Trouble opening Voicemail WAV files - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So well on the road this weekend, I didn't bother bringing my work phone or laptop and just used my Note Pro to access Outlook Webmail a few times to check emails on the road for emergencies... I ran into an issue, our phone system sends voicemails as WAV file attachments (G.711/u-Law) and I was unable to open them with the build in players in the Note. No problem, I downloaded and installed Remote Wave Free from the Play Store like we do on all Android devices that can't play them with the embedded player, but this didn't work either, it gave me a warning that it was unable to open the files due to security or permission settings. Tried several players and got the same result.
I did not try setting up the email app, just accessing Exchange through the Webmail using Chrome, could this be the issue as to why I could not open these files or is there something else going here with WAV files in general?

What does VLC say when you try to play through it?

Somehow I lost this thread and didn't get any notifications on it... whatever, Tapatalk fail I guess...
I will pull the tablet out tonight and install the app and let you know, I didn't try VLC. Thanks.

VLC plays it through, but crashes immediately every time after it starts playing the audio, not giving me the ability to pause, rewind. etc...
Sound Player says "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file"
Remote Wave Free says "/storage/emulated/0/Download/701255xxxx_20140800_090208.wav: open failed: EACCES (Permission denied)". This is the app most people use on their android cell phones in our company to playback voicemails
Maybe I am just going to have to spring for WavPlayer... it is only 99ยข
EDIT: Yeah, nevermind, WavPlayer worked perfectly

Pretty non-obtrusive ads for us in countries without a paid market, good call by developers.
Been using the leaked alpha up until now, but replaced it with this version
Could somebody explain to me why this app needs permission to read phone state and identity (heading: phone calls).
Seems odd...but curious!
The beta was cool as fook, but now the audio lags then catches up. Joke app now...
Reverted to mplayer as i don't have avi's anyway, and has brightness memory, cool

So it knows when you are getting a call so it can pause the video.
Does anyone know if the paid version has the R logo, or is that removed, along with ads, when you pay the $10?
I used the alpha without the R logo until now, but this looks better (better scaling mainly), though the R is a deal-breaker for me.
App has been updated to fix lag issues.
The paid version does not have the red R logo
I don't understand why they can't just have a Paid Version on the market....
*LIGHT BULB*
They want to take full profit from the sale instead of letting Google handle the transaction..
I for one want to support them since I've been using their Beta version
HOWEVER!!!!!... Since it is only registered to the Phone IMEI... *since they are trying to avoid Google Tariffs..... Switching Phones will require you to purchase it again....
I FOR ONE WILL NOT BUY IT OUT OF PRINCIPLE.... What I pay for should be a global one time payment... knowing myself. I will get the *Nexus Two* and follow Google assuming they don't switch Manufacturers.. *COUGH* MOTOROLA SUCKS

this is crap, or I am stupid
1. i have a few *.m4v videos that show up in the lists of stock player and mVideoPlayer, but don't show up in RockPlayer (although RockPlayer can play them, when i un-check "show media files only" (so that EVEN RockPlayer can see them... and click them in RockPlayer...)
2. when i am in a file explorer, and click on *.m4v the pop up window only offers choice of stock player and mVideoPlayer
3. The option "use as system player" doesn't seem to have an effect.
4. Rockplayer does not offer a consolidated list of videos on its home GUI?????????? I have to click through my file system to find all my videos individually????
5. paypal payment method.... no way to refund???????
... why again is this better than mVideoPlayer???

I have uninstalled the software and have no intention to use it ever again.
Just as I expected my refund request to PayPal was declined by the seller.
In his response to my refund request he didn't even comment on any of my complaints, just provided a simple "i am sorry to hear it" and an explanation of what "use RockPlayer as system player" means (= using the phone's hardware acceleration (not sure whether it's true or not).
Exactly what posters above are worried about: if you are not satisfied, you have no way to refund and for every new phone you would have to acquire a new license because the license is hooked to the phone's ID.
I strongly advise against using the PayPal scheme
i have escalated to PayPal, because I have already uninstalled and since I am not using the software would like to have a full refund.

