[Q] (Temp)Root without Unlock or undo Unlock? - HTC One Mini

Hey everyone,
my girlfriend is getting her new phone today after giving her old one to t-mobile because of battery problems.
My question is, if there is a way to root or temproot her phone without unlocking the bootloader. I just want to recover the backups i made with titanium backup.
Or do you think it's enough to recover from HTC Backup? I saved all of her data through htc backup but i am not sure if her savegames and so on will be restored, too.
Thanks in advance,
Patrick

Okay, another idea. IF I unlock and root, is there any way to get back to stock recovery with locked bootloader and no tampered message? All with the original t-mobile stock firmware running?
Maybe by pushing revone via adb and using ./revone -t -l? Or do I have to be s-off to these revone commands?

I think you have to be s-off to remove any flags. Even if you restore to 100% stock using ruu, I think you'll still be either unlocked or relocked

Well, that's what I thought ...
So I have to find a way to root without unlocking.
Or do you think I can restore the data from the backup made with titanium any other way? Important for my girlfriend are mainly some savegames.
Most of the messages, contacts, etc. were restored through the HTC Backup, also we made a backup of Whatsapp and restored it already.

I don't know much about titanium backup. Sorry. I can't help you there.

[Q] Anyway to use Titanium Backup without root

Hi All
I (stupidly) got overwhelmed the shininess of the new OTA update for my excellent HTC Sensation and went back to S-On to get it. Forgetting that in order to use Titanium Backup (excellent btw) I needed root access to my phone.
Does anyone know a way to restore from titanium without root access?
I freely admit to making a n00b mistake so if it's not possible then it's my own fault.
No, titanium needs root to backup or restore apps.
Now, you can't. If temp-root is available for that update you could just temp-root it to restore your apps, and you wouldn't have to leave the new software.

You can use titanium backup and nandriod to backup your data. You will get updates, but once you updated software from HTC (os) your device will be uprooted and you need to root again .
Post your questions in HTC one X forum to get more response.

Also, briefmobile.com/how-to-install-cwm-recovery-on-htc-one-x-att shows you how to place CWM on your phone, and you can do quite a bit from there, including installing custom ROMs without messing up your binary counter, full backups of EVERYTHING, and use Titanium Backup can be used to back up data as well, restorable upon re-installation of Titanium Backup.

I'm trying to recover deleted texts on my HTC and the program I was using said I needed to root the phone but then I hear that will wipe out data making it hard to recover. Help!!! Will that Titanium avoid that? Is it free? This has already cost me almost 200 trying to get messages off phone.

[Q] How can I protect root on 4.4 with locked bootloader?

I bought a Droid Maxx on eBay. It came rooted, running 4.4, with a locked bootloader. I got the phone a day or so too late to get in on the chance to buy a bootloader unlock code.
So, how can I protect root? I'm worried about upgrades or anything else Verizon might push down that'd overwrite root. I don't know how the phone was rooted (I assume it was rooted on 4.2.2 and then updated to 4.4 but don't know for sure). I have the paid version of Titanium Backup so if there's something I need to freeze or uninstall I'll do that. If there's a setting I can change to make sure that my phone doesn't accept an update that loses root I'll do that. I know that there's no method to re-root a Droid Maxx on 4.4 with a locked bootloader so I want to take whatever precautions I can to prevent losing root. I've read just about everything on the Motorola Droid Ultra forum and I have not found an answer to this question.

