[Q] Is using Xposed with pie temp root possible? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Each time I try to do it, I get an error and if I don't get the error Android OS crashes.
Can anyone confirm working on 4.4.2 Verizon locked bootloader with pie root?

I got the framework downloaded. Couldn't get the modules to download though. Google was also having trouble syncing. I dunno if it was from the framework, but when I uninstalled it, things returned to normal.

Id post a link if I could, but over at cricketusers .com there is a temp root thread under moto g forum. Near the end of the op it has directions to get xposed framework installed. Basically... Temp root, check with root checker, try installing framework once, normal reboot, reroot, recheck root, try again reinstalling framework and it magically works. Just be sure to soft boot after it finally installs.
(Edit) -just saw that you're using Verizon...it may not work, as I'm using cricket which has an att boot loader preventing the unlock...hell, give it a try though if you don't think you'll get a brick.

AdAway - what am I missing?

Evening. I had previous installed WeakSauce and SuperSU on my Verizon HTC One M8.
today, I applied S-off, and flashed ClockwordMod Recovery Unofficial.
I installed Root from inside CWM.
However, I still cannot apply host files in CWM. This suggests that I don't necessarily have full root, so perhaps I missed a vital step somewhere.
Little help? That's all i want is proper ad blocking. otherwise, this phone runs just fine with Nova Launcher
thanks,
I always throw my Awaway apk into system/app. Not sure if that actually does anything, but it seems to apply more often than not. I've always had issues with adaway sometimes not applying, so you are not alone.

Unfortunately, while booted into Android, the stock kernal prevents system partition write access. You'll need to disable it.
EDIT: I stand corrected.

This. The modified kernel it's being worked on still but I believe it can be found in development

Clarification
MultiDev, if I am understanding, you mean just disable AdAway because it wont work yet until a custom kernel or kernel mod is installed?

download and flash this in recovery: http://download.chainfire.eu/345/SuperSU/
then open it so it can update (use recovery method when asked to update)
then run adaway
Got it

Thanks, it successfully applied after that. Apparently I missed step one in some previous instructions where it said to flash the SuperSU binary.
Last question. I assume at this point, I can uninstall WeakSauce since we have permanent proper root?
I gotta say, this was pretty easy in Linux Mint 16....

S-Off'd and rooted through flashable zip. Installed adaway as a system app, and it's running fine here. Nothing else changed or added.

All this because I missed the first line of the instructions...

Yeah, I was wrong about that. The system partition is writable after S-off.

I also have s-off, uninstalled weak sauce, then flashed through CWM supersu.zip for full root, reboot. Downloaded latest AdAway apk found here on xda forum. I then ran apk file from my download folder, hit install. Open AdAway, click on Download fiels and apply add blocking. Now it just gets stuck on Applying... with the circle going around and around for over 15 minutes straight now! Yes i gave root access when asked. Is this normal?
Nevermind. Closed app, then reopened and it did the download thing like normal. Now says successful and applied hosts sources: 4/4.
So i'm good to go now? Does this need reboot like prompted?

You don't NEED to, but it is recommended.

This is the one app causing me problems. Adfree works problem free, but AdAway likes to keep getting stuck on "Applying...". I've got it to succeed once or twice by force closing and re-trying, but it's not reliable. I'm S-off, CWM recovery, SuperSU, and the modded kernel with RW permissions. What gives? :?
EDIT: Even tried installing Adaway as system app, problem still persists...???
EDIT2: Finally got it working. Noticed in the OP in the xda thread that there is a modded version to fix problem. All good

I had to install the unsecure boot image in order for AdAway to work properly. Otherwise it just hangs on applying host files.
From what I understand, just because you're s-off still doesn't mean you have full write access. The stock kernel has the write protection modules built in.
Flashing the unsecure boot image fixed all issues I was having and I'm pretty sure if you're still having problems, flashing that will help
-HTC One m8-
I'm not disputing whether or not s-off provides full write access. But, I was able to install AdAway with full functionality without installing the unsecure stock kernel. It takes a while to download all the data and install it though (maybe 5 minutes or so?). Then, I rebooted and it's working very well. No more ads!

[Q] Xposed keeps crashing. Where am I going wrong?

[Solved]
I'm trying to get xposed to work because I want to change the [email protected]@[email protected]!% volume increments! My music is exactly inbetween two increments. I tried to edit the framework.jar in /system/framework and edit ...\framework\android\media\AudioService.smali but no dice.
Eventually I found that there is an xposed module I can use. Sadly, after installing both the latest and experimental versions of the apk, both still crash when I try to open it. What am I doing wrong?! I'm at my end here...nothing I do seems to be working.

