[Q] Gmail vibrate after 4.3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

After upgrading to 4.3, my Gmail is vibrating every time I get a new email. I didn't have it set to do that before the update. I checked the Gmail settings for each of my accounts and the vibration notification is off. How is this still happening? Any ideas?

Somebody else has to have this issue.

You could clear data for Gmail and set it up again or try looking in Settings/Sound maybe there's something there. I'm not on TW 4.3 to try first hand.

I might have to try that after work today.

I cleared the data on the Gmail app and I am still getting a vibration on a new email. I attached a screenshot of my settings for that account. The vibrate is unchecked. My phone is set to vibrate mode right now. It has a sound that is supposed to play so is that maybe switching the sound to a vibration instead since I'm in vibration mode?

I just came across this too after flashing the stock rooted 4.3 ROM.
There seems to be no solution for this, and GS4 people have been complaining about it for a while. Haven't seen a real solution yet unfortunately.
In my case, my phone is on vibrate most of the time. When it's not on vibrate it can be nice to hear an audible notification when I receive a new email. But to be honest, audible Gmail notifications aren't that critical for me. So I set the Gmail notification ringtone to Silent and now my GS3 doesn't vibrate when I receive emails.

Same! Same issue. Really is annoying.

OK, glad I'm not the only one that is having this issue. It's really annoying and I might just have to shut off the sound for it. Does shutting the sound off fix the vibration when you are in vibrate mode?

Yes, setting the notification tone inside the Gmail app to "Silent" will stop the phone from vibrating when you receive an email, while in vibrate mode.

Notifications not sounding?

I've noticed that, for some reason, during the day my notifications won't sound. The phone will vibrate but I have missed calls, SMS, emails, etc. because of this. The phone is DEFINITELY on loud and I am NOT changing the volume in pocket (it happens with or without case). Everytime it happens, I checked my volume and it is all the way up.
Any ideas? PS - happens on any ROM

I had a similar issue that turned out to be due to my own mis-setting of CyanogenMod's quiet hours <.< 12PM is different than 12AM.
In your case it sounds like there is a setting somewhere that is preventing there from being a notification sound. Do you use stock messaging and gmail? Go into the settings for those applications (stock or non) and check to make sure its set correctly. Has this always been true? Have you tried doing a full factory reset? It sucks but its the best way to gauge whether or not you are experiencing a setting issue or if its really a hardware issue. Do your calls ring?

I appreciate the help; I'll check quiet hours. As I stated, calls have the same problem. Notifications are definitely properly configured in their respective apps because I get the sounds sometimes.

In your Sound -> Volume Make sur ethe "Use incoming call volume for notificatons" radio is ticked. Turn ringer all the way up and see if you can hear your notifications.

[Q] New phone won't vibrate

I am new to Samsung, and new to this phone, so maybe I am missing something silly.
I can't get this thing to vibrate! I have tried all the vibration settings (always, only on silent, etc.) and I have my gmail and voice settings to always vibrate, but the dang thing won't vibrate. Even the little vibrate icon in the notification bar lights up, and it vibrates when you turn off/on and when you volume down to silent (just as confirmation of silent mode), so I feel confident it isn't a hardware issue.
I just got it Saturday, and I have been testing out different profile managers. I have them all deleted now, but could one of them set something to not vibrate? Even though I have it set to vibrate in stock settings? I can't remember if it vibrated before I started messing with those profile managers...
Should I just factory reset and start over?
Put it on vibrate. Then go to your sound settings and make the notification sound louder. Then try calling your phone to see if it worked.
Should of posted this in q&a btw.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the incorrect location.
OK, tried what you suggested. Looks like vibration works for phone calls but still no vibration for notifications.

Yes, vibration intensity is on max for all.
ETA: Ok, My wife has a brand new i777 that we got at the same time and I set up the same way. Her notifications weren't vibrating either, even though I had the settings set up that way. I checked the profile manager that was still on her phone (that I had had on my phone, but deleted) and vibration was unchecked. When I checked it, the phone vibrated as it should. Therefore, it looks like that app (Profile Scheduler) left something unchecked down inside the OS even though it is deleted and the stock OS says to vibrate.
I'm going to try to reinstall that app and check the settings and then uninstall again and see if that fixes it. Otherwise I'm going to have to factory reset.
ETA2: Ok. Looks like that fixed it! It changed my ringtone, but that is a simple fix. Much better than having to factory reset. Thanks everyone!

