Streaming to Twitch with the Shield - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried streaming with the shield?
Surprisingly, it actually makes a fairly decent streaming device, I've been using Kainy to stream my desktop to the tablet, and then broadcasting it to twitch. I think there is a tiny bit of audio delay and that's about it. The front-facing cam is also used as a webcam on the stream, can be switched on and off.
Anyone else had any experience with it, if so, what do you think?

Its worked well for me. The only issue seems to be with the more intensive Android based games, like HL2, where ocassionally it skips frames or stutters. However ive used it to stream gamestream of Batman AC and that worked without issue. Ive also streamed Trine 2 (rarely a stutter) and some emulator action with Gameboy and NES games without issue.
Very impressed so far with the streaming abilities. Nice for sharing despite me not being huge into streaming everything i play.

[Q] Have you watched a movie yet on your HTC Pro?

If so how was the viewing and what media player did you use? I haven't tried it yet. Although I do have the latest version of TCMP loaded on my device.
I've moved some tv programs over (synced them like this http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=743) and the quality was really good. I'm just using Windows Media player which is probably the worst of the players. I found that if I went to fast forward there would be a delay between the sound and video but if I just let it play it was perfect.
I followed the advice that was posted in a previous thread (I can't locate it at the moment) and ripped my DVDs to MP4/H.264/AAC/1000 kbps/29.97 bps, 640/360 size (for 16:9 movies), then used the built-in Windows Media Player to play them. The playback is virtually flawless - smooth, no dropped frames, virtually no pixleization on action shots, etc. This even works great for really difficult movies - Blade Runner, ID4, Matrix, etc. Some notes:
- I'm storing the movies on a 8GB Class 6 microSDHC card, which provides much faster performance than the cheaper Class 2 and 4 cards
- The files are big - each 2 hour movie is around 1GB
- The movies still play great in fullscreen mode
I've used the free apps like SUPER or AutoMKV, as well as Corel DVD Copy, and they all work fine.

Because I already had the iPod Touch, I didn't really feel like having an iPhone. I really thought the TP would be a good alternative. Of course I realized that the multimedia experience would be a little less because of the smaller display etc. But I never would have guessed that playing any movie on my TP would be such a disappointment. I tried the mediaplayer of course and I also tried the coreplayer and the Divx player for the PPC. They all play the movie either too small, no movie at all or bad quality etc. I have to admit, I stopped trying pretty soon and will pick up on this as soon as I have flashed a custom rom or something, but I would really appreciate it when someone could direct us in this thread on how to enjoy movies on the TP.
^ that's weird because I'm using the newest version of coreplayer and its opening and playing pretty much all divx and xvid encoded files that I've copied over. I am trying to find a simple way to copy my favorite dvd movies to it though (for a long bus ride this coming T-day).
BTW, does anyone know how long the battery will last watching a movie on full charge without AC power?
Haven't watched a movie yet, but was playing around with the AT&T CV application (Cingular/ Cellular Video). My daughter and I watched a couple of preview for upcoming movies. I was blown away by the picture quality.
I moved over some regular sized movies onto my microSDHC, playing on coreplayer, output GDI, quality Medium, and it runs perfectly full screen. Make sure aspect ratio is 4:3
The only gripe so far is WMV files that are larger resolution on Coreplayer or WMP. Everything else seems to play fine. I have a copy of Casino Royale on my phone just to piss on the iphone boys when I show them my resolution and clarity. The playback is flawless it really looks like a a mini HD screen, I love this thing.
i watched happy gilmore then a bunch of tv eps that looked great using coreplayer and the divx player
but i downloaded some movie trailers from ign in wmv format and they were vga res and would barely play they had so much lag! i dont understand that at all

Make sure aspect ratio is 4:3? Why is that? I just tried that and this f*cked up my widescreen episode of Heroes. The GDI, quality Medium tip however, made my movie run much smoother. But again, having to set the quality to medium surely doesn't enhance the 'movie experience'.
I guess it depends how the original movie is formated. i used 4:3 for 640x360 movies. I think medium still looks great. I dont think you could expect any phone to run it super high quality. Remember we have a super high res screen for a phone.
I've streamed Borat from my PC with Orb and the quality was excellent.
I have noticed that I can watch a movie that is 640x480 at the highest quality no problem. The second i try to watch a 640 x 350 movie at high quality it lags like crazy. Anyone else notice/try this?

Flash streaming video is pixelated, is yours?

When watching streaming videos from websites is it pixelated on your device? I'm watching anime and dramas on sites and they are blockish looking. It did this on my pc back in the day with older divx/flash plugins as well.
(This isn't the case for sites like Youtube, etc. It is mainly on the anime sites).
It's because the resoluton of the video you are streaming is not high enough.
then the problem are with the videos you're watching. they must just be low-quality.
also, some sites stream lower quality videos depending on your connection speed, that can another thing to consider.
It's not those kind of squares that result from low quality vids.
The vids look fine on my desktop running at higher res.
These are little tiny squares.
try posting a screenshot.
The TF is terrible in playing flash videos via browsers. Check the videos on this site, for instance:
http://www.ittf.com/ittv/
I also cannot play any flash video on the espn3 site on the TF. On my other computers, all these videos play smoothly. Even on my Gingerbread Nook Color and on the 2.2 HTC Thunderbolt, they play smoothly.
Apparently the Xoom or the Galaxy Tab has no trouble playing flash. So something's wrong with the Asus implementation.

