My phone is really slow. Started about a week ago. I have installed several apps and am sure it is one of them but which one? Does anyone know of an app to monitor the running processes so I can find the processor hog?

You can just go into settings when your phone is feeling slow and check which apps are using the most ram. If you don't have root I suggest ccleaner. If you do, get greenify or/and amplify (xposed framework needed). Good luck

I am looking for a real time monitor, kinda like the "processes tab" of windows task manager do I can see exactly what running and how much cpu and memory is being consumed be each running app from moment to moment. Any ideas? TIA.

So I noticed this the other day going through my running apps. Upon a reboot, without opening any apps, I noticed that half my app drawer was open. So I manually forced stopped all of them, which naturally quickened my phone and seemed to help battery. I just don't understand why this is happening?

Common problem with Android, I had same problem with every Android device I've had. That's why we have task killer apps, though this is something the OS should do anyways

It isn't a problem with android. It is the way android works. It keeps things ready to be opened if needed. If you close them manually they will just restart using up memory and your battery. Task killers aren't good for much except in rare cases of force closing crashed apps.
And this should probably be in the general section not development.

My bad, I put it here cuz I thought it may have been because I'm rooted running debloat. Never had that problem on my dx or if I did I didnt notice. Anyway thanks for the responses

see I don't agree with that at all. When using froyo, task killers are a must. And these apps don't just "reopen" if I kill them all in my task killer and come back 20 mins later, maybe an app or two has opened, but not the 30 when my phone first boots.
Gingerbread is a whole different story.
Yeah I notice when using task killers my battery life is drastically increased. And has been with all 6 Android phones I have had. And if those app running don't drain battery why do most Verizon employees install task killer for u at purchase?

I use an app called Autorun Manager. It will tell you which apps automatically start and lets you disable them. The nice thing - it tells you which one's are self-restarters. Don't disable them because they will restart & slowly kill your battery as they fight the killing (just as they would any other task manager).

Completely, 100% inaccurate....this is not a "problem", it is the way the OS is supposed to operate. This isn't Windows, it's linux.
Okay, maybe not 100% inaccurate. There are the occasional rogue apps that you'll improve performance on by killing them, but they're not the rule.
Along with Autorun Manager to stop apps from opening on start, I'd suggest using AutoKiller Memory Manager from the same author: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rs.autokiller
Probably the worst named app ever, because it makes people think it is something that it isn't. It's not a task killer, per se, it's a way to tweak the settings in Android that control Android's own memory management scheme. MinFreeManager is another one. If your handy with the terminal, you can do the same with a cat command.

Yeah...I forgot about AutoKiller...I've had Gingerbread on my Eris for the last 3 months
All my system tools, network tools, repair tools, is it possible there tools over lap. Like if three apps all have same program all have start up app killers do they all work. Which wins out.. that's one thing I'm talking battery savers. Network defence. I have apps for there best options but some do things I don't want so can that cause conflict? Like slow phone down. I notice memory being eaten up and wonder if that could be the issue. I mean I want them all but if there duplicate abilities is hurting not helping I will uninstall them. Also how come programs that don't need to start up and come back even after I Kill them. Thanks

Deleting apparently will not free up ram it will free up rom. Your ram is used when apps are running. I have only seen system monitors needed when you overclock and battery savers usually don't help that much. And yes they will overlap and conflict with each other. My battery lasts longer without battery savers and app killers. App killers can also (by default) turn off apparently your phone needs to run and cause stability issues unless you tell them not to (not all will do this but some.) I personally use the back arrow to go back to the home screen and that pretty much stops the app and I get on average about 18 hours out of mt photon (most I have gotten is 1 day 13 hours but I didn't use it a lot at all) and I got about 15 hour average on my evo.

OK I just hate getting rid apps I paid for and are good. Like Rom manager. Super manager. Rom tool box and titanium back up. I mean others too where one does all functions. So if I uninstall a app it wont run, so more memory. Is there a way to clean duplicate system files running or does it need them. Like system tasks not apps. Thanks. Also why do some apps run even when I turn them off starting up is there as app for that. Freeze? Function keep it from running in the background

why are you trying to use any type of task killer? its not needed.

why do you think you need to free up RAM? Free RAM is WASTED RAM....there are thousands of articles on this subject, i would suggest you do some reading on how the system works, before you randomly start killing processes and apps.
I don't know if out G2x can get chocked on the many programs that one can be running today. But I am assuming that managing RAM is always a good idea.
Any software that can tell me about RAM usage (in details) so I can chose to disable some programs or chose not to use these?
I see that facebook alone can take like 50MB of RAM. What???
But maybe I am mistaken about all of these and in today's world there is no need to keep these in check?

