I have a Xoom 3g (USA) that I'm about to put on craigslist; anyone know how to reset it so that it's stock (no personal info). I know that there's files on there that are not deleted if you reset it, I'm looking for something that will reset ALL of the files back to stock (like you can do with an iPhone...).
***edit: Sorry, probably should have put this into Q+A... If an admin wants to do so, that would be OK...

Technically you should have put it lol..
but before you get flamed... this is how:
factory reset and hook it up to the computer then delete every folder/file off it.

I don't think I can delete "every file and folder" can I? Won't that mess up the Xoom?

no, you dont have access to files that are crucial to the xoom functioning correctly through the pc. If u dont want to mess with adb and img files then do my method. It's the same way like cellphones, you can delele everything off your sd card and the phone will still function.
I just checked nothing of importance is on the /sdcard folder so u can delete away. You don't have access to /sys or folders like that.
Yea thats another simple way to do it. Just remove all synced accounts and user installed apps, go into the sdcard folder and clean up the cache and program data folders there.
same question
I did all of the options available in recovery, and there is still data on the unit.
0/
legacy/
obb/
is my file structure.
I can't believe there's no way to wipe this thing (like new from the store) so I can pass it along.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I'm good to use ADB or fastboot if needed.

actually, that doesn't do it. I bought a LTE xoom from a UK buyer who did that, and when I installed MXplayer, I was greeted with some lovely videos...
best thing to do to reset a xoom for resale is described in the link below:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-restore-and-relock-a-motorola-xoom-tablet/
this will completely reset the device to factory standards.

Unlocking/relocking the bootloader should do it. You could do fastboot commands to wipe each partition I guess too.

Is it possible to remove the CDFS partition (Verizon Mobile) without rooting the phone?
It is the company's phone, so no rooting for me but I would love to be able to use the TB as a USB stick on my JVC KD-AVX77 in the car. Right now it doesn't see any music and I suspect that's because of that CDFS partition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I'd like to know this as well...
Bumping this up. Even if it requires root, would still like to know how to do it period, as I can't seem to find any info anywhere.
you have to delete a file and you need to be rooted to do so because it is a system file.
/system/etc/cdrom.iso is the file that needs to be deleted

The ISO is only about 6mb. However, after removing it, the CD drive still shows up when connected, just with no data. Any thoughts, or is this something a kernel dev/CM7(lol down with Sense!) is going to have to take care of?
In the programming menu the option was removed. Take the Incredible for instance, you could disable it, but not so on the TB for now. Unless someone figures out a way to change it Im out of ideas, but removing it worked for me.

Well at least removing it gets rid of the autorun prompt. Good enough for now, and I'm sure the CM team will figure it out.
Root here. Didn't work for me. I can't mount my sd card through my phone after deleting that file.
I did flash adrenalyn's 1.9 kernal some days before which may be the cause of my having a different result from others in this thread however I think it's a good idea to DO A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE ATTEMPTING!
or at least rename the file with a .old or .bak extension, whatever ya like... luckily I have the backup from before the kernal flash
would logcat be able to track down what's being accessed while the phone is mounting volumes while enabling disk mode?
Rather than removing it, I replaced it with an ISO of my own that has the Tether for Android setup exe and dmg, and a few other misc files I might need
Hi, my sister has an Asus transformer. She put a pin lock on it but has forgot the number. I suggested a factory data reset, but she doesn't want to do that. Is there any way to reset the password. By the way, she is not rooted.
Thank you for your help.
Im pretty sure if shes not rooted and she doesnt want to reset she is screwed !!!!

nope factory reset is the only way. technically you could pull the password file with adb but its difficult and probably encrypted
Why would she forget her pin?
Maybe try Screen Lock Bypass?
Never tried it but there's one review on there that says it worked on his Transformer.

Thank you for all of your solutions.
I had a question about pulling the password file with adb.
Where is the file located, and if I do pull it with ad, how would I decrypt it?
Thank you for all of your help.
should be at system/app/settings.apk/res/xml/security_settings_encrypted but im not exactly sure
and i don't know how you would decrypt it

Is the file which contains the password in the settings app's cache?
And if so, can I just wipe the caches and that won't effect any of the data that is on the tablet?
Thank you
i don't think that will do it. if you can pull the data partition factory reset then push the data partition back in that might work

Just continue entering random pin numbers. After a couple tries the tab will ask you to sign in with your google account. As long as she remembers her account she will be fine.
Yeah...like pierrekid said...just keep messing up the pin and it will ask to log in with your Google Account info.

She has put in over 100 pins, but it hasn't asked for the Google account. And there is a triangle with an exclamation mark in the notification bar, doesn't that mean that it can't log in to the account? What happens then?

