re-root problem! - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have gedfied & re-locked the boot loader ages ago on my Xoom WiFi (non US version!) So that I now have stock non rooted JB 4.1.2 on it!
I'm trying 2 re-root it again using this method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1936534 as I am without my laptop @ the present time & this is the only way I can achieve root without it!
The problem I'm having is that every time I enter the xoom's stock recovery to install the temporary custom CWM recovery (from within the above thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979!) the install fails with "installation aborted" every single time
I've downloaded the recovery a thousand times to make sure it's not corrupted & tried various other CWM recoveries for the Xoom WiFi, but to no avail!? Same "installation aborted" every time!
Am I using the wrong temporary CWM recovery??
Can you even use a temporary CWM recovery on a non rooted xoom wifi??
Or is it because the bootloader is locked??
Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone!?

You can not flash anything in the stock recovery other than an official OTA.
you need to unlock the boot loader. To do this you need a pc with fastboot.exe

[Q] Rooting ICS 4.0.3 with recovery 3e?

Hello, i have recently installed the leaked ver of ICS for the skyrocket SGH-I727, unfortunately every root guide pertains to having CWM installed and working? (idk how without root, since you can't boot into CWM recovery without su) or the built in recovery that samsung comes with. When i reach the recovery mode the version is 3e, and i only have my external sd card available, i cannot browse anything within my internal sd card, and also i cannot install the superuser package because it fails the signature check, which i am seeing this common with recovery 3e since nothing will pass the signature check. How then am i supposed to either revert back to recovery 2e or root my device another way? I am pretty sure the zergrush method will not work with ICS.
Thank you.
You have to Odin cwm.
The above is correct you have to flash cwm through Odin

Go to this link (click on the word) and you will get the CWM that you will have to flash through ODIN and then below you will also find the Su files that you will have to flash through CWM to get a complete root on the phone.
After you are done with the root and everything I recommend that you use ODIN to flash CWM Touch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566613... I guess you can flash it to start with as well but since i did the CWM follwed by Su and then after getting root and going on a custom ROM i flashed the Touch I am telling you to do the same.. [Solved] Rooting nexus s GT19023 stock ICS 4.04? [/Solved]

Hello to all respected members
i have a problem... i read all threads and tutorials on rooting nexus s GT19023 but still no success ...
i bought this phone yesterday so I'm new to this... hope someone kind will explain the details to me ...
bootloader status says : unlocked
but still no root on 4.04
clockmod recovery is installed... so another question
can i install custom rom using clockmod recovery without root access? if possible, then after installing custom ICS rom it will then be rooted>?
thanks in advance for all those who took time in helping me root ICS 4.04 stock rom... i really need root access on this rom... i hope i can install custom rom with cm recovery then have root with custom rom
since im new to this, please suggest the best rom and kernel to use i'm open to suggestions
thanks
if you want your phone rooted, flash this in CWM:
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
then, in app drawer should has Superuser icon.
In other way, if you flash custom rom, it's already rooted, so you don't have to flash that file above again...
thanks savantist ... i flashed custom rom and its working awesome... rooted + kernel... thanks for the reply thread is solved
I'm about to root my nexus s for the first time. I'm running Android 4.04. Quick nooby question..will I lose the contacts n data on my phone memory if I root by flashing that superuser file with CWM recovery..If yes then is there a way to create a NAND backup prior to rooting my device.

Flash CWM from fastboot
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img
Place the ClockworkMod Recovery Image in the same folder as fastboot (the /tools folder with the Android SDK folder). Power the Nexus S down, and hold Volume Up & the Power button until booted into the bootloader. Connect the Nexus S to the computer via USB. On the computer, open terminal and run:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img
The ClockworkMod Recovery should now be installed on the Nexus S.
After that boot into recovery using volume up + power button, then selecting recovery. Now in CWM flash
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Reboot and you have root again.
PRAISE the lord! I have been to 7 different sites and followed their instructions to the letter and no ROOT.... I finally found this post and the signed Super user did the trick THANKS SO MUCH!

