How to erase word from predictive dictionary? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this isn't specifically an issue towards the One but I'm wondering if anyone knows a fix? I'm having a very annoying issue where if I were to type "dont" and press the space button, it auto-corrects it to "Dont" and not "don't". I'm using the stock keyboard.
I've tried to go into the keyboard settings and erasing the word from my personal dictionary but it's not in there to begin with. I've also tried clearing the cache and data from the keyboard but it's still there.
Anyone know a solution to this irritating issue (besides using a different keyboard)?'
Edit: I've also tried clearing the search engine storage to no avail. :\

Type "dont" and then look at your predictive predictions and when you see "Dont"... longpress on it and then erase it from the predictive dictionary.

I've tried that and there is no option to delete it after long-pressing the word. It just shows a list of words similar to it.

Oh I have it here :/ try using a different keyboard like SwiftKey?

Are you using the stock keyboard (Android Keyboard (AOSP)) or SwiftKey? I don't want to resort to installing a different keyboard.

I'm using SwiftKey and the option is here. The app is free, give it a try. You might like it more than the Android Keyboard, I certainly do

Tried it just now on the stock keyboard... It always suggests 'don't', even after I added 'dont' to the personal dictionary... Which English dictionary do you have? English US or any other? I have English UK.

Wonder what word did you ended up saving lol

I'm using the US English dictionary. Strange enough, if I were to type "Dont"(in the case that it's the beginning of a sentence), it'll auto-correct it to "Don't" but if it's "dont" anywhere within a sentence, it'll become "Dont".

Tried SwiftKey. Rage-uninstalled the app after it kept thinking I'm trying to swipe when I'm trying to type.

in your swype settings, do you have word prediction ticked?
you always need to tick that on installing! lol
so just go to keyboard setting, or tap the swype key when your writing then pres options, andmake sure its ticked
. that should cure it.

Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
I tried both. i even uninstalled, cleared all swype data & tried that, no dice. charging phone now to do a hard reset & see if that works
Just did a hard reset & still getting this stupid bug.
For me to add a new word that doesn't exists, I first have to manually type it and select it on the word suggestion bard (because auto correct will try to suggest a "correct" word). After I select the word, the option to "add <word> to dictionary" will appear for me on the word suggestion bar and pressing it will add it to the dictionary (Somewhat like stock gingerbread keyboard).
yeah I do that & it says that it added the word, yet when I reswipe it it's not added. I can do this 10 times in a row & it still won't stick
So I'm apparently an idiot & my Swype does work. I was under the impression that when it said 'Add "xnifex" to the dictionary' it was notifying me that that's what it was doing. I wasn't aware that you had to tap that notification for it to work. On the HD2 if you manually type in a word it's automatically added to the dictionary so I thought it was the same behavior. Yay for the swype team helping me out.

Did you actually clicked on "add <word> to dictionary"? Unlike on Froyo, where Swype saves a word after hitting space, now the users have to confirm the action by clicking on the right above the keyboard.
I was so used to the old swype, it took me 2 days to realize that...

Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
I'd just like to add that I had this problem, I was tapping to add to dictionary and there were literally no words in the dictionary, it was basically a tap keyboard. I uninstalled with Titanium Backup, then installed the Full version instead of the English/Other language one. This one has a dictionary and will save new words to it.
Thanks guys, I learned something new today;-)
Swyped from HTC Pyramid, using XDA Premium App.
I just want to say that I had the exact same issue as the OP. I thought that it was automatically adding the words to the dictionary, but some bug prevented them from appearing or something. I just wasn't clicking the "Add "word" to dictionary".
To be fair, it's not very clear on the UI that it's something that you can or should press. It doesn't have a question mark at the end, which would make you realise that it's ASKING you something, not telling you something.
That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Swype is the best. My only problem is the word bar above the keyboard. I find it distracting, and hard to get used to. I've looked everywhere trying to find a way to turn it off. Besides that, swype is 1,000x better than what comes with the sensation.

Skyrocket User Dictionary

Simple but....
So, I've accidentally added lots of silly words to my user dictionary from typing too fast or whatever.
I want to edit my user dictionary to remove them, like I used to with my old Android. I would go into the Settings > Keyboard and find the "edit user dictionary" part.
I cannot find it for the Skyrocket! Does anyone know where it is?
Thanks so much in advance!
If you are using stock input you can pull the .apk out of one of the stock roms, email it to yourself, and just reinstall. I did that with swype after a bunch of annoying wrong predictive words.

Aw. So there is no Android GUI for doing this?
There is surely a way to do this on the phone without loosing all of the words I have added that I actually want in there. Anyone??
There was until gingerbread. I could be wrong.
Dload ics keyboard and ics dictionary from the market. Use it. There may be also an add on in the market that adds the dictionary for the Samsung keyboard

Samsung Keyboard - does spell correction even work?

