CPU overheat?

When playing a certain game, Card ace casino, my phone gets pretty hot, around 60-65 Celsius. My friend says her palm pre (not even an android device) also gets hot playing this game. Is 60-65 too hot (causing damage?) or is it okay? The phone feels pretty hot, but not so hot you can't touch it. The battery isn't as hot, so I don't think it's causing damage to the battery. I did just turn off force gpu rendering to see if it will help, as I heard the GPU causes many of the heat issues. At the moment, while plugged into the wall, it's idling at about 50 C

Is it actually a really graphics intensive game?? Hard to imagine a game like that would be. Maybe it's just horrendously written.
You can try downclocking your cpu/gpu to see if the game is still fluid to play. Or adb into it while playing to see what your loads are (or enable the overlay in the develop section).

That should be normal, thats the problem with phones with metal backs, metal absorbs heat. Underclocking should help a bit but theres nothing wrong with the phone. Happens to me all the time.

No, its not a graphics intensive game at all but I had force gpu rendering ticked in development so i was curious if that was it. Thanks for the reassurance, it just sounded like a high temp to me. When my last sensation overheated to 75 it caused a bright spot in the screen (T-Mobile warrantied it). Don't want that to happen again. It is a very poorly written app, there aren't even hdpi graphics for it but its the only way I can play with my friend. I still reach temps of 60 while playing angry birds though, so it must just be the way the sensation is built.

As time goes on I think all HTC phones overeat and unless they do something about it the overheating will just become more prominent. Turning down your brightness usually helps FYI

What are your CPU and batt temperatures?

Just wanna ask around to check if I'm the only one who feels my phone is a tad bit too hot?
Usually when not charging , the batt temps are around 34-38°C, with the CPU in the range of 38-45°C
When charging the batt goes up to 38°C - 44.7°C or even overheating in the 45-50°C range( ok this would be my fault in using heavier apps)
And the CPU would stay in the range of 40°C - 55°C even without use sometimes

Those temperatures aren't out of the ordinary for this device, that's pretty normal actually. I've had my battery temperature go between 50-55°C fairly regularly, and even as high as 66°C without the phone shutting down (I did cool it down very quickly upon seeing how hot it was though).

Thanks timmaaa, for a moment I thought I was the only one.

One thing I've noticed is that when it hits 40C+, the space below the camera becomes extraordinarily hot! This happens at least once during a work day, especially happens when I don't touch the device.
When this happens, the drain rate just plummets (when I refer to the battery level slope vs. the phone temperature). However, a reboot fixes the heat (and as a result, the drain rate) over a lengthy amount of time.
I've heard of this, but haven't gotten around to trying it successfully:

That shouldn't happen while you're not using the phone. Have you used an app like BetterBatteryStats to identify what's draining your battery?

well this was previously answered by timmaa i had a similar concern cause none of my earlier phone actually felt that warm...
but when i got a green signal that these are normal temperatures, i tried gaming for almost an hour turns out the phone was hot indeed the battery was around 50+ but still the phone dint shut down itself or showed any inconsistency in its functions!
moral of the story.. it happens with everyone.. my friend has a endeavor it also suffers from heating... its so normal that if u search it in google that "why does ht one x get..... "it automatically completes it in with " get hot"(also for the new One).
if you want to cool it down get SET CPU and create a profile in which select battery temperature/cpu temperature at a certain temperature you don't want your phone to exceed and then set the cpu to a lower speed typically till 1026 or 1134...
but again if u feel its necessary cause doing so will obliviously slow down the device.:angel:

Of course its normal. All computers generate heat as power is discharged. Manufacturers are also packing more and more computing power into these small devices, and in general that means more heat (although there are other variables). And every smartphone is designed to deal with the heat differently, so those might be some reasons why your previous phones did not feel as warm.

even i was actually worried before hearing about it being normal from u and timma as well!
its probably htc one x is build that way.
BTW sorry a little off topic since this issue has already been resolved has anyone heard a little rattling sound near the camera region only when the phone is sharked up and down (from screen to back)

Totally normal. Just a moving part in the camera module. Likely related to autofocus as you can sometimes hear a sound when focusing the image.

Does it get hot under normal usage? How much degree celcius are you getting while doing basic task and watching video?

No no heat problems on mine. I believe Sony has introduced new technology for the heat problem.

Nope no signs of phone getting warmer. Played perfectly fine.

My XZ or XZs didn't get hot or even slightly warm, exactly the same deal with this, I would say it runs even cooler!

Because video in link is recorded to 1080/60fps...

The phone is runs cool and somehow has what's turning out to be quite a long battery life

Well, I have been testing my XZP for two now. It is getting warm - definitely. If you put it under extreme load, it´s getting warm, even that warm your palms get a little sweaty - but not uncompfy warm. My LG G4 in comparison got that hot you´d barely wanna touch it.

Look for an app on Google play called "epic citadel" and run it.
Left it going for about 30 minutes and walked around a bit. Phone got Luke warm. Used 8% of the battery.

Any and all computer(s) CPU's will get warm to hot depending on the load. This is the nature of the beast. But mine does not get warm at all the way I use it. My battery life is phenomenal!

Gets warm if you play games for a long period, but nowhere near hot. Also I noticed that, compared to my old phone, the warmth is pretty much the same on the entire back. It's not just hot where the chipset is. All in all, the phone is awesome regarding heath control.

