The best remote control apps for android TV-box in 2014 - Android Stick & Console Computers General

Hi everyone. I hope one of you can help me out here. Can you advice me the best remote control apps and launchers for my Minix neo-x7? I'm looking for the apps which can give me an opportunity of controlling my TV-box just through my phone. I've found one launcher for minix, but it was built for tablets and in some apps on my phone there appear problems with the display resolution.
Any ideas?
Thanks for participating

Thank you for your attention. i tried RK app , but it is too old app (at about 4 years) and it works unstable on my phone. i've also googled and found Logitech Harmony app but there is one problem - it works only with google tv. Don't you know another remote control apps which will be interesting and useful for me?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Use DroidMote server and client. Best one there is.
Have fun!

Thanks a lot, if u use this one so can you tell me about its functionalyty - can i use my smartphone like a mouse or touch pad for typing a text or other information?

First of all, your minix neo x7 need to be rooted.
You can use DroidMote as mouse pad, keyboard, mic, remote for music/video and game controler. It's connected by Wifi.
These options work perfect but the game controler not so much.
If you want to see DroidMote working, Just search for DroidMote on YouTube.

Thank you for your advice - but i have problem with DroidMote. When i try to install it the programm asks abot access to the root files. so smartphone block it all times((( i realy do not know how to root my fone and will it be justified action.

You need to install the DroidMote Client on your phone and the DroidMote Server on your Minix neo x8.
In my opinion only the server (Minix) need root access. If you check at the play store, at the bottom of the page, you can see the rights that the app needed. Only the server asks for 'full access of memory and phone options' and the client not.
If your Minix neo X8 is not rooted, just check on YouTube 'how to root Minix neo x8' But follow the instructions carefull.
another option is: search at dx.com for a cheap android keyboard with mousepad.

If you don't do too many crazy stuffs like gaming, 3d map zooming navigation etc.. just basic operations control nagivation then RK app version 2.02 is all you need. it works well on all my galaxy phones (s3,s4,note2,nexus) and tablet (note 10.1 2014).

If I want to play games, on my stick (GTA3, Asphalt) which controller, do you suggest, for the device?

There is a version 2.03 which i use on my Nexus 5 without any issues, the app isn't particularly polished but it gets the job done. I can post the link to the newer version if you want?

Not sure if it's the best, but I rather like Able Remote. Have to temporarily spoof the box to appear to be a Google TV to the Play Store (or obtain the app that goes on the box elsewhere and sideload) to install Able Remote for Google TV on the box and install the regular Able Remote on the phone. There are some sections in the remote that will be useless unless you're on an actual Google TV, channels for instance, but the keyboard and mouse modes work well, and there's even a launcher on the remote where you can choose what app on the box to launch. Could pin your most used ones on one of the pages of the remote.

Hello,
Can you share the Able Remote for Google TV apk, i can't find it on the internet.

I would suggets you buy a key board with touch pad, I have been struggling with my Tronfy xbmc media player a lot before i bought a keyboard.

You should go here to find this app that can use mouse in the Fire TV and other android box, and also can sideload the app from its app center, I use it for my MXQ box, nice!

Android Phone as TF Game Controller

I'm wondering if there is an app that exists where you can use your android phone as a game controller to play games on the TF? The TF is a little bit uncomfortable for playing games like Zelda for extended periods of time. It would be nice to know that I can just grab out my phone and prop my TF up to start playing.
I know that using an xbox controller, Wii controller, or PS3 controller via bluetooth or wired works but the problem is I only have a wired xbox 360 controller and I don't own the TF docking station (yet).

