[Q] iDream 7066 Phablet import from China - UK - General Questions and Answers

Hi Guys,
so after 3 days of research, about 54 hours in so far I have managed much but still got much to conquer
I have found out it has 2 os running on it (or i think it does) samsung note and htc dream. however it is a custom build (v p1000_V052
I have emailed the company i got it from asking for more information on the custom build but being a total noob on this im only so far in on my journey.
Its running 4.2.2 the only main issue with the device is the fact i cant flip the storage from external to internal as i only have 500mb to play with.
ive tried using external 2 internal but i read up it doesn't work on samsung devices which leads me to believe that the main os is the note as i cant flip it.
i am having all be it limited success in installing apps then transferring over to sd card using move to sd card app.
its frustrating that i cant find how to flip my storage over. considering it gives me the option of what storage to use!!
any suggestions?

School and Media Tablet

Hello Everyone,
Yes, I know the dreaded topic! I figured I would post and go search, if I find everything I will delete this!
I am about 6 classes from finishing up my Associates Degree with my GI Bill, yay for free school!
I am in school for IT and am specializing in Cisco so far. I interact with a bunch of pdf files, websites and videos for studying this. I also use ebooks for my various core classes that I can find the class books for online So i am looking for a tablet to read and study with first and foremost.
Secondly being the technology guy I am, I would love a tablet that works well with forums. I often find myself fighting with mobile forums on my phone and just can not stand it. I also love to watch/stream shows and anime. Maybe emulate a snes game here and there.
I also do not need a surface 3 pro, as i have an i7 laptop with 16gb of ram. So this tablet is strictly for the above stuff, of course there is a possibility of using it to send an email and facebook messages but thats nothing special.
A list of things I am sure I would be asked if I did not list them:
10 inch tablet preferred
battery life important
expandable storage(sd card)
I would prefer android
lightweight yet sturdy and wellbuilt
decently fast
the above list are things i figure are important to state.
Anything I may have missed I am sorry, just ask and I will respond!
Regards,
V
I would suggest the Samsung Galaxy Tab S, or the Nexus 10 if you don't mind that much about external storage, maybe a refurbished Nexus 10 would be cheaper. Tablets with SD card slots aren't very easy to find these days.

Well any form of adding memory would work, doesnt have to be an sd card.
I will look at the galaxy tab tho, thanks

[Q] Nexus 5 - Still Worth To Buy ?

Hello everyone ,
As title says I'm interested to know (from "Actual" users) Nexus 5 is still worth to buy. fro my expeience xda is place where people knows what , why and how they are using their phones so I used "Actual"
And yah i know there is general Q&A thread and I tried to ask some individual Qs but unfortunately didn't get any replies Plus I want to make this thread as reference for people like me ( this device is a year older still there are lot of people like me ) . and I did Good research before starting this thread so i will bother you guys where I need real assistance
So ,
nexus 5 vs nexus 6
well nexus 6 surely a great device but as per my requirement i think i don't need "3 Gb RAM & SD805" phone now and near future. I'm not kind of person who fill ups unnecessary background apps.. main background apps i'm using are FB , Tweeter & WhatsApp . so 2Gb ram for multitasking is more than enough IMO and SD800 does great job with heavy games like asphalt 8 (n all from many reviews) ... this is correct even after updating to lollipop right ?
16 vs 32
let me ask about OTG before arriving on storage. nexus 5 has usb otg but connecting pen drive without root is little proble ... we need Nexus media Importer or Total commander + plug In ( as per info i collected )
Is ES file manager ( latest update) works to mount OTG pendrive without root on lollipop ?
and Important question to OTG users : Can we directly download files ( movies , songs ) from internet to OTG mounted pendrive ?
now about storage
i'm using a 16Gb device right now with 12.5 Gb usable and having 8 + Gb free (used 4gb in videos, songs & documents) but i haven't installed any 1 Gb + games so when i'll buy nexus 5 let's say about 6 gb goes to heavy games still i remains with 2 Gb free space. and i'm not fan fo watching movies on phone so i won's put them even in nexus 5 ........ main reason for asking OTG download above is Free WiFi at collage (lol) so if direct download files from internet to OTG mounted pendrive (without root) is possible in nexus 5 then IMO i don't need 32 Gb version....what you say guys ?
Finally is nexus 5 usable without any screen protractors with it's gorilla 3 glass. or it still gets scratches with normal usage ?
( i this back cover is needed because of little out side camera ..right ? )
And howz lollipop working on this device ? ( it should be great as it's nexus ) ( i read some battery problem with few people but IMO it's not that big )
and guys please do reply ... your reply is important
Thanks !