[Q] Just bought this xt1080m from eBay have a question!!

It is ota updated on the latest su6-7.2 4.4.4 can I root it?
OK after reading 58 pages of crashxxl, I still cannot get a straight answer. So let me ask again, can I rsd to su6-7 non ota from ota su6-7.2???? I am sure not everyone here is robots right????

For Crashxxl you need to fxz / xml (rsd) to 6/7.
It is tough, follow everything precisely.
Then you can ota to 7.2 as I understand it, & keep root.
You can get temporary root to set up various root apps including Xposed with KingRoot but it has its own hassles.
Go to the our phone general forum & you will see it.
So if I root with crash will I be able to WiFi tether using Mueller tether? Or is there another way without root I'm unlimited Verizon

Have your moduals downloaded/installed & checked.
Get root.
Update framework using classical.
Sometimes you get root and quickly Update yet it errors out. Then all you can do is reboot, uninstall kingroot, reboot twice.
Start over

(Q) Exposed Installer.

I read that Exposed Installer has been updated. Does anyone know if it would work with the 5.1.1 Update that Tmo and Metro Stylo got?
Only way to find out is to try. I'll be backing up and trying in a bit.
well it said it installed in twrp, but when i rebooted, it stayed on the lg screen for longer than usual...then it finally went to the metro screen but it just stayed there for a long time so i panicked and pulled the battery.
i was able to restore my backup and i thought i read somewhere that i may need busybox installed...even though i thought busybox got installed when i did the one click root, i went ahead and installed it from the playstore to try again.
again it said it installed in twrp, this time i let it stay on the metro screen even longer but it seemed like it was stuck so i restored a backup...do you think i just need to wait longer? also do i really need busybox installed?
im tempted to restore my 5.02 backup and see what happens if i try to install the 5.0 version...

BusyBox is needed so that some things that require root work correctly like Viper4Android, but it's not needed for everything
I had the same problem with it staying on the carrier screen for 30 minutes before I gave up. Seems it just won't work as it currently stands.

found these instructions in Italian on how to install without recovery pasting them in English (rough google translation):
ith this tutorial we see how to install Xposed Framework on a phone with Android
Lollipop without recovery!
Cost:
Root
Busybox installed on the device (and also installed files busybox, just open the app)
Terminal Emulator installed on the device
Package XposedLollipop taken from this video.
1- Download the package by pressing the link
2- Unzip
3- Put the contents of the root (in the main memory of the phone,
no subfolders) of the device.
4- Install Xposed (the apk is among the file you just put into the device) BUT do not open it
5- Open the terminal emulator and type "su" after which you type: sh / sdcard / installer
and press enter.
6- 1 and press enter.
7- Wait for the procedure, after restart and you Xposed properly installed
PS: procedure performed perfectly on MEIZU MX4 which as you know does not have recovery mod, works on all phones MA may be different from the path where installed so placed in the root of the file and make sure that it's called "sdcard", should have a other name you have to use that! eg sh / card / installer
link to the video with his links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDInZYNrEr8 if this does work then us Boost User's can enjoy it too , but i have no idea if it does work
and if it doesnt work? i wouldnt try anything fancy without having twrp to restore a backup (or at least a kdz)...are you gonna try that method?

930A ATT S7 Snapdragon Xposed framework

Hey guys, so I just found out about this site and am a super noob but managed to Root my ATT S7 last night. I have been trying to install the Xposed framework but it looks like I cant get a custom recovery program onto my S7. Does anyone know how to get TWRP or CWM or any custom recovery onto the 930A? Or for that matter, Xposed install without a custom recovery?

Sure, I'll start from the beginning in case any other new people are wondering.
Basically, back up your files and restore your phone to factory so the root goes smoother.
Then proceed to this thread for the root. Oh yeah, install adb if you don't have it. They dont mention it and assume you know what it is, which noobs like me don't.
After a clean root, install Flashfire (you may need to disable samsung updates and reset the phones clock back to 2012 or something if Flashfire doesn't want to start). I used 0.31, maybe the newest will work? Easy to find in google.
On page 8 of the Root thread, there is a dropbox link to the Xposed apk and zip (Here). Move them to your phone and install the apk, then use Flashfire to boot the zip.
I think that's pretty much it, Xposed should be running after the Flashfire reboot (which can take a long time as it will Optimize apps).
psouza4 has an awesome thread on what to do after Root and Xposed to make the phone run smoother.
If you do something wrong and absolutely can't fix it, see here for re-flashing back to stock.
Hope this helps someone, took me about 2 days to search all of this out. The AT&T S7 is such a pain in the ass with it's locked bootloader, but this place is > AT&T!
