I was just wondering if the pre-installed file manager is actually capable of moving files around to different folders? Lol I've tried playing around with it but can't actually seem to find a way to do it. I feel stupid even asking the question Haha I know I can just install one from the Play Store but I just wanna be sure before I do that

I've already done searches for this, but I just haven't found a simple answer for a newbie like me.
What I want is to keep the weather in the tab like it is on the stock HTC home, but I want to be able to choose my city by zip code. I'd also like to be able to get radar images.
Is there an easy way to do this?
Also, it would be really cool if there was an option to have it show weather based on your GPS location.
Thanks!
theres no "newbie" way...you have to get the file from your phone's "Windows" folder (using file explorer), get it on a real computer, and edit the file using notepad...just copy the format already there for your city, save it, and put it back where you found it in the windows folder...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187
Once again, a person who isnt looking hard enough in the forums...

In all fairness, the search function on this site sucks. I've resorted to using google to search "forum.xda-developers.com" under advanced search.

Hey thanks for the link.
But, what I would REALLY like, that I haven't seen posted yet, is instead of having to input a city is if the weather would just update based on GPS location. Is anyone working on this? Or is there currently an available modification to the HTC home weather for this? I think that would be the cat's ass.
Thanks again!

Why you think a cat's ass is a good thing is beyond me...
I live with four cats and I avoid their asses as much as possible!
Hi all, my first post!
Obviously u can tell by my nickname that i'm a long time symbian user, trying wm for the 1st time in a long long while.
Anyway, i was wondering if there's a way to change the file extension usingi the phone itself. Im trying to change a .zip to .theme but i cant figure out the proper way to do it. I know i can do this easily using a pc but im at work and cant do that stuff here, so im wondering if there's a way to do it using the phone without downloading another application to do it.
Oh, and yes, i did do a search for this already. Couldnt pinpoint exactly what im looking for.
Thanks!
Use resco explorer
i downloaded 2008 Resco Explorer, but cant figure out how to change the file extension...
oh well, i guess this is one not too many are familiar with.

No, it's just too obvious for most people to bother with. Go to the file you want to change, hold the stylus or your finger down on the and a menu will pop up. Scroll down to "rename". Then name it whatever you want.
Not so obvious if you read the entire question.

Renaming the file is not the issue. It's the extension.
I don't use resco, but it's trivial with total commander.
Is there such an app that exists that will allow you to password lock your gallery everytime you want to access it? This includes photos and videos.
ie: a girl im on a date with likes my phone and wants to play around with it, i dont want her going thru my gallery and seeing pics of me and other girls.
there is an app called lokpix or lokpixlite that you can set up to password protect pictures you don't want people to see. It takes them out of your gallery and puts them in it's own gallery inside the app. Then anyone can look at your gallery minus the hidden pics.

Ok fair enough, Photovault is one of the better ones.
it's not free, but its a small price to pay for not getting busted
I use file cover, it also locks videos.

- use Astro File Manager.
- creat a new folder, put stuff you dont want anyone to see in there.
- put a . in front of the folder. ie: .Private
- that folder can't be view in the Gallery, only Astro can.

Nice, thanks.
You can also put a blank file named ".nomedia" (no quotes) in any folder you dont want to show up in gallery/music/etc (but will show up in astro or similar)
i tried to create a folder named .Private , but it seems that Windows doesnt like this. It keeps telling me to type a folder name. Any1 else having problems creating a folder with a "." infront of their filename

Right because that's not a valid folder name in windows. You need to do it on your device (using a file manager program such as astro, or terminal emulator by typing something like mkdir /sdcard/images/.pron/). You could also use ADB from your computer and shell in and use mkdir that way.