I watched a vid on that site on my TF and my laptop..
Those videos are low quality and the TF looked better than my laptop..(it was smaller)
I've streamed videos from youtube and vimeo and they look great. it all depends on what's going in...to determine what's going out.
yes I found it pixelated too. tried dolphin HD and the video quality is worst than playing it on stock browser. I downloaded the video file (using firefox plugin), the quality is much better played on stock video player. so I presume the flash player used by the browsers are set to certain quality.

What's the problem with Ustream ? It's working fine here.
I get pixelation when viewing ad videos on websites. Doesn't bother me at all.

The Tegra2 does seem to do less deblocking that you might get on a system with more spare CPU power. Nothing to do with "pixelation" though.

[Q] Plex for Android video slowdowns

Hi,
Just wondering, since the ICS update playing video's with plex (streaming them from a server) isnt posible anymore it seems like the video plays with 10 or 15 fps. Anyone else having this problem? MKV's from an usb stick doesnt work great either (with bsplayer lite) only avi's play fine.
Anyone noticing the same problems?

[Q] How does the TF700 handle 1080p MKV files played from an SMB share?

Hey everyone. I recently bought a Nexus 10, only to find out that it can't play 720p, let alone 1080p mkv video files with hardware acceleration. So I've been looking into using the TF700 for playing video files shared over my local network. Does anyone have any experience with this? How does the TF700 handle 1080p mkv files? I've used BSPlayer on the N10, but I want to be able to actually watch 1080p videos. Thanks!
I use MX Player Pro because it's HW+ mode handles 1080p hi10 MKV videos; However, I typically copy files over before playing. I suppose as long as the connection is good enough you could use CIFS manager (Needs root, maybe additional drivers) to map the network share so that the tablet only sees it as another local folder if it's not able to play them through a network browser like ES file explorer.
ive watched 1080p videos from my PC using BS Player on my device. what was the issue?
I've been looking for the best way to setup the tf700t to play movies from my pc. Most seem to be a bit laggy or the sound goes out of sync. Is it due to the tf700t not having dual band capability? Is that something an update later on could fix, or is it hardware? Any advice you all have would be great. The fastest connection I get to my router is 65mbps, is that enough for HD videos?
Here is a vid of me streaming HD from my local network to my tablet. No lags or desyncs. I use cleanrom 2.7.2 and clemsyns 1.3.1.5 kernel. The BS Player is the only player that works for that :/
There must be an issue with your setup.

i have no issues streaming mkv from BS player. Sound syncs perfectly. I also have 65mbps
Hi,
I`ve found not only player is important.
Using normal ROM (rooted but not unlocked) I use Built-In player to play HD content. Also good choice will me MX Player.
Found some sync and delay issues but I know reason now...
It was not player issue, guilty was application with SMB/CIFS support.
Using now Solid Explorer Beta2 (v1.4.0 - last cracked version with license activation .apk file ---> available to download through BlackMarket apk
SMB or CIFS works great, all sync problems gone now, plays 1080p with high bitrate with no prob
Interesting, my TF700 is as stock as it comes (stock rom, no root), and I'm not able to play any 1080p mkv's over wifi (yes, connected @ 65mbps).
The combo Wifi + ES File Exporer + BS Player (HW decode modus) works for files up to 720p, but not for 1080p (not even 6gig files).
I'll give Solid Explorer a try (there's a 14-day trial version in the Play store) and see if that solves anything..
Ofcourse it plays the same files just fine from internal memory or (micro)SD card, it has the power.
If there are any more tips, I'd like to hear them for streaming 1080p mkv's Not quite ready to root although CIFS maanger would make life easier, won't it?
You can watch with bsplayer, it handles mkv files, i watched battleship in 1080p so it does work

Over wifi?
I stream my re-encoded blurays in 1080p x264 mkv format with DTS, subtitle tracks and whatnot all over my network to laptops, mediaplayers, wired and wireless..
So I think it's not my network or my wireless router and/or my two other access points (objective was maximum wifi-speeds coverage in entire house).
I tried l3v's suggestion to access my files on the NAS with Solid Explorer instead of ES File Explorer and stream again using BS Player, but unfortunately no difference in jerkyness and framedrops when using ES File Explorer..
Maybe I should be looking at BS player settings (or perhaps WIFI settings)? Anyone care to share or are you just using default settings?
So I'm not sure what makes others stream without issues and I can't (but all other devices in the house can)... Kind of annoys me, makes me jealous :silly:
:good::good: for Dice Player, and VLC for my backup!
I use ES for all my everyday share access and Cleanrom ( even on ICS with Zeus worked nice! )
try that combo
Based in my experience with devices way slower than TF700 (so my experience might not translate), I've found it much easier to share my videos through a web site set up with IIS (Internet Information Server) which is free in many versions of Windows. MX Player handles http with ease (even for fast seeking), no username/password required (although supported), and http is a much better streaming protocol than SMB (Windows share), so if your network is slow or has many collisions it will perform a little better. If your Windows version doesn't include IIS, you can download XAMP (free) or better yet Cherokee (google cherokee web server), which is fast and lightweight.

SMB is highly un-optimized on android, It;s all going to depend on your bitrate(not your resolution). DLNA is a far more efficient mechanism for streaming on android.
If you are trying to stream full bitrate Blu-ray content I would avoid SMB.

asf stream video programs out there yet?

I have a linksys webcam that streams its output in a .asf link, however I have yet to find an android program out there that will stream the video. a few browsers like chrome and firefox will start to download the .asf file but does so in an endless cycle until it crashes or chops of a segment of time, which can be played back by a few video players ive found, however no player i have found is able to directly fead from it, so there is no real time viewing of the fead.
anyone know off hand of an .asf steam capable video player that works on the xoom? id love to use it to watch my webcams instead of using vlc on my desktop which is half way across the room where i usually sit and surf on the tablet.
thanks all!
