[Q] Similar programs for Windows - General Topics

Hi there, I was wondering if there are programs out there like greenify or Go Battery Saver for Windows, I'd love to install them in my Laptop.
I ask this here because there is no other section for this answer and it was not in the search result. Thanks

You can disable processes using the task manager or msconfig.

But I mean something like those programs, because none of windows options come with that, I already try them. TuneUp utility has a similar freeze option but it doesn't really cover everything.

apps in background without ever opening

So I noticed this the other day going through my running apps. Upon a reboot, without opening any apps, I noticed that half my app drawer was open. So I manually forced stopped all of them, which naturally quickened my phone and seemed to help battery. I just don't understand why this is happening?

Common problem with Android, I had same problem with every Android device I've had. That's why we have task killer apps, though this is something the OS should do anyways

It isn't a problem with android. It is the way android works. It keeps things ready to be opened if needed. If you close them manually they will just restart using up memory and your battery. Task killers aren't good for much except in rare cases of force closing crashed apps.
And this should probably be in the general section not development.

My bad, I put it here cuz I thought it may have been because I'm rooted running debloat. Never had that problem on my dx or if I did I didnt notice. Anyway thanks for the responses

see I don't agree with that at all. When using froyo, task killers are a must. And these apps don't just "reopen" if I kill them all in my task killer and come back 20 mins later, maybe an app or two has opened, but not the 30 when my phone first boots.
Gingerbread is a whole different story.
Yeah I notice when using task killers my battery life is drastically increased. And has been with all 6 Android phones I have had. And if those app running don't drain battery why do most Verizon employees install task killer for u at purchase?

Because the retail-monkeys are morons and don't know any better.

I use an app called Autorun Manager. It will tell you which apps automatically start and lets you disable them. The nice thing - it tells you which one's are self-restarters. Don't disable them because they will restart & slowly kill your battery as they fight the killing (just as they would any other task manager).

Completely, 100% inaccurate....this is not a "problem", it is the way the OS is supposed to operate. This isn't Windows, it's linux.
Okay, maybe not 100% inaccurate. There are the occasional rogue apps that you'll improve performance on by killing them, but they're not the rule.
Along with Autorun Manager to stop apps from opening on start, I'd suggest using AutoKiller Memory Manager from the same author: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rs.autokiller
Probably the worst named app ever, because it makes people think it is something that it isn't. It's not a task killer, per se, it's a way to tweak the settings in Android that control Android's own memory management scheme. MinFreeManager is another one. If your handy with the terminal, you can do the same with a cat command.
For a much better explanation of how Android works in this regard, check out this blog post: http://www.androidcentral.com/fine-tuning-minfree-settings-improving-androids-multi-tasking

Yeah...I forgot about AutoKiller...I've had Gingerbread on my Eris for the last 3 months

[Q] Is there any way to stop running services at startup?

I noticed every time I start my Transformer, in the running processes there is all this garbage:
PayPal
Asus Keyboard (I use SwiftKey)
Asus Sync
My Apps
MyNet
Splashtop Remote
Is there any way to make none of these startup on my device, but let them launch if they're actually needed instead?

Some of the apps I do need (like Paypal), I just don't want a running process of it when my machine starts up.
Root it and use the app called Autostarts.
You can disable any app you don't want starting up automatically, but you want to keep installed in case you need it!

Also app called startup manager. Lets you specify apps to run at startup too.

[Q] list of installed apps and games

Hi, I am going to flash the new DFT freedom ROM later today to my HTC Mozart. is there an app that allows me to list all currently installed apps and games so i can easily search them later? the Zune purchase history doesn't really help as i don't have most of these apps installed anymore.
regards
Localhorst86
I agree... such thing would really be useful. I also need such a thing also for my ipad!
I bump this question to know if TODAY something similar would exist ...
So : is there any app than can list all currently installed app on the device ?
There is an app called "reinstaller" in the marketplace. It however does not list installed application but a list of all apps ever "purchased".

Unknown App Called 10144 pulling background data

Sent from my Z830 using XDA Free mobile app
I have an app that only shows up in my data usage menu called 10144 I've tried to research it and haven't found any information on. I have looked through my lists of installed programs and packages and haven't found this anywhere but in that menu. Its pulled 9.58 MB of data which isn't much but could be a lot of personal info. Forgive me for being new to fourms but any info someone could provide would be appreciated

Can we get a screenshot? Also, try installing titanium backup. Background services app that do not appear in Settings may show up in titanium backup.
Here is a screen shot of that app in my data usage menu

Use file manager with root and go to /data/system/packages.list where all your apps are listed with UIDs.
That takes me into another problem, I can't find anyone who has rooted the phone I have z830.

Any help on rooting it would be great and I would pay

Phone slow

My phone is really slow. Started about a week ago. I have installed several apps and am sure it is one of them but which one? Does anyone know of an app to monitor the running processes so I can find the processor hog?
Sent from my LG-H830 using XDA-Developers mobile app
You can just go into settings when your phone is feeling slow and check which apps are using the most ram. If you don't have root I suggest ccleaner. If you do, get greenify or/and amplify (xposed framework needed). Good luck
i think you should check ram usage only, greenify or boost app won't work,
clear cache, junk files...
