Deleted "\" - damn wierd issue. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So this is what happened to me today.
I pluged my phone to my windows pc, i had to upload a file to flash a new rom.
Inside the internal memory folder i found a file named " \ ", 0 bites, no information.
I accidentally tried to delete it, and stopped the process a second before. Now i have literally lost every single file from my phone lol
I still have all my apps, and everything works fine, but i don't have anymore songs, photos, pdf, zip, or whatever.
If the files are still there? Yes, for sure they are there, but my phone have lost their "address".
I don't think there is anything i can do about it now (ideas are always welcomed), a part for enjoyin my "new" 20GB of free space LoL

Files probably aren't there, you deleted a symlink or something.
Don't delete something if you don't know what it is.

Yep..i thought it the exact moment i did it. That's why i interrupted the process while it was still going.
The real question is: why for the bless of God i had that strange file there? I'm still surprised to see how this deleted all my files, without touching anything else o.o i have "lost" 15gb of files, in the time of a blink (press delete-> stop it)
Ps. i haven't lost anything important, just junks.

If you delete "storage" in Windows it deletes everything too. Don't know why it still deleted after you pressed cancel right away, though.

I didn't deleted storage lal
I was using my phone as a mass storage device, but it never showed me a blank file named " \ " before today. It wasn't a folder , or something releated to the storage. It was just a blank file lol
Ps. a recovery tool was able to find them all. Just some are imparied

Um, what?
If you're asking which one to buy, it's your own decision, and no one here will give you an unbiased opinion. Nor is it anything related to this thread.

[Q] Removing CDFS partition without rooting?

Is it possible to remove the CDFS partition (Verizon Mobile) without rooting the phone?
It is the company's phone, so no rooting for me but I would love to be able to use the TB as a USB stick on my JVC KD-AVX77 in the car. Right now it doesn't see any music and I suspect that's because of that CDFS partition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I'd like to know this as well...
Bumping this up. Even if it requires root, would still like to know how to do it period, as I can't seem to find any info anywhere.
you have to delete a file and you need to be rooted to do so because it is a system file.
/system/etc/cdrom.iso is the file that needs to be deleted

I dont recall offhand...it isnt that big....more annoying than how big it is
The ISO is only about 6mb. However, after removing it, the CD drive still shows up when connected, just with no data. Any thoughts, or is this something a kernel dev/CM7(lol down with Sense!) is going to have to take care of?
In the programming menu the option was removed. Take the Incredible for instance, you could disable it, but not so on the TB for now. Unless someone figures out a way to change it Im out of ideas, but removing it worked for me.

Well at least removing it gets rid of the autorun prompt. Good enough for now, and I'm sure the CM team will figure it out.
Root here. Didn't work for me. I can't mount my sd card through my phone after deleting that file.
I did flash adrenalyn's 1.9 kernal some days before which may be the cause of my having a different result from others in this thread however I think it's a good idea to DO A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE ATTEMPTING!
or at least rename the file with a .old or .bak extension, whatever ya like... luckily I have the backup from before the kernal flash
would logcat be able to track down what's being accessed while the phone is mounting volumes while enabling disk mode?
Rather than removing it, I replaced it with an ISO of my own that has the Tether for Android setup exe and dmg, and a few other misc files I might need

[Q] How can I prepare a Xoom for sale?

I have a Xoom 3g (USA) that I'm about to put on craigslist; anyone know how to reset it so that it's stock (no personal info). I know that there's files on there that are not deleted if you reset it, I'm looking for something that will reset ALL of the files back to stock (like you can do with an iPhone...).
***edit: Sorry, probably should have put this into Q+A... If an admin wants to do so, that would be OK...

Technically you should have put it lol..
but before you get flamed... this is how:
factory reset and hook it up to the computer then delete every folder/file off it.

I don't think I can delete "every file and folder" can I? Won't that mess up the Xoom?

no, you dont have access to files that are crucial to the xoom functioning correctly through the pc. If u dont want to mess with adb and img files then do my method. It's the same way like cellphones, you can delele everything off your sd card and the phone will still function.
I just checked nothing of importance is on the /sdcard folder so u can delete away. You don't have access to /sys or folders like that.
Yea thats another simple way to do it. Just remove all synced accounts and user installed apps, go into the sdcard folder and clean up the cache and program data folders there.
same question
I did all of the options available in recovery, and there is still data on the unit.
0/
legacy/
obb/
is my file structure.
I can't believe there's no way to wipe this thing (like new from the store) so I can pass it along.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I'm good to use ADB or fastboot if needed.

actually, that doesn't do it. I bought a LTE xoom from a UK buyer who did that, and when I installed MXplayer, I was greeted with some lovely videos...
best thing to do to reset a xoom for resale is described in the link below:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-restore-and-relock-a-motorola-xoom-tablet/
this will completely reset the device to factory standards.

Unlocking/relocking the bootloader should do it. You could do fastboot commands to wipe each partition I guess too.

unknown file on my Nexus 5 - data_VZ8E_S5FS0_0FQ7A.bin

Hi,
There's this .bin file that keeps showing up in my Nexus 5 storage named "data_VZ8E_S5FS0_0FQ7A.bin". I don't know where it comes from or what it is, or even if it's safe. I've tried deleting it before and it just comes back. I've done a full wipe of my phone too and when I install all the apps I used before the wipe it just appears again.
Can someone help me out? Thanks!
If it keeps coming back it is an important file it prob doesent affect performance or anything else It would be best to leave it alone

Open the apps one at a time until you find the culprit.

If you open the file with notepad++
you will see

What's with MTP driver and device cache?

I'm on stock ROM and having no end of problems with this. This is just like google, introduce some new feature but don't bother fully testing it. The phone appears to maintain an internal cache of the files and folders on the phone, which sometimes is out of date. It reports this list to the your computer when you connect it. Several times now I've tried to copy off or backup select folders that had files I needed and the cache was out of date so Windows Explorer didn't know there was a file there to request a copy of.
1. why is the device internal storage cache out of date?
2. how do I force it to update to have the CORRECT list of files that you can see in Root Explorer if you go there on the phone itself
3. how do I ensure I've actually grabbed all the files I told it to grab?
4. Is there any other solution for this?
5. Has anyone else experienced this or am I an idiot?
OK well I guess I'm going to answer my question here, this is a known bug
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=38282
A workaround is:
Clear the "Media Storage" app's data
Use the SDrescan app to force an update
I can't stress how retarded Google is for not fixing this.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13737261/nexus-4-not-showing-files-via-mtp
SDRescan app has 500k downloads. seriously. w.t.f.
my. gosh. MTP is completely malfunctioning. I selected 5 folders to copy, it copied .thumbnails from ONE and then just gave up. Won't copy any more.
This is complete garbage. How am I supposed to backup anything?
I'm copying each folder manually now until I run into a problem folder and divide and conquer, but it won't even let you queue up multiple copies at once. What a joke.

Big file lost in system partition, how to find?!

Hello, i got a big issue, not 1st time it happens so i'd like to find out what's wrong, since the device doesn't have any working custom recovery and i don't wanna loose all! The issue is : while trying to uninstall/reinstall some game, the obb file is, for a reason i ignore, lost in the system/cache partition. I can know this simply because the free space isn't back and in storage, the "system" is much bigger than usual. The question is: HOW CAN I FIND the location of this damn file? Android experts that are around will probably be able to tell me this..
I already found the bastard! It's in mnt/shell/emulated/obb, if someone's ever got same issue