Im hoping this comes along eventually. I remember this on iPad + iPhone. You could install a snes emulator on iPad and the controll app on the iphone and use it that way. You had to be jailbroken for it to work because the app was in cydia.
In addition, using your TF w/ Dock as a PS3 keyboard...
There's an app for that! (c)

Android phone as game controller on pc
In order to use your android device as a game controller on your PC you need 2 applications. One for your android device called "agamepad.apk", and another program for your PC called "PPJoySetup". PPJoySetup is currently being made compatible with Windows 7 64-bit, and perhaps a few other OS. Here are the instructions on how to install and use, as well as a few links to the directions and pertaining to this subject:
aGamepad allows you to use your Android based phone as gamepad for Windows. It supports three analog axes and up to 32 buttons (currently implemented 4).
Special thanks to:
Tsutomu SEKI
Windows side of application is based on his sources.
Deon van der Westhuysen
For writing such a great application as PPJoy.
How to use
Download aGamepad.apk and install it on your device
Download PPJoySetup and install it on your PC
Download controller.dll and extract it somewhere
After installing PPJoySetup run Configure Joysticks (Programs->Parallel Port Joystick)
Press Add
Make sure that Parallel port field is set to Virtual Joysticks. Press Add
Wait for drivers to be installed
Choose currently added joystick from list and press Mapping
Press Next
Choose any number of axes (max 3)
Choose number of buttons (currently max 4)
Set POV to 0 and press Next
Make sure there is for each axis set Analog N and press Next
Press Next and Finish
Press Done
Now everything is ready for use
Run PPJoyDLL (Programs->Parallel Port Joystick)
Choose DLL type to Callback DLL interface and press Load DLL
Point the dll you saved earlier
Now run aGamepad on your phone (assuming that you have connected with your PC using wifi)
Enter IP address of your PC and press Ok
If you see in PPJoyDLL's window line "Sending joystick updates to PPJoy" it means that everything works.
Apparently, I cannot post any links because this website fears spam links, but you can google it. I just read that PPJoySetup 0.8.4.5 supports 64bit, there might also be .6 out now.
Enjoy.
MoffoCobain that is useful but not quite what the OP was after... the ability to use an android phone to control an android tablet.
Would be interested in doing this as well

[APP] OnLive Viewer from HTC Flyer (works on Xperia Play)

It looks like the OnLive Viewer app from the HTC Flyer has been ripped and the .apk available for other devices. You can find the original topic here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138194
And the post with the .apk is here:

I saw this the other day and decided to give it a shot on my Xperia Play. The first time I tested it, it would not connect. However, I tested it again this morning and was able to login and watch videos that others had recorded. Everything ran pretty smooth and looked pretty good.
Even though this isn't an official release, I think that there could be a lot of potential for OnLive with Android devices, especially the Xperia Play. I look forward to seeing where they take it.
I just got this the other day and can say im excited. I use onlive daily and think everyone should try it i have over 20 games and the microconsole and bought the xperia play with hopes of onlive for it.

There was some news that Sony Ericsson gave some money to the people at Onlive(even tho HTC gave so much more). Onlive for the xperia play would be perfect with and without their new HDMI cradle
Any chance on getting this on the Android Market? would be excellent so if there are any updates released we can get them automatically via the market.
Thanks for the app though
can't wait til we get a player app. this phone + onlive would end my productivity for life.

OnLive is a cloud based gaming application. It's primary use is so mid to low end computers can play top tear games that there computer could not play in the native way. This application is a viewer, it will let you watch brag clips, and live feeds of your OnLive friends playing. You can also watch trailers of games you may want to buy. The hope is soon OnLive will bring out a full flegged client, allowing us to play games like Dirt 3 and Deus Ex 3 on our xperia play

It already is possible. HTC is launching an OnLive version of the Evo 4G. It comes with the first playable OnLive client, HDMI out and a special OnLive controller. Once its released, because we have a H/W pad, the client can most prob be ripped from the Evo for us

when you open the viewer and go to gallery to watch people playing the games. It is LIVE. That is why it is so different from you tube. A LIVE stream of the game being played is the viewer. Being able to send the controls back to the server makes it a player.
Hence, netflix streaming + video games + plus hardware controls on our phone = win. Go to google and lookup onlive, or for a demo that requires nothing to install, to see how a service like this could work, go lookup gaikai. that lets you do game demo's for things like crysis 2 in your browser, using your keyboard/mouse to control, at full resolution, even if your computer can't handle the game.
Just tried it on my Xperia Play, it needs a steady connection to run (WiFi-N with good speed).