Paypal will refund you mate im sure,
I think its very underhanded of this company (if its a company and just not a small time dev) to not refund you...
I would not enter into any transactions outside of Google Market as your totally protected.
I would also tell everyone to avoid this app like the plague, and install Mvideo player, its about a thousand times better....

does it recognize *.avi file as media file? or do you have to disable "show only media files" to see it?
does the audio lag come back when you scroll forward or backward?
mmh... does it show all video media files at start up page, or do we still have to manually sift through our file structure to find the videos individually?

Yes audio lag both forward and back, but comes back soon after
what ROM are you running? Maybe update? Im on stock non root

set the browser ua to desktop by typing about:useragent in the adress bar. then log into the gmail desktop site. once logged into google go to the web market at market.android.com/movies
the movies will play in the browsers video player at 480p which is the phones native res anyhow, I'm sure this is the same as google video will play it. they are hosted by youtube and I don't see the hq modes on my pc so id guess that's the quality limit.
this way it will play throuh mhl with no problems.
im rooted. the download wouldnt install from the market. it would start and then just stop for no reason. so i installed from apk. it works now, and with the market too. divx movies forward over to play in the samsung player.

Hey Jack thanks for the apk. It installed just fine but when I tried to play a movie I rented from the market (Wedding Crashers Unrated) I got the following error:

Set the browser user agent to desktop, browse to the Android Market website, and launch the movie from there. Think that may work.

ICS Amazon Mp3 problem

I'm running gedeROM 5/13 and every time i try to sign in on the amazon mp3 app in order to get my music from the cloud, I get "failed due to network error. Retry when you are connected to the internet" But I am definitely connected to the internet, anybody else have this problem?

Yes, I just tried (using the same ROM) and I am having the same issue too...
How many devices do you have authorized in amazon account? I get log in errors whenever I have to many devices (every time you flash a rom a new device is added) Try deleting some of them and see if you can log in.

I get the same message. gedeRom v1.35, three devices registered on my Amazon account. Not too big of a deal as I don't use Amazon music all that often, but I sort of like everything to work properly.
I just figured out that you don't need the MP3 app. If you go to Amazon's website through your browser, you can access your cloud drive from there. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner!

The new ROM that comes with the #11 kernel has it working again, FYI.
I installed the latest gedeRom 5/27 and still get the same error. It gives me the error when I try to go to the cloud player or purchase music from within the app and it asks me to login. I can still play music that is on my device from within the app. Also I know it's not the internet connection because I can stream previews of songs from the store within the app, just can't buy them.
Also I'm not having luck with flash and the cloud player from within the following browsers.
"Browser" - Will play but can't download to device
Dolphin HD- Page displays, but won't play or download
Chrome Beta- Page displays, but won't play or download
Opera Mobile- Won't even display the cloud player page
Firefox- Page displays, but won't play or download
I am still loving this rom and ics, but it would be that much better if I could get the Amazon MP3 app working.

I'm on 5/27 gedeROM right now, and the cloud player is finally working for me, I have no idea why it wouldn't work for you. Flash only works on the stock browser, I believe adobe said last year that they are no longer supporting mobile flash (so browsers like chrome beta won't have flash).

Actually, I think most browsers on ICS will support flash (Dolphin, Firefox, and Opera anyway). Newer ones, like Chrome beta will not.
Must be something in my twrp backup, just did a clean install of gedeRom 5-27 and first thing installed Amazon MP3 from market and it works. Then I ran restore in TWRP and started getting the error again. My backup didn't even include Amazon MP3 but obviously something in the backup is messing it up.
Oh well I will just abandon the recovery and install apps 1 by 1 from Titanium and the market. I'm just glad it's working.
what's causing you to have to restore your backups?
Got it working, I was an idiot and had messed with "autostarts".

