[Q] which honeycomb should I buy ?

well just asking because I dont know which tablet should I buy. right now Im thinking in the ASUS transformer but im not sure about it because of the lightbleed issues and other stuff
so just give some responses about it and tell me which tab is best !
Top contender at the moment is the Galaxy Tab.
I was going to get a Galaxy Tab 10.1 because it seems to be the best Android tablet at the moment. At the last minute I changed my mind and got an iPad. I know that sounds like blasphemy, but it really is awesome.
*prepares to be flamed*
So if you're going to buy Android, I would go with the Galaxy. I tried a Xoom and it felt a little laggy.
Im out of budget to buy the galaxy tab Im actually not a U.S citizen and the galaxy tab is really expensive here . so my selection is between : motorola xoom , Asus transformer , aser iconia , and thats it

honestly, if it's between those tabs i would get the Acer Iconia...it has the same specs as the Xoom PLUS a usb port for a fraction of the cost...and as i read another response, the Xoom does feel a little bit laggy at first (top reason i rooted and overclocked it to 1.3ghz a core...no more lag) but after an overclock runs great!! but if you're looking for something quick out of the box with no mods, go with the Iconia...fraction of the cost of a Xoom with the same specs and a little more
Well for me i will prefer asus eepad transformer coz u have both laptop & tablet in one function some more u have double the battery 8 hours on tablet & another 8 hours when u dock back to keyboard for total 16 hours juice!!!

I need your advice about transformer......

Hi everyone
How Are You!
I hope u r good.
I'm abt to buy a new tablet ( my 1st one ) and i'm little bet confused between transformer 3G ( on top of the list )and Galaxy tab 3G( 10.1 or 8.9 doesn't matter ).
I need your advice abt which to buy.
Does tf 3g has a root?
Do the available roms work on tf 3g?
Does it support USB, External HDD ?
Transformer owners, Does Weight of tf make it difficult to hold on your hands ( Galaxy tab 2 is lighter )?
Thanks in advance
and Sorry for my English
Regards,
N
being a senior member...one would think u should know by now to search and read the forums...the answers are out there...
For TF101, it is not hard to handle by single hand, normal adult perspective.

Yes the Razorclaw exploit appears to work with the TF101G but it seems you must stay with stock kernals (no overclocking) at least for now. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of.
It may just be the 8.9 gtab, but its really laggy. the gtab 10.1 is also having lots of complaints about the screens (oil slicks/newtons rings). Really think samsung have over killed touchwizz on them aswell. Samsungs lack of support for the tabs is shocking and as a previous 7" gtp1000 owner its one of the main reasons i changed to the Tf.
I'd rather pay a small amount extra for a tf with the keyboard dock rather than the 2 gtabs - its much better value imo with excellent connectivity...........the Samsungs have nothing really, hence the units estate slimness.

Thanks friends, Really appreciate your help
I think TF is the best choice
but regarding the size, many reviews abt tf on youtube, i see it's bigger than enough.
Is it really that big or it seems to be big ( i mean in realty, it's different from that on youtube )
I dont think its that big at all. Size wise its the same as every other 10" tablet out there(acer, ipad 1, sammy, knockoffs).
Weight though...It's a tad on the heavier side of this class. The "sturdiness" more than makes up for that though. Dropped this thing numerous times on the same floors where ive seen ipads crack and an acer a500 dent and i have one TIMY ding about the size of a pencil tip.
I was worried about the honeycomb lag compared to ipads but after root and a new rom(revolver). Happy as can be. This thing is around me more than my Evo 3D
get the TF. You wont be disappointed.
Why is it that everyone thinks their very obvious Q&A post should be considered General. Does it mean that they misunderstand the definition of the word question?
I understand that there can be a language gap as many users on XDA (especially this forum) are not native-English speakers. But the rules are the rules - they say "SEARCH BEFORE POSTING." Pretty clear!

[Q] Run Ubuntu natively on Galaxy Note 10.1

I rooted my Galaxy Note 10.1 (N8010) and I ran Ubuntu on top of android using Complete Linux Installer app
I wanna know if you can install and run ubuntu NATIVELY on the galaxy note 10.1 because I know people have installed ubuntu natively on the Asus Transformer pad, and I dont see why cant this device handle it.
So developers please answer this!!!!

Hi! I'm also looking for a native build of Ubuntu for the Galaxy Note 10.1 but what I wanna ask you is the performance of chroot. Are you able to type in LibreOffice without a lag? I'm one click away from ordering a device and I really need a full office suite for educational reasons (I'm a student).
What is more, my own hopes are about another way of getting better Ubuntu. The project you use (linux on android) aims to have native video output for some devices and it might be really better than a fully native Ubuntu. The GUI will be fast but at the same time Android will stay one click away with full support etc. What do you think?
hi there,
im a student too. my aim was to buy the TF300T at first. then when i went to the shop, the staff told me that the TF300T batch was full of returns because it was pretty sh**ty So i decided to buy the N8010 (Galaxy Note 10.1)
which is really better than the transformer because it has 2gb ram all the other cool features.like s pen and all that. i wanted to buy the transformer because it came with the keyboard dock which you can turn it into sorta netbook then i could take it to school or something. i was planning on installing ubuntu on it but ye.
so when i got this galaxy note 10.1, i rooted it and ran ubuntu like mentioned about. honestly, there is a slight lag but its not that extreme. only like milisecond(s) lag. *no other apps were running except for terminal emulator, vnc viewer and complete linux installer.
i think this is capable of doing more because literally ran a minecraft server in there LOL it loaded up pretty fast. but i havent connected into it and played yet. youtube video is working. which means it has flash support. my screen protector should arrive today so i can play around more with it. i'll load up ubuntu again. post some screen shots and maybe a video if u need one
the resources manages shows all four cores in the cpu and shows 1.8* of ram. which is good. and more than 1.2gb was available when i was running the office suite that was there.
Summary:
This is good for a start, im hoping to see developers start working on Galaxy Note 10.1 more and more. (i think its just this is still new cuz it only came out recently)
This device is really good for school. Snote app has so many features infact the device has 'samsung features' which i still havent touched on
Hoping to see some thirdparty keyboard docks for this since the samsung one is about 90-100 dollars (USD) i believe and about about 120-150dollars here in australia :/
I think the reason for the transformer pad to have native support cuz asus gave out the source code on their website ? *once i was in there website and it told me to choose the OS between android and other os*
which i belive u can install another os pretty much.
asus also had kinda a bios sorta menu when u boot it up.
hope that helps
if u wanna know anything else, simply reply

In the case of Transformers, ASUS had open-sourced the bootloader and it was capable of booting something different than Android from scratch. That's a different story for Samsung GN 10.1, but we have a chance for native build since Samsung is developing drivers for the Exynos platform and more or less the bootloader they have is open-sourced or cracked.
As for the OFFTOPIC about learning, thank you a lot for your reply! If you can post a video of LibreOffice typing experience, it would be nice but there are a lot on YouTube already and impression is more important than videos. Personally, I have used on other N-trig tablets LectureNotes (non-free app from market) and Quill(fully open-source) and I find them many times better than S Note.
BTW, once Canonical should release the Ubuntu for Android official project, m?
I think I'll buy one SGN and join you in the battle for better software
I made a video of it
hey,
I made a video of it last night... its in Full HD but dsnt have my voice.(has background music) im still getting used to making videos and putting it up on youtube :
I'll start uploading it now.. theres about 1.01GB so might take some hours to upload
I was watching that video on XDA TV, about Samsung hating XDA, apparently samsung limiting their source codes and all that...I dunno whats gonna happen
anyway wish this was like the asus transformer where you can run other os
we just have to hope for the best :fingers-crossed:
Yes im waiting till ubuntu releases the version for android ! i've seen their official video and its really awesome
Niceee when are you going to buy it ?
P.S. oh sh**t i'm sorry, it wasn't libre office it was open office since i had downloaded ubuntu 10.1 not 12
im pretty sure it would be the same experience with typing...
:fingers-crossed:hoping more people will buy SGN 10.1 and devs will start working on it:fingers-crossed:
video will be at

What's your upload speed? I want to see the lag and then go to the store, so I'm waiting for your video.
Have seen two guys with SGN in the tram on the way to university, so the popularity comes very fast to the device.
Hello,
Im sorry to tell u this but something went wrong with youtube and it said the video was deleted :S
so im uploading it again. I faxed google and sent them a email but no reply. so uploading again.
upload speed is like 0.40mbps (speedtest) and ye
Its nice to see that its getting popular
Video
May be it would be faster not to upload Full HD? Otherwise, you will be uploading 1 gig my whole life
dam, im sorry
its 41% and about 311 mins remaining..
I'll see if i can let you stream the video from my pc, that way its easier
sorry again....
Hopefully this upload doesnt fail and if it does (hope it doesnt) but if it does i'll upload low quality..
Full hd video :d

Hello,
If you want to root the Stock ICS XSA for N8010, you will have to download the firmware from : http://www.hotfile.com/dl/177420056/592b6c1/N8010XWALI6_N8010XSAALI1_XSA.zip.html and root it your self.
I have attached the rooting files (thanks to zedomax ) and extract the files to a folder. and follow zedomax's instructions.
Hope this helps...
BUT this will not get rid of the Samsung user interface. If you want to get rid of the STOCK SAMSUNG STUFF, you will have to consider flashing CM10
I wrote a tutorial here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958621
thumbs up!
Great news for tablet owners. Ubuntu will support Nexus 7. So Tegra 3 devices first and maybe Exinox later...
I really hope Team Hacksung will jump into this and make out tablet the best device ever. It will be much better then any W8 RT device because of Ubuntu ARM repositories, lots and lots of app (Libre Office, Gimp, VLC..etc).
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Nexus7
Wow thanks for this info im looking forward for ubuntu to be come available on my galaxy note 10.1
Any update on this? That is a real shame no one ported Ubuntu to Note 10.1 when there is Ubuntu running even of Asus Transformer TF101. Lack of drivers?
I dont really know honestly. Its just maybe the devs arnt putting much attention to this... WHY ? i dont know. its a great device. better that transformer pad TF300T.... its new.. and 2gb ram and all that. can handle ubuntu very well i suppose. even the nexus 7 got native from Ubuntu officially.. comeon devs!!!

It would be better if there was a native distro of Ubuntu for this. Ubuntu running on top of android maybe laggy (with your requirements). I still dont understand why developers arnt looking into this If u have a good internet connection at home you can use Splashtop to stream your pc into the tablet. all the touch features work. Its free for local use but if u want to use it remotely (pc at home and tablet at workplace) theres a membership for it.

I rekon since note 10.1 is abit new they havent made native ubuntu. I got rid of samsungs os and installed cyanogenmod 10 on it. Its jellybean .and way more smoother and faster. Yes pressure sensitivity is working. U can also use the stylus as the cursor (mouse) while hovered on top of the screen without touching the screen. Minor bugs but i use it and i use lecturenotes from the google play for my school... I wrote a tut on how to install cyanogenmod since people couldnt flash that rom thru clockworkmod. Hope this helps

[Q] HELP ... I am a gadgetaholic

I need this, right??? I have the Galaxy Note and have rooted it but honestly .. I use my iphone 4s 99% of the time. I also have the ipad and have been looking forward to what the ipad mini will be like. I have NOT bought the ipad 3 or the iphone 5 .. I am a gadgetaholic but not a sucker. Also have a rooted original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch .. haven't used it in a long long time ...
I was watching a Samsung Note 10.1. At first I didn't see that there was also a 3G model. Once I saw that there was I am ready to buy one... WANT IT NOW !!! One thing that has me questioning this purchase is the problems with the pen. The pen is one of the main reasons I would have for buying this note other than my addiction. But if the pen doesn't work, may as well put up with my ipad until the problem is fixed.
Here is my MAIN question. Is it possible to use the pen on something like an excel spreadsheet and is the handwriting recognition anything like on a windows tablet where I can write my emails ?? Maybe I can search more videos but in case they don't answer my questions I don't want to jump the gun and purchase ... I have a few days off from work and would love to spend a day with it rather than ship it to my office ..

That's VERY GOOD to hear. Can you write on the spreadsheet?? Or just highlight or none of the above? I use Excel a lot ..
in my opinion ..
I'm not saying anything about the Note .. , " I don't have it , hopefully Next month :> "
but I think having many gadgets from the same category .. " like many tablets , many mobiles etc "
that makes yo work slower and unfocused ..
but maybe It's just my opinion .. , I never tried that and I might be definitely wrong .. =)

You are VERY CORRECT .. EXAMPLE, sometimes I can't remember what computer I was using and if I am looking for a file or email I might have to check more than one computer .. I try to save all important pictures etc to a thumb drive. With apple - everything is "in the cloud" and what I save on one computer saves to all APPLE computers. I still can't stop myself from buying sometimes.

ORDERED IT ... not only am I a gadgetaholic, I am like a kid at Christmas. I want it NOW .. so it is coming OVERNIGHT tomorrow - I even have the day off so I can stay home from work and play with it .. I think that when I have this I -might- be able to sell my little Note ... For talking I have always preferred my iphone .. iPhone isn't good for much except telephone and camera .. that's all I do with my phone. The note was a little overkill for me -- but that could change once I have the Note 10.1
in this case I would suggest mixing systems ...I know IOS has pros and Android has pros too ..
so keep one IOS and one Android ..
like Iphone/Android tablet .. , Or android phone/Ipad ..
that would be good .. :>
yo can also use Drop box as a cloud to save your files between Android and IOS .. , and also PC .. weather it's MAC or windows .. " I'm not sure about mac but like 90% sure "
and .. hope yo enjoy it .. ^^
does drop box sync your phone book etc ?? Sometimes I carry a different computer every day - Macbook Air 13" / Samsung Slate 7 / iPad2 / iPhone4s / Lenovo << rarely / Galaxy Tab 7" / Samsung Note and COMING SOON the Note 10.1 ... YAY ..