First off, I'd have to say stop seeing the Nexus 5 and 6 as a next gen upgrade. It went from a phone to tablet, and a different manufacturer and went from budget to premium.
It's worth buying.. But I bought mine for 436 USD (with tax) can you get the color and size you want and find a price on GPlay?
Its also definitely worth a case! I used mine normally for 2 weeks without a case and no noticeable scuffs or scratches were found. But I'd say life is life and that a small investment in a case goes a very long way.
Everything runs pretty well on 4.4.4 and up with my experience.

Okey but actually i wasn't comparing them and i don't wanna go this comparison in this thread thats why i didn't even ask that should i consider n6 ? Becuase i think n5 is still better option i only asked that it's performing same gr8 with lollipop ?

Depending on the amount of money you're comfortable paying, and the size of the devices should be your main concern. If you can spend extra and don't mind if your phone is big, go N6.
Want a cheap, high-end device with a medium sized screen? Go N5.
Lollipop is pretty stable so far from how long I've used it before.
And sorry, didn't mean to say I thought you were comparing them. I mean if you are looking at it that way, you shouldn't. (For anyone else reading too) I once thought they were direct upgrades of each other -- until I read the spec sheets and pricing.

Actually i was considering n6 but after seeing it's actually HUGE size and not worthy specs ( except camera ) i changed my mind and i will surely go for n5 now... sd805 n 3gb ram is only useful for excessive gamers n user with many background apps and i'm non of them
Anyway i'm striking out n6 from OT so no one confuses with comparison
It's still a worthy phone. Any reason you don't want to root it? For many it's the key point of getting a Nexus device.
Yes, buy it, I bought mines about a month ago, and I have nothing bad to say about it. I cam from a Note 3, and I love getting the latest updates on the Nexus devices.

it's not that i don't wont to but with lollipop root is not good till now chainfire root method patches kernel and i read many people saying that it adversely affect performance ( don't know it's right or not ) plus with art that is not much to do with root ... no xposed so no easy modification , and debloating well we can disable apps without root now and it's same as debloat (except debloat gives extra space on /system but it'll remain empty with out any use )
2 things i will miss for Not rooting are hosts file & custom kernel but thing i should give stock one some time
plus root will also break warranty ( in nexus will it ? )

Root will not break your warranty through the play store. If you buy it somewhere else and have to return it to LG it might. It's so easy to unroot this thing and reset the tamper flag though. The only reason not to root this thing is if your employer checks the device. Even then there's ways around that.
I had 5.0 rooted since it first came out. It's never been an issue. There's tons of folks here who use stock rom and kernel but still root. It just allows you to use apps to make life easier. Like stickmount in your case. Or a custom kernel that has OTG implemented. I can say for certain that with my setup I can DL straight to my OTG card. I have the 32GB model and still use OTG but I'm a memory hog with my music.

Thankyou for conforming that DL directly to OTG is working... and may i know which setup you are using ?
I think i won't get one from playstore as they are "out of stock" plus they cost ~50$ more than other sellers ... but i think replacement warranty and accidential break warranty ( are they giving this one on n5 ? ) is from playstore only
And what is employer check for root ?
In my opinion I'd say the N5 is still a very capable phone.
Had mine for just under a year now.
I was rooted for a while with xposed and other addons installed, updated to lollipop a few weeks ago and its back to stock now with no root.
My N5 is faster than my note 4,
The camera and battery arnt great but still takes decent pictures and I get can manage with the battery life for most of the day ,charging it in the car in the afternoon if needs be.
I just ordered myself a Nexus 5 32gb. Got it for 380 euros. My decision was mainly based on the good price for the storage and the build quality seems resistent and quite nice, with a rubber-y feel on the back. Also, the thought of unlocking it and having lots of support from the community was a pro.
Actually I wouldn't buy a Nexus 5 at the moment. For nearly the same price you could get a better phone..
I still like the Nexus 5

that!
my phone is half a year old and has no scratches although sometimes is wear my keys in the same pocket
I would consider picking one up on ebay for about 250.00 USD... I got a 32gb one in absolute mint/new condition... They are out there you just have to be patient and look at each auction, "buy it now" at the sweet spot price helps, regular auctions can tend to go 300+ dollars... The money I saved I picked up a seidio case and have never been happier...
If I didn't have a nexus 5 already, I'd get a one plus one. Since I already do, I'm waiting for the one plus two next year

