Is it possible to change the color of the actionbar in Hangouts, mine is completely black and the text is to so i can't see anything on it?

guys is it possible to change my message background color from white to Black and my text color from black to White...sort of reversing it.
On all of my menu's and backgrounds i have this white to red gradient which i want to change it to grey.
I have got UI Tweaker but can't find the option to change this background.
The screen i am on about is:
- Contacts screen where all your contacts are listed
- SMS screen where all the messages are listed
- Soft key menu pop up background
Can anyone suggest the option on UI Tweaker or tell me how to change this colour to a grey?
Is there any way I can change the color of the green smiley message icon on my main screen to a different color? I have a droid incredible, and I used better cut to change the default handcent icon to the green smiley face one, but now I want to change the color of the app icon from green to a different color. Any ideas?? I am not rooted.

Which facet of the theme compiler controls the system's font color, particularly in the notifications panel? Every time I apply a different status bar, the font stays the same color. The text stays a dark gray so I can't use black status bar/notification panels. And that blows.