Disable/Silence Notification Sound

How do I silence notifications?
I have been looking around the settings and cannot find a way to silence the notification sound for SMS's, emails, etc. On stock Android most applications have a ringtone called "Silent" or something to that effect. On the HOS I cannot find it. I feel stupid asking this, but hopefully I am not the only one that is new to Sense and does not know where this is.
Thank you.

Go into sms>setting>notification>uncheck notification sound to silent sms. Then go to mail>settings>notification settings>uncheck sound notification. Hope this helps

Notifications and the phone Ringer volumes are tied together with no way to separate them. If you put the phone in silent it will silence notifications, or if you use the volume rocker on the side of the phone, notification sound volumes will decrease with ringer volume.

That is completely impractical. If I want notifications silenced, I don't want to jump through ****ing hoops like some dog & pony show, but I suppose technically you're right. As long as you don't mind all those ridiculous steps to get it done. But you can't turn notification volume down without turning ringer volume down.

hey im not htc i didnt decide to make it that way lol. i know its pretty dumb but he wants to be able to silent the sms, email, etc and thats how we have to do it. lol
An alternative solution: Try getting the app Volume Control +, set it so that ringtone volume and notification volume are not linked, and then turn down the volume on notifications all the way.
I haven't tried it, so tell us if it works for you.
I've tried with other volume control apps, and they all show different volumes for a second, but ringer and notification are always the same volume, even if the app shows them as different. I guess I'll give Volume Control+ a shot, but I would be surprised if it made a difference.

Volume Control+ & Audio Manager wont do it either.
Try this app:

Thank you for your responses and support.
I was able to disable the notification sound for gmail and SMS.
However, I cannot find a way to disable the notification sound for calendar events. Does anybody know how to disable event notification sounds?
I think it is crazy that "Silent" is not an option in the default list of notification sounds. It would be the easiest way to disable all notifications in one-step.
Thank you.

[SOLVED] Vibrate Fail

Anybody have any fixes for vibrate that doesn't work in silent mode? I had a feeling this had been failing for a while I've just confirmed it today. My messages app is set to vibrate only in silent mode and the general settings is setup the same. Is this maybe an ATRIX 2 bug? Weird.
The End.
Actually, I can't get it to vibrate in any settings configuration. The only way I know the hardware works is when choosing vibrate within the stock email app settings. It gives off a vibrate but doesn't work when I get an email. Does that make sense?
The End.
Sound Manager (which I love) has global vibrate settings that I overlooked. All is right with the world once again. ;-)
The End.
I had read this earlier and did not have a answer for you. Good to know you figured it out.

Ringtone/Notification Volume Question?

I have tried to search for this but haven't really found any solution. On my previous android phones when I go into work or somewhere that I want my phone on vibrate I would just simply hold the Vol Down key until it goes to Vibrate and everything would be silenced (ringtones, notification tones, etc.) but when I got phone calls, text, etc it would vibrate.
For some reason on this phone when I do this it doesn't control the individual "Notification" volume, so I have go in and manually control that myself. I guess for some people this might be useful to manually control them individually but to just quickly silence the normal things like ringtones & notifications. For me personally it's quite annoying to have to deal with them on an individual basis.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out on this!
I'm also curious about this. I do the same thing. I put my phone on vibrate when I get to work which silences the ringer but if I do something else (I often play ads in Viggle for bonus points) that volume is untouched and must be silenced on its own...
I'm using CM10 currently. Not sure if this differs between roms.

Is there a settings / sound / volumes / link ringtone and notifications check box?
I haven't had either issue. If mine is on vibrate that's all it does, if silenced it's all silenced. Hmm.
Have you guys tried using a widget or the notification toggle?

Thanks Romman0! That option is not available, but just your keyword of "link" enabled me to find an app that does exactly what I needed! :good:
