorec app by cloudy.
As a side note, please donate to Dev if you can. I know i did.

too late I used a autorec and actually got the phone to TWRP. I then proceeded (stupidly) erasing everything and wiping the device because I thought I'd be able to mount it and copy the CyanogenMod file I wanted.
Boy was I wrong.. TWRP did not allow me to mount the device to USB. And for some reason I couldn't get the right driver to install in Device Manager.
At one point I decided it would be a good idea to restart, now I'm stuck at boot loop and I can't get back into TWRP. I tried holding power+down, that forces it to restart a bunch of times. I held the UP button but that puts it into FIRMWARE UPATE mode which also doesn't allow ADB
How do I get back to TWRP? how do I flash Cyanogen mod through ADB
Any ideas please?

Hold vol down + power button until screen flashes black followed by lg screen release buttons and quickly press both again and hold. It will boot you to a white screen asking you if you want to fully factory restore...press power to agree... Since twrp replaced factory recovery it will not wipe but instead take you into twrp...takes a couple tries sometimes... You need cm and gapps packages on your internal memory to flash through twrp
If you wiped everything you will have to start over by flashing the original firmware again. It happened to me too because I didn't have the ROM I was flashing on my device already. I used this guide, http://youtu.be/Lg693AYgoTo, to flash back to stock JB, then upgrade again. Just be sure the rom is you want to flash is on your phone since USB won't work. It's no guarantee though, esp. since there is that driver error.

Nevermind I forgot you can choose files from computer when connected...but yeah...may need full restore...there are a few step by step threads on here to do so
Same problem I encountered, so I just figured USB is a no go and had to do the firmware update and then start over with ROM and GAPPS on device next time.Hope you get it...it sucks with all the excitement and all the time us G2 owners had to wait!
Ugh. This sucks. this file is taking forever to download for some reason and I'm in no mood to start dealing with this ****.
I'm just going to take it to the T-Mobile store tomorrow.

OH wow. I ended up finding this wonderful little tool called LGMobile Support Tool which completely and automatically reset my device back to factory setting! That was SUPER easy.
Update: People seem to be getting confused. You take the latest ota after step 2 then continue. When you are done there should be no OTA as you are on the latest firmware
Before I start this is how I rooted MY phone and a few friends as we all wanted to test out Verizon's new VoLTE only on Android 4.4.4. I Just fallowed other guides (Links below) To get this to root my phone and did not do any of this without XDA help.
If you wish to use VoLTE fallow the link here:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/advanced-calling.html
DO NOT DO OTA! To NHA IF ROOTES OR EVER ROOTED
The ota update should fail, if it does not you might get stuck on a bootloop and need to reset your phone. this happened to me and someone else I was helping.

3. Once your phones starts put it back into download mode, and select G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 under PA and Click start and wait a few minutes.
4. Once your phone restarts you may notice some apps will start to fail and force close, this is why I had you install Towel Root prior so we can get in and get out, Press Ok or Force Close continuously if necessary until you get Towel Root open and "Make it rain". Then turn off the phone and go back into Download Mode.
5. Now flash NI2_stock_kernel.tar.md5 and let the phone restart
6. Everything should be good! Enjoy and message for help.
I am not responsible for what happens!! Well unless you get it working 100% and are happy. But There is a risk

Anyone try this yet?
Does this include the little incremental update that came out yesterday? I followed the steps outlined here http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/vzw-ota-4-4-4-pushed-t2872220/post55347753 and am now rooted on 4.4.4 (NHA). What about yesterday's update (NI2)?

does using ODIN to load the new updates just break root or does it wipe the phone as well?

Just breaks root. Although always make backups just in case something goes wrong.
it's hanging at the VZ logo when booting after trying odin to NHA. I guess I'll just odin back to stock and start the process
Are these instructions good for people on Safestrap and people who are just on rooted stock (no safestrap)?

Awesome NHA has alot of problems for me. SDcard update failing etc
I used Towelroot to root my GS5 back in April. I haven't done any updates (as far as I can remember), still running 4.4.2 with firmware NCG. I've also installed several Xposed mods.
Would this method still work for me to upgrade to the newest OTA and keep root, without wiping my data?
I had no problems, I used Odin to flash NHA, then took update, Odin to NCG Kernel Root Superuser, back to NI2 Kernel and was all fine !!!
Chief !!!

I just bought my s5 from s4, came with NCG I keep it that way for a week (rooted) before upgrading, I upgraded because I wanted VoLTE so yes
Worked great. Have root on NI2 and didn't have to wipe phone. Thanks!
Phone got wiped first time i entered download mode. strange.
Either case, did the steps, looked good, then OTA notifier came in about NI2, took that and now no root Shouldn't have?
Thoughts?
Thanks!

I just kept trying and got it. I think the hotspot patch is no good. has anyone had any success? I get stuck at the red VZ logo on boot after I installed that.
Can anyone help? I spent a big chunk of my hard earned money on a refurbed S6 for my daughter, she's had it about a week (she's Pokemon mad btw). The latest update for Pokemon Go came out and now she's blocked from the game as it appears the phone has been rooted. If I'd known, I wouldn't have bought it. Anyway, for the last 2 days my partner and I have been trying to unroot it. We've used various versions of Odin to no avail. I had a lot of trouble finding the right firmware because it looks like the phone was Polish according to the version and CSC numbers, and tbh I'm still not sure if we're trying the right one. Software is 5.1.1. right now. I've tried installing SuperSU but it won't run, it just crashes the phone and forces a reboot. We've tried manually unrooting with a file manager but the su files we need to delete reappear seconds after they're deleted. I'm at the end of my tether, does anyone have any ideas?
You won't be able to unroot it until you flash stock firmware. I don't know if the game checks the knox status.
Give this a go

Enjoy
Unforunately my partner spent almost all night trying to flash the firmware. According to him it 'nearly' worked, however, I now have a phone stuck in a boot loop. :crying:

Smart switch won't work, says it doesn't recognise the device
I think I would give original firmware of your country and odin a try. One of possible ways is to download all needed files from the site of sammobile.
For me this way works every time when I stuck in boot loop. Odin functionates when you are in download mode. Switch off your s6, then start by pressing home-, powerbutton and Volume down at the same time.
Then start Odin on PC, then connect USB and so on.

When you select emergency recovery theres an option where you have to write the device model and the serial number
Use kies 3 on your computer. When you get it do a "firmware upgrade and installation" it will ask for your serial number which you can get from download mode when pressing the home key. After that kies 3 will ask to boot your phone to recovery but instead boot to download and bow your phone will flash to stock. This method always work!!

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I've tried Kies already and I can't get it to work at all. I get a message telling me my device is not compatible and the whole thing just stops. I'll give it another go though, no harm in trying. Thanks
@amber_1978, Pokemon Go does not check for root. The only thing it does seem to check for is location spoofing via another app. I'm using it on a rooted, Knox tripped, Xposed installed phone with no issues.
If you want to return the phone back to stock, the best way IMO would be to use Odin to flash a stock image, such as the EPD1 firmware.

Really? Did you do the latest update in the game and it still worked ok? This phone has definitley not been used for location spoofing by us and I'm pretty sure there were no apps of that nature on the phone. I downloaded a root checker when everything went wrong the other day, it said the phone was rooted. I'm totally at a loss tbh. Right now it's still in a boot loop. Trying to flash it with Odin as we speak.
Just an update. Tried Smart Switch. Tried the model and serial numbers on the back of the phone case, these weren't recognised so I went to the recovery screen and hit the home button and got a completely different set of numbers. Different IMEI, model number, you name it. I'm assuming this is why Odin won't work, I'm looking for the wrong firmware? I obviously have Frankenstein's phone. No idea what to do now.
Best thing to do is to flash TWRPP and try to flash a custom stock rom through the TWRP recovery which does not have root installed..... If that doesn't work try to find a generic stock firmware for Odin, meaning a firmware that can run in any country..... If all else fails update it to 6.0.1 stock firmware. Try the closest firmwares to your location.
And if you do manage to get to the Samsung logo let the phone sit there for a good 10 minutes even if it reboots....
When I bricked my Samsung I used masiks custom 6.0.1 rom based on stock, but had all the links to bootloaders cscs radios and what not so giv that a shot if you can find it.