You have to create a file inside the folder you wanna hide named .Private (or .nomedia).
I'm using a .nomedia file inside my 'files' folder. My wife doesn't see the need for porn on my phone, but what does she know?
Besides, I don't need my 3 year old finding such things. That would be awkward to explain...
Hi forum...
I have not yet figured out how to make playlists from within the phone...
- it seems to me that none of the players are able to do that, and i have not found any in marked working eigther...
I live in denmark, and have only access to free apps...
Is the only way to use S/E "media go" for this ??
(1) You can simply create playlist files (*.m3u) using your comp and then put them in your music folder.
(2) You can use Astro File Manager (free app) to create playlists. See instructions here. This allows you to select multiple mp3s at the same time, and add to playlist.
(3) I also use the MusicGo player, which allows you to add 1 mp3 at a time to a playlist.
I haven't found any app that allows you to edit your playlists though.
Astro file manager, by click multi then select folder and click music logo and select "create playlist".
Or use "Just Playlist" from Market
you´re making this post without going to market and search for playlist???
sry but thats always the wrong way.
i dont really understand this post...
if there is anything your phone couldnt go to market search for it.
if you cant find anything try search in forum otherwise make a post^^
but if you type "playlist" in market you will find the app "just playlists"
Hi forum...
Thanks for the info to ashirokung and hush66, i will try astro file manager...
I didn´t know that astro could be used for this, i use OI file manager, but i will try astro now...

I actually did exactly this, search the marked, search the forum and search the web, and i did find some odd solutions, not really any usefull anyway...
One of the playlist builders i found, was scanning the entire SD, and made a playlist with ALL sounds on the SD...
An other one was a odd one, with 4-5 sliders making automatic playlists based on your mood, also not usefull...
Last but not least i tried S/E media go, and this works great BUT i would like to be able to make playlists from within my phone...

Here in Denmark and with firmware 026 (dont know if it perhaps is one or the other that is the problem), i don´t see anything like "just playlists" in the marked...
And if it is a payed app, then that proberbly is the reason...!
Have a nice day, and thanks for all the answers...
download the attachment. there you can find two exe-files in it ("make","remove")
you only have to drag and drop a folder on the "make.exe" and it will generate a playlist in the folder
and the "remove.exe" is for removing the playlist
Hey guys:
I've got tons of comicbooks on my storage card that keeps showing up as individual folders in my picture gallery. I know I could drop a "no media" file in the main folder to stop it, but then my other apps wont read anything in that folder as well correct? Is their any way to exclude the comicbook folder from the gallery?
thanks

+1 ................
call me crazy, but I have a feeling the easiest solution is to create a .nomedia file and put it in the folder you want to hide.... ooooor I could be 100% wrong.

You are crazy ;-) does not work here.
This does not solve your problem, but may be an alternate solution. I use a gallery replacement called QuickPic. Inside of QuickPic you can choose which folders are hidden so you only see the ones you want.

I've heard of QuickPic. But I really like the stock Gallery. And if I put a no media file in that folder,, my comicbook reader apps wont see the files either right?
Actually, all you have to do is rename the folder or file and put a "." at the start of the name. So a folder called "my_pron" renamed ".my_pron" won't show up
It's probably worth noting that you should do the rename on your tab and not from your PC, I had problems with it not working when I did it via my PC, that's why I mention it. I used Astro File manager and it works just fine.

It's a program designed to be more along the lines of hiding naughty things, but it would allow you to move all your comics into a side gallery type section, plus once their there you can subdivide them into their own folders AGAIN so that you have individual comics in mini-galleries, with sorting by name or date possible to make for easy ordering.

Noteworthy item is that with the EI22 update yesterday, my app got wiped with the rest of my phone, but upon re-installing it and going through new-startup steps it found the SD card data from my previous installation - yay SD card!

I have a app similar to this called Hide & Sneek. But I have to unhide pics everytime I need to use it. Will Keep safe allow me to hide the comics just from the Gallery , but let them be used in the Combook reader?
Quit trying to hide the pron from her and you won't have issues! Or just if ya get caught freak out and claim you must have a virus!
