[Q] Force orientation of some apps. - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Folks,
I'm completely in love with this device (P905).
However, there are some apps that are meant to use with phones, that will change their orientation (to portrait) and stretch to use the whole screen.
So everything is stretched out and completely unusable/ugly.
I have already disabled the auto orientation... and this problem still stands. I have tried to run these apps in windowed mode, but no luck.
So, any tips on how to force orientation on a single app?
A few apps that have this behavior: Connectbot, ESPN Score Center, UFC TV come to mind.
My tab is rooted, I'm running Wanam Xposed.
Thanks.

Try "Ultimate Rotation Control" in the app store. It allows per application rotation settings.
You may experience crashes when forcing some applications though forcing you to hard reboot the device.

Screen Orientation

Is there a way to stop my screen from rotating when opening the keyboard for some apps like market and what not.
I've tried DroidSans Tweak Tools and Lite works but doesnt have that option and Full force closes.
Any other apps or ideas?

I wish! I don't know of any tools to turn the rotating off for specific apps, but of course there is the main option in Settings-> Sounds and display. I wish that someone would make some kind of setting for this purpose because I know that there are always some apps I want it to rotate, and some that I don't.
Sadly I think it would need to be implemented into each app, such as Handcent, there is an option to turn on and off the auto rotate, so I believe it would need to be app by app rather than something to correct settings in batches.
have you tried QuickSettings app? its free and has small toggle to disable autoorientation , and it works for me. You can find it on market. Give it a try!
What happens when you play a game that is supposed to run in landscape but you force it to run in portrait mode???

AirDroid working fix for google tv 2

if you set orientation control to landscape then potrait errors disappear
this has the effect of being able to install and try different apps for compatibility
I now have AirDroid (by setting landscape mode) working which really helps with installs and app exports etc
tested with Sony NSZ-GT1 honeycomb 3.1 offical update, note you may need to force close airdroid after first run
needed
orientation control(paid $1.49),AirDroid (free) both found in android market
this also allows other potrait only apps to work, note some still force close
other orientation apps may also work but untested
if you find a free one let me know
Thanks!!
bubble2: Huge help... now it works. Thanks so much!!

Anyone ever find any alternatives to Orientation control to set to landscape? I would like to install airdroid on my logitech revue.
*update* Answering my own question "Rotation Locker" is free and seems to work the same. It does have to be sideloaded (i downloaded it via dropbox) as market says it's incompatible but it works fine. I used it to install tapatalk, airdroid and mint.com.

Apk installer and system overlay apps

Hello devs.
I have a question, why the built-in apk installer doesn't work, while there is running app, which has system overlayed window?
Good example is "Screen filter". If you start it to dim your screen, the Install button doesn't work anymore. The same issue is with my own app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1935613
Started issue on JB,on GB it works correctly.
What should I do in case of prevention while development apps?
I have the same problem on GB. whenever I use night mode app then the install button doesn't work and the I have to deactivate it to install the app. I didn't knew others had this problem too!

Auto Rotating Problem, but only in Gallery app

Hi, since yesterday I've been starting to have this issue. The pictures in official Samsung Gallery app do not rotate. In the rest of official apps the rotation works and also in other gallery apps. I have unlocked SM-G920I phone. Anyone else with same problem. I guess it has to be some software issue

I've only seen that if you quick launch into the camera from a locked phone. If you unlock your phone 1st, then go into the gallery, it does not display that behavior (if I remember correctly)
I read somehing similar on a Spanish forum and it was Nova Launcher Beta's fault...

