Hi,
I absolutely love this player, I find when I'm streaming 720/1080p video over WIFI, that it'll play great for a bit and then get all jittery/sluggish. I determined this is related to the buffering because if I then hit pause, wait for 10-15 seconds and play again, it'll be perfect again until it catches up with the buffer again. Is there anyway to increase or double whatever it is buffering to makes these hiccups less? Even if I had to behind the scenes and modify a config/text file somewhere, I'd be glad to do it if told how. I'd be just fine pausing a movie and waiting for it to get enough ahead of itself but MX Player only seems to buffer a limited amount and stop? Any feedback to improve this would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Network playback buffering is a known issue, and has been for a while now. It's something that the developer is working on.
In fact, it's the first item on the Feature Requests and Bugs list: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/sticky-running-list-feature-requests-t2718297

It's been a known issue for over four years now - will there be an update? Or does anyone know of a player that can buffer network streams?

Networking playback performance will be improved in the major update v1.8
Can you provide a feedback on the 1.8 release date?
I really need this... I can't play any videos because my internet sucks and the player only buffers a maximum of ~30 seconds of video. Even if i pause the video and try to watch it 3 hours latter it wont work...
Thanks

Yes, this is the most anoying issue for me. When watching some youtube videos the app doesnt save the videos in cache.

So RockPlayer has almost never failed me - would play anything I threw at it.
Last night I tried to play a video, which is a 720p AVI - approx 150MB, and it lagged like a beast.
I updated to the new "Rockplayer Lite" - same issue. Tried several different video players in the market with the same results.
Is this a hardware limitation of the SNS or Android as a whole? Or have I just not found the right app?
I've been experiencing lag/jitter in pretty much all multimedia (videos/games) since the last Gingerbread update. It's nothing horrible though. I'm not sure if I installed an app or a widget that is having an impact on my device or if something changed. It was a lot smoother before the last update for me. *shrug*
Hm it's tough to discern then I guess if I'm having an issue like you or that this particular file is just too much for the apps to handle. That's why I like Rockplayer - no need to convert anything.
If you have a pretty powerful computer and you're always on wifi or have good 3G/4G (unlimited) you could try the new Plex app and stream all your movies to your phone.

Will always lag until we can get proper video codecs implemented into android...then you can run rockplayer in hardware decoding mode and will run/look perfect
ATM you're running in software mode for anything other than mp4

Hi,
Can you please guide me on how I can implement video codec in my SNS so that I can play 720p without lagging
I used to use Rockplayer and it was pretty good, but on my SNS it barely held up while playing a 480p mkv(matrosaka) videos. I'd say try moboplayer. It's definitely better, and it even can read and display embedded subtitles if your watching a movie/show in a different language. Plus the interface is so much cleaner. And best of all, it's free in the market.
It can barely play 720p mkv and sometimes freezes, but when it does play it the video and audio are right on the mark. I haven't tried 720p avi but from what I've seen, it's harder to play mkv than it is to play avi.
Try it out.

with Rock Player you can use it to play 720p using hardware decoding.. no lag but no audio is being outputted
try mobo player, i could manage playing all HD formats without lagging.

Plex is great, plays everything but the quality is kinda disappointing :/ not as good as when played via UPnP etc.
+1 for MoboPlayer.
Rockplayer with hardware decoding solved the problem. Will try the mobplayer today
Thanks for the reply

I think you should try setting the bitrates for 3g, wifi and remote wifi manually.
Here are mine, bare in mind I have a 35/35 FIOS connection.
3g= 720kbps or 1.5Mbps -depending on my connection at the time.
Remote Wifi = 2Mbps
Local Wifi = 3-5Mbps
I am on the beta team for Plex. As of right now the Auto feature is for lack of a better word DUMB.
I can watch a high bitrate 720p file over remote wifi on my Xoom and it looks nearly perfect. There are a few quality issues but nothing that kills it.
NOW if you have a file thats 720p or 480p that WILL play natively on your Nexus, you can turn on Direct Play and Direct Stream in the settings. If you have enough bandwidth to support it, the file WILL play without transcoding, thus no quality loss at all.
I've been testing out my new ATI and I noticed that when I stream video from a SMB share to the Infinity, every few minutes, the video will stop playing for a second or two and then start up again fine. Does this have something to do with the I/O performance? I don't think that it is the WiFi because the loading bar in the player fills up to the end and I still get the pauses. Thanks for your input in advance!

