[Q] How to update nightly update of CyanogenMod without losing any files? - Sony Xperia L

I want to update the latest CyanogenMod NIGHTLY update without losing any files. How can I do this?
Should I just flash the NIGHTLY update zip and then clean system cache and dalvik cache?
Please tell me the correct procedure.

1. Flash cm11-xxxxxxxx-NIGHTLY-taoshan.zip via recovery
2. Wipe only cache & dalvik cache
3. Done
If you use the CM Updater from Settings -> about phone -> CyanogenMod updates it will all be done for you. Just follow instructions.

CM Updater not working.

I previously tried the CM updater, whenever I update using it then I get bootloop, then I have to clean install the the ROM. Why is it happening?
I will try installing using recovery.

Are you using a custom kernel like ThunderZap/Phantom? Because you have to reflash it every rime you update. You can best use CyanDelta for it instead of CM updater.

No, make sure to flash Phantom after you installed the update. CyanDelta has a option to do it automatically.

I tried the CM updater and then flashed Phantom kernel, then I got a dialog box on the boot saying
"Android is upgrading
Finishing Boot"
and it is stuck here.
Then I tried installing from recovery using these steps
1. Delete Cache/Dalvik Cache
2. Install from ZIP
3. Delete Cache/Dalvik Cache
Now I got the same message that "Finishing boot"
I waited on this screen for more than 30 mins still nothing happened, so I removed the battery and I got bootloop.
Finally I had to restore my old NIGHTLY update
What is happening??
please help me

I installed only the NIGHTLY. Will try again
But there is a problem when I install Phantom then my Recovery changes from CWM to Philz Touch and the Sony logo changes to Phantom.
How to get back my CWM and Sony Logo? I don't like Philz touch and Phantom logo

You can ask the dev if he/she can compile a version with the Sony logo & CWM. Other than that, there's no solution.

Any chance for an Odexed base?
I tried again to install and just sat on the boot screen and tried again after booting back into recovery and clearing dalvik cache same result, has anyone else successfully booted? If so tell me how you proceeded on install, I formatted data and cache then wiped boot and did clean install, it did install but just stayed on boot animation, let it run for at least 10 minutes but never booted into Rom,

[Q] Problem installing ROMs (status 0)

I wanted to try a KitKat ROM so i downloaded a couple on PC and transferred to SD card. I did a backup (which really saved me lol) and then, as instructed , formatted system, data, and cache. Wiped Dalvik and flashed ROM (Paranoid Android 4.0). It started but after the "installing update" message I got a error message " error /location of zip/name of zip (status0)". I thought it meant that the zip was corrupted so i downloaded on PC again. Transferred to SD and tried to install following the same stepsand got the error again. After that I tried to install another ROM(Validus 5.1) and still got the error. Decided to restore and see if i could get help before trying again. Any ideas what is wrong? Thanks in advance for any help
EDIT can dev please move I thought i was posting in troubleshooting section. Sorry

Status 7 means that your recovery is out of date. I am running AOSPA Beta4 on my p3113 and installed it using the latest TWRP from the below thread. The version of cwm in that thread should also work.

I am currently using TWRP, but I have used PhilzTouch in the past. They both work pretty well. TWRP has bigger buttons that are spaced out better and has an easier interface to use. PhilzTouch has some other features but isn't as polished. It is just a matter of personal preference. Some Roms will have a recommended recovery listed, though.
Also, to make sure that the zip you download isn't corrupted, check the md5 of the zip you download against the md5 on the download page.

Biggest advantage of using Phillz touch is that it can detect OTG cable,so you can flash ROMs from USB device as well;on the other hand, TWRP allows you to flash 10 zips at the same time,it will release the overhead of selecting Zip one after another manually. So choose your options wisely.
Edit:-
One more thing I would like to add,Phillz touch blackhawk supports dual-booting through next kernel

Just wanted to say thanks again to jrc2. I went with TWRP because backup to sd card was not working on CWM and Philz. Backup would start and in the middle of backing up data or system tab would just reboot. But TWRP looks ok and flashed with no problems.

I tried updating TWRP to the latest version (2.8.5.1) and unfortunately I am still getting "error executing updater binary in zip" when i try to flash the euphoria rom. I am on the latest ota for the OnePlus.
In the console, above the error message, it says "assert failed: oppo.verify_trustzone("TZ.BF.2.0-2.0.0109") == "1"" if that is significant at all.
Thanks for the help
Ok, i flashed CM12 and then wiped and tried to flash Euphoria and it worked!

Just an FYI, the tz assertion error has to do with not being on a cm12 firmware. Flashing the latest nightly automatically installs it for you. But if you want to go back to KitKat, you need to flash the cm11 firmware zip or you'll keep having an SOD