Thanks! I will check that. I'm currently using it
I got that today but no nova launcher
Don't know where you guys are from but I've been hacking around Samsung devices since the Galaxy Note came out. My discovery and conclusion was that here Australian Samsung firmware has the stupid gallery app NOT Auto rotate. I've installed non Australian firmware on Note, S3 S4 etc and they all auto rotated ok. Nothing to do with Nova Launcher.
Gallery rotation fix
Ok guys I have found a workaround that led to a fix.
I had the same problem this morning sudden loss of rotation in just the Gallery app.
It is definitely a software conflict of some type and can be fixed by doing the following.
First download Adaptive Rotation lock, I got the paid version, but the free works ok.
Install on phone and set rotation in the app to force auto it's is the only one that works initially. Go to the gallery and rotation works. I was going to leave it at that until Samsung issued a gallery update or I swapped the APK.
I played around with the gallery and camera app for a while, cleared back grounding apps and used smart manager to clean up. I went back into the adaptive Rotation lock app hit disable at the bottom, and now the gallery app is back to normal without the app running.
Hope it has the same effect for you guys if not use the rotation app until a software patch is issued.
I have the same problem on my s6.
I am rooted and using nova beta.
The adaptive rotate app works but I don't want to have it running all the time... I hope a fix comes out eventually

same problem here.
no root.
no nova launcher.
when I access the gallery app directly, photos won't rotate.
but - when I access the gallery app through the camera app - auto rotation works.
weird, isn't it?
The fix I applied was super simple.
Previously, gallery did not rotate when launched from a folder on the nova home screen.
When I moved the shortcut out of a folder, to occupy just one spot on my home screen, it started to rotate.
Also, launching gallery from the app drawer always was able to rotate as well

man, I owe you a beer!
launched the gallery app from the app tray - worked!
scrapped the homescreen shortcut, made a new one - works just fine
For Nova launcher: go to nova launcher menu > look and feel > screen rotation and select auto rotate.
Gallery app now rotate correctly from folder.

OMG! I'm OCD with stuff like this and have been scouring the web for help as it just didn't make any sense. Thanks so much for finding this out. As soon as I removed my shortcut and re added it, it worked. I also quick tested and seen that it worked in app drawer. Did you submit this issue to Nova Launcher dev?
EDIT: I just quoted your fix and this issue on Nova's beta Google+ page. Thanks again!
Chris
I tried this before reading your reply and got the pix in gallery to rotate as well. Thanks for your comment though.

Ok, not nova launcher but Apex Launcher with auto rotation off (inside apex launcher settigs), same issue. If apex launcher auto rotation on, then it works, but you can still set launcher auto rotation just changing the shortcut for a new one.
So, just deletting gallery shortcut from homescreen and creating a new one will work auto rotate on gallery again.
Thanks all!
I'm having this same issue on my galaxy s7 edge.
My phone is not rooted
I do run nova launcher.
I noticed the issue happened after I downloaded package disabler. After I disabled a bunch of apps only gallery would not rotate.
I did an batch re-enable and gallery rotated again. At this point I went through disabling each application individually, testing gallery after each application until I got to s-voice.
When I disabled s-voice GALLERY WOULD NOT ROTATE. Just to be sure I disabled/re-enabled gallery 3 times and tested it each time with s voice disabled gallery would not rotate, with s voice enabled gallery WOULD rotate.
No idea how or why s voice would effect gallery but it does, at least in my setup. Anyways I hope this helps someone
easy solution
you just need to delete the Gallery's (system app data) in the SETTINGS/installed app manager
I can confirm that deleting the Gallery app shortcut and replacing it works. I also have Nova Launcher installed.

I realized I was using a nova launcher imported icon for my gallery from my note 2 (have note 5 now). I deleted it and used the updated gallery icon from the app drawer and it solved the auto rotate issue with the gallery. EASY.

Make a shortcut on shield tv

So i've downloaded the apk for epsxe from my phone's ftp server, and I'm not interestedin going to settings, app settings to launch it every time. How can I do this. Is there a way to do this without tasker and a weird workaround?
Edit: some of the other apps seem to add their own shortcut

Use "Sideload Launcher" by Chainfire. It puts all your apps in a Android TV Launcher box on the main screen. Otherwise there's no other way.
i've been able to add stuff from the shield hub and the Android TV netflix app icon shortcut to NovaLauncher using add widget then searching for the app icon. if ur not interested in using a different launcher i think SideLoad launcher is your best bet
