I'm running ViperROM 1.8.0 and no matter what I do I cannot get the CRT screen-off animation to work. I have 2 apps that do this (possibly more that I've forgotten about), one being the obvious; Venom Tweaks and two being Sense 6 Toolbox. I originally figured that them both having it enabled was interfering with it but I was wrong. I've disabled both and re-enabled each one individually and still cannot get the CRT power off animation or even the Fade one for that matter. I'm also quite sure that I've gotten it previously but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it back nor am I sure if it was even the same ROM I managed to get it with (all though I am quite sure I managed to do it with 1.8.0 too).
How & or what do I need to do to get it? I love the animation as it just adds life to the phone to me.
Bump & another question, is it possible to get a kernel module like in the ElementalX kernel to use swipe up to wake or double tap to wake without the motion requirements??
Bumpppp

Did you reboot or soft reboot after you enabled it in sense 6 toolbox?

Yes
Well that's odd. I have both enabled on my M8 that is only rooted via weaksauce.
Let me take a quick guess.
You have animations all set to off?
Or at least the "Animator Duration Scale"
It's like this on 4.4.4 AOSP as well.
You must have this set to at least the minimum, the other two animation scales may be left off.
If you have animations on, then please ignore this lol.

Yes I turned that one back on and it fixed it, thank you! I had no idea that was even related to the screen off animations lol. Never thought I'd get this one solved or it'd be something as simple as that

Glad I could help.
It's actually been this way all the way back on HTC Sense 2.1, possibly even before that but I think I remember it becoming an issue on the HTC Inc2 with Sense 2.1.

Where is the setting that sets the lockscreen timeout to 15 seconds? I still have a huge issue with pocket dialing and would love to adjust it down to 2 seconds (improve battery life as well). I know that it's not in the apk since the default android timeout is the same with the htclockscreen deleted.
Is this a kernel issue that can't be addressed until the source is released?
Thanks for your time.

The timeout should be in the display section of settings.
It actually most likely is part of the apk. HTC modified the settings apk to add the scenes feature in there. Most likely they either modified that part too or, even more likely, they just read the settings for the lock screen in their lock screen apk. Either way, this is what would need to be modified to allow for adjusting of the timeout. Now, that said, there may be a plethor of other places that need to be modified to allow for this change to actually work. Right now this would be a lower priority.
There is already a 15sec lockout option. Go Menu>Sound & Display>Screen Timeout (will be at the bottom of the page).

So you're saying that on a vanilla build of android there is a setting for the lockscreen timeout, and that the default android lockscreen is part of the settings.apk?

Not the screen timeout, the lockscreen timeout. In my pocket the menu button can be pressed, then pressed again within a 15 second window to wake the device and magically start dialing. I would like to cut that 15 seconds down to a realistic 2-3 seconds.
That's a good idea and I'm interested to hear if it's possible.

I commend you then, I didn't last an hour inputting the damn thing every few minutes just to read a text message...but of course I don't need my phone to be that secure so the annoyance > necessity
That said, the lockscreen should be able to accommodate the both of us, and I'm just looking for a solution that works for me.

And I was simply suggestion a possible solution. Also I have my lockscreen timeout set to 1min.
My personal recommendation: follow the directions in the thread on deleting unwanted apps to root your Hero, remount the filesystem so you can delete HtcLockScreen.apk, then buy LockbotPro & install it instead. The current version is a little buggy in the way it handles reboots (after you reboot, the Android non-HTC lockscreen becomes re-enabled and "first in line"), but it's not too hard to fix when it happens, and it works wonderfully the rest of the time.
To fix it after rebooting, you basically swat away the default Android lockscreen (menu-menu), launch Lockbot, launch its settings menu, un-check "enable lockbot", return to home, relaunch Lockbot, launch its settings menu, re-check "enable lockbot", and you're done. Looking at the changelog, it appears that the bug I just described is a fairly recent new bug, and it looks like the author is releasing updates every couple of days trying to fix it.
Note that Lockbot will "kind of" work if you don't root & delete HTC's lockscreen... but it won't work well because HTC's lockscreen is pretty aggressive about defending its turf. It's a night & day difference. (Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but as they say... there's no zealot like the reformed sinner. If I'd known how easy it would be to fix the #1 thing I hated about my Hero, I'd have done it the afternoon the first "how to root the CDMA Hero" hit the net
I can definitely say that my overall happiness & satisfaction increased dramatically after I did it. It sounds petty, but HTC's dysfunctional/useless lock screen (backed up by Android1.5's annoying & tedious default) really did annoy me to the point where I was starting to dislike my Hero. Rooting & replacing them with Lockbot really made a difference.
Thanks for the recommendation, nice to see I'm not the only one annoyed with the default lockscreen issue.
I tried out LockBot all day yesterday but it still has one major flaw, any/every button will wake the device (not just 'menu' and 'power'). Each time I pulled the phone out of my pocket the screen was on, pretty sure it's the trackball constantly getting tapped in my pocket.
Had to delete it due to battery drain. Still looking for a solution
Hey guys I am running the latest adw ex launcher on a Nexus S with the modaco rom on it and I have noticed that I dont have then screen shut off animation anymore. Is it something that I am missing or can someone lead me in the right direction into getting this fixed.