...BS Player
This behavior h happens in a few apps. I've seen it in MX player, XBMC and the bundled MyNet software.
BS Player
I had similar problems with MX and switched to the BS Player. It has better integration with the hardware acceleration on the Infinity. I don't have any jitter or pausing with 1080p video now.
Using MXPlayer v1.9.6 on Marshmallow.
Others on reddit and I have noticed that when you pause a streaming video and restart it, it plays a few seconds and then the video ends. I think it might be a buffering issue.

Kindly provide a bug report. Without a proper bug report, it's very difficult to identify the issue.
I have the same issue. Statement above, is clear. When streaming, if you press pause, MX PLAYER will try to Load; Stop; and End Playback.
Version 1.9.10(ARMv7 neon)
Running on Firestick (version 2, 4 gigs available)
mx player, Standard config.
Mp4 file ~500MB 720p max.(can be smaller or much larger makes no difference)
having trouble making a bug report because it is on a Firestick, however I did not always have this problem. Any help to point me and others in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, please.

Without a bug report or log, it's very difficult to understand the actual issue. The issue might be with the server. When you resume the video, MX Player will try to reconnect. If the reconnection is refused, then MX Player will fail to play & close the playback.

I'm having a problem with ...I'm having a problem with the video taking forever to load, then when it loads and buffer, plays for a little bit then begins pause and buffer then play, and so on..This happens the WHOLE time.I'm wondering, what do I need to do in order to get the buffering to stop so I may watch the video in full?

1) your Wi-Fi connection is to slow, you also can't be too far away, WiFi it's being blocked by something metal(tv, cable receiver, pc, speakers, giant fish tank?,...)
2) your internet is being used by other members of the household
3) your running out of RAM or trying to stream to high of quality than your device can handle(use "clean master" to boost your performance before streaming)
4)AND MOST LIKELY, the server you are streaming from is slow, choose diff server, better compression size(e.g. 850MB instead of 2GB) or lower your quality choice 480/720p instead of 1080 or above.
5) your internet connection is slow from ISP e.g. 1500mbps instead of 5000mbps+.
^^WOULD RECOMMEND performing a internet speed test, to see where you stand on most of the above^^
I hope that helps you Nazim. In my case it has always been a slow server. And clean master helps alot if I'm using a low ram tv box/smart TV.
I have noticed that after 12 min of watch a show with a playback speed of 1.5 sound and subtitles start to fall behind with the video, even though i am using HW+ mode. All setting are on default except for codex with i downloaded from xda forum.

Hi,
Can you please provide more information about the device and file you are playing. In general, Audio and Subtitle may go out of sync when video lags. It may happen if you increase the speed beyond hardware capabilities.

Hi,
I just bought a Philips 32PFS6402 Android TV (version QM164E.).16.102.24).
Unfortunately the default video player, didn't have the possibility to adjust the subtitles, so I had to look for alternatives. Your MX player was highly recommended and the features I was looking for seems to be in place (remember where you stopped a video stored on USB and continue from that point on the next time. And adjust the timing of the subtitles while playing the video.)
so far so good. But unfortunately, not all video's are shown correctly. For some video's I only see a black screen. There is audio and ther are subtitles, but the screen stays black.
The codec info for the specific file:
MPEG-4 Video (XVID)
1920*800
Strange thing is, I can play the same movie using the default player.
Any suggestions?
thanks in advance,
Matthijs

First of all, thanks for your reaction. How do I collect a bug report? I didn't see any options for that.
For you info. I tried Kodi today as well and experienced the same problems. No video image, while there is sound and there are subtitles. I find it to be very strange, since the same movie does play in the default player (no idea which one that is).
Today the movie I tested yesterday on MX Player, resulted in some kind of freeze. no response what so ever.
thanks,
Matthijs

Based on the information you have shared, it seems that your device's hardware-accelerated decoders are buggy or broken. Request you to tap on the HW button on the playback screen and check other decoders. It may work for you.
