[Q] Vibrate only on vibrate, not ring. - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503410
Search only points out this guy having the same problem as me.
So yeah, basically that. Any way I can disable vibration when the phone is on ring?
Hell, even 15 year old Nokias have this option, and so did my iPhone 4.
This is what I want: When the phone is on vibrate, I want it to vibrate and not sound. When the phone is on ring mode I want it to sound but not vibrate.
I know this is kind of stupid, but it annoys the hell out of me for some reason.
Do I have to install some kind of app or something? I know of other Android devices that can do this (my brothers Xperia U for example).
I tried this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=Orion.Soft and disabled vibration on ring (normal mode) but it made no difference.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to long press the power button and chose ring mode, vibration mode or nothing at all mode?

it may be of software error....vibrator is working, it fails oly in ring mode. so try flashing stock rom, quite simple

There is an option for it at settings/sound, vibrate when ringing. Doesn't it work for you? It does for me

All my friends moto Gs behave the same way, so I think its not a SW issue.

No, that is so that the phone does not vibrate when you get a call. I'm talking about WhatsApp, Twitter and SMS.
Thank you all.

I beg to differ.
Look under Settings > Sound. Make sure vibrate is set to either Always or Only in Silent Mode. Then select Volume and turn ringtone volume all the way down. Leave media and alarm volumes turned up. Voila!

Need a Mute app that allows vibration

I've been using an app to mute all the sounds on my phone (called Mute!), but it also blocks the vibration function. Does anyone have an app that will mute all system sounds (phone, notification, etc) and still allow vibration?
Press the volume down button till your phone vibrates. Works like a champ
Audio guru is pretty good.

That only mutes the ringer volume. I tried that when I first got my phone at the movie theater. I wasn't too happy when I kept getting text messages and didn't know how to turn off the notification sound.
I found Simple Sound Profile Widget. It lets you set up different sound profiles (like Normal, Meeting, Vibrate, Loud, or whatever) and then you can select one quickly from the home screen.
I'll check out Switcher Pro and Audio Guru as well.

Just go to settings-sound-then set vibrate to always and then no need for a app

Like Byrd said, no need to download an app. It already has the capability to mute all sounds for all notifications, but keep the vibrate on.

Ringtone/Notification Volume Question?

I have tried to search for this but haven't really found any solution. On my previous android phones when I go into work or somewhere that I want my phone on vibrate I would just simply hold the Vol Down key until it goes to Vibrate and everything would be silenced (ringtones, notification tones, etc.) but when I got phone calls, text, etc it would vibrate.
For some reason on this phone when I do this it doesn't control the individual "Notification" volume, so I have go in and manually control that myself. I guess for some people this might be useful to manually control them individually but to just quickly silence the normal things like ringtones & notifications. For me personally it's quite annoying to have to deal with them on an individual basis.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out on this!
I'm also curious about this. I do the same thing. I put my phone on vibrate when I get to work which silences the ringer but if I do something else (I often play ads in Viggle for bonus points) that volume is untouched and must be silenced on its own...
I'm using CM10 currently. Not sure if this differs between roms.

Is there a settings / sound / volumes / link ringtone and notifications check box?
I haven't had either issue. If mine is on vibrate that's all it does, if silenced it's all silenced. Hmm.
Have you guys tried using a widget or the notification toggle?

Thanks Romman0! That option is not available, but just your keyword of "link" enabled me to find an app that does exactly what I needed! :good:

Would anyone be interested in a widget for this? I could get right onto developing it if there's a demand for it.

Is not a app sound, it's a weird sound caused by vibration. When you press a key the phone vibrates, and sometimes this vibration is like a screen cracking.

[Q] Gmail vibrate after 4.3

After upgrading to 4.3, my Gmail is vibrating every time I get a new email. I didn't have it set to do that before the update. I checked the Gmail settings for each of my accounts and the vibration notification is off. How is this still happening? Any ideas?
Somebody else has to have this issue.
You could clear data for Gmail and set it up again or try looking in Settings/Sound maybe there's something there. I'm not on TW 4.3 to try first hand.

I might have to try that after work today.
I cleared the data on the Gmail app and I am still getting a vibration on a new email. I attached a screenshot of my settings for that account. The vibrate is unchecked. My phone is set to vibrate mode right now. It has a sound that is supposed to play so is that maybe switching the sound to a vibration instead since I'm in vibration mode?
I just came across this too after flashing the stock rooted 4.3 ROM.
There seems to be no solution for this, and GS4 people have been complaining about it for a while. Haven't seen a real solution yet unfortunately.
In my case, my phone is on vibrate most of the time. When it's not on vibrate it can be nice to hear an audible notification when I receive a new email. But to be honest, audible Gmail notifications aren't that critical for me. So I set the Gmail notification ringtone to Silent and now my GS3 doesn't vibrate when I receive emails.

OK, glad I'm not the only one that is having this issue. It's really annoying and I might just have to shut off the sound for it. Does shutting the sound off fix the vibration when you are in vibrate mode?

Yes, setting the notification tone inside the Gmail app to "Silent" will stop the phone from vibrating when you receive an email, while in vibrate mode.