Use Titanium to freeze the app MotorolaOTA and you'll be good to go
Sent From Droid Ultra
Yes, freezing the MotorolaOTA is the way to go. You may never get updates in future (even bug fix updates). But hey, you got root in 4.4, which is good, especially when unlocking BL is impossible.
If you really want to get any update in later stage via OTA, then unfreeze the same app and unroot your phone. Then accept the OTA, but you will loose root and may never gain again.
I found and froze MotorolaOTA using Titanium Backup, as suggested. Thank you. Now, can I install TWRP? I've read a fair amount about TWRP on this forum but I'm not confident that I'm separating what can be done with TWRP if you have an UNlocked bootloader and what (if anything) can be done with TWRP if you have a locked bootloader (as I do). All I really want to be able to do is to reboot to Recovery in order to either make a backup of my ROM or to wipe cache and Dalvik cache, as that sometimes seems to smooth out operations if an app installation doesn't go well. I would use CWM for that if necessary but on other devices TWRP is my preference. So -- if I DO have root but I do NOT have an unlocked bootloader, can I install TWRP to reliably perform those functions?

If your bootloader is locked you'll need to use safestrap recovery. Basically has same functionality as TWRP as far as back ups and wiping. Just do some reading up on it. Not sure how current the attached thread is and I haven't used safestrap for this device.

Help needed

Hi,
I have a problem that I'm hoping you guys can help me with:
I bought my Nexus 5 from the US Play Store but I live in Europe, which is why my LTE isn't working.
Now I have a friend who has the opposite situation, living in the States but having a European N5.
Now our idea was to simply switch phones, but we don't know how to do with while keeping all the data.
Is there any way to backup EVERYTHING into a file which each of us could flash so it would be like the both of us had the same phone as before, only with working LTE?
Thanks in advance.
Please use descriptive thread titles in future
Yes, if you can root both phones without unlocking the bootloader (unlocking wipes phones), flash a custom recovery then do a nandroid backup (EXCLUDING EFS) then copy /sdcard to your pc.
OR use carbon (Although I cannot guarantee its everything).
Although it is much easier and safer to start fresh.
All guides etc are in the link in my signature, except - if you want root without unlocking bootloader, you'll have to try your luck with the towelroot app.
Anyway read up and you may figure it out but if you're a stranger to rooting, I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah sorry for the title, couldn't think of any description.
In fact both our phones are rooted and have a custom recovery, I wasn't sure about the nandroid backup process though.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Nandroid from recovery will backup everything except sdcard. So do a nandroid backup to sdcard and copy To PC
Just ensure you DO NOT backup or restore efs.

How to do nandroid like backup on a unrooted stock phone?

My phone went through the boot loop and I had to factory reset and lose everything this morning. OK, my bad for not backing up, though I did back up some things like photos.
I want to ensure my other phone doesn't have this issue -- and the only 'full backup' I'm aware of (nandroid) requires the unlocked bootloader which this phone does not have. So what is the best way for me to back up this phone PRIOR to unlocking bootloader and forcing a factory refresh?
I know I can back up photos and other stuff relatively easy, but these things I had to restore on my phone manually:
Texts (Use SMS Backup and Restore, I know, but hadn't run it recently)
Custom Ringtones (Not sure how to do this other than manually)
Application Data (since some apps do store the data locally)
Is there anything proactive I can do or any magical non-root stock supported app to back up this phone 'just in case'?
Thanks.

Well you can unlock it yourself. To do nandroid backup you need custom recovery. To get custom recovery you need unlocked bootloader.
Helium, by ClockWorkMod, will do what you want, I think, and doesn't require root (although it will use it if available). It's in the Google Play Store. I'm not sure what the down side of rooting is, though.

Hi.
Had the same problem as you until i unlocked, i did a full backup using this method.
http://omegavesko.github.io/SimpleADBBackup/
With this method you don't have to unlock or root for just making a backup, i am restoring my backup from before unlocking and rooting as i write this so i hope it did its job.
The backupfile was 8 gb so it must have produced something
I will give you a report as soon as it have restored everything.
Best regards
Mackis

Ok, so the backup was rolling during the night, but i can warn others that my method described above did not work. Maybe i did something wrong but no pictures, no music and no apps did get restored after the backup.
The positive is that im now unlocked, rooted and installed twrp now checking for wich kernel and image to use, i have to read up a bit before next step.
Best regards
Mackis
