Android Wear + iOS app - Wear OS General

Hey guys,
If Apple will not release iWatch this year, I'll buy Moto 360. But I saw that Android Wear is not working with iOS. So after googling information and looking into THIS thread I came up with an idea.
We have Facebook API ( and another ones, why not ), what if try to make application for Android Wear and iOS ( I am not talking about publishing it into App Store ) which syncs with Android Wear. Umm, I think it is possible, why not. What are your suggestions?

Well, during a certain time (maybe it's still the case), Android phone weren't able to connect by bluetooth to an Iphone to make any file transfert, etc.
Just because Apple put security on the bluetooth to avoid non IOS devices to work with them.
So, even if Google wanted to make Android wear compatible with IOS, I'm sure that Apple wouldn't allow them to do it.

Perhaps not officially, but the community could absolutely develop something like this. Hell they already did it for the galaxy gear. Just standard notifications would be fine for me.

Actually, Google has refused to open the Wear protocol, which puts them in the at least as evil as Apple camp.

Isn't Android wear open source like Android is ? Or this protecol is "secured" in the play store services (that is closed source) ?
But yea, if they refused to open the Wear protocol, they are in the "bad" camp too. :/

Play services. And the only parts of Wear I've seen opened is the kernel (which they're forced to open) and core stuff (which is the same as in other androids). Nothing remotely wear specific such nor user facing programs.
Not a good moment to be looking down at Apple.

[Q] Samsung Smart TV - is it android/bada based?

I've recently got Samsung Smart TV with Smart Hub application. It has fully functioning browser (with flash!) and Apps Market.
I'm wondering if anyone knows, what's inside that TV. I've read it's linux, but I'm wondering if its Android or Bada based.
Nah I doubt that, android isn't aimed for tv and google has their "google tv" os already so think that would be a bit conflicting.
Samsung probably have some own thing running on them.

Sony Smartwatch 1 compatibility with Android apps

Hello,
A few days ago I won Sony Smartwatch 1, and I don't know what to do with that device now. I don't have Sony smartphone (I use LG Nexus 4), but it won't be a problem. I'd just like to know, if apps like these available on AndroidPolice (I can't post links, for example - facebook messenger, some communication apps, GPS-supported apps etc.) designed for Android Wear will be compatible with my Smartwatch, or is it rather useless device? Maybe you've got any links to apps for that smartwatch?
Thanks!

The SW1 is useless. You can just sell it and save up and get the SW2

Thanks for your answer. In fact I don't need any smartwatch and just got it for free. I though it will run some fancy apps. That's all. Thank you :highfive:

If you already have it, just pair it with your android phone and install the necessary software for it by Sony (Smart Connect and smartwatch app) to your smartphone. Within those apps, you can actually search for the apps available for the smartwatch like gmail, call handling etc...See if they are fancy enough for you

Voice input solution needed for Google-free LineageOS 15.1 (Samsung Galaxy S7)

Hi, I've recently set up my new S7 with LineageOS, and I'm determined to not install GAPPs or Google anything on this device. I've been able to find almost everything I need, but I'm still missing speech-to-text functionality.
I installed AnySoftKeyboard from F-Droid because it said it did speech-to-text in its description; however, when I attempted to use STT on the keyboard, I got a popup error message that said, "Voice Input is not installed on your device." The box had a button for installing this feature, but I suspect it pointed to a location on the Google Play store, since it offered to open F-Droid or Uptodown, neither of which had the needed app.
What can I do to obtain STT on this device without getting entangled with Google?
Even if you are using Los there are still Google closed binaries on your device. There is no way of getting away form Google with Android. Not completely.

Fine, sure, now do you have any helpful suggestions about TTS?

The only one I know that works on Android (was origianly made to work on feature phones.) is controlled by Google or Apple. There is no real open source free, none tracking, setup.
You could look up the Google less preoject and see if they got it working but last I heard most abonoded the project because it just wasn't worth it.

TTS and SST is bound to google, you can't download it from anywhere, and even if you download it, it won't work without google services, you must install Gapps (Nano), hope it'll help
Seems like this is a dead end, for now, but I found lots of things in the works. I expect that we'll be seeing viable alternative STT services in a few years. Google, Microsoft, and Apple are always going to be at the front in this sort of thing because of their budgets, but open source will catch up.
This may be the reason I get into android app development... local, although not as good, STT is possible, I wrote some stuff in Python to do this on an embedded system. You just have to train, or purchase voice models. There are also many cloud based solutions other than Google at this point, so I don't believe this to be technologically impossible.

Thanks for the feedback. I've actually retired the S7 for a OP 7T, and I'm pretty much resigned to Goggle STT for now.

Finally, with the flashing of my phone, my life is 100% Google free. Not even using MicroG. #GoogleYou'reFired. I'll just be doing without STT until I figure out a solution.

Until I find a satisfactory alternative to Google's email, calendar, contacts, and cloud storage solutions, I'll still be here. Not that I'm looking right now...but one day. Maybe I'll try MicroG on my next phone. Maybe Elon Musk will roll out a linux-based, fully open source phone and supporting systems. Here's hoping!

Yeah, I'm using the synology nas and suite of apps. They are pretty OK. The sacrifices we make to opt out of data mining and the selling of our data to third parties... I currently have no plans to use microg. If elon makes a phone, I'd buy it, hopefully it would be better and more open.

Considering how closed source all of elon projects are I very much doubt he'd bring out an open source android competitor, probs call it the xphone, pay to remove the integrated ****coin miner and some more for the ability to use his new 5g networking but hey maybe it'll have fart sounds as notifactions

Android TV stick without Google account

Hey
Is there a Android TV stick without Google account? Maybe some Chinese stuff? What buying options do I have If I not wish to create a Google account.

Just buy amlogic device and don't use Gapps. Never tried it but micro-g would probably work as a Gapps replacement for atv devices.
I think that all TV that does not have an Android system is free to force you to have a google account

From link:
How To Use Android TV Box Without Your Google Account
Long story short, you can’t use an Android TV box without a Google account. There used to be loopholes for getting around this, but with each update to their operating system Android has been closing those loopholes and it is now impossible.
Is this true?

Question Google Wear OS or Galaxy Wear?

Hello
What's the major difference a user would notice of using Wear OS and not Galaxy Wear?
Would things like Google Assistant work?

Likewise. I just bought a watch4 and I'm a bit confused. Should I pick one or the other or use both apps?
If you need Google Assistant to be integrated you need Wear OS else you are limited by Bixby on the older Galaxy Wear watches

I get just over half way and it stops, I only have one Google account.
I had to select the pair all devices and available Bluetooth devices popped up, I then selected the watch4