Would you do that with adb?
If the tablet is encrypted rather than just pin locked you don't get that option AFAIK, if it's just pin locked, AFAIK last anyone posted about it enough wrong pin entries popped about going through the Google Account.

the exclamation point means she must have changed her google account password too.
try and change it back on google.com on a computer, reboot transformer, and see if it prompts for recovery after failed attempts.

She tried changing it back to the original password, but it says that you can't change your password back to a password that has been used previously. What do I do now?
I figured by this time she would give in and do a factory reset already.
Some people really like to avoid that, whether or not they have a backup. But hey, she probably hasn't asked about pulling the PCB with the eMMC on it and finding a way of getting to it...lol

Maybe you can pull the files with adb (easiest way).
If it is a <B70 (with working nvflash) you can backup de data partition, mount it on linux and recover the pictures. Maybe even flash this partion back after reset.
For making the backup see here. You only need to backup partition 15 (which can take hours).
For the mount see here. Edit: see below.
If ADB is working you can maybe use the backup from the above (mount) thread.
Some experiences is needed.
edit: I just tried to mount my backup of data partition and indeed I can access (and copy) the Pictures folder (or whatever is on data partition).
For mount just do:
[email protected]:/x# mkdir x
[email protected]:/x# mount -o loop 15_UDA_raw.img x
[email protected]:/x# cd x
[email protected]:/x/x# ls
anr cal.bin drm media secure

Hello,
yes this has probably been a problem to many people, but I couldn't find a solution for my case.
I flashed a ROM and forgot to backup my files before, so now my whole photos and files I need are gone.
I am looking for a solution to restore deleted photos on my nexus 5. I obviously can't use generic recovery methods because, well, I don't have a sd card to pull out and plug into my computer.
is there a app / method to recover deleted files directly on the nexus (over adb?)?
Paid solutions are welcome too!
Check this thread, has a topic on OTG, which happens to allow mounting as usb storage. Might do the trick.
Hmm the OTG part is about mounting devices on the nexus. I want it the other way around, mount it on my mac and run recovery software on it.
Any ideas on that?
Can't be done.

Yes, I am currently trying a option cross linked in that guide.
I'm taking a raw image of my data partition to my mac and will try to restore data there.
Steps taken from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705. Although for windows, but finding the needed tools for mac is not that big of a task.
Will report if I have any success on this

This Data Recovery enables you to recover lost photos, videos, documents and more other files from your nexus 5, you can have a try.

You've mentioned, " I don't have a sd card to pull out and plug into my computer", actually, you could apply to some app that could identify your device directly.
Here is an Android Data Recovery Mac that may help. You can also google other apps if you need.
So this is what happened to me today.
I pluged my phone to my windows pc, i had to upload a file to flash a new rom.
Inside the internal memory folder i found a file named " \ ", 0 bites, no information.
I accidentally tried to delete it, and stopped the process a second before. Now i have literally lost every single file from my phone lol
I still have all my apps, and everything works fine, but i don't have anymore songs, photos, pdf, zip, or whatever.
If the files are still there? Yes, for sure they are there, but my phone have lost their "address".
I don't think there is anything i can do about it now (ideas are always welcomed), a part for enjoyin my "new" 20GB of free space LoL

Yep..i thought it the exact moment i did it. That's why i interrupted the process while it was still going.
The real question is: why for the bless of God i had that strange file there? I'm still surprised to see how this deleted all my files, without touching anything else o.o i have "lost" 15gb of files, in the time of a blink (press delete-> stop it)
Ps. i haven't lost anything important, just junks.

Um, what?
If you're asking which one to buy, it's your own decision, and no one here will give you an unbiased opinion. Nor is it anything related to this thread.
Hi,
Since a few days I'm unable to see any data in my phone via gallery or file manager or any application, and I'm unable to save any data to internal storage. (example: I'm able to use whatsapp for texting, but I can't receive/send any audio/picture and I can't access the old ones).
And I keep getting this error message:"com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication keeps stopping."
I don't know if that's what causing it or if that's just a consequence of not being able to access internal storage.
I can still see all the used storage from settings though.
Phone has unlocked bootloader, but no root/custom rom/recovery.
I saw other Oneplus users started getting the same error these days... (I have a Oneplus 6, but others have different models like Oneplus Nord).
Someone resolved by wiping system and they were able to retrieve storage content and functionality, but they lost apps data, I'm trying to find another way since I have an unlocked bootloader.
A user on stackoverflow suggested I should clean the com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication app data to regenerate the database, but I couldn't figure out how to do it
I tried cleaning media and media.module packages (not media.MediaApplication) from adb but no luck even if successful.
I tried removing "com.android.providers.media" (not media.MediaApplication, I couldn't find that one) folder from data/data with twrp file manager but no luck...
Is there a way to specifically clean "com.android.providers.media.MediaApplication"?
If anyone has any other suggestion on things to try, post it here please.