Am I doing something wrong here? I am trying to use the Samsung Keyboard with spell check turned on. It seems like it does not correct even the simplest of mistakes as other keyboard apps do.
For instance, if I type "thee dogg", it does not correct it. Those are not words in English. Why doesn't it correct to "the dog"? Instead of correcting these obvious misspellings, it just adds the misspelled words to My Word List. Why the heck would anyone want that? I'm lost on the logic here.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes, it is in English. I can just use Thumb Keyboard which has decent correction but I would prefer to try the Samsung one due to the extra features. Just odd that it would choose to add misspelled words to your word list rather than fix them. Head-scratcher. I'm looking for a setting that changes this behavior but cannot find one.
Samsung seems to do a number of things software wise that you sort of wonder how it ever made it out of committee. They add so many cool features but then totally whiff on some of the obvious stuff.

I've never been a fan of swype, probably because I can blaze with thumb typing if I have a decent spellcheck. Don't even have to look at the keyboard.
I think it is a jellybean problem, it worket fine for me on ics, it doesn't work on my s3 also after jellybean update, I tried it now but it doesn't add wrong words to the dictionary on s3 , but on note it does!

I've had a lot of issue with the default keyboard. I have it set to predictive and I have Continuous typing active so it works like Swype but it's choice of words is sometime ludicrous. Even when I swipe slowly to each character it will often (25% of the time) give me a word that starts with a letter at the opposite end of the keyboard from where my swipe started.
I have started using the handwritten input for most things as it seems to work so much better than the actual keyboard.
As long as it has taken Samsung to roll out this JB OTA it is surprising the keyboard is so buggy. I reserve the right to totally be doing something wrong but I can't tell what it is.

Google Keyboard (gboard) issue with EMUI 4.0.x

Hello everybody,
since the upgrade to Android 6 I had problem with the Google keyboard, basically I can't choose any language but English (US) and Tibetan!
I tried to download old versions of Google keyboard through APKmirror but the only result is that I don't get anymore Tibetan as option.
Logcat doesn't give any useful information.
Upgrading another H60-L12 of a friend we encountered the very same issue.

I need at least Italian, but I was used to have few other languages that I use less often
and I'm studying. It's very strange that I can't see the other dictionaries...
Of course now I'm using SwiftKey but I prefer gboard, I find it much more faster and comfortable.
I got the same problem. It's crashing when I try to access the settings.
I use German and English. But when I'm typing only English dictionary is available although I see "DE EN" in the space bar.
But I cannot switch between these languages.
I've also installed APK manually but this didn't help either.
Any ideas how to resolve this issue?
From Gboard
Hold the comma key.
Select languages.
Turn off Use System Language.
Select the language you need
Hold space bar to select languages
Quite surprising you're getting only two language options. Not so for me. I'm using H60 L04

I've done as described. I can switch now language but the dictionary is still English only.
When I hold comma key and select Gboard settings and try to get into menu item "settings" then it crashes again. The same when I try to access "advanced settings".
So Gboard is still failing.

Updated via OTA
Android 6
Build H60-L04C432B860
So why should the standard ROM not have built in the languages?
That u cant say. Couldn't find a way to add languages too. You should stick to other keyboards then. Try Xperia keyboard. It's nice

The latest version that I see on the play store has been published on 10 Jan and it has the problem described at the beginning.
I found a newer version (not sure about the origin, it has a different icon) on apkmirror but it has problems with the resolution and in any case the dictionary problem is still there.
Did you find a working version?

My phone does the same thing. Maybe Google intended it....... Works great in text and email.
Yea it doesn't work in chrome. Most annoying. Was the same in my Nexus 6 on N. Can't remember on M. I may switch out keyboards. But then emoji becomes an issue.
For a good 3 months way back when, I complained daily to Google that I did not want word prediction in a browser, any browser. I wasn't alone; there was a very strong opposition from a large population that auto-corrections made it impossible to enter unique web addresses. For example, trying to enter starbits.com changed to Starbucks.com. In addition, the period created a blank space that you'd have to backspace to remove. However, our suggestion was that word prediction not be enabled in the address bar, but should always be allowed in the text search field. Guess that's harder to execute than previously thought. I don't know why that's so difficult. One would think they just have to set the parameter 'text_word_prediction_enable' flag for the right fields. I know you don't want to use Swype; I use Minuum and it predicts words better than anything. I don't ever look at the keyboard to type. I can be 3 letters off and I can still achieve 95% accuracy. Or you can wait for Xposed to work again if you're rooted, and use the Auto Correct module.