If your rooted you can use droidwall to control what apps use data you can use startup pro to stop certain apps to startup on boot.

So i recently updated my phone to gingerbread about 6 days ago and im really irratated as i find all these apps randomly opening when i look at my tak manager usually i have only one app opened and thats the one im currently using although of course i multi task but i suddenly find all these apps open when i never used them,as i wrote this i looked at what has opened since i last stopped all tasks and i find:rom manager,messenger,gallery and weather. Any1 got the same problem or a way to fix this?

In GB , free RAM is used as cache applications.
Put in memory frequently used applications for quick opening.
No problem, are there but do not use CPU.
Only active services use resources.
they wont bother you, if the idle ram get very low，the system would end some apps.
there is a app called Autostart, it can disable some app you dont want it active after boot up. but use it carefully. a recovery backup might help,if something goes wrong.

Since updating from 6.0.1 to 7.0 on my Nexus 6P I have realized that the task manager I used no longer works. I tried many other popular and non popular task manager apps on Nougat and none of them work. They all display something like "no running apps to display."
So obviously it seems in 7.0 Google updated whatever command is needed for an app to pull the running apps from the system, and no one has updated their task manager app to work with 7.0. I was pretty shocked that in the forums no topic with "task manager" was created with in the past 6 months to talk about this.
So are others people experiencing this with task managers on Nougat? If so, have you found any task manager app that works with Nougat?
Edit: sorry if this the wrong forum to post this, but I figured it applied here since it seem to be related to new API causing these types of apps to not work. Feel free to move it if this topic fits better somewhere else. Thanks!

Simple! Because ever since Android 5.0 the task manager only shows the average RAM usage. It does not currently show what's running in real time. Only shows the past 3 hour, 6 hour, 12 hour, or 1 day average. It shows apps that are not even running at that very second. That information can be helpful some but not for everything.
In Android 4.4 and earlier it used to show real time what apps were running. Just like on Windows computers task manager shows real time what's running. If an app starts running, it appears on the list. if an app stops running, it disappears from the list. This is helpful for finding a rogue app on your battery, or a rogue app slowing down your phone using a Ton of RAM. It is not as easy identifying a rogue app with averages. Especially if it's an app that's not running all the time in the back ground.

Does it also kill apps automatically? I dont want services running after i close the app, and i dont want to go to running services to do it everytime... Android should have that option lets call it dont allow background running or while screen off...

It won't kill apps automatically you can use Greenify for that or you can do it manually every time after you open the app again.
There are two ways
1. Go to app info and force stop it. (recommended)
2. Go to running services and stop it from there.
Once you open the app again all service will be restarted. The first option is easy and straight forward

I know man i was just trying to make a point about still needing task killers, look what permissions greenify needs to do that now: usage access, draw over apps, accessibility permission... Horrific permisions... Android even asked for my fingerprint when giving it accessibility permission and said it needs it cause of encryption...
If that was native in Android (no background running option per app) that would be great.
Might even partially fix poor ram managment in Android...

Grr and how to view what's consuming cpu? Show cpu usage doesn't work properly on nougat s7 for example. And the included ram manager is poor and it slowly refreshing

For ram usage use running services in developer options.
I totally agree with you, moving on to a newer system broke a lot of apps...

Hi, updating here to -1. Agree with posters above, built in is a pita to use.
My old task killer was click app, click kill, job done :good:
Also really useful to quickly see what was running right now and those naughty apps that restarted themselves
Someone must have a decent easy task killer for rooted Nougat
Updating again: Advanced Task Manager free is working just not the pro version I paid for. Looks like they care more about the ads than their paying users. Ok for me anyway. Rooted phones don't have ads
In Android 7.0 Google once again has made undocumented changes and has significantly restricted access to the proc file system. This means that since this new API level it is not possible anymore to retrieve processes info. Task Managers running on devices with Android 7.0 will only show total CPU usage, their own CPU usage and memory usage, but not CPU usage for other processes. Star this Android issue to push Google to implement an alternative API.

Maybe a CPU/RAM monitor that should work in Nougat
I was looking for a CPU monitor before upgrading a TV-Box to Nougat and I found his thread in meantime it seem (I have not tested it) that "System Panel 2" should work with rooted device even with Nougat: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sp