Put your phone in Download mode. Flash Recovery.tar using Odin.
Put your phone in Recovery mode. Flash Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip from recovery

I didn't needed. The other method posted makes the S7500L keep rebooting into recovery. So, I flashed stock firmware (S7500LVJLH1) with Odin and start over again, but same result.
I'd flashed again stock firmware and just flash recovery with Odin, then just write Superuser from recovery.
I hadn't time to verify if the problem was with boot.tar or with files that are installed in recovery mode by .bat file.

I got my hands on a gt-s7500t yesterday and started xda searching on how to put a custom rom on it. i tried all the methods listed under s7500 to put cwm in it but none worked and whenevr i tried to enter either through pressing vol "+" "-" home and power it never enetred recovery nor it enetered through adb so i moved onto flashing cwm through s7500L guide. so by using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725198 guide, i flased successfully flashed cwm and the phone was stuck in recovery boot loop.
I successfully rooted by through cwm and even installed a custom rom but the dammit phone never came out of the recovery loop, so i went to the next step and downloaded a stock UK vodafone firmware from sam mobile and tried flashing that since australian s-7500t stock rom is unavailable.
Now odin gave a "fail" meesage when it reached to flashing fat.bin, i tried almost 3 different stock roms but same problem. I took the battery out, and tried starting the phone the phone started but no display, so i connected it to samsung kies hoping kies will have a solution, well as it turned out that when i went into emergency firmware recovery, the device screen magically lit up for few seconds and went dark again.
i was baffled so i decided to repeat the process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725198 and flash cwm and boot again. well this time when this completed and phone restarted the phone restarted normally and everything seemed fine, so through adb i went into recovery mode again just to see if all was working fine, but now its the same recovery loop again, have tried wiping the dalvik cache, factory reset and cache reset but nothing happening, HAVENT tried the advanced>recovery reboot> procedure, yet.
now am thinking of two options. first to try install another custom rom and see if that might hellp or since iv got another galaxy ace plus, try to extract the custom s7500T rom out of it somehow, (if u guys can tell me howto, cuz i tried titanium backuo but since it requires root and since i cant get into cwm without using s7500L technique which soft bricks i cant use titanium backup to extract the rom)
Anyone got any idea what to do? is there a pit, bootloader, csc, phone etc files that i can flash through odin rather than flashing a complete package through PDA?
or can i just flash boot.img from a stock rom using PDA and you guys think that will solve the problem>?
Android System Recovery (3e) problem

hi guys!

is there a guide to do it? do you know where i can find the stock rom?

This method don't erase your data, just write a custom recovery and add SuperUser app and bin to your system.
The best method to unroot is installing stock firmware package.

Thanks. So does installing stock firmware not write any files to the data partition of android? What about the apps that are included in stock firmware sms app, contacts, call logs, maps etc, will those apps data be lost with installing stock firmware?

The recovery.img you have is larger than the stock firmware recovery.img. Does this write more data somewhere?

I've been having the exact same problem as you with my S7500L. Boot loop error after installing custom roms. I can, however, install CWM and obtain root without problems.
I really don't understand how the s7500L rom guys developed them... how did they get out of the boot loop.
I tried replacing the boot.img from the custom ROM with one from a stock rom... nothing.

[Q] Upgrading to new OTA update with rooted phone and TWRP

Hello everyone. I'm somewhat of a noob still and I would appreciate any help you could give me.
I'm trying to install the new OTA update that came out today but I'm having issues. I have a rooted One S with TWRP recovery, and everytime I try to install the OTA update it brings me to the TWRP recovery screen. I'm pretty sure this is because I don't have stock recovery. I've even tried "unrooting" with Voodoo Over the Air root, but it keeps bringing me to the TWRP recovery screen.
I rooted my phone with the All-In-One root kit, and I really don't want to lose everything on my device (or have the pain in the butt of restoring everything). Is there another way? Or is there an easy way to reinstall the stock recovery with the AIO kit? I know the AIO kit has the option to install other recoveries, but I'm not sure where to get the stock one.
Please help! I really want to upgrade.
Thanks so much for your help!