[Q] Nexus 5 Won't Play WAV Voicemail attachments

Our phone system at my job sends voicemails as WAV attachments through our Exchange server when someone leaves a message on your extension. Even up to when I was on my Galaxy S3 I've had to install a third party audio player that supports WAV files to play these.
I recently discovered that Kit Kat (4.4) now plays these WAV attachments natively. I and two of my fellow IT teammates all purchased the N5 on release day but while both of their N5s will play them as expected, I get a popup that says "Sorry, cannot open this file". I tried a factory reset and only installed apps that weren't audio related, but still get the same message. Anyone else able to open WAVs or getting this error? How would I troubleshoot this? I also tried resetting all app defaults in the app manager to no avail.
Thanks in advance for any help with this. Minor annoyances are usually the ones that eat at me the most.
All of a sudden my phone has started doing this. I use to work fine with just Play Music installed and would just play the wav file from the email screen but it doesn't do it anymore.

This just started happening to me as well. Just minutes ago I went to play a voicemail I received through my Exchange email and had the same result. I even tried saving the .wav file but nothing will open it. I could probably install an audio player that will handle wav files, but I'm pretty sure this previously used to work fine.
Has anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas?

Its the same sort of thing for me as well, even if I download it it won't play. I think and this is only me guessing but its probably something to do with an update to Play Music since that is the only thing that has changed on my phone since it stopped working.

It looks like others have noticed similar things, such as here on a Motorola phone: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/fe2e143972
In that thread, two people reported that rolling back Play Music (and Quickoffice?) fixed the problem, while one person said that didn't fix it. I just tried it myself and still have the same problem after going back to the factory versions of Play Music and Quickoffice.
I also found that Google officially doesn't even list wav files as supported by Play Music: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1100462
It looks like people are just installing other media players that will handle wav files... but I liked that I could play them directly in the email without even having to open another app...

I don't even have Quickoffice installed. I have tried a few different music players but for some reason they don't like to play it from within the email app.
I have this problem too with the copy of my voicemail that is delivered via MMS to Hangouts (see my thread here). Play Music and VLC just won't play them. Installed MX Player which opens and plays them without issue.

I am a new N5 owner, and have the same issue. This was my first major disappointment with the phone, coming from a N4. My N4 handled .wav voice mails native in the mail app, which I was excited about, coming from a HTC One S where I had to download each attachment and play it in an alternate app. I feel like I have moved backwards.
I have noticed for a very long time on my N5. In fact, not sure it was working from the very beginning. When trying to pick the WAV as attachment in Gmail, I'm presented with the native picker only a couple XBMC remote control apps. The odd thing is is that if I select that WAV from a file explorer app, such ES File Explorer, it presents many more apps with which to play the file, including Google Play Music itself, which then is played flawlessly in Google Play. I wonder why the native app picker doesn't present you with all the music player apps that are installed.
Mine definitely used to work... I was very surprised today when I found it didn't work anymore. I've had my Nexus 5 for over 3 months and I'm positive I've listened to voicemail email attachments during that time. Not sure what's up with this, but I'd really like this feature back...
I tried MX Player and many other players... some will open the file after saving it, but I couldn't make any work from email. Tapping on the attachment just says "Couldn't play the track you requested."
Sad to see this go too. I was playing .wav files through the native gmail app as well until just a few days ago. Now I get no app installed to open this file.
Ended up buying Wav Player by Dennis Lockshine. This app will play within the gmail app.
Same here on my nexus 5. Already had this issue back in december ended up fixing it when I rooted and reinstalled everything. Now the problem is back again.

I tried this the other day, with no luck. I even cleared the Play Music cache, rebooted, wiped cache and dalvik cache in TWRP, still nothing. After seeing your post I decided to just try a .wav voicemail again and now it actually works... I haven't changed anything since the other day. Really strange. I've disabled automatic updates to Play Music and will just leave it be for now, since this is working again...
For those for whom removing updates does not work, could it be that you're running a custom ROM or have a Gapps package with an update to the app that can't be reverted back to the version with which WAVs can be played from Gmail?

