Afternoon,
Yesterday I restarted my phone and I noticed I got an option I hadn't gotten before. I can't remember exactly but it asked me if it wanted to start up using greenify or Google. I wasn't sure which to pick but as my finger hovered over to touch the Google option the greenify option was chosen.
Now, I've noticed, that when I Swype my for Google Search on the home screen, the screen turns off.
Any help on this?

Yes, navigate to settings > App manager > Greenify (may have to use search function to find this) > clear defaults. That should clear the default action from Greenifying your phone instead of giving you the option to do both. If you don't want to even have the option popup again and you only want Google search then just select it and tap always when you swipe up.

I just picked up a Galaxy note 10.1 since the price was right, and my G-tab is losing it's stamina.
it got a OTA download of 4.12 and all was good after a looooong time.
The Problem:
I have no idea how to get at the launcher's settings. (you know, like the ADW Launcher has ADW Settings)
every time I change a page a voice says page one of four or two of four etc.
Also if I open the apps drawer, there she goes again! I have searched all over the place and cannot find how to shut that woman up!
any help would be very much appreciated,
Thanks
The Driving mode is not on, and talkback is off too.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just go to settings -- accessibility --- talkback
if this helps there is a thanks button

Sounds like an issue that comes up frequently--driving mode has been turned on, hence the voice. That setting is in the general notification settings, in the top horizontal scrolling bar. You can also get to it to turn it off under settingg-personal-language and input-text to speech output. As for launcher settings, you may want to download a launcher off play.

Does anyone know of a way to force OK Google to be always on? There are tutorials through google, but they either seem to be for non-samsung phones or outdated. I moved from iPhone to Galaxy and underestimated how much I would miss "Hey Siri". Running Superman ROM if that makes a difference.

I already checked that and there wasn't an option to turn it on @ any screen. It only seems to work when its charging. It's okay though. With Xposed, I was able to tweak it so I can long press and activate the voice search. Not quite what I wanted, but close enough for now.
Thanks for the reply though.

If you go to google voice settings and tap OK Google Detection you should have these options, only From the Google App is on by default the other are off, turn on From any Screen and you can use OK Google from any open screen, turn on Personal Results as well and you can wake the phone from a locked screen you don't have to tap anything, these should be standard options, I checked back on my old S5 and they are the same.

Now that I have Superman installed, I no longer have those options. All I have is the first one to turn it on. I've heard it runs down the battery a ton anyway.
Ok So pretty simple request. I want to activate "Ok Google" using the home button just like S Voice or Siri behaves. With Google set as the Device Assistance App a long press of the home button pulls up the google app, then I have to click the mic button. Or I have to activate it by saying "Ok Google" which is super annoying. I've searched everywhere for a solution and the only thing I found was the following:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQue...t_possible_to_activate_ok_google_with_a_home/
Which doesn't work at all on the S7. A long press of the home button opens the Launcher App which asks me to select google. Basically adding a 3rd step.
I'd appreciate any help!
I use the Google Now Launcher and I had that ability. I will have to play around with my settings to get it back because I installed Labs so when I hold my home button down it waits for me to say a contact name and it calls them. I will have to get back with you on that when I can get access to my phone.
Ok, maybe the new version of the launcher doesn't support that. Now long press doesn't do voice search, it instead shows Now on Tap, but different than what I remember.

Yup.. I still haven't found a workaround. Having the mic always on to detect "OK Google" seems to be a waste of battery.
Hopefully a solution comes up. Thanks for trying.

I have found a solution that works great! I just tested it myself.
Download this app here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dynamicg.homebuttonlauncher&hl=en
You'll want to open it up, select the 3 dots, and then select add.
Add Voice Search, then do the same steps but remove whatever else was there by default.
Now if you're on marshmallow, which I assume you are, then you'll need to go to Settings -> Applications -> Default Applications -> Phone assistance app
And change it to Home Launcher
Give that a try and let me know if that works for you.

You are the man!!!! This worked.. "Auto Start mode" had to also be selected but this finally got the job done.
It wasn't perfect at first. for some reason the responses to my questions where not audible.
For Example.. If I held the home button, the voice prompt shows up and I say "What's my next appointment?". It displayed the calendar item but didn't read back the result. If I activated it saying "OK Google" and asked the same question, I was shown the response and it read back to me. "You're next calendar entry is tomorrow at 7am...".
I tried it again a few more times. Now it seems to be working properly with the home button.
You've made my day. Wish I could buy you a pint of beer remotely.
Cheers!
A simple thanks is plenty, I've got all the beer I need in my fridge. Lol
Was looking for a solution as well. Works great. Thanks.
With Google Now there was an option to turn it off. I haven't been able to find that option for Google Assistant.
Edit: To be clear, I selected "No Thanks" in the Assistant settings screen. However, if I say "OK, Google" it still takes me to the settings screen, indicating it's still listening.