Sounds like a settings thing, maybe in the settings for ADW or more likely Spare Parts (on Modaco) you have the animations turned off.

Setting them to fast in Spare Parts also disables the animation. Make sure it's set to medium or lower.
Thanks I got it
Hello xda forums, I joined the ranks of the rooted Thunderbolt users last night and choose gingeritis 1.0 as my first ROM. So Far I love it but have 2 issues that are somewhat annoying.
1.) The vibrate on keystroke in the keyboard will not turn Off, It is unchecked in settings but still vibrates when I type.
2.) I am using the Weather live wallpaper and whenever I unlock my phone it plays a sound even with the sound on weather disabled.
thanks!

fix all issues
i had this problem and a charging problem and well quite a few others nothing to extreme but i decided i was going to find out why, i had originally flashed this rom at the same time as the radio so i backed up and reflashed the rom that fixed all my issues completely.
I Flashed and it seemed to help the audio issue, untill I set the lockscreen to weather and the sound returned, it appears to be the lockscreen with the issue of playing the sound.
For the weather sounds there is an option under the weather settings to disable it, and as for weather animations you have to remove the clock widget and re-add it, it will then ask you if you want to enable the weather animation or not. If the setting for sounds isn't working, try turning it on and off again. I'm not sure if this will help, but I got mine to successfully go away.
Had the same problems on Gingeritis but it's working fine now

It appears the weather sound is coming from using the weather lock screen, any other lock screen does not play the weather sound. I have enabled and disabled the sound frequently without luck, but it only plays the sound if the weather lockscreen is used.

Awesome. I'll give you a thanks when I get to my computer.
also just a side note ive seen many people flash this rom and the mr2 radio at the same time and not have the white behind the text on notifications making them very hard to read. hope this helps a simple reflash fixes it all
Well it seems the weather sound is back even when not unlocking, it appears to be appearing when the weather background updates...
Just got my OTA update for ICS. The stock lock screen has the camera and unlock icons to the left and right so I'm wondering: Is there a way to customize the lock screen by changing the apps you can slide to or by adding different apps to the other directions?
There should be, just seems odd having a free floating circle that only has options to the left and right.
I want a silent/vibrate option there.
I would really love to know this too.
The one thing they've done is that you can pull the status bar right from the lock screen. This gives you access to text, voice mail, calls and other notifications. So if you have a power widget on the status bar you could do all you need from the lock screen.
it will be nice to have two more slides on lock screen... for favorite app and for something else...
The only way (at the moment) to do a Silient mode from the lock screen is to long press the power button, the options are there below the power off option.
I've had to get use to doing it this way, other than putting widgetlocker or other lock screen app on the phone.
I don't think anything like that exists in the stock experience... There is another option. Go ahead and try Widgetlocker. If you can wait CM9 may introduce something to customize the lock screen. It seems like something that they'd include
+1 for WidgetLocker.
In my experience though, I didn't quite like how much RAM it used up so I ended up getting rid of it after awhile. But give it a shot and if you don't mind it constantly running in the background then stick with it.

I never had a significant loss of battery loss even while Widgetlocker ran in the background oddly enough. The speed wasn't affected either... Then again I was on CM7. I hear the CM9 people are going to add some settings for the lockscreen on ICS too, which means some more icons for the slider and stuff

Well, for me, widgetlocker didn't take a lot of RAM nor my battery significantly lasted shorter. I highly recommend widgetlocker to anybody... Too bad that's it's not free :/
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
While I applaud Google for adding the camera icon to the lockscreen, I wish they had kept the silent mode toggle. Considering the design of the ICS lockscreen, it would be simple enough to add additional shortcuts.
I would also appreciate a solution to this. I could swear there were more options than unlock and camera.
This is an old post to reopen. Root and flash CM9's newest nightly. Loads of lock screen options to customize!

Exactly. GummyNex also has some pretty cool CM7 style lock screens , like the Ring one.
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
GummyNex (1.2.1 - 4.0.4)
Matrix Kernel (CFS - 20.0)
Intellidemmand (1000/100)
Deep Idle (Off - Noop)
Live OC - 100 (800/1000)
Well if you have a rooted phone. try downloading CM9 nightlies or wait for the v8 stable version, or any other rom that support 4.04 with customized locker screen. It will allow you to add other features to your lock screen. Eg phone, calender, favourites and even weather under the superclock.
Your stuck if you dont have a rooted phone but im guessing it will come out sooner or later. Or not.. Depends on google

I may be completely wrong, but I don't think you can get that on stock. Take a look at developer options and see if you can change something there. I've never used xposed but I've seen the option to change screen off animations on custom roms. There may be an app that does this, but you'd probably need root.
Well I'd imagine there's a way to modify a file to do it on stock.

If you were able to modify said file, I think you'd still need the screen fade animation (whatever file that may be) to be able to see it in effect. I'm no expert though.
Pretty sure if you turn animations off in developer options it'll stop it. Havent checked.