The phone does get hot after a while.
It's cool most of the time, and even if it gets hot, it has great cooling so leaving it alone cools it off in minutes.
As for the temperature, i was doing a stress test the other day (3D) and the phone seems to have capped at 38-39 Celsius degrees (that is slightly higher than body temperature so you can definitely feel it). I didn't check temperature after that though.
It also gets warmer while both watching and shooting at 4K, or high speed (even 1080p though).
However trust me, if you had the Z3 Compact like I did, that phone was a freaking furnace. My battery was affected by it. If want to use my Z3C as a gps in my car, i have to shove it in front of the AC to keep it cool otherwise I'm afraid it's going to evolve into a Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
So this phone is a big big improvement. Though I'd like a phone someday that definitely doesn't get hot. But maybe that's too much to ask.
As I'm typing this, after about 30 minutes of active use, my battery is 35 celsius degrees. From normal use.

A cell phone is just too small to dissipate heat in a very efficient manner. That is why super fast, and powerful, gaming desktop PC's have several fans installed in them along with huge heat sinks sitting right on top of the CPU. The heat sinks are larger than this entire phone! I am an IT Systems Engineer and if you've ever had the opportunity to go to a large data center where servers are housed you will quickly notice the high volume of moving air in the entire area. It can even get quite cold in some data centers all for the same reason... Computers can get very hot! So the fact that OEM's can keep these things as cool as they do, with the CPU housed in such a small, airtight space, is really a marvel of engineering.

Hello , the phone doesn't get hot like my z2 is used to be , I've managed twice to get the phone (on purpose) , but with normal usage 4K video / gaming etc it won't get hot unless you spam many task at hight speed

HTC u11 heating

I just bought the HTC U11 and it's amazing. The only issue is that since I turned it on it feels quite warm in the hands. (I'm not used to that unless it is on heavy usage)
Is this normal? What are the normal temperature ranges? What are the temperature ranges that you are getting when you use it?
My phone seems to be at 36-40 degrees when connected to the internet, not downloading any apps and on light use.
What's the highest temperature at which I should start worrying?

For 20 days I have it, I have yet to experience it warm in hands (no matter what I do). This is current situation:

Maybe it's doing some updates in the background? Like for me, the Google photos in the beginning (of setting up the phone) would be downloading the thumbnails from my account. My phone run pretty cool to touch, even when running Candy Crush... on my Moto X pure it was hot when doing that.

35-40 degrees is standard for me under normal use, with HTC's bundled case and 28ºC room temperature..
The phone only gets a bit warm (not burning hot at all) but I'm worried about the long term effect on battery life.

The phone is hotter on the top and bottom parts of the screen (right above the finger print sensor compared to the middle of the screen.

Thanks! This sounds similar to what I'm experiencing. What's weird is that whenever I use the phone I also get a tingly numb sensation in my hands and arm (which has never happened with any other phone)which is also making me more sensitive to it.

It's still the same case even a day later, so I don't think it's because of any background updates.

The phone is shocking you, maybe? Could be distributing an electric charge through your arm...

Are you used to smaller phones? Phablets like this are a bit awkward to handle unless you have huge hands, maybe that's the reason.

Mine heats up as well. I only play games like Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies and Candy crush. I installed CPU-Z to monitor the temperature. Cpu temperature is around 45-47c whole playing games. It reaches 50c while video recording. While Browsing and reading, the temp is around 38-40c. The area above the fingerprint sensor gets warm first and then the rear (near the camera). Is this normal?

50c is nothing unusual for a htc device. If the device feels warm to touch then everything is normal. If the device feels ice cold and you record those temperatures then you have a problem. The chip will have a thermal cut out switch so if your phone gets too hot it'll switch off. I think it's somewhere around 60c-65c as 70c is the standing temp for boiled water which can cause serious burns to skin, like a cup of coffee or tea.

Put a big heatpipe in our tiny phones?

Hey everybody,
Since I work at a phone repair shop I have access to a lot of little parts and things to do modifications to phones.
Lately I've been thinking of taking a heatpipe from something, and slapping it into my Pixel 3 just to see what kind of difference it may or may not make.
I have a heatpipe from a Samsung S10 already pulled just waiting for install.
But I'm hoping some people can chime in with the temperatures that their stock pixel 3 devices generally reach, so that I can compare after the "mod".
Preferably three temperatures:
Idle
Load (Video)
Load (3d game)
And if your feeling generous a fourth temperature from using a CPU burn in app.
I'm currently using CPU monitor to check my temps, so using that would be prefered so that there are no different temps between apps.
And yes I realize this won't be a perfect test due to what apps everybody may have running in the background, but ballpark figures are better than none at all lol
For reference my temps stock:
Idle: 31°-33°
Load (Video): 35°-37°
Load (3D game): 36°-40°

Ok so the heatpipe has been installed since later in the afternoon yesterday.
The heatpipe has cooler Master thermal paste on either side to help heat transfer.
It sits directly under the motherboard, and runs underneath the battery.
Initially the temps were a little worse of course since the thermal paste had to "set"
But I now have some base figures.
At idle: 25°-31° (this large variance is likely due to background apps updating/running such as Facebook, messenger, email and ambient temperature however it mostly sits around 29°)
Load (Video): 29°-34°
Mostly used YouTube, but watched a movie on Netflix
I did have a 3 hour google duo video call with my favorite lady. After about an hour and a half the cpu hit 47° and stayed between 45°-47°
Fairly hot, but prior to this I've seen it hit 49° on a duo call so I'm not complaining.
Load (3D game):35°-37°
Obviously this one is subjective due to the game, and what settings it's on. Though temps didn't seem to change much.
One thing I have noticed from all this is that cpu monitor also tells you your battery temperature, and weirdly enough the battery has actually gone down in temp 2°-3° from where it would normally sit.
What I mean is that at stock the battery was usually 1°-2° celcius higher than the cpu temp. Where as after this mod it usually runs the opposite 1°-2° lower temp than the cpu.
