Will AOSP ROM eliminate triband issue - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if flashing an AOSP rom for the S5 will eliminate the infamous triband issue that sprint customers are suffering from?

Not sure why a AOSP ROM would change the issue with Tri-band phones

Mostly wishful thinking. But since we know that the triband issue is a software one, I was hoping that an AOSP rom could somehow avoid the tower glitch.

Nexus S 2.3.5

I hate that the nexus s and nexus s 4g have such similar names! It leads to questions like the following.
Has the android 2.3.5 update been released for the standard Nexus S? I mean the non 4g one.

ive been wondering the same thing
Yea, I'd like to know the same aswell
No, it was only a fix for the sprint 4g reception issues, nfc and other bugs at this time.

There are some other improvements mentioned that may apply to GSM devices such as the speakerphone fix, enabling the secure element for NFC (Google wallet support), improved wifi connectivity (perhaps not isolated to CDMA devices) and TTY support. The 2.3.5 changes are being pulled into the CM build per a G+ post.
I don't expect an imminent OTA for GSM devices, but some of the AOSP changes (not baseband related) could be helpful for GSM devices.
Edit: Maybe it will OTA at some point in the near future: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16015703&postcount=7
Carbon beta rom (by Johnathon Grigg) has 2.3.5 for Nexus S

i noticed faster data connection,
i use to get H once in a wile, but now i notice it more, but still most of the time it's 3g
wifi works perfectly no problems
i never had gps issues, my phone always locked with in a second or 2
and with this ROM it does the same thing, it locked my location within 2 seconds
it also uses the new Market
try it, you can always revert back if you don't like it you can always restore your backup
but remember this is still beta

Hard to answer because "out" is rather vague. There are not different Androids for different phones. The main gingerbread code is at version 2.3.5 and can be built for NS or NS4G or many other phones. But it has not been sent by Google to any phones besides NS4G.

I have a NS4G and have not been sent the code from Sprint yet. Shouldn't I have had it already?

I assume you mean the OTA and not the code. If you mean the OTA, it will roll out over several *weeks*. It is flagged by IMEI/ESN - once you are set for an update any subsequent checkin will yield the OTA notificaiton. Until then you will not see it.

What ROM are you using is it a sprint ROM?
From what I've read anycut only enables creating shortcuts and wouldn't have anything to do with the optimizer/

Stable Stock JellyBean?

Hi all,
Just curious since I haven't seen anything and haven't found anything with a search, has anyone installed the latest Stock JellyBean leak that came out? Is it stable? I heard it got leaked, but haven't seen any threads regarding it.
I haven't heard of any JB leaks for Verizon.
agree ^ if there is anything out there that you know about , let us know!
He's probably referring to the Sprint leak which is the first CDMA leak of JB.
You would have to scan through the Touchwiz JB ROMs in the development forum to see if they have switched their base over to the Sprint leak or not.
If sprint has a leak ours shouldnt be far behind.

Some rumours said that JB update should be released around Christmas, don't know wether these rumours are true.

Is there a way to switch to LTE/CDMA to CDMA only without rebooting?

I remember on the S4 for a very brief stint with an AOSP ROM you could switch without having to reboot.... In fact, there was actually a quick setting toggle for it lol. Anyway to do this on a TouchWiz ROM? Thanks in advance!
Sent from a Galaxy 5 light years away
I thought that was based on the kernel and how the ROM interfaces with it. It shouldnt benecessary to reboot, but if the ROMs infrastructure makes it think that its necessary, then it will. Some tweaking of a TW ROM should make it possible, however the RODT ROM im currently running is asking to reboot also

Benefits of flashing stock 4.4.4 rom

Hello,
I am currently running SlimKat stable build 7 with elemental x. My nexus 5 has been unlocked, rooted and been running custom roms since 4.4.1. I have flashed the 4.4.4. Radio recently and it's been working good.
Will i benefit from flashing a stock Rom apart from the Radio?? Will flashing stock fix any bugs I might have even though I'v e been running SlimKat with no problems at all.
Thanks.

I must admit I simply don't understand what you're getting at here. You say Slimkat is running good, why change it? If you go to stock you'll lose features. Most ROMs are about as stable as stock by now anyways.
and radios and roms are completely unrelated. you can flash whatever custom rom, none of them include radios. radios are a separate flash.
Very true. SlimKat at has been really stable for me. Its more of planning for the next Android OS release. Maybe something I'm not seeing or experiencing but might cause problems later on.
Thanks.

I understand I'll lose the features, but maybe there are certain "codes" that the stock Rom has and custom does not.
You are right though, most custom roms are very stable already.

As far as I know, there's no good reason to return to stock. People still on stock generally have had problems in the past with other ROMs and prefer the guaranteed stability of stock. I know Franco one of our kernel developers uses stock with his kernels and his reason given was because it's the only ROM that can support everyone the way he intended and guarantees it works properly.

This is why I am on stock. Seems like everytime I go with a custom ROM I eventually end up getting annoying system UI FCs. Very rarely ever get it on stock. Would love to ask what ROMs are the most stable so I can experiment, but alas that's not allowed so I'll stick with stock, but rooted.

I'm not familiar with Rastakat, so how is their history with ROM development? I ask because I don't want to flash it and then before long they just stop official development (like what happened with CyanogenMod on my Moto G).
