It looks like my phone is unrooted after the 4.4.3 update. I tried to remove the weaksauce app, reinstall it along with SuperSU, rebooted but no luck. Any idea what to do now ?
I have weaksauce too so I can tether. I am scared to load the update in case I lose it.

Only thing you might be able to do is try the sunshine method. It's 25 bucks but it will let you know if it can work with your phone.

Never... I repeat never take an Ota if you plan on modding your phone. Because things like this can happen.
Yah, the changelog specifically says that it fixes the root exploit.

WeakSauce is fixed in 4.4.3, we have known this was coming for months now. It won't be updated for a number of reasons. You need to unlock/s-off before updating to 4.4.3 to get root on 4.4.3 for now.
Firewater - unlock/s-off - Free - http://firewater-soff.com/ (does not work on all m8s. Does not work on 4.4.3)
SunShine - unlock/s-off - $25 - http://theroot.ninja/ (Does not work on 4.4.3 for the time being, will update)

I'm planning to go S-off and accepted the OTA update but didn't install it. The device seems to force you to schedule an installation. Is there a way to cancel the OTA before it installs.

Try to find where it's been downloaded to. On Motorola it was in the cache/fota folder. Once you find it, just use a root file explorer to move it somewhere else.

SunShine does two things, unlocks the bootloader, and s-offs the device.
So yes
pardon my old lady cautiousness, my verizon s-off m8 is having some issues charging and i was considering taking up verizon on the replacement which if it comes 4.4.3 with s-on, then i am not SoL because sunshine now supports s-off?

If you do it from recovery, yes.
Once you are s-off, you don't need weaksauce anymore.
Just flash su through a custom recovery like you would normally do when rooting an android device.

Is HTC ModSource Sonic? I would assume so given the CO address. Might have to send my phone to him
My question is, how much support for custom ROM's and kernel's are going to be around with such a limited number of people being able to do this?
support thread is live
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704126
i cant speak for sonic, but in the past he has been willing to do a couple dev phones for free. i wouldnt worry too much about support... either a software exploit will be found,or more folks will get tired of waiting and use his service. either way, there will eventually be support.
i have used his service as well. there is no disasembly of your shiny new phone, and he is trustworthy individual. as long as you also pay for enuff insurance youve nothing to lose but a few days away from your new baby
I already miss mine as I sent it out today... lol

Actually, that was expected. OEM updates will fix what they consider to be security holes. Root exploits are exactly that.
On 4.4.3 weaksauce is dead, firewater is dead, sunshine will be updated but may take weeks according to jcase.
So my Verizon HTC One M8 screen had a yellowish tint in the bottom left corner and I was gonna send it in to HTC. So I flashed a stock ROM, locked the boot loader and turned s-on. Then I removed SuperSU using Universal Unroot. My phone then did an OTA update of 4.4.3 which was fine until I noticed SuperSU was back but I didn't have root so there was no way to removed it. Then I opened the bootloader just searching for some way to figure out how to remove SuperSU and it said ***tampered*** at the top. I looked up a guide to remove that but it required s-off and an unlocked bootloader. When I went to do that I learned at WeakSauce no longer works on 4.4.3. Since I have SuperSU installed, Sunshine wont work either.
Oh and apparently HTC knew my phone had been rooted when I called the support line to see about fixing the issue.
Any ideas on how to return this to factory to attempt to trick HTC or at least regain roo? Honestly have no clue what to do, my hands seem tied.
If you want root back on 4.4.3 you'll have to pay $25 to use sunshine. Normally its a one time fee but in your case you will need to pay twice if you want to S-OFF again when you get it back.

I just picked up my HTC one m8 verizon yesterday and the firmware is 4.4.4
I downloaded weaksauce but kept getting an error saying root failed.
I went ahead and downloaded sunshine but I after I clicked temp root, sunshine crashed and said sunshine is not responding.
Any ideas?
I just want to install xposed
I figured it out and sunshine is installed. But when I go to download supersu it tells me that there are no binaries installed and it can't install them itself
Read the entire thread linked below. I'm waiting too. Please don't bug the developers. They have stated they will release 3.0 as soon as they can. Bummer, but that's just the way things are. Between Weaksauce2 and Sunshine 2.8.4 you should be able to at least get TempRoot. That will give some more functionality.

It's supposed to check first and only prompt you to pay if it will work. If it told you it will work, prompted you to pay, you paid, and it didn't work then I would contact them. I think they're on iirc but their website definitely has "contact us" info.

As of yet, at least.

I'm just guessing here but I think they might be working hard on getting the M9 (verizon ) S-off and unlocked before doing anything with the M8 Lollipop .......just MHO
Started OTA and Stopped 1/2 Way

I answered my own question. I was just able to run Sunshine and it tested my phone. My gosh how relevied I was to see that it passed. Talk about dodging a bullet!

Will sunshine work and what do I use to root? I used weaksauce before, but that isn't supposed to work now (from what I hear).
I'm glad I didn't to the last OTA update, but not sure where to start/turn now. Actually I only postponed it for 12 hours. It really wants me to update. {getting worried}
Thanks;
A (very very hopefull) Bug :fingers-crossed:
The hold up on both the m8 and m9 is a root exploit for android 5. The security in android 5 has taken a huge leap forward and closed all of the known root exploits. Until another is found, verizon devices are stuck unless you go the java card route. Just look browse the verizon note 4 forums, they don't have a root exploit either.

Better answer than the extremely rude one I received earlier. Even though I was in the wrong for asking for an ETA, there was a better way of telling me to not ask that.