[Bug Report] MX Pro 1.7.32 crashes after playing every vid

Hi--I have used this a long time, suddenly it has become non-functional, I suspect due to the 1.7.32 update, but not sure.
--Android 4.3 (I've avoided 4.4 to retain full functionality of the SD card...)
--MX Pro 1.7.32
--Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014
--Could not follow directions for alogcat because the nature of the problem makes MX unuseable once it crashes--there is no way to hit the "settings" button in MX Player Pro at that point.
PROBLEM
So, I bring up my file list as per normal. I click on a vid. The vid does not play. In fact, there is merely a blank screen. Eventually I'm returned to the home screen of the tablet and advised that MX Player has crashed. Sometimes, I don't even get the blank screen. It just automatically disappears and returns me to the tablet's home screen. Once that happens, the program never works again (until reinstalled or data cleared) and won't even let me into the program. Clicking its icon simply brings up a blank screen, then I get "Unfortunately, MX Player Pro has stopped..."
Troubleshooting
I have tried clearing cache, data and also reinstalling. The last two DO allow me to once again bring up the File List from "folders view." It looks normal once again. However, once I try to play vids, the same, exact result occurs, i.e., nothing actually plays and the program crashes with the screen going blank.
CLUES
a) I also have this on my phone, where it continues to work fine, but on my phone, I only have a handful of FLVs. The tablet has lots of other formats, primarily mp4. On my Note 4 phone, however, I'm running 4.4 KitKat.
b) If I access the video in a roundabout fashion, by clicking on it from a File Manager, the File Manager then offers to play it with the native vid player OR Mx Player. Then, it works fine. The exact same video. Of course, then I can't access any other parts of the MX P program, and I am no longer able to use the file list Mx Player P builds.
c) I tried playing with various settings, like hardware decoder, and what not, but it did not seem to help much.
My thought is that the version supporting Lollipop has done something that Samsung does not like in conjunction with 4.3
Any thoughts welcomed. TIA

TIA

Already there is a sticky thread in which I have already explained the procedure to collect the log immediately after crash.
Install MX Log collector app
Open It immediately after the MX Player Crash
Save the logs & Upload here
Does it crashes in all decoders?
If you are using H/W+ disable it & Check again.
long press the video & select Play using | S/W decoder
Check whether it still crashes or not.

It does not matter whether or not I use HW or SW decoding.
I upgraded the tablet to KitKat. That did not matter either.
I tried to upload the log files from MX Log here. Each time (3x now!) it gave me "invalid file" and refused to accept the upload. Oh, well.

You can upload to any file sharing network like dropbox & post the link here.
If you are not allowed to post the links, use masking like h**p://www.google.com

It would not let me post links even with asterisks. I took out the http in its entirety. That didn't work either. I took out the dropbox reference as well. That did not work either. Have no clue at this point.
*Indeed, it wouldn't even let me quote your post with the partial link you referenced.

FYI, just in case it helps, not as a "zing," BS Player works fine and normally. MX continues to work (on tablet and despite recent updates) only when a file is clicked from My Files file manager. It just won't deal with its own list of videos.

@monsieurms There was an issue on Note 10.1 2014 European ROM and it might be fixed on 1.7.34
Please try latest version also try clear app data, MX Player's internal database looks like corrupted. This issue is also fixed but once corrupted database will never be recovered.

I tried it again--I'd already done that after upgrading to 1.7.3.4---but it did not help. I am not in Europe---North America.

@monsieurms Would you send log again using 1.7.34? Thanks!
Given your comment on list db corruption and the fact that some vids in small directories do work, I tried copying all the vids to a new directory. That didn't work.
I cleared data again and also downloade the arm7 Neon custom codec specified in the Decoder settings. That did not help either. (It did find and install the codec.)
With the clues you gave me, I experimented a little. In particular, I noticed that some vids in small folders (small in terms of # of videos), played fine. I thought at first, as mentioned earlier in the thread, it was a difference in format. But as we've seen, all the videos play fine if accessed from File Manager--so that's not it. With the addition of your clue on database corruption, I thought perhaps the issue was folder size. I divided the one large folder into two, 50-50. That fixed it.
I would say you have still an issue here---the program chokes with a large of vids in the database. It doesn't seem to bother other programs, including the native video player and BS, and it didn't seem to bother MXp Pro until the recent wave of updates. So, I suspect something went wrong somewhere.