Check this out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907564
Scroll half way down and you get a list of different steps you may have to do in order to get it done.
Most include installing "OTA RootKeeper" from GooglePlay
Steps vary from how your phone is setup. Stuff like do you have Root, Custom or stock Mod, or CWM or stock recovery. Check it out. I'm trying it now.
(adding more to it so I don't double post.)
I tried the method with Root Keeper, it doesn't seem to work for me. It also seems as though a few others are having the same issue. Someone recommended use an RUU to go completely stock, therein losing all your data unless you back all that stuff up.
I'm going to avoid an RUU at all costs, I hate having to reset up my phone. Plus I just got a XOOM I need to work more on and get setup so I don't want to put more time on the phone than I have to as to take away time from my XOOM.
Let me know if you run into any success! PM if you need to.

problem flashing roms on moto g xt1032

Hi, I'm new to flashing roms and after installing CWM 6.0.4.7 on my xt1032 and rooting whenever i try to flash a rom it gets stuck in the boot animation. I have tried CM 11 Carbon rom and paranoid android. I don't know if I'm using the wrong GAPPS or what. Please help.
Gapps are not the problem:the same thing was happening to me. The real problem is the bootloader: if you are on kitkat, you have to revert to stock jelly bean (4.3), install custom recovery (for JB), root and flash the custom rom you desire. That's the only way that worked for me.

Go back to Stock and start from Scratch.
As long as you can enter fastboot you should be fine.

Try this, when you get to the broken android follow the instructions in the link below for "external reset" this will reset your phone.
https://motorola-global-portal.cust..._detail/a_id/97329/p/30,6720,9050/action/auth
if that fails just flash a stock 4.4 image with fastboot using one of the guides.

Yes thank you so much I'm back on 4.4.2 You guys are great
hello everyone
I have a question about PaulOBrien superboot root method (look in modaco forum the moto g root method 1).
I have a 16GB Moto G and updated to Kitkat via OTA.
yesterday I used the method 1 (superboot) on windows 7, to root my phone, and run it for the first time and ended on a black screen with green bars (supposedly normal). I power off the phone and turned on and load kitkat normally and noted that the phone was not rooted.
y tried the method for a second time and have the same results (ended on a black screen with green bars), but when kirkat launched, on the initial screen i saw a message "System UIDs Inconsistent. UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable." and the system didn't respond.
I performed a factory reset via stock recobey and kitkat showed the same message but let me in the "i´m feeling lucky button" worked this time. there I noticed that my device was now rooted but non app was able to access the internal memory due to some r/w permissions as I think, because when I try to copy files to the phone via USB cable, I get have the same denial, even whit ADB push i get the same message of permissions denial.
I need a way to solve this because in this actual stage the phone works but the apps have like no access to the memory making them unusable,
for example i cannot take a picture, or download a file, for some reason all google apps not work or force close every time.
I need a way to upload a .img file to the phone in order to perform a recobery or to make a fresh install via fastboot, donn't know how to make the phone let me wrhite files on it. :crying:
(note: sorry for my bad English)

As long as you can enter the bootloader you haven't bricked anything!!! so don't you worry!
I have two questions: when did you download the stock rom, did you check the MD5 ??? Are you sure that it wasn't a bad download ?
Additionally: are you sure that you have downloaded the appropriate ROM? Did you try to flash any other ROM?

I am having the same issue. I got this xt1032 after it was OTA upgraded to Lollipop 5.0.2 and I downgraded it to KitKat 4.4.4 Stock. Now I'm also getting stuck on the boot animations on every Custom ROM I try to flash on it.
Does anyone know if having the bootloader upgraded due to the Lollipop update has anything to do with this? mine is at Ver. 41.18.
EDIT: I was finally able to flash after Formatting Data from Recovery. Keep in mind this will basically delete everything from the internal storage and you need to put everything back there manually. Always make sure you backup your info/apps/music/fotos before Formatting Data.