Check out these screenshots. Hopefully this helps you. One turns off the okay Google thing and one turns off the whole Google assistant.

Either I don't have those screens or I'm looking in the wrong place. Where did you find those options?

No. The closest I can get to is a screen saying "Meet your personal Google Assistant" with a "Continue" button. If I tap continue, I get a list of permissions and the options "Yes I'm In" or "No Thanks"

Ooooh. You never turned it on in the first place. You are still on the setup. I set mine up. From there you can turn it off.

Don't feel bad VM--I'm in the same boat with you. I have zero interest in/desire for Google Assistant. This may sound weird, hut speaking interrupts my thought process. When I type, I can continue to think. So, more. often than not, I'd much rather type than speak.
So, when I finally got around to the installing it for the second time, (The first time was a big fail because I wanted NO part of it.) I got yo a point where it wanted to link to my other devices. (I think. It's been a while, but I think that's what it wanted to do. For some reason, I keep thinking that it wanted to turn on Google Assistant on all of my devices. ) That got a big fat "No thanks". (I knew I should have registered that device with a new account!) "No thanks" was a legitimate option, at that point. I thought the installation would proceed on that device--the one where it was being installed. Instead, the installation process terminated.
Apparently, my installation isn't completed either, so I cannot turn it off. To make matters worse, it's occupying a ton of space on a device that has little to spare.
There are at least a couple ways to get to the Google settings, and the following is one way.
Settings > Google > Search
My notes suggest Settings in that area previously went to the first screen posted, without first setting up Assistant, but the v8.0 version from November 2017 kept going to Assistant setup on my phone. After installing the v8.1 update from December 2017, it's again possible to turn off Assistant, without first setting it up.
Settings > Google > Search > Settings (only first time went to Assistant setup) > Pixel > Google Assistant - Off
The second screen posted is located here.
Settings > Google > Search > Voice > "OK Google" detection
Assistant needs a bunch of settings to run, so if the items in the following are turned off or paused Assistant can't be used. My phone seemed to use a bit less battery in standby with Assistant turned off and these items disabled, but it's rather minimal, maybe around 3% less battery per day on Android v7.
Settings > Google > Search > Accounts & privacy > Google activity controls
Changing the following will alter what happens when holding the home button. I have mine set to call android.intent.action.VOICE_ASSIST using Tasker.
Settings > Apps & notifications > Default apps > Assist & voice input > Assist app

Just in case you don't know, when you invoke Google Assistant you can hit the little keyboard icon (rectangle with six dots) on the left and then type into it instead of speaking. Just FYI in case the speaking thing is the only reason you don't want to use it.
Fix the 'Ok Google' command with screen off
Add the KnockOn or Double Tap to wake/sleep feature
Two things that have really annoyed me are:
1) not being able to use the 'Ok Google' command when the screen is off and not plugged in (I use tasker and a bunch autoapp plugins to do a bunch of commands)
2) I've fallen in love with the KnockOn or double tap feature (coming from an LG V20) to wake and turn off my screen.
This being said I think I have found a solution to them both. KnockOn - Screen On / Off by Jawomo
Steps:
1) Download and install the app from the play store.
2) Configure and set all of the app permissions
3) Supposedly it works from the homescreen and lockscreens to turn the display off but the only area I was able to get it to work was down in the quick launcher section to turn the screen off (I just removed the last icon to the far right). Basically it just puts up a completely black screen so it should not drain any battery from screen use.
4) I turned off the Always On Display (AOD) If you don't it does this little stutter while the AOD comes on and the KnockON covers it.
5) If you have 'Ok Google' to be always listening then now while the screen is off (or covered in a black screen as is the case here) you will still be launched into the Google Assistant.
Hope this helps. If I get time I'll try to make a video of this to explain it better.
It keeps the phone from sleeping so it should drain battery like crazy. I wasn't even able to get ok google to work even WHILE charging =( What's up with that.
You can sign up for Google and Google play services beta, and you will be able to use ok Google with screen off once the apps update to the beta versions
Why don't you use force press the home button to wake device??? Problem solved.
Use nova launcher and configure double touch anywhere on the home screen to lock the device. Another problem solved!
Btw, I do not use ok google so i can't solve that problem