I can't say that its worth buy, but there is no other mobile to replace Nexus 5.
Using from January 2014 to December 2014, its working fine, no hardware problem, unless you messed up with it.
I got water damaged and I replaced screen.. So I think buying with screen guard/scratch guard and back case/bumper case for extra protection will be good.
And about software updates, yes its really fast, factory images comes first and then ota.
But problem is with some apps does not give support for new OS that much fast, so you will have to wait. And updates always fix issues so need to look around or googling issues.
Yes it was good choice, don't know now, but there no such replacement so you can buy it with close eyes.
Nexus 5 vs nexus 6 as you mentioned.. Nexus 6 cost high, because of nexus 6 you can see some great deals coming out from amazon.in, flipkart.com, snapdeal.com these sites, so why not steal the deal..
Talking about RAM, it depends on how Google will look in to future, and how game developers develops it. 3 GB RAM can be for high end gaming or support for great os, how Google will develop its OS and how great games will created depends on it. As of now 3 GB does not matter but its future proof.
About storage I recommend you to get 32 GB if you play games (big, high end), music and movies etc etc... My nexus 5 19 GB space filled up with music and some games and some photo videos... Connecting OTG is big headache if need again and again, so buy 32GB.
Rooting is really great, for OTG you will need that.
Try OTG USB devices instead of OTG cable if you want.
nexus 5 media importer (total useless), stick mount (great = but root needed).
For total commander + plugin, I used it when I was not rooted my device, you have to copy videos to play it on your device. I used to do this, so I recommend you to root it.
ES File manager is really good but I never tried its OTG on non rooted nexus 5.
Why you need to download directly to OTG? I did not tried it but you can download it directly.
I did not get you on storage...??
You want to ask that there are restriction on installing apps??
I have 32 GB model, which gives me around 27 GB space, where I can install all 27 GB games or 27 GB space for videos. How you want to use your device is upto you.
Earlier I installed almost 8-9 GB games in total (HD and big games). It was running smoothly. No need to worry.
I never tried to download directly to OTG, because chrome browser never asks you, and I don't mind where it saves
And don't screw up your battery downloading over wifi for movies games.
As I said above, paying 1000 rs for extra protection will always help you.
For screen you don't need it but for the back, get back case/ bumper case, you will definitely need that.
Finally, it is really good to use lollipop, I tried for 6-7 days, and then installed 4.4.4 again.
Everything working fine, but some of the apps were not working on it because its new OS, so installed 4.4.4 again and rooted it. Will install lollipop next week, I think most of the apps support lollipop now so will try next week.
I also want to buy another nexus 5 for my brother, so waiting some great deal.

Tracphone ZTE Atrium - need help

So my buddy bought his son his first phone. It's through Tracphone. ZTE Atrium. it's running Android 6.1 the thought was to buy a cheep phone to see if he takes care of it. Bad mistake. This phone is worthless.
The phone has no internal memory. Son put 3 games on it and it's full. I suggested getting a memory card and moving the apps to the card. Well after formatting the card, the phone won't move the apps to the card. I read online that android can format card as internal storage. nope. Someone said to format card in older android phone. Mine is version 5. That didn't help either. People said that android 6.1 changed how cards are used. I don't know as I have a galaxy s5 rooted with Android 5.
What can we do other than buy a better phone?

Improving device performances and memory capability

Hi everyone, I'm new to modding phones and I was wondering what are my possiblities with my current device, a Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo (europe version), since I have problems with its memory storage that runs out pretty fast (as I reckon a lot of old samsung phones do this after a while), even after I reset it. I do possess a microsd card but I'd like to keep it for my music/pictures to move it one day to my next smartphone. What are my options as to which roms are stable and don't have a lot of issues with my device? Which ones could solve the problem that I have and also improve performances? Pardon my english if it's not perfect, but I'm not so used to write about tech. Thank you for your time.

J7 Sky Pro sd problems

Hey guys, bought a Samsung Galaxy J7 Sky Pro through Straight Talk (sm-s727vl) a while back. Now I'm running low on space as I'm playing some large games on it and still need space for music and such (16GB internal). So today I purchased a Samsung EVO 128GB microSDXC card, however, I can't seem to get my phone to do anything I want it to with the card. I can't find any settings to tell it I want apps to install to the SD card from now on if they can be, can't tell it I want photos and video to go there, can't tell it anything really. Finally managed to find out I can move like one app over to it manually after a lot of digging however it wouldn't let me move anything that made sense like my Steam phone app (which my brother can move his Steam app to SD on his Note 8).
I'm starting to get disparaged and wonder why I even bought this SD card if I can't put anything on it. There's not even an option to make the SD card be used as internal storage.
Using Android 6.0.1 which is what came with it. I really wish I could flash lollipop on to it or something. Any help is appreciated.