I've just downloaded the game on my Samsung S7 Edge, could you please tell me a bit more in detail how to connect it with a Gamepad?
I know I have to use my USB adapter, but what does MHL and SlimPort stand for?
Screen Mirroring - do you mean Smart View ?
I'm also thinking of buying Samsung Gear VR, but I would like to try it out on my TV first.
It launched pretty fast and the loading screen works nice, and is simple to understand and use. I like it so far but would like to try it out on the TV for real.
Thanks!

Hi,
You can connect your bluetooth gamepad, dont need the USB adapter. Just pair the bluettoth, enter game options and enable Gamepad option.
With Slimport/MHL/Screen mirroring I mean that you can control the spacecraft with the gamepad and play in your monitor or TV. It is the same than playing the NO VR mode on the phone with a gamepad but in your TV instead.
Smart View is the samsung name for screen mirroring (Screecast) but it can be a bit laggy , so I prefer connect to TV using wire and play with the bluetooth gamepad.
I will try to post a picture of my configuration at home later.
Looks pretty nice!

Can you also put an instruction how to enter NO VR mode just on the phone?
Cheers :good:

Hi,
To play the NO VR mode, just enter the game setting and disable de VR mode.
Same with the Bluetooth remote, after connecting to the device, enter settings and enable gamepad support inside the game.
About connetin to the TV, it depend on your device model. For example HTC m9 can be connected to the TV using a MHL to HDMI adaptor, but with with nexus 6p you can only connect wirelessly, via screencast. not sure about Galaxy S7.
Hope this info helps.
Omg I didn't even notice the settings menu. I am sorry!
I will try to do a through test this week and try to capture a short video if everything goes well.
Thank you for your support. :good:

[APP][MOD][CAST] JioTV MOD with Miracast, Android TV and Firestick Support

Hi everyone,
This JioTV Mod allows mirroring to Android TV, and will not show "Casting not available on this TV Channel" message.
This doesn't requires root and Xposed.
TV version can be installed on FireTV and AndroidTV.
This does requires your Jio ID to login.
If you are installing this mod for first time, you'll have to uninstall your previous JioTV app.
If you want to update the mod, uninstall isn't required.
A simple install and you are all set.

I don't know if the server would allow to access outside India, if its giving you problem you can use HD Streamz, it works without VPN.
Tried to install on FireTV stick and it doesn't run saying it's not compatible. It works great on a smartphone though.
I installed both the apk's and I don't find the casting option on any channels

You have to use Miracast for Screen Mirroring.
If you are using chromecast, then there's also an option for screen Mirroring.
It works on Wifi! Thank you so much. I get weak Jio signal in my room so watching Jio tv is great pain in the #&@. Also, Jio stupidly disabled the app from using wifi after allowing it for the initial period. Thanks to you I can now watch seamless tv via wifi. I am using jio but prefer wifi connectivity for bufferless experience. Thanks again.
can you add support to watch star channels?

Hi,
Many of Jio Users wants to cast JioTV app, and are getting Message like "Casting not available on this TV Channel".
So here is a modded app which supports Miracast.
Firstly uninstall any JioTV apk and then install the provided apk as Normal apk.
That's it.
No Xposed or Root Needed.

Also have you added update notification off in the mod
Thank you for your work. Finally found a solution after trying Xposed modules and Snalipatcher.
Could you please also make a similar mod for Hotstar app? It would be highly appreciated.
I use LAN cable in my android box for Internet, this Jio TV opens up but it says no connection, the thing is it doesn't support LAN. Can you make it support LAN ?
The latest update doesnt work, first displays something went wrong then just stays at starting jio tv. Reverted to the second last version and its working fine.
